  1. While at work earlier this morning I went on the "Pics from Asheville" site and opened the photobucket URL. I immediately got a Trojan virus warning and a box about some spyware that I could not turn off. I rebooted and it did not help. I then did the free scan thing and was told I would have to purchase the anti-spyware program. When I finally got that box off and rebooted, I could not get on the internet or our company intranet. I had to call the IT department and have them go thru it. I did try our Malware program and it did not help. but with their updated program, IT was able to fix it. I have no idea what happened as it is obvious others were able to open the site. RandyA
  2. When southern Florida resident Nathan Radlich's house was burgled recently, thieves ignored his wide screen plasma TV, his VCR, and even left his Rolex watch. What they did take, however, was a generic white cardboard box filled with a grayish-white powder. (That's the way the police report described it.) A spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale police said that it looked similar to high grade cocaine and they'd probably thought they'd hit the big time. Later, Nathan stood in front of numerous TV cameras and pleaded with the burglars: Please return the cremated remains of my sister, Gertrude. She died three years ago. The next morning, the bullet-riddled corpse of a local drug dealer known as Hoochie Pevens was found on Nathan's doorstep. The cardboard box was there too; about half of Gertrude's ashes remained. Scotch taped to the box was this note which said: Hoochie sold us the bogus blow, so we wasted Hoochie. Sorry we snorted your sister, no hard feelings, have a nice day.
  3. I have an 83 Venture that will not start using the starter. The engine turns over then backfires. the fuel pump does come on. I can bump start and it runs great once started. I have checked the battery, it has a good 12 volts. I have replaced the battery cables with 4 gage wires. I also have replace the old fuse box with a new blade type box. I get an initial spark to all the plugs but after a revolution or two no spark except for the left rear it always seems to have a good spark. I have pulled the spark plug wires clipped have inch off each end and re-attached with no change. I have read something about the ignition switch causing the back two cylinders to not fire. What do I need to look for with that? I have the faring off to be able to get to the coils and the TCI. I will be testing the coils resistance today. I have service manual. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
  4. I have had my Computerized Monitoring fuse blow twice in the last couple of days.it knocks out everything fuel gauge, clock, tach. it has the old fuse box but it looks like new. back is not worn. fuses fit nice and snug. the box list that as a 15 amp fuse. any thoughts from anyone at what to look at ??? Thanks Mike
  5. I ordered a wire harness for my 86, the ad on ebay was for xvz12/13 so i assumed the harness would be interchangable, its not! the guy i bought from has been INCREDIBLY helpful and will refund my $ + shipping, but he says his parts fiche shows the same for mkI and II.are they the same? a few harness connectors like the coils, pick up coils, tail light, match up but alot of stuff does not. he says he has a few harnesses and they all look the same but as soon as i took it out of the box i knew some things were wrong. any thoughts? and does anyone have a harness they want to sell. im looking for one in good condition and that will just plug and play, royale or standard is fine.
  6. I bought a small 12volt compressor to carry on my '83 Venture on Ebay for $30 + $10 shipping without checking out pricing elsewhere first. A couple of days ago I saw the same compressor at Pep Boys for $12 + local sales tax (6+%). Boy, was that DUMB! Even though it was my own fault, I emailed the guy - didn't blame him, just said I was frustrated that I was dumb to overpay so much. He emailed me back & said he was sorry, he didn't know what they sell for & that he ended up with a box of them from the flea market - I don't think he's American based on his illiterate email. I emailed him back asking that he refund me $15 - I don't expect a positive response/any money back. Man, I'm gonna hafta do more homework! Doug
  7. Thaks in advance for any info. you can give me on this problem.. MY 86 Venture developed a bad TCI box last year.. Bought one on Ebay and it worked fine until just the other day. I lost spark to the front cylinder and hooked my old TCI up and had spark - so I knew it was the box. Then had a family member who is an elect. tech replace diodes and resolder everything, etc. I put that reapired box on the bike and had spark all the way around and it ran fine - FOR ONE DAY! Again - i lost spark to that front cyl. He again repaired it and I now have spark to all four cylinders but have developed a "bogging down" when applying more than a couple thousand rpm's of throttle. It sits and idles fine but when applying throttle, it backfires a little and boggs down. Is it just a bad TCI or did I mess up and unhook something under the airbox that is causing this or ??? Again - thanks if anyone can help.. jkit02@yahoo.com
  8. Looking for a set of 2nd gen air cleaner/box covers that you may have laying around for a possible project. Dont need the whole air box, just the outside covers. Thanks
  9. he just wanted me to say he is staring to box them cassette tapes up. after all the clean up of his aunts apartment the total of tapes went over 400? therefore he said thoes that requested some will now be getting 20 or more per box. he just dont have the room for them. plus with the cd split every one got 175 cd,s his 3 sisters and him. so he,s keeping the cd,s and about 75 tapes so last call for tapes all country. old and fairly new. they got to go. we tested over 100 of them all play great some still wrapped in plastic never played. and with his small apartment and his health he can do so much cleaning so like he said they have to go.
  10. - I'm making saw dust and I've got a vent fan in the window, a 21" box fan on the floor and it's still hotter than a fffiaf -
  11. Was doing some odds and end things this past weekend and took my air filter box off--After I got it out of the small compartment it is lodged in I noticed someone had taken a 1/4 in. drill bit and drilled about 8 small holes on the sides of the box (all 4 sides)---Do you think this would improve performance or just some "Shade tree Mechanic" trying to increase the air into the carbs?...........................................Thanx......................Larry
  12. Hi every one have not being on this site for a while got my self a classic CZ 1948 Perak (feather) Model 11 and trying to find info and parts for it.I am at 90,000 km full services vale shims, carb sink, greasing, plus more but when I pull the air induction box off and found oil in the left side and oil water muck in the left and right sides were could this oil and water be coming from.
  13. Is an '83 TCI box the only box you can use on an '83 VR? Without going to an after-market.
  14. Hello I am back, on my 88vr I am still having idleing problem when you first start it and when it reaches operating temp. It will idle for a second and then the tack will drop to 0 the engine will still idle but it very low and it will start backfireing thru the tail pipe. when you throttle up it will pop a little and then smooth out when you let go of the throttle it will drop back to 1000 rpm for a second and then drop to 0 and start backfiring. Squeese told me to check for vac. leak around base of carb. I checked this with brake cleaner srayed around each one but it seemed ok no rev. The hoses from the top of the carbs into the air box two of them are a little loose where they go into the box should I seal them will they cause any problem? running down the highway it runs fine. I checked the diaphrams in all 4 carbs no holes they looked new. I have only had the bike for 3 weeks when I first got it, it idled fine iI ran sea foam thru it when I first got it. when I pulled the cover to check the diph. it looked like ther was some oil on the diphrams. I think theres to much oil in it on the sight glass it is all the way to the top is it suppose to be that full? Its been about20 years since i have had A bike I have to learn how to work on them agine. can anyone tell me where I can order a service Manual for this bike. I will be asking a lot of question on here I hope you all dont get tired of me. thanks alot motorhead 704
  15. I got a little free time so far in the morning. Anybody know a easy way to line that air box up when you get the horns that sit on the carbs out of whack?? I've aleays had a hard time with those things anyway. Maybe take all 4 boots or horns whatever you call them out of the box put them on carbs and then mount box to them? I just don't want to waste all the free time I have in the morning fighting it. Could get some more of it togather. I have someone to watch Warden in the morning. Not going to chance leaving her by herself without a watch dog!! I will only be outside but I know her. Those Air Boxes always give me fits. Got to be a easy way. I'll be on it as soon as it gets light enough to see down in there.
  16. Is there such a thing, that puts lights for the brakes/marker in the top box (travel box) ala Goldwing? Also is there a current seat-nut link, I found one in threads that was dead. Thanks
  17. Anybody interested in 2 Chatter box communication systems? Model HJC-80 Selling them for a friend he doesn't know what there worth. He is looking to get $50.00 for the pair or B.O. Whats a fair price?? Bubber
  18. Screws that hold TCI in place. I used #2 Phillips this morning and it slipped on first try and I quit right there. Don't remember having any trouble with them before. Do the take a special Hong Kong bit?? Tip on valve covers. Do them when you have reason to remove Air box and battery box. Another question. How many put heat sheilds back?? I left them out most times I got in there.
  19. While test riding my 86 VR just after getting the new motor completely installed and all the bugs worked out, I was riding it without any of the plastic body parts, except the bags and the upper fairing, and the fuze box cover went a different direction than the rest of the bike. Didn't notice it was gone until I arrived back to my place. Just checked out Fleabay and nada. I don't believe one can buy this part separately from anyone. Soooo, does anyone on here have a fuze box cover they won't mind parting with. Just let me know and how much you will need for the item.
  20. I am installing a pair of Powerlets to my bike. The Powerlet comes with a very nice connector to go to the battery, along with an inline fuse. However, I have an auxiliary fuse box under my seat. To hook up the Powerlet, I'd have to cut off the nice professional ends, then add connectors to let it attach to the fuse box. I think I would also cut away the bulky inline fuse. What would you do? Go to the battery or go to the fuse box? Keep the inline fuse, or dump it? 21. Was checking out a box full of "stuff" I've had sittin around for who knows how long and finally sorted through it for a bit. To my surprise I found a complete coil/ignitor (cdi) assembly. Short of installing the cdi box, how would one bench check this thing to find out if it is good? In this very large box is all kinds of other stuff, including a complete motor off an 86 VR. If anyone needs something let me know and I'll see if what you might be looking for is in this box of goodies.
  22. Purchased 99 Venture and found prior owner covered up anchors that attach the box to the frame. Several of the screws have pulled through the plastic bottom and it has several cracks and small holes where the plastic has broken. Joe has put me in touch with an offer on e-bay that has a bokttom for sale in the correct color (plum and silver) but they are asking $400.00 for it. Anyone who has a box for 2nd gen for sale?
  23. I went and ordered the hitch for the scoot. I already did the thread on whether or not to use brakes on the trailer. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47141 Now I just need to design and build the trailer. I need to a lot of pricing out parts to see if it is more cost effective to build a trailer from scratch, or to start with something like a Harbor Freight trailer and modify from there. The box needs to be a minimum of 96 x 40 x 20. At this point in time I am thinking of making the box out of marine grade plywood with a one piece hinged lid. Maybe a sloped and/or V nose to help wind resistance. I am still concerned about side wind load in a strong cross wind. That is a big trailer for a bike but what I need to carry is not heavy, just big and fragile. I am open to ideas for the construction of this beast.
  24. I want to add an Accessory fuse block. I have searched the subject but can't find much info. I'm looking for what type of fuse box and relay I'll need and how to wire the relay. Thanks
  25. This Caveman has Skydoc_17's fuse box upgrade and needs help. I must be pre-caveman cause I missed something in the instructions or just not getting it. I think I have more going on at the top of the fusebox (see attached image) than in the instructions. I might have a noise suppressor and the battery mod plugged into one of the screws at the top. This is where I am stuck and do not know what to do.
