  1. Ok, I must just be stupid. I have tried searching for the TSB or letter that has been discussed here. (so I can show it to my dealer that says no to the replacement of the clutch basket.0 I want to take them a copy so I can get the I basket change before warranty runs out. Can anyone that knows where it is send it to me or provide a link. Thank you greatly in advance. Signed "Search Challenged and bug-eyed" :confused24:
  2. Has anyone ever had to change the y pipe on their 02 venture? If so where did you buy it. Also should I change the other side at the same time
  3. Ok I looked at where the thermostat is in my 86VR and it looks like I have to take the front exhaust off does anyone know how to change it easy my owners manual just shows the thermostat not how to change it.
  4. I have seen pictures of people laying GoldWings over to change the tire. Can you do it on an RSV/RSTD? Dave
  5. I have a 2004 RSMV and the front brakes are extremely noisey and very annoying. The bike only has 22K KM (approx 13750 Miles) and still has the factory pads. Even though they are still good I want to change them to get rid of the noise. I as thinking about going to the EBC and was wondering which pads, the organic, ceramic, ????? Please advise.
  6. Be precise please. I have never bought antifreeze for a motorcycle. The book says to get Ethylene Glycol type. I have not got a clue what that is. Is it possibly just plain old car antifreeze or what ? What brand should I get for a bike. I am sure it would have to be for an aluminum engine. I would like to completely change even. I do now know the procedure, thanks to Goose and the tech library. The bike is a 2007 model and has same antifreeze. Thank you in advance. Fuzzy
  7. Does anyone have a rear shock off of a 2nd Gen. they would like to send me? I do some work for Gabriel North America Ride Control. They make many shocks for cars, trucks, quads, snowmobiles, you name it. I deal with the head Engineer. I would like to take a shock into him for some research on our problem we have. My shock is still good or I would take it. They have so many different designs that I am thinking they may have one close to the kind we need and maybe able to change the mounting hardware so that we could use it. I would let him know of all the problems that we have with the original and see what he comes up with. I am sure this shock would be cut away for them to see the internal workings. It would be of no use to anyone anymore. Just a thought. Any takers?
  8. Is there a trick for getting to the air filters? I need to change the filters, but so far I haven't been able to figure out how to get to them.
  9. Popped off the ol calipers today doing my routine checks (I also changed the spark plugs, shielded my audio wiring and did a few other minor things) and realized it was about time to change the pads. Once I got down to about half worn I started checking them every week or two and I am absolutely amazed how quickly these things wear when they get close to the end... This is only about 17k miles but since my bike is used as my primary vehicle it does get its fair share of stop and go. I did realize that some of these didn't focus all that well - oops. Next time, I will just change them out when they start to get thin!! This was a bit too close for comfort for me.
  10. i'm getting ready to go riding. looks like good weather for a change. guess i will head west. not much flooding in that direction.
  11. Will be heading out for a 6K+ mile cross country trip at the end of may on the 2005 RSTD (10K miles on her now). I will have new tires on her and an oil change, coolant check before we go. Any thing else I should make sure gets done? Final drive oil? Anything special I need to make room for on the trip? Thanks,
  12. Did you ever start a small project and end up deeper than you had any intention? I knew my front tire was a little worn and had a lot of cracks in it too, so thought I would replace the Elite 2 with a new one, now how hard can that be? I took the wheel off and had a friend change the tire. He left it out in the rain after changing it and got a lot of water in the bearings. Well guess with 40k on the bike it might be a good idea to replace the bearings. Talked to Buckeye to order the parts and mentioned that I was going to check the starter since I had a small leak in the radiator hose also and it would be a good time to look at the starter. The bike starts slow after it is hot. He suggested that the real fix was a 4 brush starter. Ok one more thing what the heck. While disconnecting the battery to remove the starter found a broken fuse clip so guess I will change over to new type fuses. ALL I REALY WANTED TO DO WAS CHANGE MY TIRE!!!!
  13. Yesterday I made a change to the classifieds. People that post in the classifieds have long complained that many of you never check the classifieds. I don't really agree with that but that is the perception. So what I have done is change it so that when an ad is posted in the classifieds, a link to it is automatically posted in the "Links to Classifieds" folder. Once an ad is posted, the link is automatically added within about 10 minutes. Hopefully this will work well and the ads will get more exposure. Now the initial responses to this change were mostly negative. I THINK that was because when I first made the change, links were made for all the existing ads and the entire home page of "new posts" and the new post button brought up nothing but classifieds. It completely buried all the other new posts that people like to read. Now that the initial import is over, the automatic posts will only be made as new classifieds are added. That is usually only 2-4 times a day and some days none at all so there shouldn't be a flood of posts like there was when I first did it. Sooooooooo.......based on this information regarding how it should work from now on, do most of you like it or not? I also want to hear again from those of you who posted in the polls area that you did NOT like it. Does this change your mind or do you still not like it? If everybody REALLY hates it...then just let me say that it was BradT's idea. If you like it, I don't mind taking full credit.
  14. Friend is making badges BUT any suggestions on how I find out names of all the "guest" listings????? Is it possible to go in and change your RSVP and put the name????? Sorry to be a "pain in the bum" Or should I bring blank badges and a marker pen?????
  15. Cagers just don't LOOK, and especially at this time of year when biking season is just beginning. Not only that but it seems cagers are getting more and more "lax" at having any consideration at all of others. They ride their brakes for no reason, go slow in the passing lane, run red lights, turn left in front of you, make right hand turns on a red without stopping first.... the list is endless. One of the other things they do is change lanes without signalling or looking. I am SO GLAD I installed my Stebel Air horn!!! Took the day off yesterday to do some riding as the weatherman blessed us with a nice warm sunny day amidst a lot of cool, rainy ones. TWICE I had to BLAST the Stebel at cagers attempting to change into my lane without realizing I was there. No signalling, no looking over their right shoulder ..... GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR what's wrong with people these days??? There are more and more bikers on the road every year yet peoples driving habits seem to be getting worse and worse ... especially here in "Hongcouver"! OK.... I'm done venting now.

    Parrots

David received a parrot for his birthday. The parrot was fully grown with a bad attitude and worse vocabulary. Every other word was an obscenity. In a moment of desperation, David put the bird in the freezer, just for a few moments. He heard the bird squawk and kick and scream-then suddenly, there was quiet. David was frightened that he might have hurt the bird and quickly opened the freezer door. The parrot calmly stepped out and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'll endeavor at once to correct my behavior. I really am truly sorry and beg your forgiveness." David was astonished at the bird's change in attitude and was about to ask what had made such a dramatic change when the parrot continued, "May I ask what did the chicken do?"
  17. anybody know what the little hose under water pump is for and should it be hooked to anything?? it heads toward the oil filter and just dangles there. another thing is just put on a newn front tire "avon" and now i have the slightest "ticking, zzzzzzz, faint card in the spokes sound, slows down when i do and doesnt change under braking or weaving back and forth. I check bearings when wheell was off and seemed ok and torqued to specs, what the @#$% gives.
  18. Not only is it time to change the clocks. But use the time change as a reminder. TWICE a year we change times. Make it a habit to change those batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Also check all fire extinguishers, even disposables generally have a small test button.
  19. While down at the International Motorcycle Show with y'all .... DaMoose (Joe) bought an HID kit for his headlight. We went back to his place only a few min away from the center and I installed it WOW BRIGHT. He really liked it and I did also. The only thing is now the passing lights look YELLOW/AMBER. I like the contrast but they totally do not add anything to the lighting now. We went back to the show and I also bought an HID kit but I got the Bi-HID which has both hi-low HID, his only had low HID regular HIGH. There is much more wiring involved with the Bi kit I will say though. I really like the extra bright white light. Now the question..is there a sealed beam lamp that can replace the OEM to make them look WHITE. Either change them to HID or LED or even maybe change the housing so that it is a BULB type so I can put super white bulbs in them. Thanks for the helps y'all. Oh n I HIGHLY recommend the HID for visibility at night and day.
  20. Is it possible to change the front fork oil on a 1999 Second Gen. RSV with the forks still on the bike? It has done 30K miles and everything is OK with it but it may be the original oil and may need replacing. I have had the bike four years and it has not been changed. Your thoughts please. I have looked at as many threads as I can and at the Yamaha manual and the Clymer and they all show the forks removed.(I don't want to go down that avenue just yet). Thanks. Neil. (Old Miner).
  21. This looks interesting. Would have to change the connector but .... Has 34 Leds in it http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/webcart_productDisplay.php?itemid=203560&itemdesc=7%22+Headlight+with+LEDs http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/client/images/l177330.jpg http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/client/images/l177329.jpg
  22. Thought It would be interesting to start a thread for the brave ones who are using Motorkote in our bikes. I would hope that this will be input from actual users and a place to track results or lack of them with this product. I hope we don't get the nasayers who know of a second cousin on their great grandmother's side that put the stuff in his bike before he went to prison and by the time he got paroled the stuff had turned to acid and melted his bike. I have heard the stories and warnings about the damage to the clutch but when I press the mechanic or fellow rider as to WHO this happened to it is always "well, I heard from a friend or a friend or read something somewhere that this can happen. I am not sure in the past but this product has no hesitation in recommending it to be used in motorcycles. I just put mine in and have about 150 miles on the bike. will post my findings after a few more miles I am wondering if any one wants to comment who is using one any of the following: 1. Whine better. worse or no change? 2. clutch better less jump when putting in gear, no change or worse any problems at all? 3. Gas mileage better worse or same? 4. overall engine sound. Smoother, no change? 5. Rpm speed range of noise tighter, same or shift as to duration on start and when it goes away? Does it go away? General comments about bike after using. I thought this could bring a place to get all input in one thread. Look forward to hearing from others using Motorkote.
  23. just wondering when to change avon venom, i'm not sure how many miles i have on mine but they are down to the wear bars but still an 1/8" away from being a slick. i hate to change too soon but also don't want go to the edge either.
  24. Looking for a little info for the 600mi service. . . I will be on the road back home, 600 miles into the 2100 mile trip, and will of course need to do an oil and filter change, and rear-end oil change, my question is what size wrenches do I need for the oil drain plug, and rear diff drain and fill. It takes the same filter as my zx14 so the filter wrench and wratchet isn't a problem, and i need to carry as few as possible on my flight. Thanks in advance for helping. cs..
  25. Looks like I will be traveling to Phoenix in the next week or so to pick up my new 2009 Venture S, I am finalizing the deal as I type. I'm looking for information on a stealership or maybe some available garage space to do the 600 mile service, (oil change, rear diff fluid). I will be on my way back to West By God Virginia, a total of about 2200 miles. If anyone has information about a convenient stealership close to the interstate near there, please share that information with me. As is the same if anyone has the ability and desire to host/help for the change, that of course would be much appreciated. I am mechnaically inclined and do all of my own service, but that of course is when I have the facilities to do such. Thanks again for reading, and sooner then planned I am gonna be the proud owner of a 2009 seashell. Chris Parkersburg, WV
