1. I find that the rear lights are a bit dim... How can I make them brighter?
2. I am hoping to tap into the brain trust here once again. I have been working on mounting the passenger arm rests I got from Snaggletooth. I have got that part figured out (photos to be posted later), but, when I tried to put the saddle bags back on, the "posts" were a tiny bit short. I am at work right now and was wondering if there is any adjustments to the length of the mounting posts that go into the slot? Thanks in advance. Dave
3. One of my winter projects was to convert all my running and marker lights to LED. I've got my front fender marker and then four double sets in the rear light bar and then four mini Barons on top of the light bar. That's fourteen 194 bulbs alone. I can see the drop on the volt meter when I turn them on. Wanted to get that down a bit. I stopped at about every truckstop and and independent bike shop I came across looking for housings and light assemblies and never really found anything that would make a clean mount or look like it belonged there. Then I found these guys a while back. www.superbrightleds.com Right out of Missouri, USA! I bought a few LEd bulbs with the 194 type wedge base to try and liked what they did. In fact, I had one out of the first batch that was a bit intermitant and I shot them an e-mail and they sent a replacement the next day. No problem at all with their customer service people. These LEDs have voltage range from 5-14.5 volts depending on the LED type and a full selection to cover about any application. You can select the beam pattern, how wide, on most of the styles and luminous intensity for your application also on most. So I ordered everything I needed to do the markers and will get to the dash lights later on. For under $45.00 I got enough to do everything and that included shipping. A whole $5.00 for that. But I took a pic of the rear bar with only two LEDs in the Barons. Should be able to pick them out easy enough. Brought the red back out instead of that orangish color. Betting that my volt meter won't even flinch when I kick all these puppies on. I paid about .96 cents each for the stock 194 bulbs and $1.99 each for the 5 bulb LEDs that went into the Baron. Just read the spec sheets on the LEDs before ordering. The LEDs are bit bigger depending on the application. I ordered three different types for mine to get them to fit. Now if that ain't a poor man fix......what is? Mike
4. First time I have seen this upgrade for a 1st Gen, looks like it would provide quite a bit of light........... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-83-85-Halogen-Projector-Light-Upgrade_W0QQitemZ170454829736QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item27afe64aa8
5. I took Blu out for a couple hours today and i almost feel human again. I was down to the last fuel bar and still had enough seafoam to cause a let of very smelly smoke. It took a bit to warm up but once it ran a bit, I took to the road. I rode it to the station and filled up. there was just a bit of flutter taking off but after a few min on the interstate, everything smoothed out and she was silk again. I had not ridden it since I had trouble with height and almost dumped it at a stop sign. After Yammer Dan and others helped me through the settings, I got a mud wasp nest out of the shock area and I could flat foot her. I decided to go play in the slow traffic and get used to it. I was amazed that I never had to put my feet down until I was totally stopped. She balanced very well even going really slow. I tried some tight turns. It was no effort to pull into a parking space in an empty lot pull through the spot and u back into the third spot with no problem. As much as I would like a RSV, I hope the guy does not come up with the money this weekend. Thanks for the help guys!
6. Just wanted to let everybody know that I have repaired the tech article that Squidley had done on installing the auxiliary line splitter on the RSV. It was an excellent article but the photos were linked to a now defunct photobucket account so none of the images were showing up. I have now uploaded all the images are corrected the article to point to their permanent location. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3905 I actually got caught up a bit tonight and had a little time to practice my guitar for a while. I always take it with me when I travel but haven't had much time to play it lately. It sure felt good to pick for a bit.
7. http://jimspages.com/States.htm Map of USA Puzzle.. THIS IS NEAT Wonder how a high school senior would do on this one? See how you do in placing the states of the United States Of America .. All you do is look at the top of the page and drag'n'drop the state to where it belongs. Smart map, varies the order of the states' placement with each new try! It isn't easy mostly because placing a state in the precise location when it as yet has no boundaries in place is a bit tricky! No half credit for close but over a tad.... 86% Score 20 mile average error 263 seconds time Gary
8. OK folks I set a date it can be changed but need a bit of input. I get a bit impatient waiting so I figured I'd go ahead and start. Now if it's ok we'll get started on planing this event. So please check the rally section (regional) and voice your opinion. I'll give it about a week and then I'll put the date on the calendar. Sorry I get a bit bossy must be from being the oldest. Plus I've been asked about when it will be and I know some folks need to get their dates in for vacation except for those folks that have vacation everyday. Margaret

Proud Papa

Well, my youngest arrived at Ft. Sill yesterday, to start his basic training. That's the same place I went for my basic and AIT. At least it should be cooling off there a little bit. Bet he's lovin' life by now....lol:scared:
11. 1986 Venture started great in warmer weather on little to no choke. As time went on it got harder to start. Now it "might" start after turning over for a minute or two and ocassionally backfiring with various choke settings in the start process and eventually starts with no choke. It seems to bog down quit a bit, rpm wise, when choke or gas is used while engine cranks. No gas or choke it cranks quit a bit faster. Once it has finally started it will then re-start instantly, everytime, with maybe one or two turns, all day long, works great, lots of power and with excellent gas mileage. Sit for 12 hours overnight and back to hard start problems. New battery is in top condition and cranks un-choked motor over quickly. New plugs. Tried spraying starter fluid (ether) in carbs after removing air filter which had absolutely no effect. I am suspecting the CDI perhaps ????????? Gerry
12. If anybody is looking for valve cover gaskets there is a listing for them on ebay now for a fair price and cheap shipping. It's a Buy it Now for NOS and take as many as you want. There were three left a little bit ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200393189413&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Just FYI.
13. What happened to your Hokies Thuesday night? Did they lose to the lowly Tarheels? Naw, no way that could have happened. Not in Blacksburg, their home turf. I just couldn't resist hacking on you a little bit, us 'Heels fans don't get to brag too much during football season. Now basketball season is a whole different story!! Dave
14. On the way back from the Havasu Biker Rodeo I was following an 18 wheeler at about 75MPH. When I decided to pass him, I moved to the left lane, turned the throttle all the way and heard the RPMs go up but the bike didn't speed up until I let off the throttle a bit and then twisted a bit slower. To me that means my clutch was slipping. That the was the first time that has ever happend. Is it time for a new clutch or what? The bike is an 06 with about 28,000 miles.
15. we have had our RSV coming on 3 months now. my last bike was over 20 years ago & a crotch rocket where everything seemed fine and before i had met & married my wonderful wife Debbie. She is no stranger to motorcycles BTW We started talkin about how nice it would be to have a touring bike we could ride 2 up and be comfortable. now with a touring bike, we thought great, now we have it. Well, she told me all she could see was the back of my helmet. I have tried sitting a bit right while she sat a bit left. that didn't work cause the bike follows my eyes and i can't keep it where i need it. I have mentioned a second bike for her, but she doesn't want to do that. we would rather ride together anyway. So, with all that, what do ya'll do when ever you are a passenger to look ahead & see more than the back of a helmet? I won't be able to check this thread untill late monday night, so if i don't comment till then, you know why. i am on call at work, so my schedule is hectic. I will let Deb read ya'll's comments and maybe we can work something out. thanks, dale in La.
16. Went over to pick up my scoot after leaving it there last Saturday, and the guy cleaned it and waxed it up a bit as well!! Think I'll leave it over there more often...
17. I did a few upgrades to my 87 standard, and one of them was to replace the clutches, and double up the clutch spring. It sure is annoying when you have a very respectable amount of horsepower, but can't use it because of slipping clutches. The new clutches and double springs certainly cured that, but now I'm a bit worried that I'll break something else. I tend to like to "play" with the horsepower from time to time, ( when you put the juice to it it'll either smoke the tire or pull the front end ) The initial thrill is over, so I've settled down a bit, but I wonder how strong the driveline is. Just curious. Everything seems fine, but I'd hate to screw up the rear diff, or tranny. Anyone have any input? 87 Venture Standard 85 Honda Nighthawk 700s 82 Honda 900 custom (resto. project)
18. OK I need an electrician to help me out here. Half the house is out of power. I already changed the main fuses for the house. There's two of them and their the long round solid ones. I can get pics if you guys need them to understand what I'm talking about. The problem seems to be in one of the fuses. Everytime I try changing it, it pops. First time it did it was a bit of a shock to me. I was hoping that it would be ok. I have to go around and make sure I unplugged everything in those rooms. That's gonna take a bit since I have to crawl under the bed in the spare room with a flashlight and get the stuff out under it to get to the outlet. I've gotten most of the stuff unplugged. I need to know what else to do. Can the socket for the fuse go bad? If so I can get another one, I think. I'll check the local places for that stuff. Actually I'll add the pics of what the fuses look like while I'm doing this now. The first one is one of the main fuses it has two. The second is one of the fuse type that keeps blowing on me. It's a 20amp. Oh I already tried picking Riderdukes brain. He's gonna think a bit more on this for me too. Thanks guys I appreciate this. Margaret
19. Well we have all been hearing me talk about going to Houston....it just took 1 step closer to being done. I had the POD delivered today, 5 days early and we are going to start packing it tomorrow. Seems a bit surreal and Lonna and I are both under a bit of stress right now, but I'm hoping that the Lone Star state will help cure that. So for all our brothers and sisters down in Texas....were almost there

Tire order

Decided to try out the Elite 3 and when I went to order at southwestmoto I got a cetificate problem eror with the web site. I over-road it the first time but then there was an eror and the order didn't go thru. Tried again but got nervous about the message about a fake site stealing identity so I tried to look up a number to call and since they decided not to take phone orders they don't list their number. Well I have ordered 3 sets of tires from them and know that squid always recomends them because of what they did for Charlie, but they just lost my buisness, sorrry. First off you can't contact them about a problem since they have changed owners, second their prices are a bit high even with free shipping on 2. I tried american motorcycle tires next and the order went thru at app.$239 with shipping compared to 248 at southwest. Then got a notice the the rear tire is backordered for 3-4 weeks, they let me cancel the order. Checked another site and the rear was out of stock. Then denniskirk who I have used a bit over the years and last I looked they scarred me with that $5 per tire charge. Well it turns out that is the shipping and still was cheaper than anyone else at $224 total and change for both tires.
21. Just to let you all know, TODAY, 25 YEARS AGO, WAYNE & ROBIN TIED THE KNOT. :happy65: They plan to celebrate by going on a ride,,,, they've had quite a ride so far and it seems they've enjoyed it very much, but tonite it's a MC ride. Join us if you like. I suppose it'll be up to me again to decide where to ride to, but we are riding from Marcarl's I guess. After all it is Tuesday and my knee has had enough relaxation, and Scamper is biting at the bit. So CONGRATULATIONS you two, now for the next 25.
22. Hi all. I sure love my old '83 1st Generation Venture. what a great bike! runs great, pulls awesome (I do pull a trailer), and handles fantastic! (I have 3) I'm considering moving onto something a bit newer, because now that the kids are grown, my wife & I are getting back into cross country trips...like we used to...woohoo!!!!...and are considering something a bit newer (for many reasons) I have a guy out here that has a very nice '92 with all the bells and whistles...OK... but I haven't been able to find much in the search about... "exactally...what's the difference (other than styling) between the 1st generation Ventures, and the 2nd generation units???" The engines and running gear are the same....right?? Believe it or not, I can't stand the Harley knock-off look of the new ones...(and I own 2 H-D's) Do the 2nd generation models handle much differently?? ride?? Weight & balance??? I KNOW there are a number of folks on this board that have ALOT of experience with both of these bikes...what do you guys think??? or can you just point out a link to a thread that will answer this?? (I'd rather learn all this NOW...before I spend a bunch of $$$)
23. It seems Eck and Dragonrider could not resist a little bit of hand combat... It was considered a tie!
24. Today when i got home it was on the step's like a kid in the candy store i had to rip it open and sure enough look what i Got! cant wait till i have time to put it up and use it; im sure the new trailer is going to be getting lots of use as this is a bit bigger then my old one http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h269/drayco58/IMG_0032.jpg?t=1249594935 now this one should be just right for them rain days i can put the bike inside and clean it while waiting on the sunshine:cool10: Dray
25. Pretty much since day one that I got this scoot, I've noticed that it seems to want to steer to the left. If I take my hands off the grips on a flat, straightaway (and I've done this on several of them and at different positions in the lane), the bike will sart going to the left and I have to body lean (no hands remember) to the right to keep it straight. I also notice I'm constantly pulling a bit with my left hand and pushing a bit with my right (counter steering) as I feel the pressure on my hands to keep the bike on a straight line. similarly, when I take a right hand corner, it takes more counter steer pressure than it does on a left hand corner. I raised this with the dealer and they road tested it...said it was hardly noticeable and offered no explanation or cure other than to suggest my handle bars were a bit "twisted" (yeahsureright). Said because they are rubber mounted, they can get that way a bit. I chalk that up to the "pull/push" added pressure I am constantly applying to keep it going straight. Any ideas about this guys?
