I am in the process of digging down to check valve clearances on 02 venture. Want to wait and see if they need adjusted before borrowimg the tool. However, noticed the rubber intake between Carb and head have what seem to me to be substantial cracking in the material. Should I go ahead and replace them or is this semi normal aging Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk

I took my bike out of storage today.I installed new plugs and synced the carbs. The problem i am having is the no.4 carb is not in line with the other three on the guages. When i am riding through town the bike smokes really bad. When I go onto the highway it smokes for a mile or so and runs great.I just put seafoam in the tank and am taking it out right away.I sure hope that fixes it.It never did that last year.I rebuilt the carbs 2 years aga.The cylinder is getting spark so it must be a fuel issue.Any advice would sure be nice.

My searching skills may need some work, but I can't find it. Can someone post the instructions on how to do a carb sync on a 2nd Gen. Please keep in mind my mechanical ability is such that the instructions really need to be written in crayon. Thanks!

Is there anyone in the Pacific Northwest, hopefully along the I-5 corridor, that has carb sync equipment? Tuning my 99 RSV and just can't spend the hundred bucks right now to buy my own. I'd donate to the cause for your help. Oh, I'm in the Portland area, but willing to ride to where you are. Thanks, George

Why is it that the right 2 cylinders on the carb tune fluxuates about 2 to 3 horizontal indicators while the left two stays almost dead still. I can adjust the left two to each other or away from each other. I can adjust the left and right banks to each other. When I rev the engine all 4 banks response then return to its adjusted level. Is everything ok or it that an indication of something else needing repair?

I've got this Farmsaw, built by Pioneer in Peterborough ONT, somewhere around the early 80's. I really don't need it, but I thought to clean it up, get it running and then sell. It's the orange one, not the yellow model. SO here's the issue. When I got it, it wouldn't turn over, but with a little persuasion that happened. It doesn't fire or even bark. It has spark and a new plug. The timing is right on. I cleaned the carb, and it gets fuel. Get about 60 lbs compression on 3rd pull, 25 on 1st pull. Decompression valve works. I tried to inject some ether,, I know, that's bad, but it won't bark on that either. I'm out of ideas, so now it's up to you guys.

My buddy has decided to clean his carb ai showed him last year.Problem is he lost the seat that goes under the main jet.Its thr one thr vacuum needle slides into.It can be seen through the venturi on one carb but not the other. The bike is a Johnny pag chopper and from all the info I can gather on the carb.It is Sheng Wey (Keihin copy)26mm vacuum type carb. Much like thr ones on the old gold wings I had.I need to find a replacement for this part.I'm hoping someone can lead me in the right direction our better yet, if someone has a parts carb than can part with this item if size matches.Any Ideas Would be appreciated. I wasnt to get him back running again.I've been holding on to his carb for 5 months now. Thank you in advance

Now that I joined the forum, I was searching through the member lists & found the history of my 84. For those who know her I bought jurob 's Blondie last month. She still needs some TLC but not in the power, engine, & carb setup. Even though I have never met Jeff I want to thank muffinman for the carb sync he did on this bike. THIS THING IS AWESOME! She runs like a dream. The TLC I've done so far is add the trunk, a hidden antenna, a rebuilt slave cylinder, new stainless reservoir screws (thanks again dingy) and a new seat. The only thing left is basically all the plastic welding on the ABS & finding that pesky gas smell . This bike has been a joint effort by many people here. Knowing that I am damn proud to own her! I look forward to meeting other members on ride & meets. Thank you all for all of your help!

Hope this is the right place... I have a '83 Venture Standard. Anyone in the Columbus, Ohio area have access to a ultrasonic cleaning tank? Or someone on the list know of someone with one. The shops around here want $50 per carb body, with me doing the dissembly/reassembly. I used to send them to a guy in texas, but it has been a few years, and I cant find his info. Also, anyone have experience with the Harbor Freight (or similar) tanks? A waste of money, or worth it? Any input is appreacited. Thanks, Kurt

Hi, I just aquired a 85 Venture and the bike is running pretty rough. Will only run and idle with the choke on and will not rev over 3000rpm. If you throttle it quickly the bike will sputter and stall, if you slowly feather the throttle the bikes RPM will climb. I'm 99% certain that there are 2 issues. 1) Carb is dirty. I have taken the airbox off, and sprayed the carbs down and also ran a tank of seafoam with premium fuel through the bike. This seemed to have helped alot but it still won't run over 3000RPM. 2) After reading alot of posts on here I think I have a bad diaphragm. I say this because one of the sliders has no vacuum and slides back and forth with 0 effort as the other 3 have vacuum and you can hear it as you slide the slide. A couple questions... Is there anyone is Winnipeg that would be willing to help me clean these carbs and replace the diaphragm (I would definitely pay you for your time), and if not, are my assumptions correct with the carb diaphragm being shot seeing that the slide moves with 0 effort? Thanks in advance! Ben Also will sell this bike for $1975.00 OBO

Last weekend, I pulled the carbs to clean the jets (both sets). Pilots were clogged, mains were fine. Started the mixture screws at 3 turns out from seated. Question: Is there a recommendation on WHICH CARB to begin the mixture adjustment process? I've review numerous threads regarding the adjustment process, but no mention of which carb to begin with. Does it matter? Question: Does the idle adjustment affect all four carbs? Or does turning the idle adjustment screw adjust one carb, then the others "synch-up" to it?

I've a 2008 RSV that I've owned since brand new. This weekend, I decided to clean the carbs per some great instructions on this site. The diaphrams on the right side of the carb banks looked fine. However, both of the left side diaphrams looked DEFORMED... While the left diaphrams dont have any holes in them, the center hole looks deformed (larger...maybe swollen), and doesnt fit the slide as well as the right-side diaphrams do. The left side air box-to-airfilter hose was completely disconnected as well (back to my theory on 16-year old "technicians")... I'm going to order two new diaphrams for the left side.... QUESTION: What would be some of the issues I would have if the diaphrams were bad? Lower MPG...less vacuum...no power in 5th gear... I defer the to the wealth of knowledge on this site! Thanks!

Have a quick question for you all, I am trying to put the venture back together after the teardown for the 2nd gear and I have come to the point of putting the carbs back on the bike. I have also replaced the throttle cables and I just wanted to be sure I didn't miss something. So here is the question; Will the carb diaphrams slide when you twist the throttle while the bike is not running? Mine do not slide at this time?? thanks in advance. mike

Is it still possible to buy carb. rebuild kits for my '83 VR. If so, where can I order them and what info do I need off the carbs. Thanks in advance for your help.

When should a carb tune be done? (after how many miles) or do you wait till something doesn't seem right? Is there a set schedule to do this?

I am trying to do a carb sync on my 93 that I am trying to bring back from the dead. I am using a Carbtune, and can't get a reading on it. I assume that is from lack of vacuum. I can't find any vacuum leaks by spraying carb cleaner around the carb boots, and the carb diaphragms look good to me. The bike only has 18,700 miles on it, so I wouldn't think the valve train would be out of adjustment. I can get the bike to start and run using the choke, and eventually it will idle without the choke, but if you give it throttle, it will die. With the choke on, it will rev up to 5-6k easily without giving it any throttle. I did find out today that number 4 cylinder is not firing, but I didn't think that would make the Carbtune not move. I get spark at #4, but loosened the carb drain screw, and nothing came out. Carbs will have to come off again, I already cleaned them once and they looked good except the idle jet was gummed shut. Obviously this bike sat for most of its life with only 18,700 miles on it, and I'm sure that's where all of my problems are coming from, but it sure looks nice, so I want to get it going. It has a woodgrain dash that appears OEM, I had not seen one of those before. Thanks for any help.

What is the 'recommended' position of the E clip on the carb diaphragm needle valves? Needle valve is similar to one on bottom of attached picture, not exactly but close. I am getting these carbs closer on Speedy, but I stil have a slight popping below 3,000 RPM's & gas mileage is somewhat lower than expected. About 25-30mpg range. Carbs are 35mm mikunis with stock VMax jets in. 150 mains, 90 PAJ2, 170 PAJ1 & 37.5 pilot. Gary

Just got back last night after a 6 day, 2000 mile trip from ATL to PA and back, with lots of stops in between, and while the '99 RSV ran great with no mechanical issues, my MPG's were awful. The best I got was 32 on straight stretches of highway riding at an average speed of 72mph. The best overall mileage I got on combined highway/local roads was 35. Either my carbs are way out of whack, or the 10% ethanol is really killing my performance. All other maintenance areas were addressed before the trip, including all fluids and filters. And since the fuel injected Ultras I was riding with all got 42+mpg's on ethanol gas, I'm guessing I need a carb tune to determine if this is the problem. Any north GA area members that have a carb tune kit, I'd love to hook up with you!

Had my 25K miles, 85 venture for about 6 years, it never ran right - it would cut out at 6200 rpm, spit, sputter at full throttle on excelleration, I know it needed to have the carbs cleaned but I didn't want to spend the money. I just forked out over 200 bucks to clean the carbs, new plugs, wires, now it hesitates and doesn't go over 5200 rpms at full throttle. If I don't have it wide open I can reach redline in 1st. 2nd gear tops out at about 4500 rpm. Mechanic claims it is not the carbs mainly because it goes great until 5200 rpms ? I'm frustrated - I don't know how to fix the bike myself yet - IF it was a carb problem at 6200, so why not a carb problem at 5200 ?? I've already paid the bill, don't want to invest more money. I feel like I should have just left it alone if this is as good as it gets. Any ideas ?

A few months ago I posted that I was having carb issues with my 83. With lots of encouragment from you folks and some very good pic's that Dingy supplied I tackled a carb clean. Turns out the worst part of the job was the throtle linkages. I went through each carb one at a time that way I always had three to look at if I had a part left over. Turns out most of my jets were either plugged or partly plugged. She started right up, and almost with no choke. Every thing seemed good on the center stand. I put a license plate and insurance on it yeasterday. Again she started with very minimal choke, and off I went. SHe had a bit of a stumble at around 3 thousand RPM but would work through it to the point of hang on were going some where in a hurry. I dumped some injector cleaner in this morning and again she started with little choke. ( temp's low 50's) I used injector cleaner because I had no sea foam. I went for about a 45 mile ride. She seems to have worked the stumble out and is working great. Thanks for all the help and Dingy for the Pic's. I am going to try to attach a couple of pic;s of the junk that was in the carbs and jets. Tahnks again Frank

I just discovered that the outer end part of one of my Enricher/Choke is broken off. Anyone have a parts carb I could get one from? 89 VR.
