  1. Had an off and on rainy ride from Woodstock Ont. to Fort Erie this morning.Went to Motorcycle Swap Meet---mostly Harley Davidson stuff(buying parts lost?????) but bought set of 3 leather small bags to fit between bars and windshield on my Road-star for my trip(hopefully to Maintanance Day) and Out Back coats for the Phantom Wife and I.Stopped by Wizard765's place but he wasn't home so had coffee at Tim Hortons and drove to MarCarl's and visited for a while before riding home still in the rain. Luckily I had tonight off or it would have been a lllooonnnnggg night. Was not a bad ride at all very refreshing.
  2. Over in Victoria today helping our niece move. Beautiful day. Lots of hot rods and bikes on the road. Saw a black/red 2nd gen a couple times. I was the guy on Superior street with a truck full of furniture watching you go by. Bad news...she is moving in with us for a few months Good news.....she is a nice kid and loves to bake. Bad news......looks like I might be gaining even more weight.
  3. I went on a PGR mission today and ended up in the ditch. I was behind another bike that froze in a harpin corner and lost control with me behind him. I had nowhere to go as I was committed to the corner and did not want to hit him so I ditched it in the ditch. Now for the bad news, I need a front lower left cowling, and a radio exterior shell. the radio works but the case is severely damaged. Any one have any of these??? The other bad new is a cracked rib or two and two scuffed and brused knees and of course the pride issue. I did finish the mission with 200+ miles so i kept most of my pride. Any help on the two items would be appreciated as I am heading to Freebirds MD and at least need the radio repaired. I will need to paint the bike but don't know if I can accomplish this before MD. I guess I need to donate to the pot now!! WHERE???? Thanks:depressed:
  4. Well Im here. Actually got in town Monday. Nice weather and looking forward to a great time and a lot of racing...............calling for bad weather Friday, but it should pass. I am suprised at how few bikes I have seen here.
  5. I just did my clutch up-grade and what a difference. Makes me wonder how long this darn thing has been slipping, I can't remember when it last ran like this. She really hooks up now. The cluth disks did'nt look too bad, a little blued. I sanded them a little (cross hatch) and put it back together, NICE! BIG THANKS! Carl:thumbsup:
  6. up date on diaphragm prices from sirius consolidated with venture rider.org order is 69.99 for 4 plus 6.oo air mail or13.25 ups. up 9.99 on diaphragms and 1.00 on air mail. still not to bad when you need what you need ! i am not complaining mind you just passing on the info.
  7. I have a 2005 Royal Star Venture. There were 2 times yesterday when I turned the bike on, my radio, my clock, and my trip odometers were all reset. Is this indicative of a battery going bad, or may I have some other kind of electrical problem? I bought the bike used about 14 months ago, and not sure how old the battery is. Thanks.
  8. You remember way back when that you helped me out on the 4 1/2" Drag Specialty driving lights I was trying to mount on the brackets you made? I sent you the frame mounting brackets while you were still in MI and you added a gusset to them to stiffen them up. I think those brackets got more miles on them than my bike did that year. They ended up in Texas when you headed south and you and Ponch finshed them up and even powered coated them for me. Well that project died out as the lights were pretty heavy and big and caught a lot of wind and they would shake so bad going down the road it would knock the filiments out of the headlights. I gave up and went back to the smaller and lighter lights. For a while. I liked those DS lights. So back to the drawing board. I think I've nailed it. I fabbed up a set of prototype braces out of aluminum tubing and installed them on the bike with the DS lights. No more shakey at all. Even at highway speeds they are solid. Finally. So now to make a set out of SS tubing and finish this up. They don't look too bad and do clear the lower fairing and the foot wings with plenty of room to spare. That was the whole problem before. No where to really mount any type of brace that would clear everything. I'll go with function over form on this one. So your efforts to help me out were not wasted. It paid off in the end. Thank you once again. Mike
  9. Good afternoon everyone, Both hi and low beam on my 08 RSV went out last week. I have been reading the threads on this problem and have done the starter switch lube and fuse checking. I have read there might be a possibility of the Reserve Light Unit going bad but how often is this a problem? I'm not sure as to what direction to take at this point. Its difficult to get to the headlight lamp but is it possible for both hi and low to go bad in one lamp? Any suggestions would be helpful. By the way, everything else is working fine, it's just the headlight. Thanks Frank
  10. I picked up my new Flanders bars today. The task of swapping them over begins this weekend. Shouldnt be too bad especially with the write up on here.
  11. I need to know how to properly diagnose a bad ignition coil. For a while I have had a vibration mainly under load and feel I loose power at the top end where everyone is bragging of all kinds of power. It feels like when I rev it up that its just not all there. I currently have Iridium plugs in there but am not impressed and am going back to regular NGKs. Ive thought about changing to after market coils and wires but dont want to change if it will do me no good. So how do I find out if I have a problem?
  12. Woke up this morning to no water in the house.....Went into the basement to checkout our well pump to find that our 80 gallon pressure tank ruptured during the night....yep, flooded basement again...at least my new sump pump was working just fine..not to bad except that the new tank and installation will cost me $850.00.....YIKES..THANK GOODNESS MY PLUMBER WILL LET ME BREAK IT UP INTO THREE PAYMENTS... ..DRAT YOU BOOMER AND YOUR PYGMIES....
  13. SO, here's the new issue. When my '87 is hot I get a gear clashing / crunch from the lower left as I am sitting on the machine when I hit the start button. This happens one out of four starts or so. Is this the starter clutch? The starter seems to be engaging and disengaging fine but the crunch is bad when it happens I saw the write up on starter clutches and it looks ugly so I want to attempt to confirm before popping covers off the engine. All the best! -Jim
  14. Someone called me this past Monday night to talk about the lights I just added and hit me at a really bad time. I didn't catch who it was. The phone rang just as I had just put dinner on the stove and then a (former) BIL stopped by with a car we were buying. It just snowballed and I needed to postpone the call to attend the immediate things happening in the kitchen. Didn't mean to be rude. Would be glad to chat about the lights (or anything else). It just hit at a really bad time. Give me a call this weekend if you would still like to chat. Will be in the garage (fixing cars) or in the office (doing taxes) all weekend. RR
  15. After I did the carb sync, the bike now vibratres quite bad upon hard acceleration in any gear. Any ideas?
  16. decided to get a lift for my 2000RSV. thought i would try the new tractor supply and buy the big red 1500lb lift for 119.00. lift seemed ok but noticed the welds on the locking mech were bad and was bent too. I had them order a new one and it came back just as bad. needless to say i returned it and went to sears to look at the craftsman 1500 for the same price. I had them open the box so i could compare before i took it home. The craftsman lift seemed far superior in most ways--foot pedal release, spring loaded locking mech, attacheable T-handle to move were a couple. **best news it was on sale for 99.00. guess now it is time to get a lift adapter or takle making one myslef.
  17. Ok first the good...built my bracket and harness for the stebel airhorn. Works great and since I had it and the aluminum stock laying around it cost zero dollars. Now the BAD. I attacked the job of splitting the fairing yesterday to find the previous owner had glued the chrome windshield mole on because one of the end tabs was broken. I see no choice but to buy it and it looks like 140 bucks or so! crappy design! Also I see that my windshield retaining strip like some others on here was assembled and the 2 center bolts left out. It's under warranty but with the broken chrome I am sure this will somehow be my fault. The whole thing makes me sick... anyone ever have to have stuff like that handled under warranty? It also looks like there may be some seeping around the rear diff mounting flange. On the plus side... we did go for a 120 mile ride today... I was staring at the tape holding the chrome on the whole time :-( Frank
  18. My trunk is busted up pretty bad from stress cracks and I need a new one. The PO tried repairs with something that looks like JB Weld and did a bad job. Pieces gone, etc. Anybody use an aftermarket one? Which one? Which ones do I avoid? I see a bunch on them on eBay and I am open to suggestions. I'm sure I'm not the first to ask about this but haven't found a thread so far. Thanks for helping the newbie.
  19. I have had an intermittent problem with the HID light fron Canadian Cruiser Customizing since Jan. I have been in contact with Scott over there and while he has returned my emails right away there has been no solution. I followed all of his recommendations and initially the problem went away. The other night the light didnt work at 2 am and I depended on my LED driving lights to get home. In our first conversation Scott said its possible the ballast is bad. I raised that issue again with him this time and requested the ballast be replaced under the remaining warranty, something I requested back in Jan. He said its either bad or good and I could send it back to him for testing. He also said the wiring could be pulled too tight. Told him that the shipping cost alone back and forth would almost justify buying a new ballast. I said that it was installed properly, no stretched connections and that I knew what I was doing, in a nutshell. I also said it almost sounds like your trying to not honor the warranty. This was Sat. Like I said, he always responded within a few minutes. Its now 2 days and no response. While I hope I didnt hurt his feelings I dont enjoy going lightless at night, when I do most of my riding.
  20. I got a call at work from my GF that she needs help with the dog. The dog wen thru the front window and got cut up and is bleeding all over the place. So I leave work and beat feet home, made the 45 minute drive in 30. The dog has several lacerations to her front leg and there is a hole in the front window. It turns out that some strange guy was trying to break in the front door and the dog was going ballistic trying to get him to stop. She was in full blown protect mode of the GF and house. The guy beat feet as soon as the front window broke and the dogs head came out, about 3 feet from the door. Fortunately the dogs injuries are not bad. Once I got all of the hair trimmed away from the cuts I decided that there was no serious internal damage and it was just some shallow cuts in the skin so there was no vet bill to deal with. I'll check it again when I get back home from work to be sure but am not expecting any issues. So is she a good dog for chasing away the bad guy and protecting the GF, or a bad dog for going thru the window and bleeding all over the living room carpet???? On the bright side, I am a design engineer for a place that makes commercial carpet cleaning equipment, so I have access to the latest and greatest technology in carpet cleaning, blood is not an issue to get out of off white carpet (don't ask how I know this:whistling:). AAAArrrrrggggg........ I really had plans other than cleaning the carpet tonight.
  21. Unbelievable, Oregon will spend millions to run this near minuscule revenue stream. This is what gives government a bad name. http://news.motorbiker.org/blogs.nsf/dx/electric-motorcycles-if-they-dont-get-you-one-way-theyll-get-you-anyway.htm
  22. Big snowstorm, eh?!!? In anticipation of all the media hype, all schools were closed. Well, last night we did gewt a little freezing rain, with maybe a half inch of crusty snow, but that was it! Presently it is snowing with a little wind. The way the media presented it, it was going to be the storm of the century and we were all gonna die!!! It was hilarious listening to the news this morning before work, one station, our conservative one, saying things were nowhere as bad as expected, the other liberal stations pl;aying it up like it was a disaster out and we haven't seen anything yet!! One radio station described us as in the hole of a donut, with the bad stuff all around us but not on us! Hey, this is Buffalo, it's winter. Deal with it!!!
  23. North Atlanta Trade center... I had hoped to set up a meet and eat and ride to this event, but things have been nuts at my house / work lately (not a bad thing, just a thing). Anyway, anyone else planning on going tomorrow? Supposed to be sunny and low 60's in the afternoon. The wife and I are planning on going for a while in the afternoon. A link to the venue-show

    HD Nova?

I got this link in my email today, it's for an early '80s designed HD that never made it to production. Too bad too, it looks pretty interesting. http://big-diesel.blogspot.com/2007/09/nova-harley-davidson-which-was-never.html
