  1. Just won a roady 2 off e-bay need some ideas on a mount. I saw one that is called a hoon mount that has a backplate for antenna mount, anyone used this or what is the best RAM mount and where can I pick up one at. Thanks
  2. needed cb antenna black part up, well got one from someone here, what I need is help unsrcewing the black part up, able to unsrcew top part but bottom won;t turn but a little bit. black part is just plastic, very thin, easy to break, I think thats what happened to cause me to lose it. spray wd 40 down tube it to loosen it up??? any ideas out there
  3. I have an 06 venture and someone decided they needed the top of my CB antenna more than I did. Replacement in Canada from dealer is $230.00. Does anyone have any reasonably priced alternatives?
  4. I decided to put the HD antennas on the Venture. I thought it would look better. It really does. I made these out of aluminum stock and found some bolts to fit. If I can figure out how to make photos attach I'll put them here. I'm going to a custom bike shop and have the part made from steel and chromed. And also have them get me some chrome bolts and star washers. If anyone would like to do the same conversion, we can get a break on the custom work. I'll wait a couple of weeks to get a price. The antennas are 2009 HD, CB and AM/FM/WB. They cost $30.00 each. It has to be 2009 or later because the 2008 and older do not have the load in the antenna. Rich
  5. I'm riding in a parade this week end so I needed a flag. Went to the HD place and bought a HD trunk flag. Filed away the inside of it a bit and it fits great. SO. While I was there I saw the shorty antennas for the Ultra. COOL!!!! So I bought them. Their about 18" high instead of the 40" I have now. They are also properly loaded for AM/FM and the CB transmission. Now the Venture antenna has a male 1/2" SAE or something like that. The HD antenna has a female 9mm. I need a 1/2 male SAE to 9mm male adaptor. Anybody ever been here??????
  6. here's two things i have noticed about my sirius radios. the one in my truck i wired direct to the radio with the optional antenna hook up. i was getting fade out in certain areas with large power lines. on my v-star the radio would fade in alot of curves. i finally figured what was causing it was since my antenna is mounted on the brake reseroir, and was already not perpendicular to the road, when i lean the antenna was losing the satilite signal at the extreme lean angle. the one on my wing works fine cuz the bars are flatter.
  7. OK Ive read a FEW threads on mounting the XM antenna on the bikes..Has anyone found the absolute best place to mount the ANTENNA for XM?? Pictures if possible..ALSO Is it worth it to get the Weather subscriptin also..does it show radar maps??
  8. Mine felled off finally. Just looking for a replacement, not really wanting to invest in the Marshall Mod. I ghetto fabbed up a "universal" am/fm from VatoZone but it's way too short and looks kinda silly next to the CB antenna.
  9. I have a CB, with the antenna, the splitter, and all the pieces it plugs into, except a white plastic plug. I look a little and couldn't find where it would go to, am i looking wrong? Also, if there is no plug-in for it, where can i buy one?
  10. I put the SWR and watt meters on the CB antenna cable today. I did not expect good readings on the stock antenna. Especially with the short little cable and RCA jacks it has. A good SWR is below 2-1 a really good reading is below 1.5-1. With the short cable on the stock antenna I was anticipating some very poor readings. Perhaps in the 2.5 or 3-1 range. So I was psyching myself up to have to purchase an aftermarket antenna and cable. On both channels 1 and 40 the SWR tested at below 1.2-1. Wow. No antenna adjustment needed. No new antenna needed. No new cable needed. So then I checked the power output. These units are rated at four watts. I tested mine at 3.85. Close enough. Very surprising. I am much happier with the stock units today than I was yesterday. Funny how that is. Mike
  11. I'm replacing my stock CB/Radio antenna on the VR with a Firestik . I looked at the new antenna and of course it has a male end. So I want to replace with all new from the antenna to the CB. I see that I will need different parts to hook this up. One end of the old coax has the plug in type of connector (like on a car radio antenna wire)at the CB and the other end has the old mounting unit built right on it. Where can I get coax with the plug on one end and the screw on connector at the other end by the new mounting stud? OR ----- can I cut the old original mounting end off and put on a new screw on connector for the mounting stud end for the new antenna?
  12. I was chatting with a trucker this afternoon, and was only able to chat for about 2 minutes, I lost him. would a booster antenna, work, or try something else?
  13. OK....I am getting ready to swap my two antennas out. I went out there and got ready to swap them out (should be easy right)...and now I see 3 wrench points (flat spots)... I tried very lightly to turn all 3, but I am afraid I might damage the antenna if I twist off the wrong one... So which one is it...the top smaller wrench point, the middle or the largest one being the lower one. Thanks, Wally
  14. Radio, CB, MP3 and other External Audio (still under construction) Q: How do I use an MP3 player or other audio device with my Venture? A: There is an Aux input jack right next to the stat-of-the-art cassette player in the fairing. In addition, many owners have used a splitter in the Aux input line to add an additional input jack right next to the Aux power jack on the left side of the fairing (be advised, however, that you should NOT connect two external audio devices at the same time, even if you have two jacks, unless you use some type of external isolation device to prevent probably damage to one or both of the audio devices). Please see the threads in this section of the Technical Library for all the answers: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=74]Radio, CB, GPS, Etc. - VentureRider.Org[/ame] Q: My CB antenna is on a different side of the bike than my buddy's antenna - how do I know which one is right, and does it make a difference? A: The CB antenna should be on the left side of the trunk. It makes a difference because the CB unit is mounted under the trunk, and the antenna wire from it is not long enough to reach the CB antenna if it was mounted on the wrong side during dealer prep of your bike.
  15. I received from a Member here, an original antenna for my Midnight venture. Because the first owner installed a short rubber antenna . The antenna that I received has only a short piece of antenna cable left...what is the best way to have this fixed. (See picture of the antenna) Or is there a way that I can take the mount of the antenna apart. To install the cable that is on my bike. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a372/color01joy/P1020077.jpg
  16. Does anyone have an original Sec Gen radio antenna available? The first owner replaced it, for a short rubber radio antenna...and I like to replace it for an original antenna.
  17. So I was looking at another picture of a RSV and my CB antenna is on the opposite side of the picture of another RSV. Which is right? I know my radio picks up good but me CB does not. At least not as good as I thought it should. Mine is an 03 and the other picture is an 09 would that make a difference? Thanks
  18. CB antenna broke off some time ago (2003 RSV) Took bike to CB shop yesterday - new firestick antennas (4') - radio and CB side They hooked up SW meter -- getting very little out put -- it will key up -- but not enough to transmit -- shop said radio probably bad -- broke antenna may have had something to do with it Any ideas? -- need all new radio unit? Bill Austin
  19. I need an antenna wire (stock). I'll buy it or trade something off my 83 parts bike (bad body)
  20. The CB antenna is broken off at the load coil on my '03 RSMV. I rarely use the CB, and when I do it is basically communicating with the group I am riding with, so great performance is not necessary. Does anyone have one of the OEM CB antennas that they would like to get rid of? Thanks! Don
  21. What is the best way to do a twin antenna setup on a 1st gen? I have them both with extra mount. Should I run 1 antenna to the CB and eleminate the splitter, and the other directly to the stereo? Or go 2 into 1, then into the splitter?
  22. Hi, I'm looking at a new '08 RSV at a local dealer. The sales person says that a CB does not come with the bike, but I have been under the impression that the RSVs came with a CB installed. Am I wrong on this? I did see that it has both an am/fm antenna and a CB antenna mounted.
  23. Alrighty.. just got back from installing two new Firesticks on my Midnight Venture with mixed results.. a lot of work and it LOOKS great but with a few probs.. A quick note, hopefully someone has an idea to help me out.. The AM/FM antenna was the hardest part and it turned out awesome.. good audio but with a few weeks of rain coming our way it's going to be hard to test for range. However, the CB antenna install was a shambles.. argh. Right now, when I press the CB button on the control unit, I get a CB:ERR message and it shuts off.. oops! Though I tested the AM/FM radio before putting everything together, I failed to test the CB at all.. argh.. I'm sure I plugged in everything under the trunk when I re-installed it.. Antenna cable plugged from antenna to box under trunk OK.. but before I start yanking things apart again, is there something I should be doing first? I must say, it does look awesome with a midnight venture hehe
  24. My CB antenna is broke. I am thinking about replacing it w/ the Firestik Firefly FL3. Can I use the same FL3 to replace the radio antenna?
  25. I need an antenna (radio/CB) for my first gen. Stock or even aftermarket will do. Where do I go for either?
