  1. You may notice that I have been doing some work on the menu bars at the top of the page. The lower menu bar was getting pretty crowded while the upper bar was almost empty so I've moved some things around. So...if you think something is missing, just look around a bit and you should find it. For example, the link to the chat room is now in the upper menu bar on the right side beside the donate button. Really...I just did it to keep you all confused.
  2. The wide grip bars are playing hell on my neck. Does anyone have any recomendations for a narrower set of bars that won't affect performance? I was wondering if a set of Venture bars would work? Any ideas?
  3. I've noticed that my bars are tad bent probably from the PO. I'm going to swap the inner fairing since mine has some cracks and figure this would be the best time to do the bars as well. If you've got one you don't need, could you let me know?
  4. For those of you who use the Mellow Yellow theme, just wanted to let you know that I do realize that it's a bit messed up right now. Double menu bars at the top are missing and the buttons and etc. are not correct for the theme. The reason is that I had to update the templates to solve a "security token" issue. I had to do it on all the themes but that is the only one that requires different settings and etc. for the buttons and etc. It will work fine as is and I will finish with the menu bars, graphics and etc. later this evening or tomorrow morning. Thank you for your patience.
  5. Ok, so I was polishing the bike the other day when I come across a big crack in the lower fairing. It looks like a rock hit it. I am not a fan of the lower fairing as it keeps way too much of the engine heat on my legs and (in my opinion) looks out of place on the bike. My question is this: has anyone removed the fairing and replaced it with some beefier crash bars? I know that the air boxes and cruise controll are in them, but I really would like to remove them and I don't mind doing some modifications. I also think that those flimsy little crash bars that are there now will not do much good. Any thoughts are welcome.
  6. THESE HAVE BEEN SOLD ALREADY. Thanks to everyone that responded so quickly. I have replaced my stock bars with Flandes bars. I now have a set of Barons' 1 1/2 inch risers for sale. I will take $50 U.S, shipped to the lower 48. Send me a PM and I will provide the address to send a check or money order.( I dont have a Pay Pal account.) Thanks
  7. I'm in the process of changing to the Flanders bars. Last night I took the faring, windshield, seat and gas tank off. I plan on taking everything off the old bars tonight. I have new grips and cables. I have never replaced the grips, bars or cables on a bike before and am looking for advice inspiration and insight. There is a good procedure on another site, but it talks about drilling holes in the flanders bars, and I keep thinking what holes. Any advise or help is appreciated.
  8. Ok, I just finished lowering the front end 1". Took about 6 hours because of the big thunderstorm that came through and knocking out the lights. Anyhow got it all back together and noticed that the air valves for the two front cylinders are up against the handle bars and there is no way that I can put air in the front end without removing the handle bars. Any suggestions, or did I not get it back together correctly. I really don't want to take it all apart again. Thanks. John:confused24:
  9. I have barons risers on my bike, but feel I need a little more. Will Fanders bars make a bigger difference?
  10. has anyone ever put on bars ,like mini apes, drag bars, or anything like that
  11. just installed a BF GOODRICH 155/80/15 on my kaw voyager,OEM tire 150/90/15,same tire as your 2 gens, have plenty of room, will give it test run to day,the dunlop 404 only had 9000 mils on it,wear bars showing, the tire before was an avon 18000 on it now the buckett of worms is open
  12. I'm using stock bars with 1 1/2 risers right now. I'm thinking about trying the RSTD stock bars with no risers. I decided to brave the weather and see how the RSTD bars would fit. It was a brutal 75 degrees with a 10 mph wind from the south, but I know you folks wanted to know. I put on shorts, sunscreen and a cap and got started. First thing I looked at was how the bar end weights attached. Not even close. If I'm going to use these bars, I'll need RSTD weights. Anyone have a good picture of what the RSTD weights look like on the bike? I only took two measurements for position comparison. I measured perpendicular from the top of the pivot point on the shifter to the center of the bar at that point. About 30 inches. I measured from the widest point on the fairing to the center of the bar end (not the weight). About 8.5 inches. With the RSTD bars, the first measurement remained about 30 inches. The other measurement was now about 9 inches. I was a little surprised that they didn't pull back a little more, but that is a 1/2" more than with the 1 1/2" risers. First thing I noticed with the RSTD bars in place was the open center space. The bars passed to the outside of the speakers. I think I like that. One drawback for some is that I'm not sure the cigarette lighter type power point will be easily accessable. I have never used mine so not a problem. The throttle cable looks like it will need replacing. The risers have it stretched pretty tight in a full right turn. The clutch and upper brake look like they might work stock, but I think to be safe, I'll go a little longer. I expect the same cables and hoses used for the Flanders conversion would work here also. No way to judge comfort or picking up more wind on the hands due to the width until I actually do it and ride some. I'm sure I'll end up doing this, but it may be a few weeks. I have some other stuff I want to look into before I get started. One other thing you might have noticed in the attachments. The larger mirrors. I always hated the view from the stock mirrors. They may look good on the bike, but I couldn't see enough in them. These are about perfect for me. My only complaint is they are easy to move. I haven't had riding affect them yet, but it doesn't take much to move them. I like to hang my helmet on the right mirror and I usually end up needing to readjusting it. Time will tell how well they hold up, but for $25 + $13 shipping, I'm happy. Here is a link to a set he has for sale and a link to his store.
  13. Hell Friends. Well I finally got home Thursday morning after being gone working for 38 days. After a short nap I took my paperwork to the courthouse and got the Black Beast relicensed.( I had to apply for a rebuild title). I slapped the license plate on, fired her off and went for a 3 hr cruise. Boy did it feel GOOOOOOD to be back on her. As good a bike as the Nomad is it just doesn't compare to a RSV. A couple of the changes that I made that I was wondering about were the handle bars and the front fork springs. I put a set of Flander's bars on and man what a difference. I had the 1 1/2 inch Baron's risers on but these bars are so much better there is no comparison. This should be the bars that Yamaha uses as stock. I cant wait il I can go on an all day run to see how good I will feel. The fork springs were changed out for a set of firmer springs from Sonic Springs. Since I am an agressive rider I wanted a little firmer front fork. I also changed out the fork oil to 10 w oil. Boy did I get a firmer front end. I drove hard down into a couple of corners just to see what would happen when I laid on the front brake. It was amazing. The bike did not try to stand up at all. And the ride??? With 6 lbs of air in the front shocks, I did add a air balance kit also, it rode as smooth and soft as it did when it was new. I took out the rear lowering links and went back to stock when I changed out the rear brake line. I'm not totally happy with the way it sits so I am going to make a set of links that are half way between stock and the Baron's set. When I rode 2 up the mufflers would drag way too much to suit me. I even pumped the air up to 65 psi on the rear shock but it didn't seem to help. I will let ya'll know how that works out. In my rush to get back on the road I have not cleaned her up good yet. As soon as I can get it cleaned and waxed I will post some pics of her. She looks as good as new.
  14. Hi Guys and Gals: I found a chrome bumper with lots of lights on eBay and purchased it. So far I think it is pretty good and is cleaning up nice. I have one problem though. There are two "U" bolts that I need for installing this thing. They go around the saddle bag roll bars and hold up the front of the bumper. I believe the originals are chrome and flattened on top. Does anyone have these animals or know where I could find something like this? Wayne
  15. Does anybody know where to get the lens on the aftermarket light bars alot of first gens have
  16. I don't see anything on the Barons Star bars w/risers? Anyone care to give me a rundown?
  17. I'm rebuilding the Black Beast from the accident I had in November. While I have it down I am doing several mods. I will talk about those in another thread and reserve this one for the bar end weights. I wanted to keep the bar end weights to reduce vibration and have a place to rest my hand while I was using the cruise control. Once I got the handle bars stripped down here is what I came up with. The threaded plugs that the weights screw into are welded in with just a spot weld on the bottom side of the bar. I went out to my brother-in-law's shop and ground the weld out. (Since the stock bars were ruined I didn't get real creative about saving them). If you want to save the stock bars it would be easy to grind just the weld, then reweld the plugs back in later. I marked the new bars so I could drill a 3/8" hole in them to weld the plugs back in. Then I had my brother-in-law spot weld the plugs in. Now this is important. DONT PICK THE BAR UP BY THE HANDLE. IT'S HOT!!!!!! (Yeah I know. I knew better. But since the brain surgery in January my short term memory seems to be shot:whistling:.) I now have a set of Flander's bars with the option to use the bar weights or not. All it cost me was 30 minutes of my brother-in-law laughing at me cause I burnt my hand. The things we suffer through to ride:confused24:. I hope this can be of use to someone out there. Ride safe.
  18. Hey if you have a buddy in law enforcement the bulbs out of the stobe lights in a police car are much brighter. Check the light bars that have been damaged or are old, see if you can get the bulbs. I used them they really make a big difference in turn lights. You also can order them from souther police supply, Galls and also check with Fire and Rescue they use the same light bars just different covers. Scott
  19. A biker was sitting on his bike at the zoo just watching the animals. Suddenly there were loud screams, a lion had reached through the bars and grabbed a little girl and was trying to pull her into the cage. The biker ran up and punched the lion as hard as he could right on its nose. The lion howled and let go of the little girl who was quickly pulled to safety by her family. A reporter was nearby and saw the whole thing. He went up to the biker and said " Wow that was incredibly brave." The biker replied " not realy, the lion was behind the bars and I just jumped off my bike and reacted" The reporter said "Watch the paper tomorrow I am going to report this" The next day the biker picked up a paper. The headline read... "Biker attacks African immigrant and steals his lunch!":rotf:

  22. Folks, There's been lots of dialog about front-end wobble, but I have a peculiar variant which happens under very hard braking. As in "I think I'm going to hit this car and die" hard braking. It happened to me in November on the Interstate when traffic came screeching to a halt and I obviously wasn't looking ahead very attentively, and then last night at maybe 60 mph somebody pulled out RIGHT in front of me. Thanks to God that I didn't hit anything either time, or fall over with the wobble. In both cases, while on the brakes hard, I think I felt the front tire partially lock, and the front wheel and handlebars went into a violent wobble that was very difficult to control despite my death-grip on the bars. Last night, being the second time, it occured to me as I was braking that the front end would go crazy. I want to be clear that this is NOT a whole-bike weave, but a front-end wobble; I've felt both in the past. A little history if you're interested. I got my 87 with 45,000 miles on it and a lot of deferred maintenance. It exhibited a strong tendency toward the wobble at mid-speeds (30-45), but ONLY if I removed my hands from the bars. Light hand pressure always damped it out. It also had a touch of the high-speed whole-bike weave. Over the last 1.5 years I've done the following: -New tires - 38psi F, 40psi R -Progressive fork springs and rear shock unit -Greased and checked rear swingarm and linkage -Inspected, cleaned, packed and adjusted steering head bearings. I've tried a couple different preloads from the factory light setting to something a little tighter - no difference. -Checked wheel bearings. -Installed Superbrace Through all this the whole-bike-weave has diminished; what remains is minimal, self-damping and I'm convinced it's normal in a full-dress bike. The wobble is mostly gone, with the single biggest factor being the new front tire (which has been the case in the past for me on other bikes). I can remove my hands at mid-speeds and it doesn't automatically start wobbling as before. However, even now it only takes the slightest provocation to start one. If I hit a little rock with the front wheel, or tap one of the grips with my hand, it will start. The braking wobble feels like the regular front-end wobble, but the big difference is that it wobbles with my hands tight on the bars which it normally won't do. The wobble has one other manifestation. When doing u-turn excercises (from the MSF experienced class), at low speed with the wheel at or near lock, I feel a bit of that wobble even though my hands are firmly on the bars. I am sure these are all related; different manifestations of the same condition: 1) Mid speeds in a straight line, hands off bars, slight bump in road or tap on handlebars. 2) Higher speeds, hard on brakes, straight line, death grip on bars. 3) Low-speeds, tight u-turn, hands firmly on bars. Anybody else had these experiences? How'd ya fix it? Jeremy
  23. I cannot seem to find any postings that show the size and type of Avon Venoms for an '07 RSV. I want to put these on the bikes at the same time I have the Baron Bars and the Rivco LED lights installed. Appreciate any help.

I got a Microsoft Zune for Christmas but I'm going to have to send it back because it can't handle the vibration. I looking for suggestions on a new one. I would like at least 8GB, an FM tuner (an Ipod's out) and it needs to be big enough to mount on the bars in my ram mount. What's everyone using now? Anyone have one of the Sansa views?
  25. I'm new to this site, but to riding ( 30 + yrs). In April ' 07 I purchased a new '07 Venture. After today I still have less than 5,000 miles on it. I've begin to notice a little unsteadyness in the front end lately. This may be hard to explain exactly what I'm talking about, but I'll try; I've checked tire pressure and its OK. There is also zero pressure in both forks. When riding the bike and going into a curve (lean) I noticed that the front end feels ( scince I can't think of any other word ) wobbely, however the bike maintains complete stability when I let go the bars ( on the straight-a-ways of corse ). When I got home I checked the front end by shaking it back and forth. It seems to feel that the front forks are some what like noodles and that the wheel is lagging behind the handle bars. I've checked thr steering as best I could and there are no signs of any loose parts. I'll recheck the tire pressure again, but if anyone else has experienced this problem and there is a fix, please let me know.
