  1. Just posted my 2007 Royal Star Venture: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1180 I have my 2005 QuickSilver back on the road, so no longer need the second RSV! This is a fantastic bike in EXCELLENT condition, but I just like my original 2005 a little better. I picked it up with 3,000 miles on it, them put another 10,000 hitting Daytona and the Florida Keys this year. Added a lot of extras. This bike is a sweet running machine with no significant whine, and I'd love to place it with someone who will love it and use it! Goose
  2. The man who is going to paint MamaMo's 99 took one look at it this evening and said Blue & White. I slipped him a twenty ahhhhhh I mean thanked him for his opinion and left on the scoot. He and MamaMo were standing outside arguing about PINK when I left. Stay tuned for Harley riders knows best or MamaMo gets her way??? I think Blue and White is fine fine fine. Even if it is a REDNECK color.
  3. I recently posted a comment regarding my first ride of the 2008 season and how happy I am with my V-Max rear end exchange. Anyway...some interest developed and I have decided to post some of my comments over here for others to see and add to. I know others here have also done this exchange, including Don (Freebird) and with this being the start of the riding season for most I thought others might like to hear about this exchange. Well this is a most unusual year for me. Usually my first ride of the season here in Western New York the temperatures are in the high 30's to mid 40's. Today the temps seemed to be in the mid-60's to low 70's and this is the first year I waited so long to get in my first ride of the year. Put on about 115 miles and the bike purred like a kitten. She was put away with stabil and the octane seemed just fine. I filled up and found that I got around 36 mpg (riding her hard). I did the VMax swap out so I was pleased with the mileage because I hoped on the Thruway and rode around 70-75mph. I took it up to 100 mph a couple of times to make sure the plugs stayed clean and the gas burned fast. The VMax swap out is the absolute best performance improvement you can do for the Venture with a modest investment! The V-Max swap out is taking the rear end gears from the V-Max and putting them into the Venture. There is a vendor who is listed here "Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax" from the Eastern Pennsylvania area who specializes in doing this. The gearing in the V-Max, when placed in the Venture will lower 5th gear (not as high) and add more torque in all the lower gears, which improves two up riding and towing a trailer. Many of us believe that this is the way Yamaha should have went in the first place. Interestingly, many V-Max riders prefer the Venture set up as it gives them a higher 5th gear. A few of us here, including our host Don (Freebird) have done this swap out. Blue Ridge will sell you the rear-end (with the appropriate drill out for your speedo connection) for around $300.00 with you sending him your Venture rear-end gears as a core exchange. My daughter lives in Pa. about 15 minutes from John's shop (Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax). John is an interesting fellow, specializes in V-Max's and custom bikes. After talking to John and others about the swap-out the wife and I visited our daughter for a week last Labor Day and I had John perform the swap out. The difference was night and day, best improvement I have ever seen on a bike, plenty of power and torque in all gears, no problem two up in hills or while towing...ride improvement was considerable and no more lugging while running through small towns. There are links here to Blue Ridge Mountain Sportmax...but here is their site address... http://www.rmsportmax.com/ Everytime I hop on this bike now I am satisfied and impressed with this improvement!
  4. I was cruising the web on Saturday and thought I'd look for a site that said why Vinnie left OCC. I found one that said it had a vidio of Sr. but wanted me to update my program. Without thinking( I do that a lot) I said ok and all hell broke loose. Although I have Webroot Spysweeper and Norton Virus on the computer, when staring up I get a screen of green fields and blue sky, the real screen with icons comes on, then the screen comes on with the icons again in a dark blue screen. Athough my scans come out with no problems, I get popups telling me I "may have a virus and click here to correct". When I do its an add for software. I'm running XP. I'm wodering if anybody knows of some software that can help, or does the machine have to be taken down and everything reinstalled? Thanks Kenw
  5. I've got the 89 blue two tone RSV and I want to paint the Sears x-cargo box to match or close. Anyone have luck matching the Krylon colors to that year of bike? The colors offered on their website look as if the two most similiar might be: Blue Hyacinth 2333 (darker blue) Satin Twilight 2440 (lighter blue) I'm also looking for the pinstriping between the two colors. Iowa Guy
  6. As mentioned in the subject line.... My nice chrome mufflers on my 84 Venture got extremely hot awhile back and the chrome got a blue tint to it. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how do you get the blue off the chrome and restore it to the bright chrome finish?
  7. I am aware of the forum section that discusses the history of the Venture. It has a section for colors by year (link below). http://www.venturerider.org/modules.php?name=History#Colors%20by%20Year While the person credited for listing all the different variations is to be commended, I believe we need to take it a step further to include pictures of said colors. My reasoning is that some years came with multiple color combos, and in some cases, you cannot tell which color combo a particular V or VR has. For example, in 1987 it lists; 1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown among others, but several of us have not been able to distinguish between the color combos. So my proposal is to have fellow forum member post pictures of their bikes designating the color they have. Preferably, it will be based on paperwork they have on their bikes, or even better a color brochure of that particular model year. A good example would be the post below by mbrood which includes the 1986 brochure listing the different color bikes featured in it. The listed colors from year to year are as follows so far; 1200 1983 black TK Sparkle crimson ( single color ) 1983 red TK New Ruby Red/ Romanesque Crimson 1983 gold TDK Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1984 gold DL/DK Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold 1984 red L/KC2 Bright Cherry Red ( single color ) 1984 blue L/KC2 Orion Silver / Aurora Silver 1984 red DL/DK New Ruby Red /Romanesque Crimson 1985 brown DN Glorius Maxi Brown / Marshall Gold 1300 1986 gold DS/DT - - like 1200 gold - - 1986 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown 1986 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown 1986 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold 1987 blue T ? 8. By now folks know of Popeye buying a Gold Wing 1500, well I caught the virus as well it will be here this coming Saturday. 1988 Gold Wing 1500 blue marble color that is in good shape. Don't worry we still have the 83 beast.I'll be using the beast for work and the blue marble for trips. 9. Hi folks - as I finish up Mocha and her winter maintenance I have come across another 1st Gen. It is a 1989 blue on blue royale. Nice bike but it is mising the lower fairings. Needs Right and Left lowers, front cross bar, and the lower scoop. It has 35K on it and appears good otherwise. Any ideas on the lower parts? Guess I could scour e-bay and hope. Lonestarmedic JB
  10. Last week I saw some cool photo's of an Air Show in San Francisco with the Blue Angels. Can someone help me find that?
  11. hi everyone gotta love the snow! Everyday its here its one less day to look at it . Any way vacation next year is a trip down skyline drive and part of the blue ridge parkway, then down to the keys. Once in florida espicially in the southern part anyone have recomendations on camp grounds?
  12. is patch #6, with 83% of the votes. I have attached the patch and done a quick redo with 2 slight changes - the blue in the background is Ontario but looks like it is water because of the colour so I changed the blue background to green to look more like land. I also removed the VentureRider logo (please forgive me) and replaced it with "Life's a Venture, get on and ride." Unless there are any SERIOUS issues with those changes, the planning committee is moving forward with this patch design for the shirts and patches.
  13. You remember I got a "New" 1st Gen not long ago and been trying to find time to get carbs off and clean them to get it running. Bike shows 22k and owner swore that was right. Lot of goodies on it and needs cleaned badly. i finally got a little time to pull carbs today. He claimed it had never sat outside was in heated garage all its life. 25 yrs!! when I pulled carbs every thing I got to was stuck. Crud on carbs and bottom of air box was hard to believe. Bike does look good but makes me wonder where all that came from. And plugs are gone so someone has been in carbs. They are so dirty I'm thinking of swapping with "Blue Beast" I don't know of any place that soaks the things any more. Something wrong with that being that dirty. Might be 122k. I hope not and it sounds too good what few seconds I could get it to run priming it. I'll keep everyone posted. Carbs off the "Blue Beast"??? Hate to take that engine apart. Parts bike runs too good to take things from. i need another 1st Gen. Never have too many. Didn't mean to write book just thinking out loud and know there are a few wondering about the scoot.
  14. Yammer Dan 83&84 Venture Std. Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Ivydale Nice looking Scoot. But do what?? 15. Our local CMA chapter had a ride from Mobile to Owassa,AL, just over 100 mile north of Mobile. Beautiful day and about 55 degrees. Fished in his lake and had a cookout with good old home cooking. My wife an I had a wounderful time. We drove at an indicated 75 which I know is actually 70, but I went 186.2 miles on 4.3 gallons, 43.3 mpg. I could have made it all the way home but I didn't want to take the chance of not making it. Big Blue ran great. I am real happy with it. Oh, at that speed with the intercom on I couldnot hear the whine. Today I rode with a friend on his RK and I heard a whine that I had not heard before, then I noticed it was his HD whineing louder than Big Blue. tew47:bighug:
  16. A friend and I just completed one of the most spectacular trips that I have been on, and it was in my backyard. We started at Front Royal,Va and rode the 105 miles of the Shenandoah National Park. The Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Drive) ends and the Blue Ridge Parkway begins. We rode the 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway from beginning to end. The Parkway ends in Cherokee, NC. We then rode to the Dragon. Although, I was at Vogel and the Dragon in August with VentureRiders, and even though, I have been riding the Parkway for years, it is the first time that I have ridden from the Shenandoah and completely through the Blue Ridge on a single trip. We ended up doing over 700 miles of nothing but mountain roads in 4 days and a total of 1300 miles in 6 days. You can easily ride the Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge in 3 days. We took our time and stopped at a lot of overlooks. The scenery was spectacular. The weather was great. We ran into rain on the last day when we returning home. The wildlife was great. We saw dozens of deer, scores of turkeys, several hawks, and even 2 black bear at 2 different times. One of the bears was on the shoulder of the road. The other bear was in the road. We were not even sure that it was going to run away to begin with, but it did. I have been going to the Blue Ridge since I was a kid, and have never seen a Black Bear there. How lucky can you get to see 2 of them on the same trip. Everything about the trip was great. We met lots of great people on motorcycles along the way. If you want a spectacular and memorable trip, I strongly recommend this route. It gave me a different perspective of my own backyard. Now for my Harley riding, high school friend;Bruce. He is retired Air Force and lives in Dover,De. He has owned his Harley for 4 years, and this was his first trip that he has taken on it without towing it in it's enclosed trailer. He found out that it is much more enjoyable to ride your bike than to tow it. I think I have him hooked on riding it now. The farthest he had ridden on any trip before this was 300 miles, and that was only once. Now I have to teach him how to pack. As you can see by the pictures, he had the trunk and both saddlebags packed, the trunk rack packed, a bag on the passenger seat, and then bags stacked on them. This was for a 6 day trip. All the bikers poked fun at him for bringing so much stuff. We got ask several times where we were camping at. I would be laughing while he explained we were not camping. We stayed at a motel every night. I would grab my Beer 30 made trunk bag and go into the motel room. I had one saddle bag empty and an empty bag on my trunk rack. He had to get a cart every night to haul his stuff in the room. And I got to sleep until he got his bike loaded every morning. But hey, the rookie had to learn, and he did. All the razzing aside, we had a great trip and I highly recommend this route to you. And one final note. The dam in the picture is Fugitive Dam in NC. That is where Harrison Ford did the swan dive while Tommy Lee Jones was holding a gun on him in the movie The Fugitive.

Anyway,, any venture rider who whats the open can have it for 70 bucks del in the usa. Cost me 100 plus there is a extra light smoke visor that was 24 extra.. all yours. 19. Desiccant Canister The following E-Mail was was written to Bench Wrench (Fred Vogt) when he was writing that column for the VTS Motorcycle Roads and gives the answer to how to refresh the desiccant in the canister attached to the Class air pump. Fred: Thank you for answering my inquiry so quickly. You were concerned about my reason for being in my bike's desiccant canister. Well like I said I just recently purchased this machine and have no maintenance history on it. Being mechanically inclined I bought a service manual, micro fiche, and have been on line trying to find out as much as I can while performing the initial maintenance on it. Both the owners manual and service manual tell me to replace the desiccant every two years or sooner if used in areas of high humidity. Wanting to do a thorough job I opened the canister and found the BB sized silica gel colored a very light color blue. I thought that odd because the service manual mentioned colorless when new, and turning pink when time to replace - no mention of blue. Naturally I was stumped when they turned dark blue upon heating them up. That's when I made my inquiry. I have since learned something about silica gel desiccant, it can be regenerated with heat. Furthermore the beads I had in my bike were of the indicating type, they were made with a "0.4 TO 0.5% cobaltious chloride" content. In translation, blue is dry, dark blue is very dry. They turn pink when saturated and can be baked blue over and over again. Sounds to me like Yamaha really wants my money at $48 a pop. Needless to say I just baked my beads in the oven at 250 degrees for two hours till they were nice and blue then poured them back into the canister for another two years. Amazing what a little information can do for ya! Again many thanks for maintaining the bench Wrench site, I've learned quite a bit, web page helped tip the balance in favor of my getting this bike. After having worked on my machine these past few weeks I can say I am not disappointed! Thanks, Broderick J. Maher NOTE: I received this tip from another member here. "I came across the mention of refreshing the desiccant for the Class and the high cost for the stuff from Yamaha, and I wanted to mention that you can get it relatively cheap from any place that sells dryer for hearing aids. It is the same stuff and you can get a whole can of it for under $10." He told me that he found it at Walgreen's.
