  1. Got to meet up with Elmicko and his wife Saturday for an absolutely beautiful 70º ride thru the country. Not only was the ride great, but the 2nd gen he just got is stunning with the paint job it has. It has been painted deep blue with blue flames and it is beautiful. Now, I could fall in love with a 2nd gen like that. Wow, did I really say that? Anyway, it was great, even though when I met up with them I had just dropped a cylinder and had to go back to Advance Auto for some spray I used in the jets in the top of the carbs and a can of Sea Foam. Once I did that, I was back to running good again. Mick, ya done real good. RandyA
  2. We've been in Branson since Thursday and decided to take a drive down to Eureka Springs today. Only thing that would have made it better is if I had my bike.
  3. Well we did it again. The harvest this year was early and bountiful. Which left us with a window to get the heck out of here. So on October 7th we packed up the Venture and headed southwest again. The itinerary was to basically see Mesa Verda Nat'l Park , Bryce & Zion Canyons Nat'l Parks. We rode Interstate until we came to Highway 50 in Missouri past St. Louis. From there it was nothing but two lane blacktop. We made stops at Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Mon., The Strater Hotel at Durango, Colorado {had to have a drink at the Diamond Belle saloon} cool place felt like the Earps could walk in anytime, Natural Bridges Nat'l Mon., Capital Reef Nat'l Park, Bryce Canyon Nat'l Park, Zion Nat'l Park, Standin on the corner at Winslow Arizona, Valley of Fires Nat'l Rec Area, Roswell, New Mexico from there to Amarillo, Texas to I-40 then interstates back home. The weather was beautiful. In the mornings it was alittle cool but by 9:00 or 10:00 it warmed up fine. Before the trip I had bought the wife a Tourmaster heated coat and myself a Tourmaster heated vest. Her coats control unit failed after the second use of it so I gave her mine which she used off and on for the rest of the trip. I never needed my vest anyway. Since I have been home I have recieved another control unit for the failed one plus bought another one for a spare. I have heard that the aspen trees are beautiful in the fall. Let me tell you that this fact is true. They were a very bright gold. This made for some breathtaking visas with the green and gold against the mountainsides. We only rode in the rain once and that wasn't a hard rain. It was when we were making the first ascent into the Rockies in Colorado. The rain stopped after we were through the pass. The wife took 724 pictures. I will only post a few as pictures do not do the beauty and splendor of the west justice. The Venture ran like a Swiss watch. Burned up roughly over $300.00 of gas and a 1/2 qt of oil. Total miles 4577 in 15 days but right now it just seems like a dream.
  4. just some info for those that are planning on attending the meet. the host motel is in the park and looks very nice and is very secluded in the woods. rooms are still available so make reservations as soon as possible. reservation phone no. is, 1-888-637-2632. the park website is www.meramecpark.com/ . i have some awesome rides planned. the sightseeing, and activities in this area are endless. plenty of restaurants and a nice one at the gift shop in the park. the park is 3 mi. off i-44 at sullivan missouri. we will take a beautiful ride one day to visit the whineries in historic herman, mo.. the weather this time of the year should be perfect for riding. hope to see some of you folks there. bill
  5. Charlene and I went for a day out today, packed a picnic lunch and went to FDR State Park, in Pine Mtn.,Ga. The weather was beautiful and the roads were very uncluttered. We picniced on Dowdell Knob, which is where FDR used to love to picnic, it was his favorite spot in the park. The view was beautiful and there were only a few people there. We took a few pics of the area and went on our way riding around the park, we came across a strange building on a side road, but we couldnt tell if it was a private residence or old church, it had an iron 7 foot tall spiked fence around it and had peacocks all over the place. We really couldnt tell what it was used for. After leaving there we headed back to Newnan for some desert at the local DQ.............then disaster struck...................DQ was closed........we were devastated, we were talking about it all the way back and it just ended our perfect day not so perfectly................. The only down side to the trip was that we did it in a 4 wheeled vehcile and not on the bike........but it still was great to get Charlene out to do something with all she has been through, many more of these types of weekends to come..................
  6. I would like to personally thank Dennis and Valerie Traynor for being the host of the Central Ky Memorial Weekend ride that myself and a bunch of other nice people I met attended. They were gracious to open up their beautiful home and feed a diverse group with a common love for riding motorcycles on Friday with two more wonderful days of riding and some of the most beautiful countryside to be seen. With this event even larger than last year, It is my hope that they continue to do this for all the fun that was had. If not, then it has been an honor and a privilege to meet these two wonderful people. The routes planned were great and the eateries that we attended were awesome. Again, Thanks form this big `ol Ky. boy from Catlettsburg. Harry Caines (a4pumper).
  7. Anybody within 2 or 3 hour ride from Columbia, SC want to get together for lunch Saturday? The weather will be beautiful and I just want to ride somewhere, anywhere. I'll even buy lunch! So, any takers? PM me if you like. Dave
  8. I found out about this story when I was in Utah for my Moms funeral. The guy scammed a lot of people and is getting everything that he deserves. BUT can you imagine owning all these cars. By the way, there is a venture there so it is related (sort-of) I really like the classic cars, but there are some beautiful bikes and the first gen looks like it is in good shape too. Anyone have some serious cash to spend on some new toys? Go to the pictures next to the story. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=10046613
  9. Hi guys, my buddy and I are "venturing" out early this season, at the latter part of May to hit Rolling Thunder in Washington DC with our MC and from there we're booting it down to the Florida Keys and then back up and around through the top north east corner of Texas and back up through the middle back home.. we're taking roughly 3 weeks to do all this, to see as much as possible and hit as many states as possible.. 28 in all. Starting from Halifax NS, entering the USA through Maine, we just want to hit the slabs and get some miles under our wheels. (love the highway riding..) This is the link to the map lines we're planning on doing in order to loop around and hit as many states as possible (600k file) http://www.eastcoastphotos.com/venture/usa-trip-a.jpg Obviously the red line makes no consideration to any actual highways along the way but mostly just shows the intended path we plan to take in order to get us through the areas to hit each state, even if it's just a corner chunk of it.. Has anyone done anything similar to this that might be able to point of a few features or areas we should see along this route? We won't have time to hit every beautiful back road there is out there but would like to hit the most popular ones like the Dragon's Tail etc.. We'll be hoping to run into as many friends as possible along the way.. we still owe Sky Doc and his beautiful missus another Rib Dinner =) And hope to be able to meet up with other Venture enthusiasts.. If you have any info or recommendations for sights to see, things to do, stuff to be aware of.. etc etc.. it would be much appreciated.. I did over 35,000 miles on the bike last summer.. I think I might try to surpass it this year.. because in 2011, I plan to do up the other 20 states I haven't visited on a bike.. (already did Hawaii and Alaska on a bike =) Thanks in advance folks =)
  10. Hey folks. Just wanted to show off my (only) daughter and her new husband - not that she has an old one. Married in Tasmania 3 weeks ago today. Of course good ol' Dad is asked to do the photos - again. That's all 3 kids married off now. Isn't she beautiful? (Proud and biased Dad!!)
  11. It's cold, it's snowy, so what to do? Well, I ride anyway. Only did 30 miles but it was a beautiful day out. Warm or cold, sun or rain. Gotta get out and enjoy the planet.
  12. You got to read this to believe it...............Only made one year......yep he is right the 83 was only made one year, then the 84 and so on and so on..............beautiful bike but way too much money............. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Yamaha-VENTURE-XVZ12-TOURER-V4-Motor-RARE_W0QQitemZ170415783197QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item27ad927d1d#v4-33
  13. Beautiful day in the Ohio Valley off to meet some friends to get in one more ride.
  14. Weather is supposed to be beautiful Sunday with temps in the low 80's so were heasding to Tampa (Brandon) for a nice Sunday ride to see mom in law. (Ok so there has to be a hitch somewhere, right? ) So if you see an absolutely drop dead beautiful 99 silver RSV with an equally stunning driver STOP HIM...he stole my bike.....
  15. I woke up this morning to sunshine just coming up, but within an hour it was gray and gloomy again. I ended up taking a morning nap and again the sun popped out, so I took a ride. I took off toward Knoxville, which is about 100 miles away, on old Highway 11. This is kind of like Route 66 in this is the road you would have traveled if you were going from New York to Birmingham and beyond. It parallels several diferent interstates. Some of it has been moved and four laned, but there are still stretches of two lanes with old stores and motels along the way. After going thru Knoxville, I looped into Townsend and then to Gatlinburg on the narrow two lane thru the mountains. With the rain we have had lately, there was a lot of whitewater flowing. I went thru Gatlinburg and then hit the Foothills Parkway near Cosby over to I-40 and then home. It was a beautiful 260 mile ride and definately lifted my spirits. My 1st fillup at @$2.16 at a Shell station was almost 47 mpg. Here are a few pictures to show what a beautiful day it was. The third picture of the house is zoomed in and the forth picture is the same shot not zoomed. That is what call being off the beaten path. RandyA
  16. has anyone tried or had success in getting the trunk to stop rattling all over the place? such a beautiful machine, quiet, smooth, and the dang trunk sounds like it belongs on a tonka truck.
  17. Yesterday my #1 son, Matt, was married to his long time sweetheart Valerie. It was a beautiful wedding and a beautiful day for it. His old dad has never been more happy. pic #1 & 2 Matt & Val pic #3 Me & Mary pic #4 Jeff & my nieces
  18. Somebody should jump all over this baby. What a beautiful bike, and a color-matched trailer too. Cheap! If I didn't already have an RSV...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-XVZ13-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem4399c84a00QQitemZ290342849024QQptZUSQ5fmotorcycles#ht_734wt_1165
  19. Since it's Friday and all of you sluff off at work today give me your opinion...would ya? Gary and I were awestruck during our trip this summer to the Canadian Rockies, Glacier and Beartooth Pass. It was so beautiful that it was breathtaking. For those of you who have a lot of your states colored in on your maps, this question is for you....where do you think the most beautiful area to ride is? I'm not talking a twistie road (Tail of Dragon, etc) but an area or state as a whole. Just trying to add to the bucket list and I can't believe there is any place that can beat the scenery we say this summer. Oh yeah....is the Redwood Forest worth riding from nowwhere land all the way out to California?
  20. Well I rolled in about 2:30 yesterday afternoon after seeing folks at the Hub Wed and Thurs and my brief stay Thursday night in Eureka Springs. I would have got home earlier but at one of my gas stops two teenagers had locked their keys in the car and the cops wouldn't help because the car was in their parents name??? Go figure. So I spent awhile and finally jimmied it open. They were very appreciative. It was sure was great to see folks at the Hub. Made me wish I had been there all week. A big thank you to Ray (colesgranpa) for leading the ride Thursday with Swifty (sorry if I held you back ), Dan and Snarley It sure was beautiful, except for Bill HE IS NOT BEAUTIFUL It sure is nice to be a part of such a great group. Jay
