  1. sad: to say i might have to sell the 1984 royal. im still fighting a workers comp case. and i still owe$2500 on the car. to have it paid in full. i know the bike wont bring in that much? it does run but like allways it needs some TLC. i have put $$ into it. and im sure a good paint job and some tunning will bring this bike back to its glory days. when the weather gets better. i will go out and uncover it and snap some pics. i know pics can make it look nice. and seeing as ones on this site have not rode it? they still might give a good offer for it? EUSA1 mike did a small run on it when he was kind enough to help me get it to my place and out of storage. he might be able to give a fair opion on the bike should he be so inclined to do so? if i should settle my workers comp cliam this summer i would be in the market for another one. now i want people to understand i am not asking in any way for help again to save the bike and keep the car? you all work hard for your money. yes i would like to keep it. but i need my car. thats an all around transportaion. as the bike is not. like i said when i get time to take pictures i shall post them. thank you all sincerly james aka oldgoat.
  2. This may belong in the "Jokes" threads. . . . As most of you know, there was quite a blaze in the Daytona 500 last week when the 42 car broke, Montoya lost control, and the car nailed the back end of one of the track's jet dryers. To call it a small blaze would be an understatement as the line of fire stretched across the width of the track thanks to 200 gallons of jet fuel. Add the 30+* banking and fighting it was "fun" too. It took a fork lift to get what was left of the truck off the track. Well, there were comments made by the broadcast crew over the track's use of Tide laundry detergent to clean the remains of the fire and the stuff used to kill it off the track so they could go back racing. Tide has taken that piece of film and made a commercial out of it. The captions read " You keep inventing stains.", then "We'll keep inventing ways to get them out."
  3. So I'm comming home from speedweeks yesterday morning after getting in to hotel @ 130 am. My roomy and I got up about 615. His van was heading back to NC and I was heading home in Central FL. I decided to go down 95 and across to avoid the possibility of big traffic jams in Orlando. It was pretty foggy @ 7 when I was finnaly loaded and pulling out. I jumped on th slab and rode maybe 30 min. There was 2 trucks running one behind the other, then the box semi jumped over to right lane to pass the car hauler. Well they rode side by side for 10-15 miles. So by now I have probly 6-9 cars behind me also waiting to pass these guys. Finnaly I see that in front of the car hauler he is comming up on a car and will have to slow to keep from running him over. NOPE he just starts comming over into my lane. I'm blowing the horn (stebel) flashing the lights he just cuts over. So now I have to back off a little more because the gentleman driver has taken my "safe distance" away. Finnaly another 3-4 miles and the box truck clears the traffic in the right lane and he moves back over. Mr car hauler? Oh no now he is going to pass the box guy that has been trying to pass him for I dunno 30 miles now. All of a sudden KA_POW and dust etc from the right rear of the trailer. Startled me but I knew what it was pretty much. He had blown a tire on the trailer. Next step slow up, waveing left hand so cars behind dont run you over while you are slowing and I moved to the extreem left side of the lane. Pieces comming out from under the trailer. Then the tire gator, the tread comes out squggiling and squirming. I dont think any two of them do the same thing when they get thrown off. All was good, good Lord kept me safe and I waved to Mr courtious car hauler as I went by smiling. No not the one finger salute either, but I did thik about it. DJ Fl
  4. If there remains any lingering doubts about fitting a car tyre to a motorcycle, then this may help. While I accept that it isn't definitive, in any way, it certainly is more useful than idle speculation and prejudice. In any event, it's a terrific video and only just over 2 minutes: Edit: Both the bikes in the video are fitted with car tyres ... Lean angles seem to be decently manageable. 5. I am going to be stripping & cataloging the parts bike. The engine has 60K mile & I would like to remove it, crate it & store it for future rebuild. What is the best way to get it out of the frame. My available lifting tools are a car floor jack. car transmission jack, a bottle jack, as well as a full car engine crane. Now on my 81 CB750 I found the easiest way to remove the engine was to remove all the mounts on the left side, lay her down & remove the right motor mounting points. When I lift the frame up, the engine is sitting nicely on the floor w/o a problem. I read Scott MacMartin's write up http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39013 but it really doesn't clarify the actual removal. So to the ones on here who have pulled their Gen1 engines, how did you do it?
  6. Hi all, New to this site, not new to riding, or old bikes, or turning wrenches. Currently I have a 76 KZ900, 85 V65 and the couch, which is what I call my 86 Venture. I'm not satisfied with the way she's running. I sync'ed the carbs last nite with good results however she seems to idle rich (smell gas in exhaust). I've been through many carbs over the years, both motorcycle and car but I'll admit, the CV carbs are a different breed. My question; are there mixture adjustment screws on these and if so, where the heck are they?
  7. looking for recommendations for tire pressure for the following set up Royal Star Venture Nexxan Car Tire on Rear Wheel Side Car setup Anyone with similar set up please respond
  8. Hello: Does anyone here on the site have experience with a Nissan Murano? Time to replace my wife's vehicle, she found a one owner local trade at one of our local car dealerships. 2004 with 79K. Excellant condition, SL model with many nice features, new tires. $11,000 is their bottom dollar. We kept it overnight, seems very nice. Runs good, very comfortable. Grandson of course liked the rear overhead DVD entertainment center. Thoughts and advice appreciated....
  9. I grew up with basic first aid because we back packed and hunted in remote areas. In the Air Force I was a security /police Law enforcement first responder. I always have a first aid kit on my vehicles. Tonight I had 2 wrecks that happened in front of me hours apart. Both were ugly I don't know what the cause was on either. The first was a mutable roll over with no seat belts on the passengers. I pulled out the survivors and stopped the bleeding until the CHP and EMT showed up. The 2nd was 3 hrs later same freeway other direction 1/2 mile away they flipped and landed on the guardrail cutting the car in half. I hope the car seats were empty I could not find any children. I don't think the driver survived, I did CPR and first aid but it was a lost cause I'm afraid. As motorcyclist we should all be prepared to respond to emergency's. In this case I was on my Virago and only had a small first aid kit. The best part of the kit was my training. If you don't have basic first aid you should go to the red cross and get trained, you could save the life of a friend or loved one. Do not be afraid to help most states have good Samaritan laws that protect you from liability and it is the right thing to do. Ride safe Rod
  10. Just wondering if anyone knows the best way to take care of or clean vinyl stripes on a car. Bought the car in '09 (2007 Mustang GT) and the dealer had added the stripes to it after it came in from a lease. A year later the stripes became "mottled" so I had them replaced. Now they are looking "mottled" again. Normal wash and wax when I do the car. I've tried vinyl cleaner but doesn't seem to give them any protection and the discolouration comes back again. If I replace them again I'll get the stripes painted on ! Suggestions?
  11. After being married for 40 years, I took a careful look at my wife oneday and said, "Forty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bedand watched a 10-inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep everynight with a hot 23-year-old girl. Now ... I have a $500,000.00 home, a $35,000.00 car, a nice big bedand a large screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 63-year-old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things." My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find ahot 23-year-old girl and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa bedand watching a 10-inch black and white TV. Aren't older women great? They really know how to solve an old guy's problems.
  12. i Here in Florida I take out the thermostat on my trucks and cars no nee for heat and that's really the only use for one in a car. But what about a 1999 1300 Venture will it effect fan etc... or nothing?????
  13. Anyone else following the Barrett jackson collector car auction now? 1954 mecedes gullwing just went for $2 000 000. Where do people get that kind of money for a car that you should not drive and put in a climate controllled atmosphere? Not from being a Ford technician let me tell you.
  14. This happened about a mile from my house saturday. Another driver says they didn't see the motorcyle. It is encouraging to see law enforcement telling people to look out for motorcycles. The guy they interviewed on the 250 Kawasaki has his bike insured with me. This is his second bike. He totaled the first one this summer when a car pulled out in front of him. Luckily he wasnt hurt. www.walb.com/story/16472795/troopers-urge-driver-to-be-aware-of-motorcyclists
  15. Hey all, I've managed to break the car mount for my Garmin Zumo 550. Darn thing lost suction on the windshield and fell on the dash breaking the input jack. I use it in the truck during the winter to listen to XM radio. I'm probably going to just buy a new one online, but thought I'd ask if anyone might want to sell theirs. This is what it looks like. http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/marinerfan/default/zumo-car-mount--gallery-msg-132621887928.jpg Bob
  16. Inquiring minds want to know?! I have a 1/32 scale Ninco digital slot car layout with 82.5 feet of twisties & straights that I just got back up running after a 2.5 year busy break from it. Tomorrow I'll be tuning up my 70 chipped cars so they will run good again after sitting for 2.5 years. It will run up to 8 cars at a time on a 2 lane track with lane changers you can actuate for your car from your controller. Very cool racing action! My layout has a lot of little "scenes" with exotic cars, vintage motorcycles, a gnarly biker gang, a winners circle, etc... I guess I'm really into cars since I also have a 1/43 (mostly), 1/24, & 1/18 scales metal die-cast car, bus, truck, 4WD, motorcycle...collection with 350+ vehicles. I've been trying to break into the model railroading scene. About 3 years ago I bought most everything I need to make an HO layout with enough engines & rolling stock for about 8 complete trains. At this point I'm seriously considering trying to turn my HO stuff into N scale stuff & doing an N scale layout (room/size constraints in my house). Anyways, these are some of my hobbies. Is anyone else out there into any of this stuff too? Doug Nordin
  17. i saw a 1999 rsv for sale here in peru IL for $4800 has 65.000 miles on the clock. a few scratches on the left side? owner said it fell in the garage. and hit some tools hanging on the wall. i just want to say this is my first time on a second generation. and i was rusty on the slow turns. yep i duck walked it in a u turn. i must say for a nice day 52 out i enjoyed the 2 mile ride. allfull trustworthy guy. i did leave my car keys and my car at his place. this bike did make some kind of a chirp noise in 4th at 60 mph? maybe i was lugging it? not sure. i dont have $4800 but if i did im just not sure if the bike is worth that price? but i did enjoy my little first ride of 2012.
  18. Some or you may have remembered that I bought my wife a new toy about 3 months ago. It is a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire. She loves the car but hated the stereo as, like me, she is spoiled by commercial free satellite radio. So yesterday I had a new Sony stereo installed with Sirius satellite radio. She is a very happy camper now. The problem is, the Crossfire is not exactly a winter car so it won't get a lot of use for a few months. I wanted something with a silver face to match the existing dash as close as possible. To get one in silver, I ended up having to go with a marine unit but I think it turned out pretty well and it sounds fantastic.
  19. Took the bike out today to run some errands. On my way home I had to stop at COSTCO to pick up a few things for CHRISTmas Eve dinner. Traffic sucked as everybody was turning left into the parking lot. Went past COSTCO to make a u-turn back into the lot. A young male (18-22ish) was in a small red car in front of me. I could tell he was on his cell phone, I was ticked as I wanted him to concentrate on making his u-turn so I could make mine. It was then that I saw a guy in a wheel chair coming down the sidewalk, crossing the entrances of a couple of business on that side. I had to wonder where he was coming from, as there was nothing to the east of where he was coming from. You see, this guy had one arm, and one good leg. He was pushing with his right leg, while pushing/spinning the rear wheel with his right arm. He was working VERY hard at each push/spin. I watched how much impact some gravel on the wheelchair ramp had as he went up the 8% wheelchair ramp slope. I think I was just in awe on how hard this guy was working to get somewhere. I kept wondering where he was coming from and how far he had already gone. The kid in the red car finally made his u-turn. About time ! Then it was my turn. As I turned I saw the red car turn into a business parking lot. Next thing I know, the kid had jumped out and walked up to the wheelchair guy. A brief conversation had the young man pushing the wheelchair up the road as I passed. I pulled into COSTCO. As I ran inside I kept thinking about what I had just witnessed. That kid committed to pushing that wheelchair.. How far ? A couple of blocks ? A mile ? I ran through COSTCO grabbing my stuff while thinking about that kid pushing the wheelchair. It was then when I decided that I wanted to get out of there ASAP. I wanted to see if I could either push the next mile, give the kid a ride back to his car, or at least shake his hand. I got in line and kept thinking about what I had seen. I only had three small things to buy. The ladies in front of me turned to me and insisted that I go ahead of them. ( 2nd nice gesture I had seen in the last 15 minutes. ) I checked out and ran to my bike. I rode my motorcycle up a mile to the west, turned around and then to the south. Couldn’t find either of them. Don’t know where they both went. Finally went back to where the car was parked and couldn’t find that either. All I know two things now; There is a mom and dad somewhere that should be very proud of their son, and that the next time I want to be the guy who does it, not the one who just thinks about it.
  20. I just installed a car tire on my motorbike (with a sidecar) and was looking for suggested tire pressure. The tire is a Nankang CX668 165/80 R15 87T BSW (AS). Anyone with this type of setup please respond Thanks
  21. ...both cars got me VERY FRUSTRATED with where auto digital technology is going...... So, my lady's lease is up on her RX350 and she still tolerates me enough to be invited along to go test riding with her. We took the Q5 and the new RX350 out this weekend. Both are within a grand of each other, but Lexus might give her a slightly better lease for being a return customer, so price not the issue. The newer Lexus grew an inch everywhere and so I wanted her to consider the Audi because it is smaller than the RX350 and because I thought her current one was kind of big to begin with. BUT this is my frustration; it is on the same topic that I've been complaining about to her whenever I get in her car. And that is that these high tech cars actually make driving more cumbersome, they actually make you less attentive to the road. I can operate all the controls on my cheapo GM car way faster than on her car while doing the exact same thing. For example, changing the climate controls on her Lexus can involve up to five hits on the touch screen, which involves reaching to the dash up to five times; whereas on my car I can practically do it without looking. Additionally, the same thing with the GPS; which I was cursing last weekend on a trip to Toronto with her; if I had my cheapo Garmin I surely would have been 5 minutes faster finding our address. So NOW we go to the new Q5 and the RX350 and here is my big beef...on both these cars they have this mouse control stick on the right hand console near the gear shift. It has buttons around the mouse to click your selections. To operate the environment controls and GPS (and much more) you have to move the mouse controller and make your selections using the surrounding buttons, and that involves watching the mouse track along on the screen to various menu options. So your eyes are off the road even more than before!!! PLUS, you have to train yourself on all this. That means that anybody getting into the car cannot quickly operate something. We did a lot of internet surfing on these cars before hand. Auto reviewers say that these digital systems are the most intuitive yet. I say TO HECK with them. My biggest beef about this new technology is how UNintuitive it is. So when I hopped into both these cars I didn't let the sales guys show me how they worked. I wanted to see if I could do it as a total stranger to the system, and let me tell you I'd have to sit there for 5 minutes just to access the GPS or change the temperature....absolutely stupid. The only answer that the sales guys had for my frustration was that these systems can do everything with voice commands. Well, so what, that is the same voice system on her car now and she could never get it working because it would never recognize her commands from one day to the next. PLUS even if the car got trained on her voice, then it would be totally useless for the next guy that got in it...like me. I'm so flippin exasperated about this; I'm surprized that the auto consumer hasn't given more negative feedback about this. Has anyone had any experience with these systems? You can all forget about the you're "getting too much like an old fart, Swifty" replies...cuz I'm smart and I know it...just ask Tuckett.
  22. How many Ventureriders are currently on the darkside a.k.a rear car tire? What front tire do you use? For informational purposes only. Not trying to start something. PLease do not reply if you are not running on a rear car tire a.k.a. the darkside. Thanks Joe
  23. One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.' He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So ... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it! Have a garbage-free day!
  24. Leaving Milwauke today and at a large intersection I had a fall. The intersection had two left turning lanes, three straight through lanes and a right turn lane. As I approached the intersection turning left with an advanced turn the light turned yellow. I was not going fast as I was not familiar with the road and I slowed right down as the light changed. I looked back to see if Rhonda was would be okay and she stopped thank goodness. As I looked forward a car jumped the green and was right there so I hit the brakes and went down on the left side, and fell off the bike. The bike rolled/flipped to the right side and stopped. The guy who jumped the green before I could get all the way through the intersection and appearantly swerved away from me but never stopped. An older gentleman who turned right behind chased the car for a mile and then told the kid he caused an accident and he just drove away. The older fellow got his license and gave it to me. Three other people stopped to help and said they saw it and gave me there numbers. The police said nothing they can do as there was no accident as he went through a green but also stated he should have waited till I cleared the intersection. I have bruise on my knee and one on my elbow, no real road rash but a small tear in good blue jeans. The four crash bars did there job scraped but the front two bent backwards and broke the tabs in the centre of both lower fairings. That is all the damage that I can see People and the police were very nice and helpful. Two different officers showed up as they were not sure whos jurisdiction it was. The one officer was very concerned and very considerate to Rhonda feelings as she was obviously very shaken watching the whole thing. Obviously we were both very lucky as it could have been much worse, so all is good. Brad
  25. It is hard to believe this movie is the same age as my 83 Venture. Not much into spooky movies, but being a car guy, this one was interesting. It is about a 58 Plymouth. RandyA
