  1. Just curious...mostly from people that have had this done at the dealer (stealer). They also changed out a back tire at the same time... So what is a customary charge at a DEALER for this service? I'm only interested in what was charged for the swing arm bearing lube. Thanks.
  2. Have been feeling bad the last couple of days . Last night I thought I had the flu.....fever ,chills, then sweats...every bone in my body aches and I've been light headed...I had a terrible nights sleep.....got up this morning awaiting Rockets arrival...I looked down at my right arm and noticed a red line from my finger (which I scraped the other day) extent completely up my arm and into my armpit...It was bright red and hot to the touch..... well, I still didn't feel any better, in fact I felt worse than yesterday.........long story short....a call to my dr. was in order and he insisted that I go to the ER....He was right...looks like I have lymphangitis often called blood poisoning........to think a little scrape the size of a ladybug could cause me so much trouble....well, I have a scrip from the dr. and started taking the HORSE pills this afternoon....still waiting on ROCKET...HE IS VERY CLOSE...about 1 hr away...hope these pills work fast.............
  3. Mrs. Vicco here…I’m curious about hand signals/waves. Most of the time, the approaching rider has their left arm extended downwards. Sometimes the palm is facing forward, sometimes the hand is flat with the palm towards the ground. Sometimes, the rider has his arm raised, bent at the elbow, with the palm facing forwards, but sometimes they’ll have their index finger raised. Occasionally, they’ll actually wave. Do the different methods have meanings, or are they all just biker-to-biker greetings and the difference is simply personal preference? Do people in different parts of the country prefer a particular type of wave? Part 2 of this question: Yesterday, when we were riding, twice we met others riding two-up and in both instances, the passenger signaled with her arm in a downward position and pointing with two fingers. I didn’t think anything of it the first time it happened, but the second time caught my attention. Is this a new signal, a two-up to two-up greeting? In both cases, the driver didn’t wave, just the passenger. Thanks for any explanations you can provide.
  4. On the Gen II is the swing arm adjustable left to right? I have installed a Tri Wing trike kit and when the drive shaft is lined up, the diff is offset about 1-1/8".
  5. Does the rear fender need to come off to svc the swing arm? I've never done this part of the maintenance.
  6. For those of you that have replaced/repacked the Swing Arm bearings, did you replace the bearings seals or were you able to somehow got them out without destroying the seals? If you somehow got out, how?
  7. Hello, I recently purchased a 2004 RSV. My last bike was a Goldwing and my wife had arm rest on the back and she realy enjoyed them. She would like them on our RSV but I can't find many choices. Is Diamond R the only ones that makes them? If, so those of you that have them are you and your passengers happy with them? Thanks
  8. When ya trike a Venture do you use the swing arm? I was thinking of trying to find a way to install grease zerks in the swing arm so it doesn't have to be disassembled to grease the bearings. Does anyone have a 2nd gen rear swing arm that they would like to donate to the project. I would write an article and document the steps taken with pictures for our technical library. Any takers? Steve
  9. I have put this off for years, but it has finally caught up with me. I damaged the disk in my back, C-5 and C-6 about 25 years ago, they told me then that it would eventually make my left arm start hurting then go numb. well 2 weeks ago its happen. I was just ridding along and wham felt like an electric shock went down my arm then came the pain and I do mean pain, after about 7 days it was just numb. Anyway ended up at the neuro-surgeon in Macon ga, He is going to fuse both disc sites on the 27th. They say its a simple proceedure and I won't be out very long, about 10 to 14 days. I did go to biketoberfest though, last thru and friday. Gregg:shock3:
  10. I finally got my new (to me) 83 VR on the road this last weekend and really enjoyed the ride. But, I couldn't get the rear view mirrors adjusted to suit me. It seems that their placement on the fairing is too low and too close to the centerline. I could only get a good view of my arm and the lane next to me on either side. I could never tell if anyone was directly behind. Has anyone else had this problem? And what did you do to correct it? Behind Blind in Tucson...
  11. I saw something the other day that I don't think I have ever seen before. I met an older guy on a big cruiser that only had one arm. Didn't notice it when he pulled up to the stop sign, but when he turned in front of me, I could see that his left arm is missing. Just had to think about how hard it would be to ride a bike with only one arm. I was both impressed by his moxie but concerned at the same time. I knew a guy a long time ago that rode with an artificial leg, but that would seem relatively easy compared to missing an arm. Have any of you met or known someone who rides a bike without both arms and legs? I'm just wondering how common that actually is.
  12. Another glitch I am having during the bikes total over haul is my FJR rear end won't cooperate. I have a seemingly good condition rear end that came off of a 2004 FJR. On the bench it turns fine, no problems. I mount it on the bike and as the rear axle is torqued down the rear end binds up. It finally becomes almost impossible to turn by hand. I can hear no unusual noises as this is occurring. Prior to torquing axle and with drive shaft in, wheel turns just as it should. I have tried this with a shim in place of the thickness that Skydoc recommends and several thinner thicknesses of shim with exact same results. Also same with no shim in place. I even tried an experiment shown in first two attached pictures where I torqued wheel down without going through the right side of the swing arm. I felt this would eliminate the shim variation from the process. I used a piece of 5/8" threaded rod with a nut on left side of rear end and other nut up against wheel bearing. This also eliminated the brake arm from causing problem. Last picture shows axle in as it should be, with washer in up against swing arm. I am using an MKI swing arm. I currently have the stock rear end back in and it works perfectly. The one explanation I have thought of is as the axle is being torqued, the ring gear is being forced into the pinion gear just enough to cause binding. Skydoc didn't have an explanation for this. Any suggestions would be great. Gary
  13. I was able to install the arm rests I got from Snaggletooth (Thanks Mike, I'll buy ya a cup of coffee sometime). I used a U-Bolt around the passenger grab bars through the upper portion of the bracket. I needed to cut down the length of the U-bolts. After I installed them, I covered the nylon locking nut with an acorn nut to avoid potential damage to the seat. The lower part of the bracket needed to be attached to an "extender". I used a piece of plumber's tape (left over from garage door opener install) and bolted it to the arm rest bracket. I them exchanged the seat mounting bolt with a longer one. The saddle bags are very tight to put on. I will try the ideas from my earlier post today when I get home from work on Wednesday. Doreen and I took a short ride around town and does she love them!!! We can not wait to get on the highway. As per Rule #1, here are some photos. Dave
  14. I'm wondering if there is a SC Venture owner with passenger arm rests installed that would be willing to meet up with me, so I can check out your arm rests? Mainly have my nine year old passenger check them out and see if she can even reach the rests? I've looked at many variations of passenger arm rests, my dilemma is that they seem to sit way forward of where her arms would comfortably reach, which would defeat the purpose of me funding a set. The days are warming up and are getting longer, so we could meet pretty much meet up with you anywhere in our state.
  15. I need some help on the MKI to MKII brake upgrade. My rear swingarm is different on my 83 compared to my 88 donor bike The pin that the caliper bracket slides onto is a different dia. between the two models. The 83 has a smaller dia. pin on swing arm that matches the original caliper bracket. The 88 has a larger pin that is welded to the swing arm, and it matches the 88 caliper bracket. The 88 bracket, when put on the 83 swing arm flops around. What am I missing here. Bracket at top of picture is 88, bottom is 83. Hole is also slightly elongated in 88 bracket, by about .080". But there is no obvious signs of wear or fatigue. Hole is longer front to back than top to bottom. The holes are the same center line distance, picture is distorting this . Gary
  16. Tore the swing arm apart on my 84 VR tonight and found out I need the middle bushings...the ones near the shock attachment... do they still make those anymore? checkede a couple places online and they said backordered.. Hoping to find some fast. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Clay
  17. Hi to all, Just had my rear tire replaced and something does not look right. I remember seeing a nut and lock ring on the right swing arm, can't be sure but not feeling safe riding. Any help would be appreciated. Screaming red
  18. I just purchased the Ram Mount Reservoir Cover from MotorcycleLarry.com. This is the cover that replaces the OEM reservoir cover and has a RAM BALL on one end of it. I am just curious for those of you that use this mount...Did you put it on the Right or Left (I am assuming most put it on the left)...and more importantly, do you have the BALL to the inside of the bike or the outside? Do you use the 2" arm or the 3" arm and do you mount it ABOVE the Com/Audio Controller or over to the side. Thanks for any and all help on this. Wally
  19. Hi All As I have some time off thought I would give you a up date on my day. Yesterday I was getting out of the fire truck at work and I slipped on the step. I held on to the hand rail with my right arm and tore the tendon that holds my bicep. I will go to orthopidick Dr today and see how long I will be out of work. I guess it could be worse it could be july and no riding. Bull463
  20. i got a jolt of electricity that woke me up and put me in a stupor at the same time. late this afternoon after i called it quits, i was getting ready to turn some wood on the lathe. i reached from the left instead of the right to grab a tool handle i had a bit for. un-be-knownst to me, a light cord that draped near it had a mouse bite of plastic missing. the left arm rested on the lathe as the handle was in the right hand, with the ferrule rising up to meet that one little spot of missing plastic wire coating. the juice traveled from arm to arm crossing my chest to the lathe's ground. I almost made fudge after the 2 seconds of working for the electric company. i was lucky i was not holding on to anything, i was pushed back away from the bench. i don't know if my heart was affected, but seems as not. i cut the offending section of wire out after inspecting & finding about 5 inches of suspect wire and repaired the cable. man, what we take for granted. i waited until i got my wits back before i put tool to wood.

  22. I am going to be installing the flanders kit. Does any of our members run the flanders with risers? If any of you have flanders and used the barrons risers, will the cables and brake lines that come with the kit be long enough? I believe that I will need to use risers as well to get the arm position that I desire.
  23. Hi Gang, Was wondering if anybody has installed the arm rest from DiamondR , I was wanting to contact who ever replies to this thread later today or tomorrow before I start this project if that would be possible. I now have the arm rest but wanted to ask a few Questions. Thanks in advance! Jeff
  24. Ok. I have had a set of these since I bought the bike a couple of years ago. The PO's son had them in a box of extra stuff and said his dad had had them on the bike but he had taken them off years ago. They are in nice shape but for the life of me I could not see any possible way that they would bolt on to the bike. So they stayed in the box. My daughter has asked me several times to put them on for her. Now I ran across an eBay auction that had a set just like mine, except they had a whole different bracket assembly below the pivot. I hoped they would go cheap so I could part them out for what I needed but you know how that goes. Yeah right. These are pics from the arm rests from the auction. I'm going to ask if ANYBODY has a set of old brackets something like these laying around, gathering dust and just generally in the way that they would like to make a deal on. Just checking. Nosing around. I know some of you guys are still suffering from PMS and dieing for something to do........like dig in your old parts stash. I just need the brackets below the pivot. Let me know. Mike
  25. This for those of you that have removed the passenger arm rest rubber pads, to access the rear speakers or what have you. What have you used to put them back? The double sided tape I have as well as the local parts stores are too thick! I was considering black adhesive silicone. Any suggestions!!!
