  1. While poking around in our Classified section I saw this ad for an '88 with a bad second gear. I've never heard of this happening to a 1300 tranny before??... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1327/cat/3
  2. Wikipedia among others, is considering a website blackout in protest of SOPA. I am a contributor to Wikipedia, and I think Jimmy Wales is right on. I'm ashamed to admit that one of the prime sponsors of this bad legislation is a Republican from Texas. I guess Lamar Smith has been corrupted by large wealthy Record and Movie industry PAC's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act That link may be working or not depending on when you try it. 3. I'm relatively new to side arms - in the Army I carried a 45 cal. - that's my experience. I was the recipient of a new Kel Tec P11 today and was wondering if there is something I should be aware of ? Would like to read the good, bad and the ugly Thanks
  4. Got the bike running today...thanks dingy . It has a couple of issues, though. It leaks more oil than the Exxon Valdez, it's got a water leak that I think is a bad hose, and 1 carb slide is a little sticky. But it's firing on all 4
  5. Got to burn almost a whole tank full through the the RSV this afternoon. Dodged a couple of rain showers. Saw a rainbow, but put the Frog Toggs on anyway and sho' 'nuff 5 minutes later the sun came out! That's the good news, the bad news I now have a 1999 "pogo stick"! The rear shock is completely "oil-less".
  6. Now just what is it? Well I spent some time to make a spice rack for my wonderful wife,,, she wanted it for a long time,, but it involved cutting wood and that is not my specialty,,, but I done IT. Now of course the shop is all dusty and my Scamper is sitting there all covered in dust,,, not really all that bad, but bad enough to need a cleaning,,,,, sooooooo what better way to clean the dust off than go for a ride,,, SO I DONE IT. Didn't work so good, so maybe I have to try IT again, and ride a little longer and faster.
  7. Found this bouncin' around at work looking for some clean humor, hard to find these days, enjoy :] Susie's husband had been slipping in and out of a coma for several months. Things looked grim, but she was by his bedside every single day. One day as he slipped back into consciousness, he motioned for her to come close to him. She pulled the chair close to the bed and leaned her ear close to be able to hear him. "You know" he whispered, his eyes filling with tears, "you have been with me through all the bad times. When I got fired, you stuck right beside me. When my business went under, there you were. When we lost the house, you were there. When I got shot, you stuck with me. When my health started failing, you were still by my side. "And you know what?" "What, dear?" she asked gently, smiling to herself. "I think you're bad luck."
  8. I just had to share this. A couple bad words but very funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUY-H3vWhzY%26hl
  9. Setting here day after day after day staring at the same four walls day in and day out something has to snap. Tonight it snapped, and I cut loose. No food, no money I said to hell with it and went shopping, I have check protection with my credit union so every bad check I write only costs me $20 more. I went to the grocery store and bought $174 worth of food so we didn't have to live on roman noodles for the rest of the month. I went 11 days being so sick I could barely get out of bed before I broke down and went to the Doctor that I could not afford and found out I have a lung and sinus infection which is the reason I could hardly breathe and had such god awful headaches and then had to pay him and then pay for prescriptions. Then today if it could go bad it went bad, I came home after writing a bad check for food to have my Daughter waiting for me crying that her knee hurt. Why did her knee hurt? She used the small step latter we have to try and get something off the top shelve in her bedroom at the bigger mobile home we just moved into and evidently she didn't lock the latter into place because it folded up on her and she fell (she is OK thankfully because as of Oct 1st the state of Michigan felt she no longer qualified for health insurance ) and put her knee threw the wall in her room and fell across the cable hook up for her TV and ripped it out the back of the TV. So I go and escape tonight to the local bar and spend $40 drinking jack and coke and talking with friends and strangers over 13 years old just to get away from it all. So now I will beat myself to death for the rest of the month because I spent $40 on myself and wrote a bad check for food that will set me back at the first of the month when I get my next disability check. You all need to take a careful look at how you are prepared for life, I thought I had everything taking care of, but one fall down the basement stairs changed my life forever, insurance and the government will make sure you loose everything you saved and have before they lift a finger in your behave. No Christmas tree this year because there is no presents to put under it. I have to keep the internet going because the schools don't supply books anymore and my Daughter has to go on line for homework, have to pay rent to keep a roof over our heads, got to pay consumers to have heat and power, have to pay for water and sewer and garbage pickup, need to pay insurance to drive, need to pay medicade for insurance and silverstone for prescriptions just like any one of you do. So now I will spend the rest of the month hating myself for spending $40 stinking dollars on myself instead of setting at home going nuts. Lot of people do not understand (like I didn't) what it means to be broke, not the broke that you used up you allotted money for the month and you can just get more out of the bank or the credit card, but the kind of broke that there is just no more money to get. How do you decide what to write a bad check for, for food or for a winter coat, boots and gloves. She just will have to be cold going and coming to and from school but she will have food to eat. Guess I have ranted enough even though it's only a fraction of what I want to be able to say, but it sucks when you realize that you used to go to bed praying that things will be better or not worse tomorrow to going to bed wishing you don't wake up the next morning. Thanks for being there to let me rant.....Karl.
  10. I need to replace my air filter and am looking for advice. I find I can get a K&N filter for less than the OEM filter, or an Emgo replacement for less than that. Any bad experience from using K&N as far as flowing too much air for the stock set up? Any bad experience with the emgo? Thanks for any advice.
  11. I am thinking about buying a new RUGER SR9C pistol so i'm wondering if anybody has one that can give me any info good or bad about it. It comes with a 10 & 17 round mag. It has a lot of nice safety features.
  12. With the weather I was just wanting to amke sure all our southern riders where OK. Hope nobody was hurt during your outbreak of bad weather in the south.
  13. My low fuel indicator has stopped working. The light does not come on and the odometer does not switch to the "find a gas station, dummy!" mode. Is this an indicator that the sending unit has gone bad? Anyone had any experience with this? The gauge itself still works.
  14. My headset cord is bad, the cord that is on the gas tank. How do you and how hard is it to change or maybe have a new end put on by soldering?? I see that I can get a used one at Pinwall. Any help will be appreciated. thanks , maddog:fingers-crossed-emo
  15. three days ago my best friends daughter had a grand mal seizure. she suffered from these since she was 8 years old. well she had a bad one and her heart stopped as well. they shocked her and flew her to st cloud MN they cooled her down and placed her in a induced coma ...today they tried to warm her up. and there was no response. her brain and body shut down. she passed away. she was only 34 years old . i am verry sad as i dont have the money to travel up there for the funeral service. but i would like to ask for a few prayers for her family . me and her family where verry close. they even took me in when i was homeless. so you can see how bad i feel. thanks james
  16. First, This is my first post to Venture Riders. This looks like a great place to be if you ride a Venture or Royal Star. Secondly, I would like to apologize; this post will be a bit long. I have an electrical problem that has me baffled. I have a 1997 RSTD, 31280 miles. Bike runs great, very comfortable, love the look. But it developed an electrical issue. Riding along, the bike died. Other electrical items remain on. Turn the key off then back on, it started right back up. This condition was very random; it may be fine for the rest of the ride or it may die again in an hour or it may die in a mile. After research I believed it was the ignition switch. Everything I read, heard or saw indicated the switch was bad. Since the Yamaha switch ws so expensive, I decided to use a generic switch and duplicate the switch circuit; one hot wire in and 3 power wires out. I built the circuit, replaced the switch, spliced in the wires. Turned the key, had lights, turn signal, horn, CB, fuel pump etc. Hit the starter button, nothing. Pulled in the clutch, nothing. Raised the kickstand, blew the main fuse. Aha, the kick stand switch. Jumped the switch, put in a new fuse, turned the key and blew the main fuse again. Pulled the starter cut out relay, and reading the service manual checked the continuity across the blue/yellow pin and the sky blue pin. The relay appears not to have continuity. There is infinite resistance showing on my meter in both directions. I believe the relay is bad. So is the relay bad and it caused the issue, or is it bad because of the ignition switch issue. OR is the kickstand switch bad and it caused both the stalling problem and the possible dead relay? Again, sorry for the long first post. Thanks in advance for any advice, I really appreciate any help John
  17. So I have cleaned all the contacts and connectors on the audio system on my 1st gen and the radio plays only from the left speaker. Since the tape player is non-functional I'm not able to isolate this to just the tuner. What is strange is that when you power on the radio you can hear a "thump" from the right speaker. Because of this, I am suspecting either a bad right channel on the tuner or perhaps a bad wire from the tuner to the amp. I don't have a headset so I have not been able to test that circut to see if the problem is isolated to the speaker. Has anyone else experienced this and did you find a resolution? Can anyone offer me more advice on troubleshooting?
  18. Has anyone removed the stock rear turn signals / brackets? How bad are the holes left behind in the fender? Are there three holes?
  19. the last few weeks i have been haveing bad head aches realy bad ones. im thinking its just the sinus problems i have been suffering from the last 2 years. so off i go the E.R i could not stand the pain in my right eye? doctor there did a few test,s said the sinus are infected. but thats not whats causeing the pain in your eyes. you need to have an MRI done to the brain and the spine? you have something going on in there? so he made an appoitment with a nerologist. to see what is going on? he did give me some medicine to help with the pressure on the eyes. he said the MS could be acting up and more lesion could be forming in the central nervous system but he wont confirm that. he did say that optic nerve in that right eye is bad. they might have to insert a needle in it and take off the pressure? good chance i wont lose sight in that eye i hope. but if the MRI shows more then what he knows then where talking major operation to the brain to release some of the scar tissue that is forming on the nerves this could lead to loss of sight to the right eye. but save my spinal cord form becomming infected and causeing more problems. so thank you all in advance. appointment is thursday will keep you posted
  20. Sailor

    horny

Not that kind, the pathetic one on the bike. I am sure it has been discussed before but I want to upgrade and am looking at Stebel nautilus or Wolo Bad Boy as they seem to be the closest fit. Any opinions (silly question) as to which is best and easiest fit?
  21. Just bought a new Avon rear tire and had it mounted today. The shop that mounted it told me that the tire needed 2 oz. of weights to make it balanced and that was very unusual and he even suggested I got a bad tire. On a side note, he tried to sell me something called dynobeads?. Anyhow, is it true about a new tire being bad if it needs 2 oz of weights and what is dynobeads?
  22. I'm shopping for parts for my damaged front fender and have found the parts at Extreme Powersports http://www.partforyamaha.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=YAM to be cheaper than Parts Shark. Has anyone here done business with Extreme? Good experience or bad?
  23. For repairs. I've been dealing with bad gas milage for a couple years now. I've had everything fuel related checked, synced, cleaned etc. I've read about these coils going bad on occassion. Namely the number three coil. So this summer I bought a set of coils from a low milage crashed RSV for $40. I'm in the process of replacing the #3 coil. Has anyone done this themselves? If so, how the heck do you get your hands in there to replace it? I've torn up my hands to get the old one out and I almost have the new one in, but I'm having a hard time getting anything in there to tighten the screws. I've pulled the right side rear exhaust off. I moved the two metal tubes out of the way. But there is not much room for my paws. I've gone at it from the top and underneath. Any suggestions?
  24. The economy is SO bad that I received a pre-declined credit card application in the mail; CEO's are now playing miniature golf; Exxon-Mobil laid off 25 Congressmen; Angelina Jolie adopted a child from America; Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore; a picture is now worth only 200 words; they renamed Wall Street "Wal-Mart Street", and lastly, when I called the Suicide Hotline, I got a call center in Pakistan. When I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck. Now THAT'S bad!
  25. An interesting article in the riders plus news letter. I am not sure what to make of it though, because my spidey sense is giving me a bad feeling. http://www.ridersplus.com/articles/news/One_Year_of_Ontario_Auto_Insurance_Reform.php
