Just wanted to jump in and say hi from Cleveland, GA. Just bought a Black Cherry 06' Venture. Will be selling my custom 96' Royal Star. I live close to Steve {from the famous Wagner Custom Grills}. He told me I could not buy any bike that did not already come with one of his grills. He said if they did not already have one then they didn't REALLY take care of their ride to begin with Anyway, I look forward to riding with some of you soon. Snowed here yesterday and I am suppose to be on SPRING BREAK Dennis

Hey new to the forum, have been on other forums. Glad to find this one. Anyhow. Looking for an undamaged front fender. I was a bit curious about putting a Kawasakids drifter fender on there but probably not. (anyone do this?? pics) Don't really care about the color as i am going to paint my venture this upcoming summer. Also i am removing the trunk. It would be great if the front fender didnt' have holes. but if it does i can fill them. Thanks.

Hey all! Well I'm back, digitally of course. I never went anywhere physically. I want to apologize for disappearing like I did for the last four months. It's amazing it's been a third of a year since I logged in here last and I feel real bad for that. I spent the last few days reading some posts trying to catch up as best I can. Read about the trip to Cody, saw the flyer and going to start working on making that a possibility. It will be the longest trip I have ever made on a bike and need to plan carefully. I read about MasterGuns putting his VR out to pasture and getting a Harley. I know no one is perfect and I'll be the first one to stand up and admit it. With all the excitement of getting my VR at the end of summer and getting my 'list' of things done to it before the Venture Rally in Athens, I got my priorites messed up. I hadn't realized I had spent almost every night and most of every weekend for over a month with the bike. Either working, riding, cleaning, staring, etc. And was not spending time with my family like I should. I realized that the best way is to just get out of the pool and get back in one step at a time. I just hadn't realized that 4 months could go by so fast. My wife is in school during the day and works nights so most of my free time is spent doing housework and taking care of our toddler. Until she finishes school and gets on a regular 8-5 job (3 more months!) I have to be careful how I spend my time. I haven't done much with the bike since the rally other than start it and take it for a quick mantenance ride every few weeks. However, I'm happy to say that this past week I spent taking every part of body work off the 88 with the exception of the rear trunk and the upper fairing/lights/electronics. I drove it up today to my mechanic in Hurst. Going to have some things taken care of that I don't have the time + know how to do. And would just simply feel better if an experienced person took care of. So, hopefully, after about 3 weeks I should have it back and in the meantime will be cleaning/polishing/JBWelding up all the body work in prep for the bike's return. I'm very excited about the comming riding season. As it will be the first one that (if things go well with the wife's job) my family should be on a regular schedule and I should have time to ride like I haven't been able to in 3 years. And my bike will be in tip-top shape to boot! I hope everyone is well. Missed all you guys and glad to be back online! Drop me a message, PM, e-mail or the finger if you like (I deserve it). -Chris "The Crimson Knight"

I bought a 83 Venture this fall with just a tick over 20,000 miles on it. The bike is super clean and a guy can tell it been well taken care of it's whole life. Before I bought the bike I made sure second gear was working ok, and so far it still is, but it was the time of year where I got it home and it turned cold so very few miles have been added. I said all that to ask this, has anyone found anything that prolongs what seems to be the inevitable, losing second gear? What kind of mileage can I plan on before a problem might arise? Before I take the bike out in the spring, I will change the oil to a sythetic brand, thinking that might help with the longevity, I will also take care not to ream the bike in the lower gears as I know this puts a strain on the transmission. I won't be pulling a trailer, not that it would hurt anything if loaded correctly and things done proper. Has anyone known of any 83's with high mileage that haven't had problems in this area? Just wondering about these things, any info will be appreciated.

Kids are grown and or off doing their own thing in different parts of the country, just leaves me and Mrs. Bubber here in Minnesota alone this year. So we decided to go to Vegas and walk and see the sites. Don't care for gambling but need some warmth to play in. Anybody in the Vegas area? What to see and what not to miss. Never been to Vegas so not sure what to expect. Steve

Trying to get out of the whole rental situations and become an owner. Going to go take a look at a house this evening. :banana:I'm so sick of landlords who think they can control every aspect of your being just because it's they own the joint. My current landlords were pretty good till this spring. All kinds of new strange rules. He showed up on my doorstep a few weeks ago saying the neighbors were complaining about junk vehicles. I told him I don't have any. He pointed out my old Ford and said it has been sitting in the same spot since last fall and such. Then he said I wasn't allowed to have any incapacitated or unregistered vehicles in the yard. All vehicles are supposed to be parked in the garage. My garage is not to be used for storage. (Wouldn't keeping your care in the garage when not in use be considered storing it?) I told him it had current tabs and wasn't incapacitated. He started getting an attitude, then I told him to leave. I got a copy of my lease in the mail about a week later with all the rules he thought I was breaking highlighted. :bawling:Not a one of them was I actually breaking except for my truck being parked outside. I don't know what he expects if the truck is to tall to fit through the dang garage door. Now why would a landlord care if you car is parked outside? Why would he care what you keep in your garage? Why would a landlord think it's cool to limit tenants to only two vehicles when it's a 3 or 4 bedroom unit when both parents and the kid all work different shifts? I'll quit my complaining now. I hope this is a place I and my better half can both agree on. I don't mind having to to some work on the place. I'm handy that way. Besides, when is it you find something that's exactly the way you want it anyway? Wish me ?

I went to the game this morning. It was the earliest game in LSU history, anywhere and especially in Death Valley. We took care of Ap State pretty easily, even though it was billed as the "Clash of the Champions".

I pulled my Bub Sleeper slip-ons off earlier today to wrap packing around the baffles and noticed a considerable amount of black soot on the right side baffle and none on the left side. I'm assuming that the right side (which ever cylinders, carbs, etc. exhaust though it) is running too rich. Would a carb sync take care of this? Thanks

After riding in the snow in Montana in June, I noticed my Gerbing jacket had a split seam under one arm. I knew others had the same issue and Gerbing fixed the problem so I wasn't worried. Should have been. Though the jacket had relatively few hours of use, it was out of warranty and they refused to fix the problem. Please understand. If I had mistreated the jacket, I would feel differently. My observation led me to believe that the seam around the arms on the inside of the jacket is very poorly done. This is a quality control issue and Gerbing should take care of it. I had a seamstress friend take care of it. She also stitched the other arm to prevent it from coming apart as well. If you have a Gerbing jacket, check out those seams. The material has a tendancy to fray once the seams parts. If I had it to over again, I think I would be looking for something besides Gerbing. First I want to say thank you for so many of you coming to Asheville. I had no idea so many of you would get there. Seems like you all had a good time. Now there's a few folks I want to send a huge thank you out to: Randya and Laura: They gave me a huge hand with this. Laura is now camp mama, she made sure everyone ate that showed up. She took good care of us. Randy helped with routes for rides. I've been on the roads out there but I couldn't tell you what they were. So I relied on him, and rooster for this. 1rooster: You're a sweetie. He was tail gunner for wed. ride and took good care of our flat lander Thom. He also picked up a few of us in chimney rock to head back to the KOA. Oh and Jeff really liked the little ride he got on your bike with the sidecar. Now he's very motivated to get his on. The rest of my family members, yes you are all my family. Thanks for coming and sharing your time with us. I guess I should thank the muffin for taking me there. This was his idea, I just put it together. Thank you all so very much. Lewis gave me the biggest compliment by saying that this was a great event. I take that as a big pat on the back since he's done vogel for three years. Well gotta get my pics done and see if I can get all the clothes in the hamper. I really need to wash those pants from yesterday at the gem mine. I didn't get any gems but I wore lots of NC dirt. Margaret

I have been searching the site for "Service Bulletin" and "I Basket" but I cannot find the service bulletin number for the infamous clutch scream. My RSV is at the dealer for tires (My new Venoms!) and service. The I Basket was new to them. I can't blame them they sell 2 of these a year. He said he will gladly take care of it but he cannot locate a service bulletin about this. I know I have seen the number here. Can anyone help me with that? Please and Thank You!

Well Pegscraper and his wife Lorie stopped by this morning, and they were off about 9:30, with Steve, Irene and the bike. I believe they were going straight to Bummers place. I am sure it is going to be a long ride, but they will all feel much better once they are home. Take care Steve. Brad and Rhonda

Any Retired Airline folks in the group? This may be of interest-- or a few memories http://www.funstufftosee.com/airlineempires.html I turned many a wrench on several of these birds, sad that most of them have gone to the bone yard. I guess thats part of the reason I keep the old bike running. Its made many a trip to the hanger, at 5 AM to take care of the birds. Probably the most interesting Bird was the Lockheed Supper Connie, If any members remember that fine aircraft. Times have changed--- no hanger at the end of the road these days. Just ride on !

During the ride to the last Va meet and eat I found out that my microphone died.Well after thinking about it for more than a week I emailed J&M this I have a HS8154 headset that is 2 years old and the Mic stopped working I already checked the pins and tried a different cable and it is still out.The speakers work fine what I would like to know is do you have any suggestions as to what I can do so far as troubleshooting the Mic itself? Thanks Jeff And this was the reply from them Jeff ,,,,,, I am sorry that you have had problems ,,,,,, Please send the headset to my attention at the address below ,,, we will take care of it for you ,,,,,, Best regards ,,,,,,, Mini mailed the broken headset off for me last monday and we recieved My headset back today repaired and good as new at no cost. I think that this is very nice of them to replace defective parts 2 years out of the box. As far as I am concened they have excelent customer service. Jeff
