  1. I've come across a '96 Honda Magna, that a neighbor owns. He is thinking of selling and it is in really good shape. I would spend a little extra to get it since I know it has been well cared for, but he is still on the fence about keeping it. Anyway, my son is looking for his 1st bike, and I am a little nervous about this one. I know that these bikes are fast and quick, everything else about it I like. Especially the V-4 motor. I know for a fact that these bikes can get up close to 130 mph or more, and this worries me with a 17 year old. Aside from the speed, if anybody knows of any other issues let me know.
  2. Quick question. We have a 99 venture and have talked with friends about a ride in the mountains of Colorado. Friends with fuel injected bikes have concerns about ours not being fuel injected. Surely it's not a big enough issue to be concerned with, but thought I'd ask if anybody had experience with this. Thanks for the input, Creole.
  3. Anybody have any comments as to the quality, and any problems, with this model Yamaha ?? I have been to a few dealers latley, and seen several of them on sale for what seems to be bargain price's. Any comments from anybody who has owned a ridden these bikes would be appreciated !! Thanks.
  4. We ordered a Morgn CarbTune online on the 24th of May. Recieved it today, the 31st of May! Whart great service. Dan and I are going to have our own mini-maintenence day on our bikes as soon as the valve cover gaskets come in for my '84. I feel so much more confident in doing repairs and service on my bike because I know that if I get into a jam, the folks here can always come through and bail me out. I have saved a copy of the PDF that rstacy made from Skydoc's step by step for the first gen. I will be printing this and taking it to the garage with me. Dan found a fourm for his Nighthawk, www.nighthawk750.com. That site is almost as friendly as this one. Not nearly as active, but has a lot of good info on it. There is step by step instructions to sync his carb there. With pics! I don't know if we can get at it this weekend, it is Dan's 18th birthday on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be mostly sunny and warm. Maybe I will go for a ride with Dan and work on the bikes later. Take care, Dave
  5. Caged over to my daughters yesterday afternoon for a birthday BBQ, and coming the other direction was a group ride of about 20 bikes. Looked closer and the ride captain's bike had eye brows on the fairing. Dang...a Venture!! Started looking at the other bikes in the group and there were about 8 of them that had the 'brows'. Cool.... It must have been a group from Star Riders 153 going somewhere... It was the most Ventures I'd seen since Cody... I checked the 153 calendar, and it said something about a 'Stary Night' event, but no info on it. That's where they must have been heading.... Wonder what it was...???

  10. Progressive Springs.....Is this a need for the second generation bikes or something that was upgraded and is only used on the first generation bikes? Information comes up some on the first generation bikes. I weigh around 275 - 285 lbs, 5' 11" tall. So kinda large fellow. I have noticed my bike being a little to soft or springy kinda jumpy on a hard pushing right or left lean curve. Maybe I just need to do the air shock stabilizing mod to the front forks. I need a pump just for this. Next on my need to get list. Fuzzy

  12. Anyone here ride a FJR1300A? I am about to write a check for a new one; trading in my Harley. Also promised the boss I'd sell my 86 that I love so dearly. Just can't have two bikes anymore but the one I will own, will be the FJR. Any comments about the FJR will be greatly appreciated. Unless someone changes my mind, I'll have the FJR in my garage by Saturday.
  13. We will be having our 4th annual garage sale and expo on the ASU Searcy campus on Saturday April 21 and I would love to see all you guys come out. We are having a bike show with 3 classes, antique, foreign, and american bikes. The antique bikes must crank and run. 1st-3rd trophies will be awarded in each class and 1 overall best of show. There will also be a car show sponsored by the Civitan Club of Searcy. There will be free spaces if anyone would like to come sell their wares during the show. There will be a 15.00 entry fee that benefits The Skills USA student organization. I am looking forward to making this the best bike show in Arkansas... 14. Hello, I am brand new to the forum. I am 51 yo, been riding for 30 years, many bikes of different styles and brands over the years but never a cruiser. Currently riding a Suzuki V-Strom, which I actually adore. I am 6'2" tall, 225 lbs, 34 " inseam. Lately I have been considering a cruiser/touring bike. I am not interested in any Harleys, but have been looking at some Japanese bikes. My local dealer has one last brand new red 2009 RSTD, which I can buy for just over $12k on the road. He sells many brands and models, but says this bike, with all its features, at this price with the 5 year warranty cant be beat. I think I fit nicely on the bike, although I've never ridden a bike with my feet out in front of me. I am considering this RSTD over every other cruiser due to the way I fit on it and the great V4 engine. But as I read the boards here I have discovered multiple issues, including the gear whine. It seems while many love these bikes, many also have serious issues . . . some never want to get rid of them, some cant wait to dump them. And I cant believe I"m even considering a bike with carburetors in 2012. So I'm just hoping, without offending anyone, if any current owners here believe these are still bikes worth considering in 2012, or have they become outdated, and if that gear whine is a rare occurrence or much more common. I guess what I'm asking is should I consider this bike as a new bike purchase or look elsewhere? Thanks alot in advance for any advice or comments. Craig
  15. Hey all, Does anyone have either first hand knowledge or an opinion on http://racetech.com/html_files/venture.html? The new spring is fairly straight forward, but this cartridge emulator concept is new to me. http://www.racetech.com/images/FEGV2page6L.jpg I've been chatting with the main tech at my local independent bike shop about improving my bikes handling. In addition to leveling links (which I've got ready to go on), he recommends both springs and this emulator. The shop works on all types of bikes, but is most known for sport bike\track bike work. Any comments would be appreciated. What do y'all think? Cheers, Dan P.S. Not sure that I need my venture to every be "flic-able"
  16. http://video.ca.msn.com/watch/video/road-rage-carnage-in-brazil/1glbj4sni?from=sharepermalink-facebook&cpkey=26d16d18-deb8-4205-a706-3cde26b4a8e8%7c%7c%7c%7c I always envision this happening around where I work. Too many hot-heads behind the wheel during rush-hour. Our bikes may be larger than others, but they are still no match for even a compact car. Stay cool everyone!
  17. Has anyone installed this brand of cruise control on a 83VR? It has been used on other bikes but I can't find and info foe the Venture.
  18. Our local police force as decided on Victory brand for their new police motorcycles. We are unsure why they chose Victory so far as we do not have a dealer for them anywhere that does not require a 2 hour ferry ride and a good commute to get to. Victory had made the proposal with the offer to train a local dealership... who all bid against them... to service the new bikes. http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=victory+police+motorcycles&hl=en&biw=1162&bih=667&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=a8eusDhLnjViCM:&imgrefurl=http://www.policemotorunits.com/id272.html&docid=9HLl686JowN9EM&imgurl=http://www.policemotorunits.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/webassets/.pond/VictoryPMPhoto201.jpg.w560h420.jpg&w=560&h=420&ei=zw5tT75s0sqJAs6_hcAF&zoom=1
  19. I'm thinking it would be fun to have the same engine as my VR in a different ride. Does anyone have any experience to report with these bikes? I'm thinking of an an older model, maybe even a 89 so they match.
  20. Sure would make working on our bikes a lot easier! http://www.youtube.com/embed/iKqpvriKZuA Andy
  21. From Tim Horton’s coffee cups to ‘RED’ bikes go faster (and make no mistake it ‘is’ the ‘RED’ bikes) you folks are the best. I've gone through and continue manage very difficult times and have been away from this site for some time now. My absence has not been by choice but rather it’s been necessary for me to focus my energy elsewhere. Sadly, nor have I been riding but I hope that will change this spring. I can see that things here are still going strong and that sense of kinship, a family of sorts, is still among you all. As equally admirable and most refreshing, you haven’t lost your sense of humor and are as informative as usual! Laughter is the best medicine and friendship the gift of life! Thanks Abdul for your concern and thank you Don for restoring my membership. Hello to all of you I’m glad to be back! Charlie
  22. If anyone needs new mufflers for their G1 Venture, (at least I think these are for a G1), they should try Niche Cycle. According to their website it looks like they still have MAC turn downs in stock. I was under the impression that there wasnt any mufflers being made any longer for the G1 bikes so this might be a good opportunity if your pipes are getting worn. I dont know anything about this company, I just looked at the website, so check them out before ordering, and make sure that they are for the G1 bike, not the G2. http://www.nichecycle.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=004-4315&type=0&eq=&desc=Yamaha-Venture-Turn-Down-Mufflers Brian
  23. Ok, I was watching Brain Games on nat geo. They were explaining how the mind can only focus on one thing well and multi tasking. They did some tests and at some point explained that most accidents with motorcycles are cagers who turn left in front of bikes. The cagers are looking for cars and since they do not have motorcycles in their minds they actually dont see the motorcycles since they aren't looking for them, they are looking for cars and trucks. It seems to me if this were true the government would do a better job to educate drivers to look for bikes or place reminders at key intersections to get drivers into the habit.
  24. Will be picking up my new to me Venture Royale tomorrow and can't wait. I will be bringing it home on a trailer as the weather around here isn't too great yet. What I'm wondering is where is the best place to hook the tie down straps. My other bikes don't have all this bodywork to worry about so they are pretty easy. Any help is appreciated. By the way, it's a 1990.
  25. Someone once gave me this information once, or I found it, and now I have miss placed it or deleted it by accident. I know I saved it somewhere. I need the 650-08783 Flanders Bars with the cables deal pacifically for our bikes. Sorry, but I have looked for two hours and I give up. Thank you for your help. Fuzzy :smash2:
