  1. The light bar on the trunk has a burned out turn signal and only one tail/running light that works. Last night I removed the three screws inside the trunk but the bar did not budge. If I recall correctly this light bar does require heating to release the glue to separate the lens from the base but before I break something, should the light bar come off the trunk easily with the screws removed or is it necessary to pop the lens off first?
  2. I'm looking at putting a fairing on my rstd. If I do I'll need to figure out how to mount my lowers. Looking at the brackets diamondR sells, do they mount to the turn signal bar and would this work on the rstd if so do I need other parts to make it work?
  3. Four old retired guys are walking down a street in Ferry Michigan They turned a corner and see a sign that says, 'Old Timers Bar - ALL drinks 10 cents'. They look at each other, and then go in, thinking this is too good to be true The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, "Come on in and let me pour one for you! What'll it be, Gentlemen?" There seemed to be a fully-stocked bar, so each of the men ordered a martini. In short order, the bartender serves up four iced martinis...shaken, not stirred, and says, "That'll be 10 cents each, please." The four men stare at the bartender for a moment. Then look at each other. They can't believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis, and order another round. Again, four excellent martinis are produced with the bartender again saying, "That's 40 cents, please." They pay the 40 cents, but their curiosity is more than they can stand. They have each had two martinis and so far they have spent less than a dollar. Finally one of the men says, "How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these for a dime a piece?" "I'm a retired Pipefitter from Detroit ," the bartender said, and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the Lottery jackpot for $125 million and decided to open this place. Every drink costs a dime...wine, liquor, beer, it's all the same.." "Wow!!!! That's quite a story," says one of the men. The four of them sipped at their martinis and couldn't help but notice seven other people at the end of the bar who didn't have drinks in front of them, and hadn't ordered anything the whole time they were there. One man gestures at the seven at the end of the bar without drinks and asks the bartender, "What's with them?" The bartender says, "Oh, they're all old retired farts from Florida .. They're waiting for Happy Hour when drinks are half price
  4. I've done about all I can do to my carbs over the last couple of years and have done alright with fuel mileage. Usually pull between 36 and 40 mpg in town a running in traffic. I'm not all that gentle on the throttle most the time. I was happy with that. A good day is 42 to 44. I had a morning off for a change today so I took off and wandered around on the back roads for a while. Did about 300 miles. I've always wondered how far I could push the bike for miles before I ran it dry. I usually lose my last fuel bar about 140 miles and start looking for a pump. So today I filled a gallon gas can and put it in the side tank and figured I would find out. I kept my speed as close to 60 - 65 as I could for most the miles and lost my last bar at about 160 miles on the odo. Kept rolling until I got nervous as the last 45 miles were going to have to be Interstate. Stop and filled it up. 226.4 on the odo. Took 4.73 gallons. That figures to be 47.86 mpg. I got nuttin to complain about. I must have learned something hanging around here. Ok, So I did not get to answer one question I had. I know the tank is 5.3 gallons. I should have had about 1/2 of a gallon left. Any of you know about how much you can actually draw from the tank? Later, Mike
  5. I found this Texelent® Bar Mount System but in emailing the inventor found out that it is designed to work only on Gold Wings. I like the idea of a bar that traverses the handle bars that will allow me to use RAM mounts to attach the various accessories I have attached to the handlebars. I also want to have my Garmin 665 top and center in my field of vision. Anyone have any ideas on an alternative? Thanks.
  6. changing my bars for a set of RSTD bars and need a set of TD bar weights, any one have a set that they no longer need, please give me a shout!! Thanks
  7. My '91 VR came with an aftermarket light bar on the trunk. It has amber turn signals on the corners, "tail lights", just inboard, and the center section is a brake light. One of the turn signals burned out, and I thought I could get to the lamps by removing 3 screws from inside the trunk... Yeah, right. As it turns out, the turn signal lens, (and I'm assuming the red lens for the brake and tail lamps) just "pop" out. Apparetly the previous owner used RTV to keep the turn signal lens in place. Question is, does anyone know who made this light bar? I'd like to find more info about how it is mounted and how lamps are changed. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  8. Hello Everyone: Just wanted to thank everyone who commented on Flanders handlebar upgrade. It convinced me to order the bars. I installed the bars on Saturday and rode 300 pain free miles on Sunday. No more burning neck pain!!!! I will try to get around to getting pictures posted. I came up with a very good easy cheap way to save the bar weights. Any questions are welcome. I am glad to provide advise just like all you have done. Thanks......
  9. Hello Everyone: I am trying to help another local rider. Does anyone have a set of bar end weights that were on a RSTD? Thanks....
  10. I had the pleasure to work on Jayceesfolly's 89'VR over the winter and we came up with an unusual but effective way to add some additional light to the rear of his bike. The bike came to my "little shop by the creek" missing the right side helmet lock. Jim expressed an interest in getting a lot more light during braking and was not nearly as interested in replacing the helmet lock. I removed the left side helmet lock, and fabbed up a bracket that was mounted on the two "tabs" that held the helmet locks. As you can see in the pics, I used a light bar that has found a home on MANY Second Gen. Motorcycles, as a matter of fact, this particular light bar was slated to be installed on a Second Gen. later this month. I have since had to order another one for the owner. Both Jim and I were pleased at the results, and the light output from this light bar far surpasses the original tail light. So if you can live without your helmet locks, this is an excellent way to add a considerable amount of light for BOTH running lights and brake lights on the rear of a First Gen. PLUS, if you did your shopping for an LED light bar at Maint. Day this year, (with all the Second Gen. bikes that attend) you could add this light bat to your First Gen. for only a few dollars! Enjoy the pics. If you have questions, feel free to PM me, Earl
  11. ...a front stock flasher bar (blinker/marker). Does any who may have taken one off for a light bar have it laying around collecting dust. Water got into the left end of mine and everything is rusted and corroded. I had to destroy it to get the bulb out. Two of the three wires broke loose from the base where the light fits in. I can buy from from Yamaha but thought I would ask here first.
  12. I have a 2004 Midnight Royal Star Venture and I want to purchase the Yamaha Passing light kit but I want the halogen lights opposed to the sealed beams. I have been correspondence with one of the suppliers and there is some doubt whether the halegon lights mount on the same light bar as the sealed beams light do. Has anyone been thru this as I don't want to order and get the wrong ones. The numbers separately are - lamp bar STR-4XY35-40-10 and the halegon lights are STR-4NK35-10-01. Can someone please verify this set up is compatible? Also where is the best place to purchase......I live in Canada. Thanks
  13. Started to install the passing lamp light bar on my 05 RSTD and noticed that the Headlamp bucket has a bracket that attaches to the stock light bar but there isn't any means to support the HL bucket on the new light bar..... What am I missing..?? Thanks for your help.
  14. It looks like this now http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc29b3127ccefc0560aa75ce00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Tank shot (want to add bib with pockets & chrome cover) ?? NOTE aftermarket tach. **ALSO** Has anyone attempted to change the colors of the backlight on the dash (speedo area). I though if it was blue it would be really nice. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc31b3127ccefc01ae9bb82b00000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Front end light bar. Can lights be added to this? Does entire bar need replaced to add driving lights??? I do not find adapters of any kind listed anywhere. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc31b3127ccefc015761f83500000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ I am not digging the rear lights. Will probably get rid of the clears front and rear and go with something different. I like to be seen and these lights hide in daylight. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a1dc31b3127ccefc005f7a595600000030O08AZtmjJo0aOAe3nws/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Looking for thoughts and ideas. This bike has 3100 miles on it so my money can be spent on goodies right now. It is in "need" of nothing. Dealer went ahead and brought it up to 4,000 mile service requirements so I am good for a while.
  15. Submitted by Tony Dathan. Problem: One of the common complaints about the Yamaha passing light kit for the RSV is that it mounts so close to the fairing that removing the fairing becomes very difficult requiring one to either remove or loosen the passing light bracket. Installation: When the bracket arrives you will need 2 3/8" NC x 3/4" long bolts and lock washers. I got these at Home Depot for under two bucks. Undo your light bar. Use the 8mm bolts to fasten the bracket where the light bar was and then using the 3/8" bolts bolt the light bar to the bracket. Most of us that have the bracket can now split the fairing without touching the light bar or at least just loosening it a few turns. Might depend on the actual lights you have. Basically you undo the light bar, put the bracket where the bar was, then mount the light bar to the bracket! How to get one: You can contact me at dathan@shaw.ca The price at this time is $27.50 USD. That includes the postage as well! The following are some shots I've taken in the past! #5 shows the clearance between the back of the light and the fairing. This started as a way of my being able to clean between the light and the fairing. Taking the fairing off without touching the light bar was just a huge bonus! Attached Thumbnails Sorry to bring this up again, but, I can't find these bolts at Home Depot or anywhere else. Must they be this exact size? The salesman I spoke with didn't know what NC was. I don't either. And is it two & three eighths by three quarters or the quantity 2 of size three eighths by three quarters. Could the NC mean non-corrosive, i.e., stainless steel? Finally, what do the numbers refer to? As you can see, I'm not too mechanical. Thanks in advance for being gentle. LOL
  16. Yesterday, was a beautiful sunny day here in central Florida. We were going to head out on the bike and explore some of the areas we haven't been to yet but some of the other folks in the park invited us to join them for a ride. Great idea, I thought, it's always nice to ride with someone who may know of some good riding in the local area. So we head out at about 12:15, stop to top up the gas tank and off we go. Sixteen miles up the road I see everyone (four other bikes with five people) slowing and turning into a bar. Maybe a great place to eat, I think. Nope, $1 drafts. OK, go with the flow, I'll have a diet coke. Half an hour later we're ready to roll again. Nice ride, seeing some different country and starting to enjoy the trip. Now what? Another thirty miles and now we're pulling into another bar. We don't want to be rude and I'm getting hungry so in we go. Again $1 drafts and just awful deep fried bar food. But it's a nice sunny day and we're sitting on a patio overlooking a nice river. An hour later off we go again. Four lanes, heavy traffic with lots of strip malls etc. After thirty miles of this we turn off the four lane on to a nice country road and start heading toward the gulf. We stop again but this time it's a nice beach area. The beer drinkers run into the restroom for a quick pit stop and ten minutes later away we go. Back into the traffic for about ten miles or so then a main two lane road but at least it's out in the country. Another thirty miles and you guessed it, another bar. By this time it's getting to be about 5:00, dark in a little over an hour and I've had enough bars. I gave everyone a honk and a wave and off I went. Hope they didn't think I was rude but if they did, too bad. I went back to the space shuttle, put my feet up and enjoyed a nice cold beer out on the patio.
  17. Well It has been awhile but here is a picture of my 'new' to me 2004 Midnight RSV. It's not the best picture inside the garage but there is too much snow and ice to wheel it outside for an outdoor picture. 18. Converted rear turn signals to stop, tail, and turn and installed light bar for $76.00 total. Got the kit at cruiser customizing and the light bar from JC Whitney. I wired the light bar to function as tail and stop. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk114/bigpine33/016.jpg?t=1295578080
  19. Two men are sitting at the bar at the top of the Empire State Building drinking, when the first man turns to the other one and says: "You know, last week I discovered that if you jump from the top of this building, by the time you fall to the 10th floor, the wind around the building is so intense that it carries you around the building and back into the window." The bartender just shakes his head in disapproval while wiping the bar, but says nothing. The second guy says, "What? Are you insane? There's no way in heck that could happen!" "No, it's true," said the first man, "let me prove it to you." He gets up from the bar, jumps over the balcony and plummets toward the street below. When he passes the 10th floor, the high wind whips him around the building and back into the 10th floor window and he takes the elevator back up to the bar. He meets the second man, who is astonished. "You know, I saw that with my own eyes, but that must've been a one-time fluke. That was scientifically impossible!" "No, I'll prove it again," says the first man as he jumps. Again, just as his body hurtles towards the street, the 10th floor wind gently carries him around the building and into the window. He takes the elevator back to the bar. Once upstairs, he successfully urges his dubious fellow drinker to try it. "Well, what the heck," the second guy says, "I've seen that it works, so I'll try it!" He immediately jumps over the balcony - plunges downward - rapidly passes the 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th floors ...his body hits the sidewalk with a loud "splat." Back upstairs, the bartender who had been silent the whole time turns to the first drinker, and shakes his head. He says, "You know, Superman, you're a mean drunk."
  20. I am looking for an HID Highway bar for my 08 Venture. Is there one that is manufactured to fit he Venture without modification of drilling holes etc?
  21. An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?' The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.... In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things: 1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat. 2. The bouncer is a blonde girl. 3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate. 4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter. 5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler. Now, think about it seriously, Cowboy. Do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?' The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No...not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'
  22. Okay more questions. #1 I have been reading about the improved handling with the Leveling Link, but I only see it advertised or mentioned on the Venture and not the RSTD. I noticed on my RSTD it has a link on the rear shock. Is the Leveling Link available for the RSTD or is it only for the Venture ( I am a little unclear on this)? And to be honest , so far I have been happy with the handling of the bike but if I can make it better I would like to do so. #2 Slipping the forks? Looking at the forks on the RSTD I I raised the forks doesn't the Schrader Valves on top of the forks hit the bottom of the handle bar? I don't see how this works without the bar interfering. Anyone with Photos? Thanks again. Tom
  23. What diameter is the handle bar on a second gen?
  24. I tried to order this part from Yamaha and they said that this part is no longer available. I'm needing the small black washer (wierd sharpe) that slides over the threaded portion of the chrome bar of the entire radio module. The chrome bar is what you grip in order to lift the entire radio module out of the faring. I have an 89 VR. I'm hoping that someone might have an extra radio module unit that they are using for spare parts.
  25. I am looking for a set of crash bar braces complete with clamps. Anyone have a set willing to part with them?
