  1. Anybody use these on their 1st gens? How do/did you like them? Pros? cons? I'm gonna be needing some new pads soon and was just thinking about all the different kinds that are available and thought maybe these would be a nice upgrade from the OEM/organics or even maybe the semi metallic pads. Sooner or later I plan on doing the SS brake line upgrade, but until then I figured better pads would do. I really have no problem with the brake system as it is now, but any improvement would be a good thing. Bill
  2. Ok I have a set of brake pads that have slots on one side which side goes on which or does it matter?
  3. Anyone have a work-around for a broken torsion spring - it returns the brake pedal to position (if it isn't broken like mine!)? The spring is no longer available from Yamaha and I am growing weary of having to lift the pedal with my toe to stop the rear brake from activating. Any ideas?
  4. I'm pretty good about riding with a helmet, mostly because I like tunes as I ride. Tonight I'm away from home assisting tomorrow in the MS150 ride for Multiple Sclerosis, I went to top off the tank and could hear some minor rubbing on the rear brake rotor (only in one spot, not all the tme) Do you think opening the reservoir or the brake line bleeder valve solve the issue? Dave
  5. Ride a 2007 RSTD. I want to lower the height of the stock brake pedal. This means I want the existing brake pedal rubber to be about 2 inches lower than stock. Any suggestions on how to do this? Thanks, please email me your response at fubar dot kiss at gmail dot com.
  6. Where is the best place to find a LED rear brake light replacement for an 2002 Yamaha Silverado?
  7. I know this is a repeat of some other fairly recent threads, but I noticed that Pioneer Motorsports has EBC HH pads for sale in the classified for a very reasonable price, so I thought I would mention this again. I am sorry that we did not make a point of organizing the inspection of the rear pads on all the 2nd gens at Don's recent maintenance day - it only takes about 1 minute to open the saddlebag lid and reach behind it to pop off that plastic cover and inspect the pads with a little flashlight - No need for any tools! I want to stress the need to do this - the last time I had 5 RSVs/RSTDs together before Don's maintenance day, none of the owners had even given a thought to their brake pads with less than 20,000 miles on their bike, but THREE of the five bikes were already metal-to-metal on the inside pad! Please do yourself a favor and make this quick little inspection - new pads are sooo easy to change, and new rotors are sooo expensive. Goose
  8. I was informed today that the VR engages the front brake when you hit the brake foot pedal. I had no idea this was so. The mechanic said the full bike brake rebuild is quite a hassle and will take him 8 hours. Does this sound reasonable to you guys or should I just dive in and do it myself? Thanks
  9. Some engine oil got spattered onto the rear brake disc while riding. The rear brake is, as you can imagine, not grabbing it should be due to contact with oil.. Do Double H Sintered brake pads soak up oil and rendered useless or will it burn off after cleaning off the disc? Trying to sort out if replacing the rear pads is specifically required because they came in contact with oil or can they be cleaned off with brake cleaner fluid? Cheers
  10. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh221/muaymendez/IMAG0235.jpg Will the angle of the bars cause problems with the feed of fluid for the brake and the clutch?? http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh221/muaymendez/IMAG0236.jpg
  11. I did the search and looked on the venture classifieds . I cant find anything on longer brake and clutch hoses. I think i remember someone on here selling steel lines. Wonder if they can be made longer? I want to rasie my bars . And the risers I like are 6 inch. I hope it will fit without the extended hoses but I like to be prepared.
  12. Went for a short ride tonight and went around the first corner and pressed on the brake pedal and uhh oh.....no brake at all.... Rode it three days ago and all was okay... No visible brake line leakage and no fluid anywhere....just no pressure at all... I"ll ride it tomorrow to work with just the front right and then check it out tomorrow. I"ll first check the rear fluid level and see if that is good..If that is good, will vacuum bleed.. Wondering if rear master cylinder would have suddenly gone.. This is an unexpected and never encountered problem.. Thoughts? ideas? comments? Thanks Clay
  13. can anyone tell me the name of the brake line conection value near the steering head. and where i may be able to fine one. it has a small rubber boot on it the size of a nickel. mine has a small leak. it only leaks if i push it w/my thumb any help would be greatly appreciated thak you. 89 vr.
  14. I was given some nice LED lights. One of the features is the ability to have them come on with a signal wire, even if off. I set them to the mode I want (e.g., flashing yellow), then turn them off. When I pull the brake lever, they come on flashing yellow, then turn off again when I release the brake. Or they should. They do come on with the brakes, but they also come on with the turn signals. The lights come with a red for power, off for ground. They also come with a blue for aux signal and yellow for ground. I have red to battery, black to ground. Blue to the yellow brake wire, yellow to ground. Should I attach the yellow to the brake ground? Is that brown, if I remember right? I don't mind the LEDs coming on with the turn signal for now, but it isn't what I intended. Dave
  15. OK Here's the problem. Did the Hoppy 5 to 4 conversion thing (LED Friendly), lights on trailer are incandescent. Everything is good to the plug. Hook up the trailer and only have running lights for about 20 seconds then fuse blows. Cannot get signals or brake lights, signal too weak. Tested on the cager everything works fine. My question is will a powered isolator boost signal to turn and brake lights or should I just switch to LED's:depressed:
  16. Does anyone have a supplier and part information for purchasing the just the rubber seals/washers on the piston in a 83 rear master brake cylinder, rather than buying a complete rebuild kit? Parts should be only a dollar or two. Does anyone have feedback on my cheapskate idea?
  17. I just replaced my left front and rear brake pads with EBC HH. Last year I put the HH in the right front. It did not need new pads, the old ones were only worn to about 50%. I can not believe the difference in stopping power that the rear brake now has. I can literally stop in half the distance that it took with the old pads. I was very concerned about stopping power with a trailer in tow. My concern was justified, I will feel much better with the trailer now.
  18. Just got my ironbraid.com leather covered chrome plated levers installed today. They turned out great! I have the two toned 2009 Venture and so I had the leather braids done in cream and black...turned out really well. I also cleaned and lubed the clutch and brake while I had them off. Here are a couple of pictures, sorry about the quality, I used my iPhone (didn't want to break out the camera). By the way...what does the adjustment screw on the brake adjust? the brake light?
  19. Anyone have any experiences with ebay item 280650803116. $1.20 for a set of 2 and shipping $2.00. 2 24 LED 1157 Car Tail Brake Rear White Light Bulb Lamp 2 24 LED 1157 Car Tail Brake Rear White Light Bulb Lamp 2 24 LED 1157 Car Tail Brake Rear White Light Bulb Lamp
  20. Can someone tell me why yamaha made clutch and brake levers to fit a gorilla hand? The reach on these levers is rediculously far with no adjustment! And my hands are not small, I'm 6'-0", 190#. Does anyone else agree? Does anyone have a solution?
  21. Hi, After caliper and brake rebuild, I am trying in vain to bleed the brakes on my 84. After 3 hours of using a vacuum pump yielding little success with quite a bit of air is out, the rear is still very spongy and cannot seem to get anymore air out..I have read a lot about the lack of a bleeder on the early models and am wondering if it is possible to get to the connection without taking plastic off???? I've bled the brakes before, but never a complete re-do from zero...Even having a terrible time with the front right brake... ughhhh.this is very frustrating..I want to ride. What is the correct order in bleeding considering the anti dives...??? Is it left anti-dive ,then left front caliper. then rear ....over and over again???? I;ve read a lot on this here, but still am struggling this time Thanks Clay
  22. Good evening. I replaced my brake pads, flushed the brake system, flushed and filled the rear diff, and went to flush my clutch and cant find the bleeder. Can anyone point me in the general location? I have a 2005 royal star AKA "the beast" New tires going on this week!!! Whoo whoo I cant wait for the weather to break in Michigan!!!
  23. just pull my trailer out of storage "not heated" and now the 3bulb led lights I added last year are extremely dim. i added these little lights to just the brake light so they act like an extra brake light. worked great all last year and now nutt'n. I checked the connections to the original led brake light wire and it looks good. these were $8.00 truck stop specials so my ?? is can they just go capute. its odd they both took a dump but the origianal brake lights work just fine. any ideas???
  24. I have a broken rear brake master cylinder reservoir, anyone know where to get a replacement?
