  1. I just bought a chrome brake cover with "Venture" Etched on it and now need the matching cover that say's "Royal Star" . If anyone has one laying around in a box gathering dust I'd be happy to buy it from you. Plan B is to buy just a plain chrome cover.
  2. Does anyone here have a rear brake reservoir for an "83 VR. Mine broke a while back when I tried to loosen the bolt to add fluid. I repaired it using JB Weld and it held for a while but today it broke again. I either need another reservoir or if someone can tell me something that I can repair it with.
  3. http://news.consumerreports.org/cars/2012/04/brake-failure-spurs-recall-of-3000-can-am-spyder-bikes.html Consumer Reports Apr 16, 2012 11:30 AM Bombardier Recreational Products has recalled certain 2010 Can-Am Spyder models due to the potential for a complete brake failure. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 3,259 Can-Am Spyder RT roadsters from model year 2010 are recalled because a pin securing the brake pedal connecting rod could come loose and fall off without warning. BRP will notify owners this week and dealers will replace the brake pedal connecting rod free of charge. Owners may contact BRP at 1-888-638-5397 When we sampled the Can-Am Spyder, we found it bulky and reluctant to corner. Several of our riders felt they much prefer bikes with two wheels. However, the Can-Am Spyder does have antilock brakes, which is an important safety feature. See which other motorcycles and scooters have this life-saving technology.
  4. My mother in-law passed away in March and my wife went to Michigan to take care of things. The first week of May I went to bring her and everything from the estate home. Before I left for Michigan I went for a nice long ride and when I parked the bike I noticed a drip of brake fluid on the right upper fairing. As far as I could tell it was coming from the back side of the plunger. No big deal right? I would look into it when I got home. Bad idea. I arrived home three days later and found the master cylinder had emptied out. I cleaned it the best I could, but it was too late. Over the next hundred miles or so pieces would just fall off as I rode down the road. My bike was previously laid down on the right side so the spidercracked fairing didn't help. I guess this is one of those lessons I learned the hard way. At least the left side still looks good.
  5. Many thanks and a tip of the helmet to Bob for donating a rear master brake cylinder for my 83 Venture, what I wasn't expecting was something that looked like it came straight from the factory, if Bob hadnt told me it was rebuilt, I would have thought it was brand spanking new, I now have brakes, not the greatest, but have rear brakes again, next step will be the stainless steel brake lines front and back, that will be a great improvement, its not 100% yet but its getting there. Still waiting on the carb diaphragms from Sirius, they should be here sometime next week. Once again the members here are fantastic, couldnt ask for a nicer bunch of people, always willing to help out another. Thanks again Bob, since you wont let me pay you for it, I will be making a donation to the St. Jude fund.
  6. Got the bike running like it should, I couldnt believe how quick it settled down to a nice idle. But now I need a rear master brake cylinder, this one is leaking and I cant get it to pump enough pressure to get any pedal to the rear brake at all. So, if anyone has one laying around for a 83 1st. gen.......shoot me a price...........I looked on fleabay, but they want way too much, and I cant wait for an auction to end. I wanna get the beast back together and ride, I forgot what it like to ride a big old bike like the Venture..........
  7. I need a rear brake rotor for my 86. Any suggestions on what to get. Thanks.
  8. I removed the old Harley lights off the back of the bike this afternoon. I installed them last year, and since putting them on, I have had to replace two battery's. Okay this is the question Strip lights are LEDs ( Diamond R's) the Harley lights are 1157 bulbs, I ran them together to the brake lights wiring at the license plate housing. Was that the wrong way to wire them? Did I need a Converter for the LED's?
  9. the front right brake line that links to the fork (see Photo). Does anyone know where to get one? It's for a Venture Royale 1983... Thank you for the help.
  10. can anyone tell me if the front brake master cyl. part# 4xy-w2587-10-00 for 09 venture will work on a 97 RSTD witch calls for part #4nk-w2587-02-00 both master cyl do take the same rebuild kit any help would be greatly apricative i curently cant get my brake or clutch to bleed and am about to go insane not being able to ride
  11. 2001 RSV with 90,000 miles, cruise will work some times, other times it wont, have been having this problem for about 7 months now. Some times it will set and work great, other times you have to turn it off and on several times before it will work, and then when you cancel or touch brake it wont reset and you have to turn switch off and on several times to get it to set. Getting to be a pain. Any ideas?
  12. Since I have found the button to make a "new thread" I will copy what was said before I ask my next question.... chrislemon I had no back brakes and so I replaced all the cylinders in my rear caliper in the fall. Now that it is spring I see I still don't have rear brakes. Upon further investigation it looks like I am getting lots of air when bleeding the back brakes but still no pressure on the back brakes and yet the front is doing great and the fluid reservoir burbs when I apply the front brakes. When I cracked the line going into my rear calipers and apply the back brake I did not get a surge of fluid coming out. What should I check now? PS I can't seem to find where the metering valve is located either (how to get to it) bongobobny Now, chances are you probably have a plugged up proportioning valve which is attached to the rear of the rear master cylinder. The metering valve, on the other hand is attached to the frame towards the front by the battery along with another bleeder as there is a high point in the lines and air can get trapped there. Due to the fact you are saying the front brake works fine there should be nothing wrong with that as the metering valve only works with the front brakes... chrislemon Now my question is "where is the rear master cylinder"? I would think its the brake reservoir on the handlebars but I don't have anything attached to it. If it is in another location than that tells me I am also bleeding my rear brakes and filling the front brake reservoir. Sometimes its just better to leave things to a mechanic(go ahead and have a good laugh at my expense). PS When I do find this proportioning valve, do I just blow it out to unplug it? Thanks Newbie
  13. I read.through a good bit, let me tell you what is going on. 84 VR Brake pedal bottoms out no pressure, had it earlier on first ride. Fronts, po had not tightened the caliper hoses completely and I know I'm going to have to change contaminated pads and bleed. All this in the first 40 miles....... Any tips ect on the bleeding and the rear and front left are what I am most concerned about. Thanks, first post Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
  14. I installed Speed Bleeders ™ on the clutch and on all brake bleeding points yesterday (perhaps I shouldn't have chosen Friday the Thirteenth) and flushed all clutch and brake fluids with new fresh DOT4. Everything was going swell until I replaced the last bleed valve on the rear caliper and could not get any fluid to come out of the bleeder when I attempted to bleed the rear brake line. I replaced the Speed Bleeder with the OEM and attempted to bleed as normal and again no fluid would emit. I removed the bleeder and depressed the brake foot pedal, but still no fluid at rear caliper. I can see that there is fluid in the open port where the bleeder fits, but none comes out when I depress the pedal. I have a very firm pedal and the left front brake works. I tried rebleeding the entire system and did not encounter any air at the front or at the metering bleeder near the steering head. I removed the plastic elbow with the reservoir fill hose attached to it and drained the reservoir. I examined the two ports inside the master cylinder that are visible when the elbow is removed and noted that the orifices were open as I depressed the pedal. I reinstalled the elbow, refilled the reservoir with fresh fluid and rebled the front left, the steering head metering bleed valve and attempted to bleed the rear once again without success. Same results, no fluid and no pressure at the pistons. Applying the pedal does not apply the brakes on the rear wheel but the front left brake works fine. It seems to me that the proportioning valve mounted on the master cylinder is stuck, perhaps, but I don't know enough about the internal plumbing of the master cylinder/proportioning valve to know if this is likely. It is not an easy task to remove the master cylinder and or the proportioning valve, so I am asking for guidance towards some other cause for me to have no pressure at the rear caliper. The last time I rode the bike a couple weeks ago, the brakes seemed to work fine, even two up. I only encountered a problem after I installed the Speed Bleeders™. (Thanks to your suggestion, Condor!)
  15. My '83 Royale with cruise fried the plunger on the brake light switch. I mistakenly ordered the two wire switch, when,of course, I NEED the four wire switch. Given that the four wire switch is several times the cost of the two wire switch, is there some way to use the two wires for the brake light, and do something else with the other two wires to fool the cruise into working? Possibly tying them together to complete the circuit, or applying 12V to one or the other? Any help greatly appreciated!
  16. After bleeding the foot pedal brake (91VR) both front and rear, now the rear brake seems to slightly drag. Put it on the center stand lifted up on the foot break pedal both the front and rear tire seems to spin freely. After pressing on the foot brake pedal, then letting it free the foot pedal does not come up like it used to. The front tire spins freely, but the rear tire was slightly harder to spin and the rear brake light stayed on. So I continued riding with my right foot under the brake foot. That seemed to be enough to release the rear brake. Any suggestions.
  17. i just had the rear caliper rebuilt by earl. bled the front and rear calipers with speed bleeders. the pedal wont come back up all the way. it keeps the brake light engaged. i checked the brake switch spring and its it good condition. it just seems to have resistance to return all the way. any ideas? proportioning valve bad? time for new lines and de-link? and im in northern michigan now. just got Hughesnet installed yesterday. water lines were busted and critters got into cabin, thats why i havnt been around last couple weeks.
  18. Really good info on the brake systems. Hoping some one can save me some time on where to start. One clue is I had some brakes not as much as I would like. When I store my bike for the winter I would lose my rear brake and linked front brake. I realize some seals must be leaking right? Does my rear master need to be rebuilt and can I get a kit.I did remove the plunger assy and took out the proportioning valve trying to understand how it works. I read a thread and now understand.I do very similar work with oil pressure ,valves ,seals ect.The seals in the valve seem to be worn can I get those seals. I love this bike and would love to stop well and still keep the bike stock if possible.
  19. hello all on my 1999 rsv the rear brake caliper has frozen and i can not get the plungers to move anyone that has one from a trike conversion have one thay would let go cheap i have been out of work for 6 months and dont have a lot of money. just started new job this week and bike only transportion i have. thanks for any help bumble bee kevin wisor lexington sc
  20. Going to order some of these. http://www.tcbbrakesystems.com/ Had someone pull in front of me on hyway going 70 and squealed the front tire grabing the brake. Anyone else try these before?
  21. went to plug in my led taight light. took out the old bulb, plugged in new board. turned the key and, no headlight , no brake light. no taillight,, I have flashers, turn signals, what the hell happened.
  22. Well I ordered the SS brake lines and Flanders bars from http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ and installed all today. Thanks to all the help here and especially my brother Chris. We worked on this all day, from about 7 AM until 10 PM tonight. We did take a few brakes and ate three good meals today that my wonderful wife cooked up. We did all the front and rear brake lines, clutch line, and throttle upgrade. Everything has new Dot 4 fluid and no air. I removed the tank, so I decided that before we put the tank back on, it would be good to go ahead and install the new plugs (NGK DPRea8-9). So we did after removing the dog bones. The plugs gap at 30-35. I put them on 32. The plugs torque at 13 lb each also. So for those inclined to do the SS line upgrade. Would I recommend this as a do it yourself job ? Yes, for those somewhat mechanically inclined. You should plan on a good all day to do it all. I still have to button up a few things, and put all the tools back up. The SS lines will adjust somewhat at the connections and there is a tool included to do this. I would recommend you use plastic garbage bags to cover everything up so the brake fluid does not harm your paint. Fuzzy
  23. Anyone have a rear master brake cylinder? I bled the brakes on my first gen. Foot brake works great for a few days, then pedal will push all the way down - no resistance, no brakes. I pulled the master cyl apart and it is pitted. Anyone have any suggestions? Looks like it is obsolete. Didn't see one on ebay either. Thanks, Pete
  24. I am installing an LED brake light I have laying around from another project. It fits the Midnight like it was made for it! got lucky there. Where is an easy place to splice into the brake light circuit without a lot of trauma to the wiring harness? I started taking the seats off, looking for whatever I might find, then remembered about this forum. I did some searching, but mostly the results were about lights that also had turn signals. I just need the brake light wire. Thanks, Bert
  25. Recently I replaced both front rotors with EBC drilled ones, along with new brake pads. I noticed when I tighten the axle nut to the specified 72 ft/lbs. of torque, the wheel does not spin freely. I follow the order of tightening the different areas that the manual recommends. When I put the nut on hand tight, it does spin somewhat freely, but still binds, just less than when I tighten it down. I do have an upgraded fork brace installed. Braking all around is much improved over the stock rotors, however I am just concerned that the binding btwn the rotors and pads will do some damage. Anyone have experience with this issue??
