Hello everyone. I am new to the world of Venture motorcycles. I purchased a 2004 Midnight Venture and for the most part, I really enjoy the bike, I have one big problem though. If I am cruising in a high gear and try accelerating moderately or wide open the bike stumbles bad. The harder I lag the engine the worse it is. I replace the plugs and checked the resistance in the plug caps and coils. All was within specs. The bike only has 18k miles and appears to be well taken care of. It is stock including the exhaust. I am not a mechanic, but usually I can fix things myself. This problem has me completely stumped. I have also ran two tanks with seafoam. If anyone has any suggestions I sure would appreciate it.

Well picked the bike up Friday 82 miles later back to the shop DEAD Battery 4th time in the shop for same-thing. they said they are going to call Yamaha Tuesday. what I said was don't care what it takes the bike needs to be fixed. If it is not took care of soon I think its time to ask for a new bike. This one has been in the shop 3 weeks out of a month all started with 996 miles on the bike what are the chances

Just a reminder ..., I don't think that it's necessary to go in to the uneventful details about product purchase and usage. Suffice it to say, Ed Davis (Ed-Sets), still goes the extra mile in customer service. And, I didn't even ask him too. He just took good care of me. These are the kinds of guys we like to do business with. Thanks Ed! Be Safe! Pete.

I still get a monthly sailing news ezine that let me know what's going on in my other lifetime. They just posted this story. I thought it was noteworthy considering the present situation here in the US. Please don't let this thread spin off into anything political. It's just to show there's another side out there and worth a little conversation. Health and Dental Care While Cruising September 20, 2010 – Central America How to pay for health care is a huge concern for everyone, cruisers included. There is some good news, however. Once you leave the United States, health care costs plummet. Secondly, in places like Mexico, there are very low cost health insurance options. When Terry and Jonesy Morris of the Chula Vista-based Gulfstar Sailmaster 50 Niki Wiki decided to quit their jobs, sell their house, furniture and car, and get rid of everything else in order to start living, they couldn't afford health care because of a series of pre-existing conditions. Faced with the choice of either going to work for a big company so they could get on a group policy and not being able to cruise, or self-insuring so they could "go out and live," they decided on the latter. They've been having a great time cruising Mexico and Central America in the four years since they did the '06 Ha-Ha, but then Terry needed to have emergency laparoscopic surgery to remove her gall bladder while they were spending the summer up the Rio Dulce. Here's her concise report: "The total cost was $5,000 U.S. That included three nights and four days in the upscale and modern university hospital in Guatemala City. This cost included the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and primary care doctor fees, as well as all tests, medications, and follow-up care. It was one of my best hospital experiences, and I’ve had six other surgeries, all of them in the United States." Cruisers in Mexico find the quality of medical care south of the border to be just as good, if not better, than in the U.S., and the costs substantially lower. © 2010 Henry Kaiser In case anybody thinks all health care outside of the United States is substandard, let's repeat her last sentence: "It was one of my best hospital experiences, and I’ve had six other surgeries, all of them in the United States." "So far, we have been quite happy with the medical and dental services we've received," continues Terry. "Jonesy, my husband, had an urgent and extensive root canal and crown procedure in El Salvador. It was done by an endodontist who was trained in the States. The total cost for the two dentists, plus the crown, was $350. In addition, we have had routine dental cleanings and check-ups for between $25 to $40, and filling repairs for $25 — all by English-speaking dentists. A walk-in, same-day mammogram at a private hospital was $35, with the typed radiologist report and films available for pick-up the next day. Routine blood-work is done inexpensively on demand at laboratories." To add a little perspective on the situation, a Sausalito sailor we know had the same surgery a couple years ago at Marin General. The total amount billed to the insurance company? $80,000! And that didn't include any overnight stays — he was forced to check out six hours after the surgery — or follow-up care. Let's see, there are no signs that the U.S. job market is going to improve anytime soon, used sailboats are selling for all-time low prices, the cost of pleasure cruising south of the border is well under what's considered poverty level in the United States, and health insurance and health care south of the U.S. is both good and reasonable. For some people, deciding to opt out of what for too many has become the 'new normal' in the United States in search of a better quality of life might not be such a bad idea.

What do you suppose a 1985 Yamaha Maxim 750 in good condition, with 16000 plus miles on it would sell for? A coworker has one that he is selling. He's hoping to get $1000 for it. He's had it for 12 years and has taken real good care of it. Always has been garaged. What do you guys think would be a fair price? Thanks, Bill

Help! I can't get one saddle bag open on my 07 RSV. I push the button and it doesn't feel like it is doing anything. Do you know of any way to get the dang thing open? I may not care so much except my wife's purse is in there! Thanks for any advice!

Is it just me or what? I've been looking to upgrade from my current GPS unit, a Mio c520 I've had for about 3 years now. My only real complaint with it is that it washes out in sunlight, so it gets hard to see. Anyhow I just can't justify $500-$950 for a mc unit. After looking at several brands it sort of gets confusing after a while. Personally I don't care for the Gamin's series. To me they don't have the features that my current Mio unit has and also ,to me anyhow, seems awkward to use. Anyone care to recommend alternate models, brands? Something with one of the larger screens is prefered & easly seen in bright sunlight. Larry

Got the valve shims all taken care of with help from Scooter Bob. None were more than 0.06mm tight, but they are now all on the loose side of the valve clearance tolerance. I had to drill and chisel off one of the allen bolts holding one of the chrome covers since it would not release. Once I get the stud removed and the hole retapped, I will be able to put it all back together again (I hope). As of now, I have pieces and parts all over the garage workshop. It is a real mess. Not really good pictures, but this is my steed in all her naked glory. Thanks again Bob for the help today. Took hours off the time required to get this taken care of. RR

When I bought my Venture (used, 1 year old) it didn't come with an owners manual. I've been stewing over it since. Well, I finally found an original owners manual on Ebay for $39 delivered. Probably paid too much but I didn't check and don't care, I have one now - I'm sure the guy had more if anybody needs one. Let me know and I'll look up the link

As some of you know, we have been dealing with the Ontario government for the last year on an issue regarding a licence for curing and smoking our own product. During that time we had to deal with and through Leona Dombrosky. She has seen been replaced by Carol Mitchell, member of parliment for Huron Bruce. I wonder if anyone would care to comment on who she is, what her focus might be etc, so that when I send her a letter I might be better informed as to how to say things and word pharse it.

Webbikeworld just did a review on the Garmin 660. Though I like the widescreen, I would not consider this an upgrade from my Zumo 550 simply because it does not have the XM radio capability. I'll just stick with what I have thank you very much. For those who don't care about the XM though, it seems to be a pretty good unit. http://www.webbikeworld.com/garmin-gps/garmin-zumo-660-review/

Got the wobble on the way to work this morning at 76 mph (GPS indicated). Slowed down to 65 and the wobble subsided. Temp was 34 degrees and air pressure in tire is at 35 psi. I'll try different air pressures to see if that will take care of the problem. I work hard trying to make BabyDoll weathy, but I don' want to make her wealthy and a widow at the same time. Glenn

How's that first gen garage a coming? You got a stall for each one? I heard they was a slow 86 close buy looking for a home. I bought a 6 ft rear blade for the tractor. Take care of the snow this winter. I'm taking Easter week off. Going down to the camp and landscape a spot and road for a scoot shed.

Does anyone use an electric heater to keep the chill off their garage when you want to work? Just curious what some of you may use. I used a propane heater several times last year however I didn't really care for the odor of the propane burning mixing with the other chemicals in the garage. Thanks. Spotsy

Just had my inner and outer fairing replaced.. for the usual culprits. Dealer did an outstanding job, switched over light sensor and 2 switches(no extra charge). Also installed a new Saddlemen Road Sofa seat.... So far it took care of my tailbone pain.. although I seem to be feeling some OTHER pressure points settin in... maybe the "break in" period will fix that!!!!! Wish me luck!!!!

Ok, I'll admit I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas Tree at times, but I've searched and I'm coming up with nothing. Can someone please post a link to the thread that explains how to run the extra ground from the starter to the frame on a 1st generation. I've got an 86 VR and I'm trying to take care of some issues. Also if there are any pics on running new battery cables, I need some help with that too. Thanks, I appreciate any help I can get. Mick

My trip to Indiana June and July, '09. Took my bike up to Dan's Cycle in Seymoure, IN and had it FIXED. It now runs like new. Gary at Dan's said that one cylender in front and one in back were not timed right. Also that two valves were not seating right and that they could have been damage. All that was taken care of. And he got Yamaha to take care of those problems even though it was out of warrenty. He blamed it on the work done under warrenty. Thanks Yamaha. While there I went on several rides with the owner of Dan's Yamaha, and his son Gary. I have tried to down load a picture of what the tirke looks like now. who know how it will turn out. I rode over a thousand miles in 4 Sundays while up there. They sure know how to treat a misplaced Yankie! Being down here in Florida I forgot how nice it was to have hills to ride up and down. And they have trees too with real leaves. Not all these so called trees with needles on them. Hope to see you all at the "Tail" Ken

The Perfect Solution to Senior Health Care While discussing the upcoming Universal Health Care Program with my sister-in-law the other day, I think we have found the solution. I am sure you have heard the ideas that if you're a senior you need to suck it up and give up the idea that you need any health care. A new hip? Unheard of. We simply can't afford to take care of you anymore. You don't need any medications for your high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, etc. Let’s take care of the young people. After all, they will be ruling the world very soon. So here is the solution. When you turn 70, you get a gun and 4 bullets. You are allowed to shoot 2 senators and 2 representatives. Of course, you will be sent to prison where you will get 3 meals a day, a roof over your head and all the health care you need!!! New teeth, great!!! Need glasses, no problem. New hip, knee, kidney, lung, heart? Well bring it on. And who will be paying for all of this. The same government that just told you that you are too old for health care. And, since you are a prisoner, you don't have to pay any income tax. I think we have a Perfect Solution!!!

Just wondered how your 75 mph test run went with the trailer. Took my bike and trailer to wally world tonight---50 lb bag of dog food and some other stuff came home. Don't care if I look foolish, at least I got in an hour ride doing errands.

Was told today by a friend that used to work for Harley and his wife still does, that Harley will have a water cooled V4 in 2010. Don't really care as I have a Honda trike but thought I would put it out there.
