  1. pics taken by me at the show friday 7 th jan 2011 in toronto. http://s155.photobucket.com/albums/s310/chabicheka/motorcycle%20show%20jan%202011/
  2. Under the front left carb the "rubber" "intake manifold" seems to have a crack. This looks like it will be a very ugly switch. I have looked in the online manuals and parts fieshs I could find and it seems this part is not pictured. So what is it called and how do I get knew ones.... should I change all 4 if I am going to take all of it apart or is it repairable?
  3. Is anyone interested in getting a steering head bearing wrench. These will work on 1st & 2nd Gen's. It allows you to set pre-load on bearings per service manual specs. PDF of procedure to set pre-load is attached below for 1st & 2nd gens. The MKI manual did not list this procedure, but it is identical to the MKII procedure. I sold out of the last order I had for these this summer and have had a few requests for some more. Trying to get a feel for how many to order. PM me or post to this thread if interested. Here is a link to previous posts on these. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45268 I sold about a 150 of them and everyone seemed satisfied with them. Yamaha version is around $80. If my price is the same as it was they will be $23 including US shipping. Canada will be $24. I would suggest any Canadians pay for priority shipping if they wanted them fast. I had some that took 3 weeks to get delivered to Canada. I sent one to Guam and it got there in 7 days. If you would like to pay at this time, I would appreciate it, have not been back to work for long, so it would help. I will order them in a few days, and ship as soon as I get them. paypal is gary@dinges.com If you don't have a paypal account, let me know and I will send mailing address. 4. Was just watching the news about the 402 in Canada is closed due to ice and snow. They were showing snowmobiles out helping people. Bad situation and hope everybody is OK. But what I found interesting is how the newscaster ended his report. Said "In Port Huron until further notice, Canada is Closed"
  5. Just a note to let you know about excellent service. Marca split the zipper on her Frogg Togg Jacket. We had bought our suits at Hully Gully in London last year, but didn't have the reciepts any more. I emailed FT with my problem and within a day a got a note back stating their policy, and that they had experinced problems with zippers being too light and coming apart, so I could ship the jacket back to them and the would see what could be done. So that's just what I did. Here comes the fun part, I shipped via Expedited Parcel, Canada Post. Put it in the mail on Oct 12, it arrived in Mississauga the day following, and sat there until Oct 24 at which time it progressed to International shipping and finally left Canada on the 25, arriving at FT on the first. I then informed FT that the item had arrived, finally, and they weren't impressed, but told me that the turn around would be 2 weeks, and so not to expect it any sooner. I told them I understood. Yesterday,,,,, a package was delivered,,,,(about 1 week after it arrived at their place, and in that time they even fixed it it ) the same jacket with a new upgraded zipper,,,,, no charge Mr Norg, pleasure doing business with you, have a great day. THANKS FROGG TOGGS for the excellent service, and for making up lost time on the part of Canada Post. I will buy FT again, but not Canada Post
  6. Garfield on the oil crisis A lot of folks can't understand how we came To have an oil shortage here in Canada . Well, there's a very simple answer - Nobody bothered to check the oil. We just didn't know we were getting low. The reason for this is purely geographical. Our oil is located in: ALBERTA SASKATCHEWAN BRITISH COLUMBIA MANITOBA COASTAL NEW BRUNSWICK COASTAL NEWFOUNDLAND Our DIPSTICKS are located in OTTAWA Any Questions ??? NO ?... Didn't think so.
  7. A Somali arrives in Vancouver as a new immigrant to Canada ... He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says ... 'Thank you Mr. Canadian for letting me in this country, giving me housing, money for food, free medical care, free education and no taxes!' The passerby says, 'You are mistaken, I am Mexican.' The man goes on and encounters another passerby ... ' Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in Canada !' The person says, 'I not Canadian, I Vietnamese.' The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand and says .... 'Thank you for the wonderful Canada !' That person puts up his hand and says, 'I am from Middle East , I am not Canadian !' He finally sees a nice lady and asks ... 'Are you a Canadian ?' She says , 'No, I am from Africa !' Puzzled, he asks her, 'Where are all the Canadians ?' The African lady checks her watch and says ....'Probably at work'
  8. If anyone is planning a motorcycle trip to a part of Canada you havnt been before, maybe check out www.Vridetv.com . They have ridden a VRod across Canada and taken pretty high quality video from just about everywhere in Canada. They have found some great spots and even caught some wildlife like bears and Rocky Mountain sheep in their travels. They are mostly short videos, but they will give you a great idea about the roads and the type of the terrain and amenities around. Ill start you off with the Alberta Badlands and Dinosaur Provincial Park, just because its not too far from here. http://www.vridetv.com/sddinosaurprovpk.html Brian:smile5:
  9. Local (Vancouver, BC Canada) dealer is advertising a used 2006 RSTD rated at 101 HP. I questioned them about this stating it should be 97HP. They emailed back that in the US it is 97 but in Canada it's 101 HP. Anyone ever heard of this??... I haven't.
  10. I have an 06 venture and someone decided they needed the top of my CB antenna more than I did. Replacement in Canada from dealer is $230.00. Does anyone have any reasonably priced alternatives?
  11. To help everyone get into the mood for Canada Day on July1 here is a catchy new video. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWQf13B8epw&feature=player_embedded]YouTube- Canadian, Please[/ame] Brian
  12. The Motorcycle ride for dad's 10th anniversary cross canada tour is happening in August. Starting Aug 1 the ride begins in St. Johns's NFLD, and ends in Victoria BC. Aug 29th. You can join the ride for any section or the whole trip. You can check out the Ride for Dad's website to register or for more information. http://www.ridefordadanniversary.org/en/
  13. We made it into Nova Scotia today. In my opinion it pays to travel in the U.S. Our typical fill up in the states for the two bikes was around $20. We found a camp ground in Jonesport, Maine $15 with hydro. Typical hotel $55. In Canada, Filled up today $33, Camped last night in a provicial camp ground $38 + $16 to get into the park, tonight $110 for a room. We are enjoying ourselves, nothing better than riding down a road. We had a very friendly boarder guard the other day. I went though first and he asked me if the usual questions and then asked if I was traveling with the bike behind me. Ya, thats my wife. He said, I'll give her a hard time then, lol He told her I had said she's smuggling in heroin, she replied, he would say something like that. Then she added I've gained a few pounds while in the states, your welcome to take that back. If I could do that everyone would be coming to Canada.
  14. On June 1st 2010 my 23 yr old son, Brad, is starting his long planned bicycle ride across Canada. His plan is to take up to 12 weeks and ride across the country to help raise funds and awareness for the Brain Injury Association of Canada and their related support societies . His ride will take him close to 4,700 miles from the west coast to the east coast. So if you are riding to or from the Kootneys and happen to see a young man all alone on the highway pedaling his bicycle east.... please ..... stop and say hello to Brad. thanks info on his ride: http://www.brainstormride.org or send me a message.
  15. Please read this; our duty to react is in our hands!..Sharon K When the Canadian dollar was low in value, foreign companies bought up most of the businesses in Canada at garage sale prices. Foreign owners have closed down the canning factories in Exeter (north of London, ON) and in the Niagara area. As a result the local farmers have no place to sell their produce or have it preserved. In the soft fruit producing area of Niagara, farmers have ripped out their peach trees because other than road side stands who will buy their fruit? The big companies have already decided and publicly announced that it is cheaper to buy canned peaches from Greece, so that is what you will see in stores. The farm land is being sold to developers and turned into big house and condo developments. The canning factory in Exeter was eventually taken over by a co-op of former employees and they will try to make a go of it but it sounds kind of shaky. The politicians stood by and did nothing. Garlic is no longer produced in Canada because it comes from China at a price cheaper than the cost of production in Canada. That's all you see in stores and there is no Canadian produced garlic to choose from even at a higher price. Maybe the high taxes in Canada have something to do with it. A small but determined radical group trying to unionize farm labour didn't help matters either. Sure all these trade agreements bring us low cost material goods, but if everyone is out of a job who is going to buy these products? Good luck trying to find 100% Canadian products in stores. The only way to find such a thing is to deal directly with the farmer and leave out the retailer. "FOOD" for thought. More information on this subject..... I WAS BUYING FOOD THE OTHER DAY AT THE COUNTRY MARKET. ON> THE LABEL OF SOME PRODUCTS IT SAID 'FROM CHINA '. FOR EXAMPLE THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF THE MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN FROM CHINA I WAS SHOCKED!! SO FOR A FEW MORE CENTS I BOUGHT THE LIBERTY GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE IS FROM CAL . Another example was in canned mushrooms. No-Name brand came From Indonesia . Next to them were President Choice brand. Produce of Canada !! The P. C. Went into my grocery bag. TAKES FOREVER JUST TO BUY FOOD AND DO LABEL READING !! Are we Canadians and Americans as dumb as we appear --- Or --- is it that we just do not think? While the Chinese, knowingly and intentionally, export inferior and even toxic products and dangerous toys and goods to be sold in North American markets, the media wrings its hands and criticizes the Bush Administration (now Obama Administration) (and the Harper Government!) for perceived errors. Yet 70% of North Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended. Well, duh... why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, CANADA/AMERICA!! Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China ' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ) simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without. Who needs plastic eggs to celebrate Easter? If you must have eggs, use real ones and benefit some North American farmer. Easter is just an example, the point is do not wait for the government to act. Just go ahead and assume control on your own. THINK ABOUT THIS, If 200 million North Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favour . . . Fast!! The downside? Some Canadian/American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory. Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! The solution? Let's give them fair warning and send our own message. Most of the people who have been reading about this matter are planning on implementing this on June 4, and continue it until July 4. That is only one month of trading losses, but it will hit the Chinese for 1/12th of the total, or 8%, of their North American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness were worth it... "Remember: June 4 to July 4 " EVEN BETTER. . . START NOW! Send this to everybody you know. Let's show them that we are intelligent Canadians and Americans, And NOBODY can take us for granted. If we can't live without cheap Chinese goods for one month out of our lives, WE DESERVE WHAT WE GET! Pass it on, North America !
  16. For me , knowing, I'd didn't have to worry about money, or time, say a year off with pay. I head straight up, into Canada, and ride as much north as I can, before it turned cold again. Visit friends in upstate new york, and stay in every KOA campground, throught the U.S. & Canada I'd be one happy Camper, But for now, Its just a:draming:
  17. I will be off to Las Vegas July 3rd leaving from Toronto Canada. We must always wear a helmet in Canada so I have a question about helmet laws in the following States? It would be a treat to feel the wind blow thru what little hair I have before it is all gone. Route down: Michigan Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado New Mexico Arizona Nevada Possible route home: Texas Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Florida Georgia Tennessee Kentucky Any knowledge that you might have would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Had a good ride Sunday. Went to Victoria for the "Ride for Dad" to raise funds for prostate cancer research. They had about 800 bikes and raised over $100,000.00 for research. They closed the streets through Victoria so we could run out to Ogden point then start the poker run through Saanich. My three queens weren't even in the running. On average two men a week die of prostate cancer just on Vancouver Island, in Canada it is 12 per week. The numbers have to be much higher in the US just due to higher population. There are about 20 cities in Canada that have this run. They are expecting about 2000 bikes in Vancouver next week. Get that PSA test every year, it can save your life, it saved mine.
  19. Okay I understand alot of laws have changed since terrorism has gotten worse but everything I have heard is what someone believes and not the full gospel. What I am wanting to know is what does an American have to have on them to drive a motorcycle to Canada and then be able to get back into the U.S.A.? I am thinking I also need to check with my insurance to see if I am even convered going there. Not planning on a trip this year but maybe next summer. About a year ago a friend of mine said that a friend of his took his honeymoon in Canada and well they had no problem getting into Canada but could not get out due to U.S.A. issues...
  20. Morning All Just wondering where everyone is getting their accessories from. Hopefully picking up my new 2009 RSV next week so not even sure what I want but looking for suppliers in Canada or suppliers that ship to Canada with resonable rates. Thanks John
  21. Looking for a plug and play LED board for a 2008 Venture. Saw a Canadian link a while back but can't find it now! Thanks!
