  1. GOOD: A Saskatchewan police officer had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but wasn't getting many. Then he discovered the problem.- a 12-year-old boy was standing up the road with a hand painted sign, which read 'RADAR TRAP AHEAD' The officer then found a young accomplice down the road with a sign reading 'TIPS' and a bucket full of money. (And we used to just sell lemonade!) BETTER: A motorist was mailed a picture of his car speeding through an automated radar post in Edmonton , AB. A $40 speeding ticket was included. Being cute, he sent the police department a picture of $40. The police responded with another mailed photo of handcuffs. BEST: A young woman was pulled over for speeding. As the Saskatchewan RCMP Officer walked to her car window, flipping open his ticket book, she said, "I bet you are going to sell me a ticket to the RCMP Ball." He replied, 'Ma'am, Saskatchewan RCMP don't have balls.' There was a moment of silence while she smiled, and he realized what he'd just said. He then closed his book, got back in his patrol car and drove off. She was laughing too hard to start her car.
  2. I'm driving in the center lane of three, I look in my left mirror and see a car what seemed to be plenty of room behind me to change lanes. I believe I turned my signal on and started moving to the left when I hear a clicking sound coming from the left side of my bike. Now as I look to the left I see the car that was in my rear view mirror right beside me with my newly installed highway peg doing the chariot thing on her front wheel. Thank the LORD that HE gave me the ability to remain calm and move slowly to the right away from the car that I was sharing the lane with. She slowed down, I moved ahead of her and we made a left hand turn off the road to talk. She the driver of the car asked if I was OK (I don't know yet how I was not shaken) I said yes as I looked at my peg and realized it was somewhat OK. We then looked at her car with a few scratches in the clear coat of her wheel and missing center cap. She's saying lets just exchange info and is gesturing that I pay for her loss. So, I reply lets call the police so the blame can be appropriately charged. She replied "Are we really going to do this" and I said do what? She said she had a good relationship with her dealer and she would be reasonable and did we really want to involve the law and spend a few hours doing it. I said OK and it probably was a wise decision once I was away from the scene but, I still am wondering why she was so adamant about no police. As I reflect I was at fault because I was the one changing lanes, I almost always look over my shoulder along with looking in the mirror and this is the reason why. Again thank GOD it could have been worse.
  3. Looking for advice from sidecar owners as to recomendations for a front tire replacement on my RSV and Hannigan side car rig? I have heard mention installing a rear tire backwards on the front. just looking for more information before i make a decision thanks:confused07:
  4. I have put dual Sebel Air hons on my 89 Venture and love them. They really get the attention when you need it. Afew years ago my wife was stopped behind a dump truck when it began backing up. She honked her puny ineffective compact car horn and the truck just kept on coming on up over the hood. There was no one hurt but it sure scared her and our son. I put a Stebel on that car and it solved that problem. Since then I have been replacing the wimpy horns in cars that I buy. I recently bought a 97 Toyota Rav IV and tried to do the same but I can't find the horn. I have looked everywhere that I could think of, put my head under the hood while someone inside honks away til i am near deaf. (the factory horns are useless in traffic but darn loud up close) DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE FACTORY HORN IS IN A 97 TOYOTA RAV IV PLEASE? I have bought the Stebel and it looks great in the box. Iowa Guy
  5. Bought a used Hannigan Classic sidecar and will have the local dealer (UNB Customs) mount it soon. It came off a HD Ultra Classic so the mounts are a bit different. It has the electric camber, disc brake and dampner. Dealer will order parts Monday and let me know when they will be in. I plan on installing a new rear tire on the RSMV and new rear brake pads plus flushing the brake fluid on the rear. This should take care of the need to get to the rear for awhile. It comes with the quick disconnect brake line so I can dismount the car easily. I talked in depth with Muffinman and got the courage to buy it. My wife loves the idea of comfort while riding. I don't have the heart to tell her she is still on the back of the bike and the dogs get the car. :whistling:
  6. I haven't posted here for awhile as I haven't had a ride. Today I traded my 53 Mercury for a 98 Ultra Classic Anniversary edition that is pretty sweet. I decided I would rather be riding then sitting at a car show!
  7. I have to admit, it was kind of a between quezy and exciting when I got settled on the seat, adjusted the mirrors and fired up the motor. My daughter was standing next to me as I took the helmet off the mirror and handed it to her. She asked "Are you sure you don't want to wear this?" I'm living on the edge today kiddo. I think I muttered "hoka key." I belive that means "It's a good day to die." I rolled backwards out of the driveway and dropped it into gear. When I make my first stop I went to move my feet and had no where to put them. Odd. As I made my left turn I banged my head on the side window. Damn! Should have worn the helmet. And what the hell it this thing digging into my butt? Seat belt? Haven't seen one of them in a while!! You see, it was the first time since March of this year I have been in a car. Even sitting in one as a passenger let alone behind the wheel. I've been on my bike every day since mid March no matter the weather or conditions. So for most the riders I know in my area think I'm nuts. A daily seven month riding season in Nebraska? Nobody does that anymore. And I'm not done. I hasn't snowed yet. LOL! But tomorrow will be the true test. I have to go to Walmart and wiggle my way through the parking lot in a 3,700 car and find a parking spot. Yikes! Maybe I'll wear the helmet for that. Now I need to find a car for my daughter. She "borrowed" it in March. Wish me luck. Mike
  8. Illinois, east bound I-74 mile markers 154, 155. About 2:35 P.M. dark blue 1st Gen MK II. We were in the cage, on our way home from Omaha to Indy. Had to drive the car because of a tight schelule, could not afford weather delays, etc. The fog for about 100 miles leaving Omaha was terrible, was actually glad to be in the car. If this mystery rider is a member here, let us know.
  9. I read a recent thread about using car tires for the rear of their gold wings........Will this work on a 2004 Yamaha RS Venture? And why would I do this. I will be needing to replace my tires shortly and just want to know. Okay, I know someone out there has some experience with this; help me out.
  10. I will be in DC on business over the Columbus Day weekend. I Have three days off and what to take a road trip to see the fall colors. I will be in a rental car so bike issues are not relevent. I am thinking Penn? Any Suggestions? Thanks.
  11. OK,I am giving the "Darkside" a shot. I am doing this for two reasons,1: Ive read alot on different forums about blowouts on motorcycle this summer,Heat related?? I dont know. 2: Weight carrying capacity, on a Wing the ONLY MC tire that has a rear 992 LB rating is an Elite 3,The rest are 827LB..way too low in my opinion. Avg mileage on rear MC tires on a WING is 8-9000 miles,A Wing eats up tires. Ive ridden with alot of guys that are PEGSCRAPERS running Car Tires and watched the amount of tread intact with the ground and it is alot more than you think. I put mine on today, are there any differences? Yes but very Slight. You CAN feel a bit of roll going from straight down the road to a hard,REAL hard curve BUT it is ever so slight. The ride is way smoother than a MT and the 2 things that I like is....It is a Run-Flat tire AND 1201 LB rear tire rating. One reason I never tried it on the Venture is the amount of air pressure it takes to seat a Car Tire on a Venture,My opinion only is that was just to dangerous in MY eyes. The Goldwing is different,A car tire seats as easy as if you were installing on a car,no high pressures to seat it. I did not balance as I am running Centramatic Wheel balancers both front and rear. The ride is SILKY smooth as far as I ran it up to which was 113 MPH,then backed off. My speedometer was not affected, reading the same as it was with the motorcycle tire which is dead on accurate on the 2009/2010 models. The tire I am trying is a brand new Kumho 195/55/R16 Ecsta Run Flat. I will keep you informed on how I like it but so far A-OK................................. I AM NOT RECOMMENDING TO ANYONE ESPECIALLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM AS THE RUN FLAT TIRES CAN LOOSE AIR IF A NAIL OR WHATEVER GETS IN IT AND YOU WILL NOT KNOW IT FOR AWHILE UNLESS YOU MONITOR CLOSELY. THIS ALSO IS NOT ENDORSED BY ANYONE AT VENTURERIDER.ORG , JUST MY PERSONAL CHOICE.
  12. Not MC related but I found this very interesting. http://wardsauto.com/ar/thorium_power_car_110811/ Then there is this...notice the name of the car. Very fitting. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/01/13/not-in-detroit-cadillac-world-thorium-fuel-concept/
  13. Joyce & I were heading for one of our local restaurants tonight and got rear ended by a young girl either going to fast and not paying attention or being distracted in some way. The only good thing was we were in our car instead of on the bike tonight. Joyce had twisted her ankle earlier in the day so was limping thus we took the car. We had stopped for a traffic light and as it turned green I started to go and that was when she rammed her car into the back of my Kia Sorento. Even then it broke loose my spare tire from under the car and hit with enough force to flatten the bumper & bend my Curt hitch. It did a number on her car taking the entire front out. It could have been worse I think if I hadn't been moving. Joyce did go to emergency to have her neck checked as she got a bit of whiplash. Docs are saying bruised muscles. I think she'll be sore in the morning. One can't ever be vigilant enought it seems. Larry
  14. Can these engines be started on the bench. I know that a chevrolet engine can be started outside of the car, can ours? I am thinking of an 83-84 1200. Thanks Scot
  15. Dear Diary, Just moved to Texas! Now this is a state that knows how to live!! Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. It is beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here. June 14th: Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshipper. June 30th: Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus and rocks. What a breeze to maintain. No more mowing the lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here. July 10th: The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used to this kind of heat? At least, it's kind of windy though. But getting used to the heat is taking longer than I expected. July 15th: Fell asleep by the community pool. Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body. Missed 3 days of work. What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though. Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this. July 20th: I missed Lomita (my cat) sneaking into the car when I left this morning. By the time I got to the hot car at noon, Lomita had died and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag, then popped like a water balloon. The car now smells like Kibbles and $hits. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat. Good ol' Mr. Sun strikes again. July 25th: The wind sucks. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is on the fritz and the AC repairman charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts. July 30th: Been sleeping outside on the patio for 3 nights now, $225,000 house and I can't even go inside. Lomita is the lucky one. Why did I ever come here? Aug. 4th: Its 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost $500 and gets the temperature down to 85. I hate this stupid state. Aug. 8th: If another wise ass cracks, 'Hot enough for you today?' I'm going to strangle him. Damn heat. By the time I get to work, the radiator is boiling over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!! Aug. 9th: Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and when I sat on the seats in the car, I thought my ass was on fire. My skin melted to the seat. I lost 2 layers of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and ass . . . Now my car smells like burnt hair, fried ass, and baked cat. Aug 10th: The weather report might as well be a damn recording. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do •••• for 2 damn months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week. Doesn't it ever rain in this damn state? Water rationing will be next, so my $1700 worth of cactus will just dry up and blow over. Even the cactus can't live in this damn heat. Aug. 14th: Welcome to HELL! Temperature got to 115 today. Cactus are dead. Forgot to crack the window and blew the damn windshield out of the car. The installer came to fix it and guess what he asked me??? "Hot enough for you today?" My sister had to spend $1,500 to bail me out of jail. Freaking Texas . What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here?? Will write later to let you know how the trial goes.
  16. Got back from Pontiac Car club Car Show in Simcoe Ontario last night with a third place win with my 2000 Roadstar Silverado -out of 6 bike entered in show,There were 4 sport bikes and a on/off road like scooter which was chopped and lowered.Got fair judging I think as I didn't think I would even got a second look competing against the more popular Sport Bikes that everyone usually likes.
  17. A man and his wife were driving home one very cold night when the wifeasks her husband to stop the car. There was a baby skunk lying at the sideof the road, and she got out to see if it was still alive. It was, and she said to her husband, "It's nearly frozen to death. Canwe take it with us, get it warm, and let it go in the morning?" He says, "O.K., get in the car with it." "Where shall I put it to get it warm?" He says, "Put it in between your legs. It's nice and warm there." "But what about the smell?" "Just hold its little nose." And then the fight started!
  18. Check out this car combo built by a long time good friend of mine. He has taken hundreds of healys from all over the US and various places in Canada and fully rebuilt them. Not all with a V12 though, this one is his personal car. I believe it is supposed to produce between 80 and 90 HP/cyl http://www.britishv8.org/Other/MartinJansen.htm
  19. After being married for 50 years, I took a careful look at my wife one day and said... "Fifty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10 inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 18 year old girl. Now...I have a $500,000.00 home, a $35,000.00 car, a nice big bed and a large screen TV. But, I'm sleeping with a 68 year old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things." My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me; "Go out and find a hot 18 year old girl. And I would make sure that you would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa and watching a 10" TV." Aren't older women Great! They realy know how to solve and old guy's Problems!
  20. dose any one have the long ROYALE emblen want to put it on the back of my little car
  21. What happened? I took off my wheels and had new tires mounted. Got it all back together, backed into the street, put it in first, but when I let the clutch out it bound up like when you forget to release the parking brake on your car. With the clutch in, or in neutral, it moves freely. I've done this before and never had any trouble. Any ideas?
  22. Just unvailed tonight here is the ‎911 Remembrance trophy for first place in the car show. Twin towers done in mirror. Very cool and one of a kind. If you guys know of someone who has a custom car and would like a chance to get in on this let them no and register on the web site. I am just so excited about being involved with so many great people and being part of a really great cause with a chance to help so many. I hope my fellow VENTURERIDERS are planning to attend because registration is limited. http://external.ak.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=AQBi_augJeuT8nm7&w=90&h=90&url=http%3A%2F%2F911remembrancelasvegas.org%2Fimages%2FPCmotorcycle.jpg 911 Remembrance Motorcycle Run ‎911remembrancelasvegas.org The 9/11 Remembrance organization is honored to announce a special memorial - 9/11 Remembrance, Igniting The Spirit Of Unity - with events planned on September 9, 10, and 11 of 2011.
  23. I wasn't sure where to post this. It's about tires, but it's on a sidecar rig and it's got a little bit of darkside throw in for good measure. I decided to put it where I thought it might get the most eyes. I have a '83 with a California Friendship I sidecar. I've been getting about 3k miles out of a Dunlop 404 on the rear. Ideally with a sidecar rig I'd run a car tire but after doing MUCH digging, it appears that a car tire isn't an option with the 16'' wheel. So I'm looking for the meanest, nastiest, live forever tire I can find. It looks like a lot of people are running Avon Vemon's or Dunlop Elite 3's. Is there anything else I should be looking at? I see a lot of chatter about the Avon's cracking so I'm shying away from them, but the E 3's in 1st Gen sizes aren't radials. I don't know why, but I think I should be running a more modern radial tire. Any issues with running bias ply's? I even looked into swapping in a 15'' Vmax wheel but couldn't find any one that had actually done it and there is very little clearance between the swingarm and the stock tire. So even if you could get a Vmax wheel on there, I doubt that I could find a car tire that would clear. Thoughts? Comments? Rude remarks?
  24. Just got back from a vacation with the family. We went over to Minneapolis for a getaway. While there, we took the car over towards Lake City MN. Lake City is on the Mississippi river which makes up the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin. If you ever get a chance to take a bike trip along the river, DO IT.....It is really beautiful country. Red Wing, Lake City, Zumbro Falls, Wabasha. I'm sure the wisconsin side is just as nice. nothing like seeing sailboats etc. on Lake Pepin (mississippi) at Lake City. All in all, a beautiful day, even in the car. I know there is a posting on this kind of a ride in the roads and destinations, but I couldnt help throwing out a reminder.
  25. this past month 7 motorcyclist were killed within an hour of my house. two couples were taken out at one time by one car. I didn't know any of them but it sure was close to home. Each one was killed because a car driver wasn't paying attention or doing something stupid. the only exception to this was a young man who hit a cow on a sport bike. there is just too many cars out there, be careful.
