    Stripped down MK1

I have my 84 Venture stripped down as I was doing a bunch of work on it getting ready for my first season - coming up soon! YEAH! Anyways, has anyone taken one of these bikes and stripped it down and ridden the bike without all the extra plastic? Does is look ok? Any opinions out there???? Thanks
  2. Since I Started with British Bikes and still love them I belong to the Utah British Bike Club.Someone from there sent this youtube film to me.It is long,27 min but very enjoyable and it is great to see the old bikes when they were fairly new. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUxRmDHeE44&feature=player_embedded]Rode Safely Victor Horsman Liverpool 1955 - YouTube[/ame] enjoy
  3. Get this: The guy whom sold me my 1st Venture (I've had many other bikes) actually told me that it had a "passing gear" when I mentioned to him about the clutch slip! I had never heard of anything like this before, but he swore he found it on the internet after the guy he bought it from told him about it. Correct me if I am wrong, but these bikes are like the Suzuki Cavalcade, prone for an under engineered clutch that needs attention because of slippage when the throttle is twisted hard. I talked to a guy at PCW racing today who is putting together a complete clutch package for around $120.00 or so. Is this pretty much inline for a price? I measured a couple of friction disks, and they were borderline in spec, so I am going for the whole package (it has the 6 spring setup). I would appreciate any help you guys could give me, as I lost my job and my unemployment ran out sometime back. Thank you!!
  4. Hello all!!! After much thought about what our next bike should be, we are really liking the idea of either a used Venture or Deluxe. Thinking 2004 - 2008 but will go pre-2004 if there is really not much difference in features, ride etc. Our thinking is to keep this bike for 3-5 years then get something brand new. Are there normal maintenance, wear and tear, recall type things for these bikes that I should be considering? As an example; value adjustments at 5,000, cable replacements, etc, etc. Would like to try and avoid picking something up then finding out it needs $1,000 in work. Thanks...
  5. Noone that I have come across in my life so far is or ever was an original owner. Well, one reletive of mine was and he totalled it setting the cruise so i dont really know if that counts. I guess what im asking if there is anyone who is or was, what made you chose the venture over the GL 1200/1500. Have you ridden both bikes? And what are your key favorite things about both? I just figured this would be a neat thread to start. Well ill buckle up for hopefully a great story!!!
  6. Hi all, I'm new to the forum and to RSTD's. After looking at bikes for about one year I had narrowed my possible choices down to either a RSTD or a Kawy Nomad. I missed one great deal on an RSTD but found another and picked it up yesterday. I've only put about 80 miles on it so far and I am very happy. More importantly, the wife is happy. I want to avoid mistakes made with past bikes. Does anyone use the 3M paint protection film and if so, can you give me your thoughts?
  7. New Richmond Ohio, not many details as of yes, but with it being midf 60's here today lots of bikes out,, 4 riders riding on us 52 one crossed the center line in front of a concrete truck hit head on, truck was full severed and in doing os truck flips rolling into the other four bikes killing 2 and sending all, including the truck driver to the hospital. lets all please be super careful this yr and hopefully we never add to these statistics, and say a few kindwords/prayers for those in involved here, steve
  8. If I set it on medium front and back it bleeds out overnight. What is considered normal for these bikes?
  9. I have two lady friends who want to travel to the U.S. next year. They want to go to Sturgis and then tour around. What they want to do is purchase two bikes with buy back at the end. they will probably fly in to L.A. Bikes they want: Naked sport bike. MotoGuzzi 750-900 preferred, as that's what they ride now. But any Naked bike similar to this is okay. For around $2,000 Can anyone help with information?????
  10. Looks like our bikes here in Canada have finally been lowered to match US prices. The price of a Venture has dropped $3,900 Canadian. Yamaha has announced big price drops on its most popoular bikes. I guess it is good news if you have nothing to sell and are a new buyer??? http://www.cyclecanadaweb.com/articles/14098/
  11. I sold my 85 Venture Royale with the two tone brown paint about 2 years ago, and basically completely quit using the site. Well im back in the Venture saddle again Im purchasing 2 identical 2 tone gold 83 Royales. I purchased both with a total price of $1000!!! One has 65,000 miles and the other has 28,000. The one with 28k doesnt drive because the carburator is plugged, and I intend to ride the one with 65K home. I believe i came across a great deal. The one with more miles needs a speedometer cable and 2nd gear is out of it, which i intend to repair. It also has a bad rear master cylinder. It has the Radio deck and CB with the electronic air shocks, but the back one you have to pump up with a compressor. The one with less miles needs a few pieces to put back together, a carb rebuild (which i intend to do). I will also replace the 2nd gear clip in this transmission too, before it can go bad. It also needs a rear master cylinder and a rear tire. Neither of these bikes has cruise, which I intend to fix. But i plan on putting the better of the two parts onto one bike with less miles and have 1 really nice venture, and the other a "bad weather venture" or sell it for more than what i bought both bikes for. I have a few pictures of the bikes, if anyone wants to see.

    New to forum

Well thanks to Don, I've learned how to get on this thing. So if all goes bad blame Don. While not new to bikes and riding I am new to the dresser deal, and so far the wife love the venture! I was born ridding and raceing M X and was a factory rider for bulltaco, so you know how old I am. We have owend allmost every make of bikes in the last 30 yrs. In 02 I bought a V* 11 cust , it was cheep and I wanted a new bike. The plan was to buy a real bike ( as my H D ridding buddies say) the next year or so. Well that was 30k miles ago and the 11 had been cut and choped and hot roded and painted , you know the deal. Now I have a 15 K in a 02 11 V* that I would never part with! So with fixing up the11 to the point it was not a long distance bike we had a chose to make. The wife was rideing a 06 11 V* But we keep eyeballing the dressers out on the road. and starting shoping. We looked at all the bikes and keep comeing back to the venture! So in 07 we bought a 07 bule @ black R S V and have not put less then 500 miles a day on when we hit the road! with over 3K on it the first summer ( picked it up in july and winter hit in nov.) Can't wait for spring. Sorry for rambilg on , but don't worry about reading this fast cuse I type slow! Would like to hook up with outher riders in Idaho Thanks for your time . Thankes Kevin @ Nancy P S we are restoring a 1962 ca72 honda dream that we'e owned for28 yrs. and are looking for parts. Thanks again Kevin
  13. before I even ask this I should know better by now but here goes. Just ordered a new trailer that has factory Led's and is wired for 4 wires. From other threads looks like the Hoppy 4 to 5 converter will work and a lot cheaper than the other isolators, converters, and sub wiring harness that I have looked at. #1 Will the Hoppy converter be more economical than installing two more lights to the trailer for turn signals? #2 Will installing two more lights for turn signals require any kind of isolator? #3 Will wiring trailer directly to bike harm the bikes electrical system ? From what have read the isolator puts the load on the battery and not the bikes charging system. I'm not using any heated gear or planning any other lighting upgrades other than maybe some strip leds under the tank etc.. In theory trailer will only be used a few times a year. I have read so many old threads and opinions that I have information overload so give me some more and maybe it will fix this hangover.
  14. Is there anyone thinking of doing one? If not I would like to host one June 30th here at our place near Viroqua Wi, I have alot of room for working on bikes we also have a camping area next to the creek for those that would like to come and campout there are motels 6 miles away along with other places to stay. I would like to do a Friday ride work on bikes Satarday and that night have a cookout and bonfire. Thanks Orlin
  15. I saw this when I was checking out the link provided about the 12 cycl motor in the other thread. There are more cool bikes and helmets etc at the bottom of the page too. I kind of liked the Jaguar bike http://www.xoxobook.com/automobile/awesome-motorcycle-concepts/?utm_source=wahoha.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=wahoha
  16. I just bought a 2000 2nd gen, still have my 1st gen, gonna semi retire the 84 for now. Yes, big differences but you can get parts for a 2000. My 84 and 2000 are both redheads, I like red bikes!
  17. Been talking to a some people I know and it seemed funny how many of us own both a Venture or RSTD AND a FJR..... Must be the best bikes out there
  18. Hmmm...wonder if this could help with the problem of top heavy bikes? http://sync.sympatico.ca/Video/?bclid=624360938001&bctid=1224852912001 Andy
  19. If you are like me you are always curious what happens to our bikes when we sell or trade them. We I got a Face Book request to be friends with the sales person that handled the trade of our 04 VTX 1800 C on an 07 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe (second week of August 2011). I have post pictures of what they looked like when traded/bought and what the VTX looks like now. The van, driven by a person under the influence of drugs and booze hit the mail box about a quarter mile up the road when the van first left the road. The next thing it hit was our old VTX plowing other bikes and quads our of the way. Far as I know nobody was on or looking at any of the bikes or ATV's. I'm sure the X is totaled being an 04, but it was an 11k bike that looked as good on the bottom as it looked on top, the dealer had it listed as "MINT". BTW the only reason for trading is the Yamaha has air ride, electronic cruise control, factory hard bags and quick release sissy bar and windshield.
  20. Let me know if anyone has anything they want to know about new Kawi bikes for 2012. I am heading to their dealer meeting in Orlando tomorrow and will get to preview all 2012 bikes, ATV's and PWC's while I'm there. They always hold something back as a surprise announcement, so I'm not sure what will be unveiled, but it should be fun!
  21. We have done Bike Week in 05, Biketoberfest in 2010 and are thinking about going again this October. In the past we have tried to connect with other VTX owners, which is what we were ridding then. We now have a 07 RSTS and would like to meet others with like bikes for swapping ideas, maintenance procedures and mod's. It was always difficult to get very many VTX's together at one time. I'm not sure why it was so difficult, I think many riders ride with their friends regardless of what they ride rather than a group of like brand bikes. Anyhow as time goes on and there is interest of getting together lets share cell numbers and where we all will be staying. Below is the evolution of what I have ridden since moving to Florida, 01 Shadow, 03 VTX 1800, back surgery, hip replacement, 06 Yamaha Majesty scooter, 04 HD 1200 Trike (I built and hated it), 03 VTX 1800 and now the 07 RSTD. Funny how our minds work, my wife got going on this thinking it would be a nice treat for me. Yesterday I asked her "so you are excited about going back to Daytona?" She answered me with "I thought it would be something you would really like to do". I told her I was thinking of some place new for a fall trip. Now we are thinking of going to the Upper Keys or Tarpon Springs area. Sorry if this was misleading to anyone.
  22. just got an email to say that the trike didn't leave Portland till the 1st October!!!!! So probably won't have it here at home till near the end of November now :crying::bang head: Once the container of bikes is handed over to the shipping line, it's up to them when it sails apparently
  23. Our weekend started being fun after Missy and Dana showed up from NC, they were riding with us to St. Jude. That night we threw some steaks on the grill and had a great relaxing meal. We sat up and talked VR and bikes till about 11:30, even though we had to be up at 3:00 am to leave for Memphis. We didnt take the bikes but still had a great time. When we arrived at the Flying J, there were already 4 bikes waiting for us at 10:30 am, and among them was this huge trike, it used to be a VW powered trike, but he wanted a bigger engine so he stretched the frame and body and installed a Chevy 302 ci engine in it. Shortly thereafter they started arriving, p/u trucks, suv's, bikes, cars, and a couple of 2 seat convertibles. The NARR group had 25 1/2 people and we had 24 1/2 people, Jason Murphy is a member of both so we split him. You know VR members aren't the only ones with some crazies, they have their share for such a small group. We had a great time with them. Hope they make it again next year. We had a great lunch at Denny's then rode over to St. Jude with 21 bikes and all those cages. It was a pretty impressive sight all those bikes and cages with their flashers going, nobody got lost getting there. The folks a St. Jude were ready for us with 4 tour guides and a big check which they filled in with the info for the pics. I presented them with some t shirts from Vogel and they like them so much, they might use some of the design on some of their shirts. The tour was great, and we even got to meet a young patient and have our pic taken with him. After the tour a bunch of us went down to Tunica a made some donations to Mississippi's economy via a couple of casino's. The weather was absolutely beautiful and nothing could spoil our mood even loosing at the casino's didnt bother us. This was the most special trip to St. Jude, it ranks right up there with the ride in 2007, when Mean Dog rode with us. Folks, if you have never been to a VR event, this is one you really, really need to attend, you will come away with a tear in your eye and a lump in your throat. This place is special and so are the people that work there and volunteer there. Next year we will likely tour the Ronald McDonald house....... Thanks to everyone, who participated!!!!! ;
  24. Several of us at work ride. Some ride crotch rockets, a few of us ride "those other bikes" and we of course have the HD guys. Now in the HD group these is one guy and you all know him that its HD or nothing. On a side note he is a good friend of mine and did come out and look at RSV the first day I brought it to work. When I sold my Vstar 1100 to move up he sent me a picture of 98 Heritage but it needed work. Told him thanks but no thanks; I'm buying a bike to ride not work on. Quite honestly I'm just not in the postion to pour money into any bike. This week at work the HD guy, myself and a former rider (thinking of getting back on) were discussing bikes. The former rider stirring the pot looked at me and asked when I was going to get an HD? My reply was why would I want a Vtwin when I have a V4. So the HD guy says where do you want me to start? I said Start? I ended it at V4. He just grinned and I chalked it up as one for the other guys.
  25. Took a ride up the 'pig trail' today to check things out before it gets packed for the weekend. Think I should have went yesterday already couldn't get up and down Dixon st. the vendor lot wasn't quiet as bad.
