  1. On CNN today.... cool ! Hopefully one day on bikes ! http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/09/self-inflating-tires/
  2. The largest bike dealer in our area (Sunrise Honda Yamaha Suzuki Kawasaki Polaris) has 100+ used bikes in there pre-owned showroom. I have an appointment @ 10:00 this morning to test ride a 2010 Venture, 2010 Kawasaki Voyager, and a 2012 Victory Vision. I am in the market for a full dresser, and this is an excellent opportunity to ride these bikes back to back so I can get an immediate feeling of which on I like most. I am extremely interested in seeing how the V4 compares to the two twins, and also, very curious to compare the difference between the Kawi and Victory twin powerplants. I'll post my findings........
  3. Just wondering if there are other Harley riding members on this forum. I had Royal Star Tour Deluxe before I bought the Harley 2 years ago. I realize there is some Harley bashing that goes on. I've probably even done it myself, but it doesn't bother me. I know all bikes have their benefits and drawbacks.
  4. Calling for a beautiful day in Pa tomorrow, anybody up for a ride-in to the Penn State Creamery. Central to most in Pa, all are welcome. We plan on being there around noon. Enjoy a little Ice Cream, a little BS and checkout the bikes! Craig
  5. This is from the gl1800 rider's forum, as such it is directed specifically toward the Wing.. However the concepts apply to all bikes. This is a long read but worth your time. If we all practiced this, it could save lives. http://gl1800riders.com/forums/showthread.php?329608-SLOW-speed-control-and-Tighter-turning
  6. Hi All you guys with parts bikes... I was wondering if anyone has a set of forks for a MKII they would be willing to part with? Got a project to work on...
  7. A friend sent me this link to these vids that are strung together over a few days while clearing out an auto and bike collector estate. It is the most amazing collection of old bikes ive ever seen, and they started some that hadnt run for 70 years or more! http://www.coolestone.com/media/3728/America039;s-Ultimate-Barn-Find/ Enjoy! Brian
  8. since i'm fazing out the motorcycles. i can't believe i ended up with my all time favorites. i've had a few bikes that have earned a place in my heart, but my majesty scooter, v-star 1300, and stratoliner s are the pick of the crop. the scooter is my little caddy, 58 mpg, automatic, handles like a crotch rocket and will cruise all day at 70 mph. the v-star is fast, comfortable, reliable, looks nice, smooth, handles, and will cut the curves with the best of them. the strat is my all time favorite, bar none. it fits like a glove, sits low, handles great, has balls out power anywhere you want it, no vibration, and matches my royal star for the two best looking bikes i ever owned. i would think the new strat deluxe decked out would be right at the top with the ultimate tourer. the v-star is going up for sale and i will keep the scoot and strat until it's time to hang it up.
  9. It is that time again. This Saturday (Aug 26) is the annual Saltspring Island Santa Toy Run. Two years ago we had about 40 bikes, last year we had about 80 and raised $2000.00 for underprivileged kids plus a load of toys. This year we are hoping for about 120 bikes. Friday we are setting up the campground at the Farmers Institute on Rainbow road. Camping for the weekend $10.00 per person for the weekend (Fri to Sun). Registration (free) 0900 to 1100 at the institute. Ride starts at 1100 sharp. Lasts about one hour then biker games at the institute, beer garden, food, vendors, etc. Dinner (1700-1900) slow roasted beef and lamb on a spit, dance 1930-????? Dance only $20.00. I will be the fat guy in the red suit. Info at ssitoyrun@gmail.com
  10. I put on a new 404 today on the front---WOW--- what a diff settled down my groove following, handling etc.. However still a slight high speed wobble, and when slowing down if i let go for a sec wobble wobble none of my other bikes have done this.
  11. So we stop for brunch in Hope, BC. This is a major cross-roads from the Vancouver Lower Mainland to the interior and all points north and east. It is a favourite stop for bikers, and there must have been forty bikes in the Home Restaurant parking lot. I was parked in a spot with three other bikes. While finishing the meal, one of the Coast Riders members who was outside rushed in and called to me. A Numpty in a truck had reversed into my bike. "I didn’t see the bike", he said. 40 bikes in the parking lot! Four bikes in the parking spot, and he hit the biggest! He didn't look! He must have walked past the bikes on his way to get into his truck. His tow bar engaged with the front fender, bending it onto the tire. He moved the bike back a foot (you could see the gouge in the pavement), and bent the kick stand, but the bike stayed up, and did not hit any of the others in the spot. We ended up removing the fender, and beat it into some sort of shape so that I could continue the ride. Thanks to another Biker in a truck who had the tools and experience to do that job! I am waiting to hear back from my insurance company, and get the bike FULLY checked out by the dealer... in case he bent something else. He did bend the wind deflector a bit, and scratched the right fork (quarter inch chip in the chrome. Looks minor, but I am concerned. The bike felt fine on the ride, but I am wondering whether there is anything else specific I should be looking for? Here's a [ame=http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=10150963511021784]video[/ame]!
  12. I went to the local Yamaha dealer this morning, to order some parts, because I completely removed the AIS system off of my '06 RSMTD. Went I came out from the showroom, toward my bike, here were two guys standing next to my bike, pawing it, like it was an old girlfriend of theirs. Now, I am very old school...meaning, in this case, I was brought up in an era of motorcycle riding where you did not touch another persons motorcycle, unless the owner of that bike was your # 1 friend in the world, and they asked you to move it or get something off of it. To see these two, older guys, pawing my bike, got my feathers ruffled. Taking a very deep breath, I decided to approach them with a friendly demeanor, rather than be nasty about it. Turns out, after much discussion, that one of them owns an '06 Venture. He did not know what model his bike was...until I told him it was a Venture. He asked me all kinds of questions about why my bike had this, and that, and where was my rear trunk, and why did it say Tour Deluxe on the saddlebag trim. He was totally perplexed about what model my bike was, and when he said he road one that is the same, I asked him several questions about his bike, of which he had no answers. I finally determined he had an '06 Venture, and when I said the word...Venture, his eyes lite up with 15 watt dimness, as if to remember that yes, his bike was a Venture. Geez...you would think that if a guy, he is 67 years old, owns and rides a 2006 Yamaha Venture...he would know what model of bike he has. Okay, I have seen this 1000 times over the past 42 years of riding. There are bike pilots, that know NOTHING about their bikes except how to barely ride it down the road. And then there are the rest of us, that are so intimately familiar with our bikes, and about 99 % of all the bikes on the road, that we have everything memorized down to how many newton meters (NM) torque is used on every bolt of the bike. It just bugs the gorilla snot out of me. Get familiar with your bike. If you won't, then give the bike to someone that does care enough to become familiar with it. So, after fully removing the complete AIS system off of my bike, I then rebalanced the carbs with my handy Carbtune Pro, and the bike runs very nice. Miles
  13. Was looking at this at 7 am there where 3 bikes in front of bobs . http://rapidcityjournal.com/webcams/sturgis-street/ Now look OMG
  14. A friend of mine invited us on a ride to Kerstings Motorcycle Museum in Winimac Indiana. My friend described how he and his brother in law stumbled on this place quite by accident, this trip was designed to end there. Links" http://www.kerstingscycle.com/muse.html http://www.teamchicago.tv/Kersting's%20museum.htm It was a nice ride, if you like bikes, this museum is awesome. No venture in the place but it was awesome seeing some old and unusual bikes.
  15. Anyone have experence with putting on a dampner? These shock type dampners look like a deal for speed wobble if they can be put on a Ist gen. I've had bikes over the years with them, but didn't pay attention how they mounted them. They were factory. Hoss brookdale@brookings.net
  16. I got an email showing that Star Demo Days will be in Sturgis again this year. I read all the way through the list of bikes available to test and noticed no Venture AGAIN........I think you can go to the yamaha website and see the list. Click on news and events on the top header. Then click display and demo schedule. It shows places and lists the bikes available to test ride.
  17. I am new to these venture bikes. I used to be big into the xs bikes. Plain and simple. But these venture bikes caught my eye and decided to buy one. I keep hearing about CLASS and YICS. What is it exactly. I am trying to get the bike running tip top. So far I have taken it up the road and man does it ride way better then my xs did. Much more comfortable. I think it handles better too.
  18. Charlene and I are contemplating getting rid of both bikes, I hate getting rid of the 83, but she doesnt believe she can ride it for any great distance, so we are thinking getting a trike, but I have to settle for having only 1 bike and she thinks she can ride longer and be more comfortable on the trike, the only thing is price. It will likely have to be a nice used one, I dont think I can get more than 7500.00 to 8000.00 for both bikes total. So if anyone sees or knows of one up for sale please let me know. I will be looking at Ebay and CL in the meantime.
  19. Best shot I got of bikes parked in Front of Pioneer Motor Sports. Skipped a little on the panoramic setting, but not bad. I warned you it was large size for those that have a dial up connection. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/DSC00401.jpg
  20. Well it looks like I am going to be sidelined at least 3 months or more so I am thinking I should do some serious maintenance on the bikes. So here is what I am thinking: Do the valve check, both bikes are way over due Check the clutches in both bikes maybe go ahead and upgrade the springs Check and adjust steering head bearings Change and Bleed Clutch and Brakes Flush cooling systems Check all the hoses and rubber Change oil in one just did the other Set the other one up to tow a trailer also Finish the solo mod on the one and paint it Lube everything that should be lubed. Any other ideas?
  21. 2 bikes arrived today, one, another parts bike 85 Venture. The 2nd is a little unusual, but may be a fun project. 1974 Indian branded Moped Something to tinker with. Gary
  22. To go along with Eck's question about blockers, I have a question about group rider spacing. I am not a fan of everyone bunched up real close, but I have been on several group rides that got very strung out, even without any cages mixed in. It has appeared to me that the first three or four bike tends to set the trend, even if there are 30 or more bikes in the group. If the lead bikes run closer, the rest seem to ride closer. I know that when I am riding where there is good scenery, I am not comfortable looking around while in a group. But it also irritates me for the group to get strung out when there is 200 to 300 feet between bikes. I think this also irritates cagers when they would prefer not to pull out into the group, but being so strung out makes them inpatient. When riding 40 to 50 mph on a nice two lane, is there a preference for spacing? RandyA
  23. Hi ALL, New to the site & just gettin' my feet wet. Maybe somebody has experience or knowledge - I'm sure it's been discusssed many times.... Somebackground, I have an 08 RSTD that I bought a year ago (only 6k on it) and have since put 4k on. Love this bike's build quality & ride!! I've owned muscle bikes, dual-sports, c-rockets, standards and I've finally come around to a keeper. No problems at all except the occasional gear whine (?) Not sure I first thought it might be wind noise whistling through the fairing or something. Not a bid deal to me- unless it's an issue for down the road and I ought to have it repaired while under warranty. Any thoughts? About the pipes. I just installed a set of LA Chopper oval bagger slip-on pipes. Sound great!!! I'm getting some backfire on decel. with hard throttle- not so bad under smooth throttle. I've called some local shops & get mixed opinions- most want to install a jet kit (quoted over 600. ?!?) or do a carb air/fuel adjustment. I've even been told jet kits are not available by some shops. I researched and found a jet kit by "Factory Pro" (#CRB-y92-1.0) that is advertised as a drop-in stage 1 kit requiring no drilling of the slides. Sounds good to me....Anybody ever put one of these in or know of them? I ordered it today so I'm going to look for somebody to install. Also, installed K&N filters as well. Any advice or opinions would be great! Ridin' On:cool10: RSTAR08
  24. I've been cleaning the new bike for some days now, completely stripped her down to get to all those little nooks & crannies. This is my 1st Yamaha, I've heard their paint is much thicker than other manufacturers & so far it seems it is true. I've always used Mer on my bikes as it cleans paint & chrome without scratching, but it really doesn't suit this paint & as she's black, the film left behind by it looks terrible. So I gave her a good T-Cut, which should have removed anything on there (pervious owner only used Mer) used Mer again, still had coating of film. So what do you all find best for your bikes??
  25. The 4-wheeler I bought a few weeks ago has some light scratches on it. A few of the worse ones you can feel with a fingernail but most are lighter. What can I buff these out with? I know the plastic is different from our bikes. This thing is in such great shape i would like to make it look like new. It is a Honda Ricon if that makes any difference. I know zilch about them. Question is what to use???
