  1. I started my 89 Venture this afternoon and left it running at idle sped to warm up--came back a few minutes later and noticed a werrrrrring sound coming from the lower front of engine--sounded very strange so I began investigating while it was running--after a few minutes it just "shut down"-at about this same time I noticed that my "starter button" had stuck "in" when I started the bike----OK---what do you guys think I ruined when this happened----I tried to restart it and nothing----the battery was hot as fire and showed no charge--i have taken it out and placed it on battery tender charge for tonight---I was just wondering what I might have shorted out or burnt up when the Starter button stuck in......thanks.............Larry
  2. It got up to 38 degrees today. Been below freezing for quite a while. Streets are for the most part dry. Then the itch hit me. Even worse, the forecast for the next week is for temps into the 50's. Came home and dropped the battery in the bike. (The DEKA I pulled out in mid December and no charge since then) and let the pump prime up. Hit the button and it cranked for about 30 seconds and fired up. Ah..... such a sweet sound!! Let her warm up a bit and wandered off around the neighborhood. My face hurts from grinning. Maybe ride to work tomorrow........ The itch is gone.
  3. Need help finding a push button lock for my bushtec trailer. The current lock has to be operated with a key everytime you want to get in. Hoping someone might have an idea on a push button lock similar to our trunk lids. Thanks for any sugguestions.
  4. i was down at the casino. putting $20 in this machine and coins where comming out just as fast as i could hit the red button. man i was on a roll. then i looked up and saw it was a change machine. its going to be a long winter
  5. Here is what is going on, My stereo comes on but you can't hear it either through the speakers or headset. If I turn it up all the way you can hear it a little bit. The CB radio works as it should except when I hit the push to talk button for the passenger it will sometimes transmit and sometimes it won't. After hitting the button a couple of times and error message comes up on the display. I removed the front of the fairing and started to unplug, clean, put grease in and plug things back together. I unplugged the big cable that the ends look like your headset hookup and the stereo started working but the CB didn't work any longer so I assume this is the cable for the cb radio. Has anyone had this trouble? If not I guess I should start at the Passenger control box and work my way through the cb then forward towards the stereo its self. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated OH yea I ride a 2000 RSV Thanks
  6. Today, I tried to use my cruise control, which normally works well. The set and resume lights lit up and then went out almost immediately. The on light did not come on. When I pushed the black power button again, none of the lights lit up. Every second time I pushed the black button, the same two lights (set and resume) would come on for just a second and then go out. Any suggestions on what the problem might be?
  7. Is there a way to send a notification to a member about a thread you may think they would be interested. I can always cut and paste and then send them an PM, but was thinking of forward button, which would send the link to the messages ? Brad
  8. Hello, I have a couple of things working against me here. I am new to the Venture so I am not sure how things should work based on other rides, and I bought my bike used so I do not know what mods/problems the PO may have done/had. I have searched and read all the items on this site I can but have not seen the same issue I have. Okay, When I press the set button, the set light comes on but no cruise engages. If I press and hold the res/acc button for a few seconds, it does engage and seems to work, although with a few mph swing up and down. Not really sure how consistent it should be so not sure if this part is right. Also, once engaged, pressing the res/acc will not increase speed, but press and hold will. Ant ideas where I should start checking?
  9. I found the problem with the headlight. It is the start button............ Wanted to see if anyone here had one to sell before i look at e-bay........ My starter button has melted around the contacts, never saw that before.
  10. I'm working on a '86'vr that I bought as a parts bike. The dealer said that it would only run if they poured gas down the carbs. He didn't want to mess with it. Turns out the fuel pump relay had some thing rattling around inside it, cut it open and found little electrical stuff burned off. Question 1. Can I use the Class relay in place of fuel relay? It plugs right in and runs the fuel pump but, it looks way different than the correct relay. (I'm eliminating the Class system) Question 2. Is the diode in the starting circuit essential or can it be bypassed? When in neutral the start button wouldn't work I pull the clutch lever, button works. Tested diode D2 not working properly shows infin. on both poles D1 ok resister read 8.3 omhs. When I jump the D2 poles the start button works fine. Mike
  11. http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50620 BeemerBob was out on a ride by himself and hit a washout. Went down hard and probably cracked a couple ribs. Thanks to his SPOT, they were able to find him and bring him to safety. His cellphone had no service. He hit the "help" button and people responded. Even if you were to crash and couldn't hit the "help" button, you can still be tracked through the GPS signal and google maps.
  12. Over the last week, the RSV would not start when I hit the start button. At first I thought maybe I did nto have the stand all the way up, although I was in Neutral anyhow. Checked it then hit the button again and it started. It has doe this 3 or 4 times in the last week. Today, I discovered that when I push the button with a slight upward pressure, no start. Slight downward pressure, start. I am assuming that the contact on the start button is wearing out. Common? Bike still has 1 1/2 yr warranty, but I don't want to be stuck somewhere with the bike not starting.

2006 RSTD 23K miles OK gentlemen and ladies, I just went out to take a ride with my wife. Rolled the bike out of the garage, packed the bike, got helmets and stuff then tried to start the bike. When I turned the key I had lights etc. I hit the starter, did not fire the first time. Pulled the choke a little and went to hit the button again. I must have not pushed hard enough because it sounded like I hit the button two times real close together. It was then that the lights went out. I have checked all fuses including mains, all wiring that I can see with seat off and cowling/covers off. I have nothing. Battery appears still good as it will still light my accent lights that are not run through the switch. Any ideas, hints or suggestions? Thanks in advance everyone.
  14. About %30 of the time when i press my rear shock button. It reads zero, when i press the "M" button to fill it up to about 50, it goes up to 50 really fast on the computer, but not in the shock itself. It does it alot more frequently in the cold. What does this? also after pressing the M and it "fills" when i press the rear button again it says 15 and does it over.... i have an 85 venture royale... anyone know what to do?
  15. My thanks button isn't working When I click on it, it just disappears, but nothing else happens Who stole my "thanks" button?
  16. Rode to Jacksonville yesterday. First time using intercom since getting new fairing under warranty and I also have the mic mute. Everytime I hit a bump in the road the intercom would activate. I would have to hit the ptt button to disengage the intercom. Also with the mic mute you hit the ptt button once and the intercom in engaged until you hit the ptt button again to disengage it but now you have to hold the ptt button continously until you are finished talking and then release the ptt button to disengage. What's up with dat? While the dealer had the bike installing the new fairing I asked him to put dielectric grease on all the connections while they had the fairing off. Is is possible they reconnected the mic mute in the wrong connector and caused this are is something else going on? Thanks for your suggestions. Also, thanks Ruffy for the m & e in Jacksonville. Food was excellent.
  17. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY... Women are like phones: They like to be held, talked to, and touched often. But push the wrong button and your ass is disconnected. :rotfl:
  18. Ok, I have a problem. I go out today to go for a ride. Turn the ignition on, press the starter button, and nothing happens. The starter won't even click. When I rode last week, it was fine. I ended up working 70 hours this week and today was the first time i've been able to take it out. So, can someone tell me how to determine what the problem is. If it's the starter button itself or something between there and the starter. I thought the battery so I charged it up and still nothing. Thanks guys for the help.
  19. I am not sure if it is a bug, I missed something or I imagined it. I would swear there was a multi quote button in the threads. I switched to the venturerider theme and did not see it when on that theme either.
  20. I am contemplating changing to different electrical horns and relocating them. In preparation I am checking the wiring for polarity, on/off with the ignition, etc. I am accessing the right side horn. You know, the one that they have aimed right at the exhaust! I expected to find the pink wire hot with the key on, but I find both the pink and brown wires to be hot when the key is on. I have looked at the wiring diagram, guess I just do not understand how the horn button makes these OEM horns work. I expected to be able to ground the after-market horns and connect a lead to the other connector that would become hot when the horn button was activated. OR I would hook up a lead that was hot when the key is on and the other connector would go to the horn button and be grounded when the button is activated. With both leads testing hot with the key on I am lost. I know one or more of you wizards can explain this to me and point me in the right direction. For clarification, I want to install a pair of compact boat horns out front (106 db each). I know most of you prefer the air horn, but this is my story and I'm sticking to it. Thanks for any help I can get. Mel
  21. Hey guys, ole Blondie has developed a hick up in her cruise control. I hit the button and the indicators come on normally, I push the set button and nothing happens. I can be riding along and try it several times and nothing then all of the suddent it works again. It might work all day or it might suddenly drop back out. When it drops out the indicator says its on stand by. Any ideas?? Thanks
  22. The LED tail light should have been a quick install, but somewhere in my bikes past someone over tightened the screws for the lens and pulled two of the bosses out of the lens and the third one was cracked. Nothing really holding the lens on except the sticky gasket. So, get out the trusty epoxy and glue the bosses back in. After that dried, install the Radianz board. Job one finished. Now for the Stebel horn. Installed the relay on one of the bolts under the coolant recovery bottle. Removed the old right side horn and connected the old horn wires to the relay. Press the horn button to check the relay and it clicked as advertised. The factory horn behind the left fairing "clunked" meekly. Hum??? Light in my head came on, wonder if the horn I took off the right side of the bike will fit in behind the fairing? WRONG, they are completely different, but when I hooked up the "fairing horn" directly to the battery, it sounded off perfectly! Soooo, why not put it back in place and power it from the new Stebel relay????? Now all I need to do is fish a 14Ga wire under the tank. Done! Put a short 14Ga ground wire to one of the horn mounting bolts, pushed the horn button, relay clicks and the puny little horn is not so puny anymore! Now make up a "Y" connector and hook it up the the relay. Mount the Stebel air horn using the shiny Carbon_one bracket, hook it all up, push the horn button and DEY-YUM it is LOUD!!! The combination of the two horns will come close to waking the dead!!!
  23. Hey all, just trying to get a lot of supporters for this. I think that in the forums, if you see a post you like, but dont want to quote it to show you agree with it, they should have maybe a Like button, or a Thumbs Up or Down to show that you agree with them. Just a thought, if any of you have any suggestions or want think this is a good idea, please post in the forum, if we make enough posts, maybe freebird will have to see it! Okay, well thank you for your support.
  24. So I replaced the dual horns(don't know if they're stock) with a hi and lo fiamm. I turn the key and the and the horns start blaring. I check the wires with a meter. One is hot all the time regardless of wether I hit the button. The other has nothing. When I take a reading between the two it read 3.4-4volts and then 12 when I hit the button. What's the deal? The horns are loud as hell. Totally confused. Thanks in advance!
  25. My turn signals seem to have developed a problem, or have had it and I just didn't realize it. They flash fine and all, but only when I hold the switch over. When I release it, they don't stay on, they cancel. It should stay flashing until the button is pushed in instead of to the side, correct? Any ideas on where to start searching?
