1. I had mentioned I bought a nice old Harley davidson, light bar, from an 1985 Police bike. after reviewing the HOW-TO on this site. I started the project. 45 minutes later, they red light bar was done, works great. I now have 4 brake lights on back. now if I only had a camera that worked....
2. I got me some wizzard lightes for the bike but they didnt come with any directions on the best places to put, were is everyone putting theres at? I also got some driving lights that mount on the crash bar but they were out of the mounts for the crash bar at the show and they told me they are 25 from the dealer does any one know what I need to get here?? Thanks
3. I made a guage plate at work. Designed it at home using Cimatron E8.5 design software. Programmed it at work using WorkNc 17. I matched the contour of the dash and also the recess that was below the tape deck door. Came out pretty nice. I am going to polish it and probably have it anodized dark blue to match the Galaxy Blue of the bike. I am also adding a tach to the right handle bar. I have it designed, just waiting for a machine to open up to cut the housing and clamp. I will post pics as the project progresses.
4. Trying to show pics, guess I'm not smart enough to import them. I'll keep working on it. Anyway the 2007 RSV is now in my garage! Accessories are: light bar, radiator grill, saddle bag rails, trunk rack, and LED light bar under the trunk. Sure is nice. Next door neighbor thought it was brand new.
5. Hi everyone I am looking for some advice and ideas. I would like to upgrade the sterio and speakers on my Venture. I have read some threads and I would like any or all opinions on what to do. I have XM and GPS mounted on the handle bar and hardwired. I would like any ideas you may have .Thank you very much. PS looking to do a lot changes this spring.
6. My light bar will be the death of me.. 6 month after getting the bike the bar got loose and I could tighten it but man what a pain in the patootie to access those bolts properly etc.. Earlier this summer I stopped at a Yammy shop in Maine to get my shock replaced under warranty and they were kind enough to fix a wiring problem I had in the front.. but in the process they took the bar off, but appears it didn't get installed properly as I've been having to re-tighten it all the time and it never seemed to really tighten.. When I put the bike up on jack recently to do some winter maintenance on it, I noticed how very loose the bar actually is and that one bolt is completely loose.. It won't tighten yet it won't come out. I'll have to pull the whole front fairing off to access it properly but alas, I can't pull the fairing off if I can't get that bolt out to move the lights out of the way.. what the heck?! So the big question is: what part of the triple tree are these bolts actually threaded into? It always seemed that if I didn't get the bolt started at just the perfect angle they would simply turn and turn and turn but never tighten, then angle it a bit and boom it would tighten.. It seems there is something amiss other than a stripped bolt or dead threads back in there and I can't see well enough back in there to determine what the heck is going on. the two local Yami shops can't even figure out what bolts I need to order to replace the existing ones as apparently these bolts magically "poof" appear whenever they need to install a light bar.. Can anyone toss in some insight to this problem or even be able to help me acquiring new bolts for this issue? I purchased the extension block which move your light bar ahead enough to permit your fairing removal without taking down the light bar but once again I had issues installing this block because of that acute angle of the bolt issues.. I could never get that block to tighten up properly.. A most frustrating situation.. sigh... Almost to the point of ripping the whole dang thing off and buck-sheeing signal lights up to the fairing and adding highway lamps to the forks.. at least they won't come loose after a few hours of riding.. help!
7. Sweet, after a year of loose light bar issues and frustrations with vibes, cut wires and what ever else, the job is done and doods, if *I* can do it, anyone else can lol.. if your bolt hole threads in the lower triple tree clamp are munged or stripped, this is the fix for you.. Or even if you're sick and tired of not ever being able to get them frikken bolts in proper, this would be a good fix as well.. I have tried to find the link or threads of this aluminium block adapter that mounts your highway light bar ahead of your fairing so that you'll never ever have to remove your light bar to take off the front fairing.. if someone can find it, please advise.. this is an awesome adapter. I had never been before able to make it work for various reasons and now I know why.. nothing wrong with the adapter, it's AWESOME but my bike, for what ever reason, always rejected the adapter or proper installation of the light bar.. Me being the 3rd owner of this magnificent bike, I'm finding a lot of previously buckshee maintenance done to the bike causing me problems.. Now that I have my heated garage for the winter, boom, time to fix it all up proper.. and the light bar is my first victim.. mou'aha.. The main ingredient was to use a 2 inch 7/16th bolt with washer and lock nut (nylon insert) or what ever you feel safe with.. As you'll notice, in the photo, I had to nibble away at the shroud with a dremel tool to make tool alignment easier. These are the bolts passing through the triple tree clamp.. The bolts mounting the light bar are now Loktite and have a lock washer as well.. (if I ever have to remove this again for what ever reason, I'll have found proper sized washed to put under the bolt heads in the recess, but couldn't find them around here).. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/mount001.jpg The shot below is taken from the floor looking up in front of the radiator. The brake line splitter is removed as is the half moon mud flap (2 bolts each). You'll want to remove these for easier and better access to the nuts. As you can see, the threaded portion of the triple tree clamp where your highway lamp attachment bolts bolt into isn't all that thick after all.. so the 2 inch bolt used here leaves enough thread showing for safety (min 3 threads etc).. When you're torquing down the bolts, you'll want to be very careful and ensure your wiring isn't being pinched or caught in behind the adapter block.. I have mine laying across the top and out to the left side (kick stand side) of the block. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/mount002.jpg Photo below shows why I thought it best to nibble away at the shroud for better access to the bolt head. I used a thin walled 7/16 deep socket to turn the bolt head to get the nut started. However, when the nut tightens up against the washer, its best to turn the nut, and not the bolt to avoid damaging the adapter.. There is sufficient 'bolt head size' to take up the hole without a washer.. but if you're able to fit a washer down that recessed hole, the better. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/mount003.jpg Below is the hardware I used.. go for high tensile steel if you're going to torque onto these puppies.. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/bolt.jpg Below is where a lot of my problems with wiring happened, the wiring would basically drop down into the fork stops and be guillotined causing shorts, failures and freaking annoyances like you wouldn't believe.. I had used a zip tie to hold this bundle up and away from the fork stops but they eventually fell into them again something got nicked.. Now that the bike is sitting high and pretty on the jack adapter, I'll be able to do properly tuck these bad boys away for good.. http://www.myvstar.ca/venture06/wires-cut.jpg So there ya go.. the hardest part of all this was finding out what proper sized bolt I should be using.. originally I had started with a 2.5 inch bolt but the shank was too long so the 2 inch bolt was perfect.. It will be a while before I can test ride this set up properly but I think this is the permanent fix for my bike.. no more BS with munged threads etc.. never more having to drop the light bar to remove the fairing.. Ahhh nice.. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free..
8. what size is the crash bar and what size highway pegs will fit it.
9. Just out of curiosity... How many people in here might not like it if a restaurant put alcohol in or on your food without your knowledge? I know mos,t if not all the alcohol, would evaporate. But there would still be the flavor left behind. I'm just concerned about the alcoholics who might not want it. I know some who won't even have an N/A beer because there is still about .05% alcohol in it. And there is also some who feel that if they got a taste of it in their food might fear a relapse. Does anybody agree with my assumptions? The reason I ask is because a friend of mine just opened a Bar & Grill a couple weeks ago and one of the cooks insists on putting beer on the burgers and using it to saute the fried onions and such. I love beer... with my burger, but not on it. Thanks for any input, Bill
10. last night or early this morning i should say. a young man was driking at the local bar about a half a block. from my place. he left the bar against his friends whishes to take a cab. took off on his harley . must have hit a speed of 60mph. he side swiped 6 cars takeing off the drivers mirrors on all of them. i was the last one he hit. he suffered. a broken shoulder. faceal lacerations. not to mention. a dui. reckless driving.. total damages to the cars are over 3 grand. his bike was impounded. he has no valid motorcycle endorsement. and no insurance on the bike. so please think before you drink and get on your bike. it aint worth it. to think you can make it home
11. A few members were asking about crash bar bottle holders (like HD make) and CMike even contacted Troy (a member) about it, only to find he had to have surgery! I have emailed Prozak and he is fine now, after having his gall bladder removed. He would be happy to make these holders for VR members BUT he doesn't have crash bars on his bike!! If someone here could send him a rear crash bar so that he could get measurements that would be a great help. His email is: troy@scustomleather.com He made a special tank bra for me, and has done work for other members too..............CAN ANYONE HELP OUT????????
12. I laid the bike down in Aug. of last year and messed it up in the front pretty badly. Got that all fixed and thought all was good. Yesterday did some maint., oil change, rear end oil change, etc. Took the left saddle bag off to get to the rear end fill cap, all was good other than rusted bolts that broke off, or so I thought. Went to put saddle bag back on and nothing lines up. Got to looking and when I laid bike down the saddle bag crash bar was pushed back and in towards main frame. Any one have any ideas on how to straighten saddle bag crash bar so I can get bag back on. I have thought about getting a couple of chains and putting a chain from the mounted hitch to my pick up and hooking up the other chain to the crash bar and my wife's mini van then using a ratchet chain binder to tighten the chain and hopefully pull the crash bar back into position. Sound doable, or completely out to lunch?? Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated. Don H.
13. Are these still available out there somewhere????
14. I am ordering items for my winter projects and need some help. I have read the threads involving passing lamps and understand how to install, but here is where my dumbness comes in. I have an 06 beautiful black tour deluxe with a straight light bar which the turn signals connect horizontal at the ends. I want to add passing lamps but am confused. Every site I look at to order the lights and mounts show a curved light bar. Do I have to purchase this light bar? or do they make lights for the straight one? If so, do the passing lights come with the turn signals that hang underneath or am I suppose to do something with the stock ones. I just want to buy something and can't figure this out. It looks to me like the turn signals that are on the ends now would come out and the passing lights would go in there place, but I don't know. Really need help in buying. I just bought kromewerks slip on and want to buy all the lights, including Led for the rear, and possibly engine lights and want to have everything so I can do all the electric at one time with taking the saddlebags and gas tank off. I appreciate any help. Thanks Walt:bang head:
15. I'm totally frustrated with the highlight bar on this bike.. I'm not sure what the issue is but I can never get it fully tight on, and half the time it is as if you missed the treads altogether, but it will hold the bar up for a while but loosen right off.. if the bolts don't go in at JUST the right angle, you can turn and turn all you want, it won't tighten up more.. And once you do get it right, there's really no simple method to get a tool in there to tighten it up enough not to cause it to flop in the wind or come loose again.. So my first winter project is to rip the dang thing off and go for an alternate route. I want to have 'something' up front for better illumination and better 'notice me' detection from cagers.. I don't have the original signal light bar since I'm not the original owner of the bike but I still have my V-Star signal light bar and though I haven't tried it yet, I think it could be used since both bikes do have similar parts.. can anyone confirm this? If such is the case, then I would need to find an alternative highway light setup, big enough blob of light to be noticed, light enough not to be bouncing thus causing vibrations and so on.. What are my alternatives? What do you have that's not OEM etc? Thanks M8
16. Okay, I did find the Flanders Bar installation on the Ventures web site. These instructions looked pretty good, but ?? No where in the instructions did it say what to do with nipple on the box housing the cruise control and throttle grip. Looked at the original handle bar and there was a hole for the nipple. So for those of you that swapped bars, did you drill a hole in the Flanders Bar or file off the nipple of the housing? I drilled the hole. Not done with the install, but will finish tomorrow.
17. What fun plans do you have for the weekend? We will be missing Pork n the Pines, but for a good reason. We normally do a lot of riding with our 3 sons, but this summer has been so busy we haven't gotten to at all, so..... We are all heading east of the river (Mighty Mississipi) to the Kickapoo area to hit the following: Vernon Vineyards Bad Axe area Rockton (famous bbq chicken) Wild Cat Mountain State Park Bull's Den Bar (crazy barn out in the middle of nowhere turned into a fun bar Cheese Curds !!!! and staying at Soldiers Grove, WI at a place that has the best Bourbon Pork Tenders and generally riding back roads! Can't wait!!! So what are you doing?
18. i was making a right hand turn out of the driveway & for some strange reason, i could not turn tight enough and wound up on the other side of the road in the ditch. Pictures below. our driveway is asphalt & our road is gravel. this turn is always tough for me as i feel if i turn to tight, i will loose the front end to gravel slide. since i was in a turning position, i was in line with the ditch. i was able to get the front tire back on the road, but when the rear came up, the bike fell over on the left. i had messed up the lower cowling and the engine guard/crash bar was bent upwards cramming the highway peg against the floorboard which caught the gear shift. no room to lift the bike using the technique learned and used before as i had to stand in the ditch to lift. i had got my truck & was in the process of hooking up ratchet straps to assist me in lifting the bike when a neighbor came home & gave me a hand. what a pain. anyway i have the busted side of the bike taken apart. My question is - can i heat & straighten the bar ends that are bent, or should i replace them with used/new bars. i checked our classifieds & ebay, but nothing listed. If replacing is the better option, does someone have a left crash bar for sale that is not listed? i am over being embarrassed with myslef & Debbie came home for lunch & I told her, so I have bases covered. Dale in Louisiana p.s. - this really put us out of making the M & E in Biloxi, Ms.
19. Or for anyone in the know. The wife and I will be in Bar Harbor on Sunday 8/16. Our goal is to get on the ferry in Bar Harbor and head to Nova Scotia the next day. Anyone know if I need to buy tickets ahead of time or just wait and buy them there? We will be on the RSV. Any other advice for that area regarding the ferry would also be welcomed.
20. Looking for some help. The front light bar, stopped working. Switch? wiring? in the fairing? Any suggestions on a best place to start looking? Where do I find the fuses in the bike? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

So what do you all think ? is white my color ? Thom the pic's got out of sink on the upload - brown , silver , blue and leather , finally white
22. I finished my Garmin install and took some time to upgrade my rear lighting. I did the L.E.D. upgrade to my trunk lights last year. They work great but tend to wash out in full sunlight. I liked the undermount bar that many folks are installing on the 2nd Generation bikes. So, how to get that 15" bar under my trunk? The answer, remove the helmet locks and put an aluminum bar in their place. I countersunk places for the original screws and then mounted the light bar over top of them. On the ends of the aluminum bar I reinstalled the helmet locks. Tapped all of the holes and applied some blue locktite. Now, I have a bright running/brake light unit just above the tail light. It looks like it blocks the original unit, but I can remove the lens to change the bulbs with the bar in place. JB
23. First off, it seems very strange to be into the 2nd gen tech section!! Any way, I am loking for a good deal on a light bar. Where should I look?? What kind of lights option do I have?? Where should I tie the power from?? Questions, questions...
24. Hello all, Is any one able to give me a quick fix or tell what button I have pushed to have lost the New Posts link button on the tool bar for this site. When I log in now as of about 5 days ago, I lost the New Posts link button and the forum of active threads just appears when logging in, instead. Thanks for any help
25. Does anyone have some pictures of what the R-Mark Light Bar looks like? I know what it looks like mounted, I'm looking the the part you can't see once it's mounted. I'm interestd in how it mounts and how the LEDs are mounted onto whatever it is that is screwed onto the bike. Thanks.
