  1. This morning when I turned on the key on my "new" '99 RSV, the factory stock horn started blowing. There was also a horn sound :confused24:coming from around the left lower fairing. Turned off the key and the horn(s) silenced. I ended up pushing the plug off the stock horn on the lower right side. Now when when I push the horn button there is a pathetic beep from the lower left fairing. It has progressed to the point there is just a click when I push the button. When I got home, after work,I took that lower fairing off and found a cylindrical "thing" covered by a rubber sleeve. It is the source of the pathetic sound when I push the horn button. There is also a (throttle type )cable running into one end of it. Is this a second horn? Before calling it an afternoon, I hooked the right side horn back up. Now it works properly:scratchchin:. I think the gremlins have realized there is no bell on this bike YET!
  2. greetings i am broke down here in carlsbad nm. haw can i find out if we have any members here without having to scroll through the whole list? bike just clicks when starter button is pushed. also when it is pushed speedometer guage goes from right to left. can i boost bike?
  3. probably a dumb question , but I'll ask it anyway. On a 91 vr will the bikes speakers and the headset speakers play at the same time?? WHen I have the headset button pressed the bikes speakers are not playing and when I dont have the headset button the bikes speakers play but not the headset. Just wandering if they both playor if its ine or the other. Thanks in advance, David
  4. Suddenly, my starter button went from silky smooth to hard to push. It doesn't hang up and keep grinding the starter. My first inclination was to remove that one screw on the bottom and "start exploring" but I thought to first check in here to see if that is wise. I did spray contact cleaner all around the switch without any success. Thanks for any input.
  5. I remember not so long ago someone collecting old 1st gen radios for troubleshooting. Can't remember who it was but i but you have some extra buttons laying around now. Im in need of the frequency up button and the am\fm buttons. If anyoneone can part with a couple small plastic buttons please pm me or let me know where i can get some:whistling:
  6. I had a unique opportunity yesterday morning. I took my 06 RSTD to work and upon my arrival I removed my riding boots and mesh jacket and stuffed them into the left (port) side saddlebag. I also had a sweatshirt in there which I laid on top of my jacket. I closed the lid then realized I left my pager in my jacket pocket so I pushed the lock / button to open the lid again. No luck. The button would not allow me to depress it. I checked the lock with my key to make sure the lock was okay and the key turned freely but there was no way it was going to allow me to depress it and release the lid latches inside. One of my employees was nearby so the two of us pushed and pulled on the lid and the lock / release button to try and get it aligned better in case something was jammed. Still no luck and the button still wouldn't budge. I pryed off the plastic trim plate that surrounds the lock cylinder but that didn't give me access to anything. I had visions of getting the sawzall out of my employees truck and cutting the lid off. As one last attempt before resorting to such drastic measures, I got my assistant to pull up on the rear corner of the lid as hard as he could without breaking it to allow me to get a couple of fingers inside. I managed to grasp the edge of my sweatshirt and pull it out through the crack. The button then worked and the lid was open. We took everything out and tried shutting the lid again and all worked fine, but when I tried locking the lock I had a dickens of a time to get the lock to unlock. Last night I dismantled the whole works and found that when we pushed the lock button down so hard we managed to bend the actuating arm that acts to lock the bag as well as actuating a paddle plate, which in turn pulls on a long rod that then actuates the latches. What a complex assembly for such a simple task! All is straight and true and working properly now, but I would advise all RSTD and second gen riders to be very careful about what they put in those bags and make sure that nothing gets too close to those lid release levers. I also wonder if any of you have run into this problem on your bike before?
  7. Hello all, Is any one able to give me a quick fix or tell what button I have pushed to have lost the New Posts link button on the tool bar for this site. When I log in now as of about 5 days ago, I lost the New Posts link button and the forum of active threads just appears when logging in, instead. Thanks for any help
  8. Hey Don, I am sure we had a New post button on the home page but I do not see it anymore, is it possible to add one ? Maybe there was never one there but it looks like it could fit in there real easy Thanks Brad
  9. Hi All, Just wondering if this is a common problem and/or a difficult one to troubleshoot. I push the on button, all lights come on then after a couple of secs they all go out but the power. This is normal so far but when I engage the set button while riding, nothing!! Any quick fixes? I do have a manual, just hoping it is simple. Thanks in advance, Kim

  11. On a recent trip, I was cruising along on my 88VR at around 120km/hr (about 75mph) under cruise control when suddenly, my stop/run button popped from run to stop. I thought I had pressed the button but it happened several more times after I reengaed the crusie control. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what caused this?
  12. Here's the deal: About got smacked by a truck coming over on me the other day. Had my adult daughter on the back so didn't want to do big time evasive maneuvers. The cager (Ford F150) started coming left. I made eye contact with him in his mirror. He knew I was there but he was bigger and kept on coming. I got on the brakes and the wonderful dual tone factory horns (what a joke Yamaha played on us). Cager came on over, shot me the bird, and continued on up the road. I got home, found a Fiam horn I had. I disconnected my chrome horn down by my right foot and connected the Fiam. Hit the button and only heard a slight bump sound. :fiddle:So, I disconnected the front horn behind the fairing and hit the button again. Same result. Took the Fiam and connected it straight to a battery. Perfect loud sound. I guess I'm getting too much voltage drop to use it on the Venture, but wouldn't think so. Have an identical Fiam horn on my V Star 650 and it works fine. Anyone else try this?
  13. Has anyone ever tested their starter button ONCE you get to it? Can't find anything online about how to do it. Thankx Gary C
  14. Last minute preparations to go for a ride. Homemade table I made last year is great for prepping - oil changes - cleaning - etc. Goes to total of 39'' and is about half height in pictures. Works on hydrolic-ram after the original design of floor jack didn't work out. Works great with multiple height adjustments and can do it with a touch of a button instead of jacking up and down with the jack.Have used it to work on a few other bikes and is great also for lawn tractors and snow blowers.
  15. First let me say, this is NOT meant to be hitting anybody up for donations. While donations of any amount are always appreciated, they are not required in any way. The purpose of this post is to clear up any confusion about HOW you may donate if you so choose. There are a couple of ways you can donate to VentureRider.org. The money is used to help defray my costs of running this site. Software licensing fees, hosting fees, etc. The simplest and most basic way to donate is to click on the "Donate" button on the far right of the upper menu bar at the home page or here on the forum. When you click that button, you will get a page where you can enter whatever amount you choose to donate and then click the "PayPal Donate" button and it will take you to a PayPal login page where you can complete your transaction. You do not need a PayPal account to use this method. You will see a place to login to your PayPal account if you have one but if not, you will see a link to the left of that that says "Don't have a PayPal account" and if you click on that, you can still donate using any major credit card or an e-check. The second way you can donate is through "Subscriptions". You will find this method in the User CP or via the "donate" button in the right menu. In the User CP, just scroll down until you see the link for "Paid Subscriptions" in the left menu. Click on that and you will see several options from which to choose. There are recurring monthly options as low as $2.00 per month. The monthly subscriptions are automatically deducted from your credit card or account each month. There are also options for yearly subscriptions. These are NOT automatically recurring and you will simply get an email the following year reminding you that it has been a year. Again, this option uses PayPal as the payment processor. The third option is the old fashioned way. Simply send me a PM or an email if you wish to donate via a check or money order and I'll send you my address. Again, you are NOT required to donate in order to participate in this club. Those who donate and those who don't have the same full access to everything that we offer. I fully understand that money is tight for many people and I would NEVER want anybody to donate if they are not financially able to do so. For those who can, it is always MUCH appreciated but for those who can't, I consider your participation here a donation in itself and thank you for it.
  16. I dont have a royale 1st gen. but I want to add a PTT button to transmit on the FRS radios my riding club like over the CB. many guys have bought one and they install over the left controls and the big box hangs over and feels flimsy... Not impressive for the $125.00 they paid for it from autocom. The one I have is a big fat rubber one that velcros on but feels uncomfortable. Anyone have a good one they installed on their bike? I'm looking at using a chatterbox CB-50 intercom and it has a mic out and speaker in that works with most radios and cellphones. The Midland setup I have now works but is not comfortable to use nor does it use the bikes power so a 3 hour ride has 1 and a half hours of no communication due to dead batteries.
  17. The last couple days I've noticed that I can't go "back" to a forum... neither the mouse or the "alt back arrow" work under Netscape...??? I have to scroll to the top of the page and click on the directory tree. Strange that the "back button" works fine if I click on one of the "selected" member pictures at the top of the main forum... It works fine with IE but I tend to stay away from that...
  18. OK...here's the continuation of my Christmas Story. As I mentioned in another post yesterday, my wife bought me a TomTom Rider 2 for Christmas. She was so excited that she had surprised me with something that I had wanted (a GPS) for a while now. The problem was, I spent all day yesterday messing with it and could NOT get it to power up. Then I got an email from BradT telling me that another member here had bought the same unit and that he had to hold the power button in HARD to get it to power on. So after reading his email this morning I took it out of the box again and pushed the button VERY HARD and sure enough, it came on in about 2 seconds. All is well. I then played with it for about 30 minutes but pretty much already knew that I was going to return it. The problem is that the TomTom Rider does not have an audio out jack or a built in speaker. The only way to use the voice prompts is to use the included bluetooth headset. That means that not only would I have to buy my wife a bluetooth headset but then some sort of hardware to convert the existing audion system of the RSV to bluetooth in order to use the headsets for the intercom, sterieo, etc. I think that TomTom really missed the mark with this setup. I ended up heading to Best Buy about 10:00 this morning to return the unit. The nice young lady asked me if there was anything wrong with it and I said well the main thing is that it's just not compatible with my bike. She then informed me that there would be a 15% "restocking" fee. I said are you telling me that it is going to cost me about $85.00 to return this product. She replied yes, all the stores do that. I said NO...Walmart doesn't. At any rate, I then asked her what the policy is if the unit is bad and she replied that there would be no restocking fee in that case. I said OK then....I can't get it to turn on. She said that she would have to test it and verify that fact to which I replied...PLEASE...do that now. She took it out of the box and pressed the power button and sure enough, it wouldn't turn on. She took out the AC Adapter and plugged it in and again...it would not turn on. I didn't tell her to press very hard on the button. She shrugged and said hmmmmm.....it must be defective and then gave me a full refund. I'm sure glad that TomTom makes them hard to power up. So now I'm on the fence. I'm trying to decide between the Garmin Zumo 550 and the 450. I know that the popular choice here is the 550 but after comparing them, I don't know that I can justify the extra $300.00. I don't want the XM capabilities and the only other thing that I see is text to voice. Am I missing anything?
  19. Guest

    Odd electrical issue

Was out for a ride with a friend today and noticed that almost every time I pushed the PTT button, the headlight warning light came out on the console. It only happened when it pushed the PTT button - never any other time. Any ideas what would cause that and where to look?
  20. ...for the console that I can buy that is in one piece? I have never had one and the console I got has one that is broken. It would be nice to see that button covered.
  21. Don, When I sign in and click New Posts, I like to scroll through and pick the threads I wish to read. When I have read a thread, I click the "Back" icon in my browser to get back to the list to continue scrolling and reading. I know there are buttons at the bottom of the page for Previous Thread/Next Thread. How about a button for "Back to List?" The same thing is true when I post a reply to a thread except I have to back up through my post and the previous reading to get back to the list. Or am I missing something? The "Back to the List" button would help me and maybe someone else would find it useful as well. As long as it's not a major programming issue. Thanks for your hard work on my favorite site on the www:clap2: Lynn
  22. ...are not working. I know the one that is located by the rear right passenger peg, where is the other one located at? When I press the horn button, the horn is barely audible. Anyone heard of both of the stock horns going out?
  23. Hello everyone who attended the Kitchener Rally. As a new member I really felt welcomed into the group and only wished I would have been able to stay for the whole rally. I lost my passenger push to talk button either on my way out to the Wednesday dinner from Toronto or possible in the parking lot or on the way home. A shot in the dark here just in case someone may have seen the black knob in the parking lot before we all left the Restaurant. The 401 was heavy with construction, so I am sure it probable fell off while I was going over all that uneven pavement.
  24. Hi to all, I have a 99 RSV and my cassette deck will not eject, I can hear a beep sound coming from radio when I hit the eject button but nothing. Woundering if anyone else has experienced this. Screaming Red
  25. Hi to all, I have a 99 venture and on the weekend my cassette would not eject. When I hit the button I could hear a beep through my radio. Has anyone else experienced this before? Screaming Red
