  1. So my cousin calls this morning and says "Lets go to lunch!" It's a beautiful day, I'm not needing much encouragement to get out of the office and on the bike for a bit, so we agree on where to meet. As I pull into the parking lot a red Porche accelerates hard around me and cuts across my front into the parking spot I was aiming for. I stop, watch a dumpy looking little guy in a "Porche" jacket that matches his car perfectly get out and look around. He sees my glare, apparently doesn't want to talk about it, and heads into the restaurant. I find another spot and head inside. As I enter I see Mr. Porche leaning over a table making conversation with a fairly attractive woman. I don't really want to mess him up so I pass by behind him. As I pass the woman looks up and says "Your bike looks like fun! Wanna take me for a ride?" I turn toward her and say "Sure - when?" "Right now!" She pops up, links her arm through mine, and starts for the door. Mr Porche is bristling like a terrier, trying to interrupt. "What about your boyfriend?" I ask. (This is moving rather faster than I had anticipated.) And she smiles happily: "He's not my boyfriend. He's just some jackass that thinks he can pick me up because he has a cute little car." That gets a laugh from a bunch of people at nearby tables. Mr. Porche's beet red face vanishes in the direction of the washroom, and my cousin and I hop on and ride to a different restaurant for lunch...

  3. While this tip would be most effective for those who don't park their car in garage, it still could be effective for cars parked in garage, as alarm would still be heard in driveway, although it would not be as loud. Put your car keys beside your bed at night. Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car.The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.
  4. As we were coming home the other day while still in Pa., Becky and I passed this Banana car. Didn't have the camera out, so we Googled it. So Big Tom and Muffinman, Think you can handle it ? Here's the story on it, Here . 5. Now that the Tour Deluxe is gone - I picked up a new project. A guy had a an in the local shopper selling a 1950 F1 pickup for 500 but it was more of a project than I wanted to tackle. He had bought it to restore but found a better one and it was all done. So I asked him if I could see it and he opened his shed that had several cars he had redone. 64 Galaxy, 50 Ford F1, an old Lincoln, a Ford Street Rod, and two 53 Mercs. The first one was done 10 years ago and the other he had just finished. He used the interior and chrome from his first car to do the second. The he said he wanted to sell the other car that runs great and has all the parts and is solid - it just needs put together. Long story short - I bought the fixer upper at a great price! Now I have something to keep me busy!!! The first pictures are the car I bought and the last few pictures are of his car. If any of you want to come help me put it together - let me know!
  6. I'm kinda new to the Ventures so was wondering if this is what is referred to on this forum as a First Gen? At least it does have a side car with it. http://i51.tinypic.com/72u25e.jpg Saw this for sale at Wally World and couldn't resist.
  7. Having a nice ride today , I start getting anxious because it was beginning to rain , and I didnt want to get caught in it. I dont mind rain but after 4 hours of riding I was too lazy to throw on rain gear. There was a car in front of me going way slower than the speed limit ( WARNING #1) He tapped the brakes a few times while comming up to intersections ( WARNING # 2). He puts his left turn signal and gets close the the yellow lines ( WARNING WARNING DONT DO IT) I proceed to squeeze past his right side just as I was passing his rear bumper I notice teh right turn signal come on!!!!!! I only had 2 feet between the car and the curb and I decided to hop the curb. i was pissed for a second at his attempt at assassanating me but then realized I was the one at fault. He let me know 3 times that he was gonna hurt me and I didnt listen. This time it ended nicely and I got home safe but I may not be so lucky next time. I know better than that! I guess i needed a refresher course. What was I thinking
  8. It never fails. At least for me. Murphy rears his ugly head again. Every year that we start a vacation week, something ALWAYS happens. It was bad enough that we wont be able to make MD this time again for various reasons, but....since were off anyway lets take a nice convertible top down drive along A1A at night. Great views, cool breezes and a nice restaurant in St Augustine. Get in the car and Click, click, click, click.......Battery dead. Just over 1 year old. Glad I had a 3 year free replacement warranty on it. On a Chrysler Sebring Convertible its a real big pain to swap batteries. You have to jack up and remove left front wheel and inner fender well to access the battery. Forgot to chock the rear wheels..(murphy is still lurking) Car starts to roll down the driveway as im laying under the front jacking up the floor jack. OH S***. Im holding on the jack while laying on my back, trying to turn the handle to let it back down. No such luck. Arm wants to pull out of its socket. And its still rolling downhill. I give it all I have and stop the car. Yell for the wife who is inside and cant hear me. (Murphy, you low life Ba*****!) One more hard twist on the jack handle and down it comes, finally. WHEW!! A few more inches and it would have hit a steeper part of the driveway and im sure my neighbor across the street would have wanted to know why my car is in her driveway. Now im laying on the hot concrete surface, my shoulder is throbbing, my knee is torqued wrong and its about 93 degrees out. After 10 minutes, im back up...drink 2 bottles of cold water and back at it. Remove inner front fender well to access the battery. Take it to the store for my free exchange. Had the wrong receipt. Had the one for my Trailblazer, but luckily they had purchase records in their system (Orielly auto). (wait, hes Irish too, maybe related to Murphy) After 20 minutes, I walk out with a new battery, install it, put it all back together, check with DMM and all is well again. Just a bad battery. This has happened before as well with other vacations. One year it was the water heater leaking. Still had warranty left so it was a freebie, but I still wasted a vacation day fooling with it. Another time it was the bikes battery. And so on..... Murphy has a way of popping up at the most inopportune times. Id say I hate the Irish but my wife is Irish, so....... But one thing is true...Murphy is a real #@$%#&*%$#@
  9. Some knew about the red light on cars, but not the 112. It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc. Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called 112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes. I never knew about the 112 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe place. *Speaking to a service representative at Bell Mobility confirmed that 112 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about 112. You may want to Send this to every woman (and man) you know; it may save a life. 12. Grab a beer boys ....this is a long one. Ok ...two beers. Ok, here's the problem. A '95 Lincoln Towncar 4.6. About 2 years ago I went to leave for work and the car would crank like crazy but no spark. Checked battery and it was well charged and everything seemed to be fine except it would not fire. I tried everything I knew about Lincolns and finally had it towed to my oldest friends shop. He is the ONLY person I have trusted to work on my vehicles. Honest and straight up shop that does what is needed and no screwing around. His service staff is top notch and well trained. So he has it for the day and calls and says it's fixed. The ignition module was bad. That was all. Everything else was fine. Only $240.00 for the module and $75.00 for the tow. Picked it up and it was fine. Started great as it always had. Then......13 months later......it does it again. Same trouble shooting process and the tow to his shop. The ignition module was found to be bad again. Plugged in a new one and it fired right up. But he did go to bat for me and got the first module replaced by warrenty. It was out by a month but they covered it. I asked him to keep the car for another day and do a full trouble shooting rundown on it to see if he could find if there was something causing the modules to fail. He did.....and found no problems at all. Then.........6 months later it did it again. He had a mechanic run a new module to where I was 30 miles away and we plugged it in and it fired right up. Again. And this time the module could not be covered under warranty. Crap. Another $240.00. So back to his shop and we spent an evening going through the cars system. Had a couple of his techs hanging around as they were curious, and I was holding the beer cooler. The only thing that seemed to keep coming up was a possible problem with excessive resistance causing the module to fail. Most likely culprit....the plug wires. We tested each and every wire and found none showing to be bad. I replaced them anyway. So some time passed. Until last Sunday. And again...same story. Rerun. Ok, so it's sitting in my garage being defiant. Much like myself at this point. I've talked to my buddy and and his techs and they are baffled. In doing my research and reading the service manuals I know the computer in the car needs 10.5 volts to operate, but they usually won't act up until 9.5 to 10 volts. I've owned several Lincolns in the past. This much I know. LOL! Going back to the battery I made sure I've got that available. When cranking I'm only dropping to about 11.9 at the lowest when I've been cranking quite a few times. Battery is being kept at full charge during all this. I'm not making any progress guys. I'm willing to drop another $240.00 for another module IF I know it will last. There has to be something causing this to fail....and it seems to be happening more often. And besides that....it has rained every danged day since it quit starting. The bike looks like hell. That has to stop. I need some advice. Thoughts?....ideas?.....advice?.....magical cures?....donations to buy another car? Dancing in the rain...... Mike
  13. So I have just joined this forum, wanted to say hi, and introduce myself. I am on my third royal star venture. I started with a 1996 roal star tour classic thati bought in 2004 with 7000 miles on it, when i finished with it, it had 87,000 on it by the middle of 2007. I bought a new 06 royal star midnight venture, which was running strong until someone ran it over while parked last week. Good thing my insurance covered what was left on the loan plus enough ectra to get another motorcycle. A new 2010 royal star venture s. Yes, I like the motorcycle, I dont own a car, i ride all the time, and in southern california traffic, it absolutely saves me time and gas over driving a car. Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

  15. I have a plastic car topper to put on my HF trailer. I did not notice when I acquired it that it looks to have been crashed on one corner. There are some deep scrapes and the corner was pushed in and it rubbed thru at the crease mark. I cant complain, the price was right, which is why I did not look at it closely. I think the thing is vac formed out of ABS but I'm not certain about that. It is an off white in color and has a heavily textured surface. It is a Kartote brand. I was going to do the repair by laying up some glass cloth and epoxy on the inside, but after thinking about that, I realized that this cover is very flexible/flimsy and the glass/epoxy would not be, It will probably just crack off. Is there something flexible that I can use with the glass cloth to repair the crack. Eventually I will paint it, but that will not be for a while, at least not this year, unless I just buzz bomb it.

  17. I'm looking for one of those to put on the sidecar (which will make my wife happy). I know JCWhitney has some very basic ones, but I am looking for a door mount style with a cone shaped housing. I need the right hand side one. Every website I have gone to either requires a log in or asks for a make and model. They just don't seem to list my sidecar. A friend of mine has an old car sitting in a barn but he seems reluctant to let me pull the mirror off. Something about it being worth 60K (as is). If you have one of this style mirrors lying around and want to part with it shoot me a pics and price; if you're better at surfing the web and finding this kind of stuff, I'd appreciate the link. Y'all have a great weekend, riding tomorrow!! :happy65:
  18. Well, I decided it has been over a year since my last mid-life crisis, so I had better get on it. I haven't had a nice vehicle (other than motorcycles) for myself in MANY years. The wife always seems to get the new car and I get the hand me down. So I decided my F-250 was burning too much diesel at $4.00 a gallon. Although this car doesn't get a ton more mileage, it does get a little more and the gas is cheaper. It's a 2006 Ford Mustang with 38,000 miles. Just the standard v6 model but a good compromise between the look I wanted and the better gas mileage I wanted. Looks brand new inside and out. I added window tint and a new radio so far...but this thing is like when you start adding to our bikes...there just isn't any end in sight to the accessories I could add. Some things in the future that might be added: hood scoop, window louvers, rims, chin and rear spoilers...It's a fun car. I don't drive it hard (never been a speed demon) but it can get up and go when needed. I'm a happy boy with a new toy!
  19. One day this very sensitive, animal loving guy was driving and then he hit a bunny. He got of his car and realized he had hit the Easter bunny, so he starts crying. A couple minutes later a blonde lady drives by and gets out of her car. She asks the man what happened and he told her "I KILLED the Easter bunny!!!" She walked to her car and brought back a can. She sprayed the bunny and a few seconds later the bunny got up, jumped 10 feet and turned back and waved then he did it again and again until he was out of sight. The man asked the woman what the can was. She said "You really wanna know" He said "Yes" Wait for it Wait for it Wait for it Wait for it Hair Spray."Revives Dead hare and gives it a permanent wave"

    Scam????

I suspect this is a a scam. A guy contacted me via e-mail to buy my 51 merc. He insists on paying via pay pal and wants me to open an account there. He will not tell me where he is and claims he does not have a chequeing account and cannot go to the bank due to the nature of his work (used car dealer) He wants to send the money then have the car picked up. I have offered to deliver it but he refuses. It does not make sense for him to pick it up due to ferry fares and tides. Your opinions?
  21. This is not a joke and they do sell for $600.00. They wont be able to make them fast enough--be good just to run around town. Here's a car that will get you back and forth to work on the cheap....... $600 for the car. 258 miles per gallon... Only a one seater, however. Talk about cheap transportation ......... Volkswagen's $600 car gets 258 mpg -- It looks like Ford, Chrysler and GM missed the boat again! This $600 car is no toy and is ready to be released in China next year. The single seater aero car totes VW (Volkswagen) branding. Volkswagen did a lot of very highly protected testing of this car in Germany, but it was not announced until now where the car would make its first appearance. The car was introduced at the VW stockholders meeting as the most economical car in the world. The initial objective of the prototype was to prove that 1 liter of fuel could deliver 100 kilos of travel Spartan interior doesn't sacrifice safety The aero design proved essential to getting the desired result. The body is 3.47 meters long and just 1.25 meters wide, and a little over a meter high. The prototype was made completely of carbon fiber and is not painted to save weight. The power plant is a one cylinder diesel positioned ahead of the rear axle and combined with an automatic shift controlled by a knob in the interior. Safety was not compromised as the impact and roll-over protection is comparable to the GT racing cars. The Most Economical Car in the World will be on sale next year: Better than Electric Car – 258 miles/gallon: IPO 2010 in Shanghai This is a single-seated car From conception to production: 3 years; the company is headquartered in Hamburg , Germany .. Will be selling for 4000 Yuan, equivalent to US$ 600.. Gas tank capacity = 1.7 gallons Speed = 62 – 74.6 Miles/hour Fuel efficiency = 258 miles/gallon Travel distance with a full tank = 404 miles
  22. Ok, ya looked. I figured the way you guys follow Beavers advantures you'd jump all over that header. But.....I was digging in a couple of those old boxes that seem to follow you around for years that contain things that you keep for no reason and I did find something that I used to love but is was lost track of for years, actually decades and I like to find it again. It took me a while to figure out what is was but when I did I started jonesing for more. Many moons ago, like in the mid 70's I was at a car show and ran across a different kind of car wax. It came in a plastic tub and was in a powder form. You would take a damp cloth and dip it in the powder and apply it like a paste. The thing was that it did not let water bead up like a regular wax. After you finished applying it you could throw a bucket of water on the car and it would simply run off in a sheet. Not a spot to be seen. The effect was rather interesting when I would use RainX on the window also. People used to stop and look at the car when it was raining out because it looked like it was dry. You could see the rain drops hit and splash but then.....nothing. No beaded water, no spots and when it dried there were no water marks. Sadly the tub is now so worn and faded I can read nothing on it. What powder is left is a solid, hard as nails chunk. Maybe if I throw it in the blender.....? Sure would like to find out if it is still available. Only time I ever saw it for sale was at the car show. Never in a store, car mags or even offered on TV! But that was way before those fantastic infomercials were there to guide in our purchases. Anybody ran across a product like this? As the kind of guy that would rather ride the bike than clean it..........see where I'm going with this........it would be great for bike. Mike
  23. OK What Freon does house A/C take. Need a charge kit. I've done this before but can't remember #. 134 is car house is ??? 22? 12? I'll feel stupid when I get this one but don't tell.........Promised I wouldn't do that!!
  24. Trying to rescue my daughters boyfriends car. He filled the tank up and shortly after the car started stuttering and stalling and will start again after a few minutes but has no power on a hill and will stall out again. I'm thinking bad gas and/or it is clogging the fuel filter. It's a 1988 Cutlass with the 5 Ltr. Working from memory that car has a fuel fitler that screws into the carb body with either a filter inside of the barrel housing or the barrel housing itself is a filter. I'm pretty sure it has steel fuel lines. Anybody have any info on that. Headed out in a bit to see what I can do. Be nice to grab the right filter on the way. Thanks Mike
