  1. I posted this in the audio thread but wanted to throw this out here and see if anyone had the same issue. I just picked up my 85 and installed a new set of 100W speakers since the old ones sounded like the cones were dried out. Well that was a waste of time and money. The new ones sound the same. It is very distorted and the bass and lower frequencies are the worse. The volume also appears to be very high. What would make the system distort and sound like broken speaker mebranes. Sounds the same with AM/FM/Casette. I do not have headsets. I do notice that when I walk around the bike with the radio on that the FM signal varies. Not sure how to improve that as well. AM/FM switch on the control unit does not work. I have to turn the radio on and off and then sometimes it changes between AM/FM.
  2. Are there any replacement antennas for both the CB and the AM/FM OEM whips on a 2nd Gen? Mine are working fine as far as I know. I never use the CB or the AM/FM. I would just like replacements that are shorter. It would be a plus if the replacements actually work but since I don't use them and I would keep the OEM whips I suppose that would be ok also. Preferrably they should be as simple as possible to replace...just screw them on???
  3. I own an '88 V.R. with 61K miles. Everything works properly except the factory AM/FM radio. Turn the radio on & you can hear static like it's not on station, but it's digital. Ride a while and the station may come on for a few miles clearly then it's back to static. C.B. and tape deck sound great throught the factory speakers and the intercom system works. It has one antenna with a splitter or balun under the C.B. I've checked the coax from the antenna all the way back to the radio and everything's connected. I left the radio on while I was tracing the coax connections in case I found a poor connection but it never changed from static. It sounds like the tuner's off station, but why would it kick in and out? Has anyone experienced this? Thanks!!
  4. Rode the bike yesterday listening to my favorite tape.Got on the bike today and cannot find the tape player on the selector switch.I have AM/FM Radio,IC,Auxillary but no tape selector option.I have a tape in the player but it wont eject.???????? to do??????????
  5. Mine felled off finally. Just looking for a replacement, not really wanting to invest in the Marshall Mod. I ghetto fabbed up a "universal" am/fm from VatoZone but it's way too short and looks kinda silly next to the CB antenna.
  6. OK, so upon uncovering my bike at work today for the ride home, I raised the antenna up and tightened the collar nut..............or at least tried to. It's stripped out now. Can't figure out why, it's only 24 years old. Anyhow, I've heard (but have never tried) that a CB radio antenna in place of the OE AM/FM antenna works far better as an AM/FM antenna that the OE stick does. So, I'm going to set myself to install a CB antenna. BUT! I'd like to have the option of either being able to fold it down like I currently do or at least have some kind of a quick disconnect so I can lay it across the bike when I cover it up. Anyone know if such a mount exists?
  7. Apologies if there is a topic already discussing this but I couldn't find it. I'd like to replace the AM/FM on my 04 RSV. I can't stand the one currently on the bike and would like to find something easier to use. When traveling I'd like to be able to hit a scan button like I do in my car. The one on the bike now is still confusing to use and it's time to go. Has anyone here replaced the stock system with something better. One that won't take a lot of modifications as that is not my cup of tea. I don't mind the speakers on the bike although they could always be better. My issue is with the radio.
  8. Hey all. I ran into a problem late last night that confused me and I was wondering if anyone has come across the same problem and possibly found a fix. Mother, one of our fine Canadian friends, has provided me with a cable that plugs into the DIN connector in place of the Cassette deck. It has a switch that toggles back and forth from AM/FM to the cable, and an 3.5mm headphone jack. I hooked mine up late last night. Got GREAT audio quality from my Garmin. But when I flipped the switch back to AM/FM I only got audio on one speaker (right) and it was very very quiet. I had to turn volume up all the way and even then was only moderate for a quiet garage. Should have been blazing loud! ?? I did notice that when I unplugged the Garmin's 3.5mm headphone cable, the audio volume from AM/FM doubled but was still quieter than what it should be. Any one have any thoughts?? Really don't want to stick the Cassette deck back in..
  9. Has anyone here changed out, or had someone else change out, the AM/FM on their ride? I have the 04 RSV and can't stand the stock system. When I leave the area where my programmed channels are set then it's a pain in the arse to try and change them. I'd like to get something easier to use and preferrably one that won't break the bank. I'm not particularlly talented enough to do the work myself so I may have to take it somewhere for the job. I'm ok with the stock speakers. I'm also hoping the new system will improve the volume for my XM. My Garmin has XM and the volume thru the helmets suck. I can hear the radio with no problems but the XM just won't go up loud enough when at hi way speed.
