  1. Got to the office this morning and turned on the air and nothing happened. The air conditioner is out. I am in south georgia and the weatherman said this was going to be the hottest, most miserable day of the year. Don't know when the repairman can get here. Anyone have a portable air conditioner? I am down to a tee shirt and pants. Do you think I would lose customers if I stripped down to just underwear or do you think I might get more customers, especially female customers.
  2. I looked around and haven't found a thread about this, so I apologize it it's been addressed earlier. I've been working on my '86 VR since Thanksgiving weekend, just taking my time and doing maintaince / repairs and any mods I think need to be done. I started the bike last night so see if the new plugs I installed smoothed things out (they helped a lot) and noticed how much air the carbs suck with the tank cover off. It seems like the tank cover would make it hard for the bike to breath very good. I know a few have opened up holes in the air filter box cover to get some more air in that way, but has anyone tried modifing the tank cover to help it get more air from the outside? Seems like it would help the bike quite a bit. Thoughts? Thanks, Mick
  3. After joining the website I found so much awesome info! I went and purchased a gallon of Rotella T 15 /40 and a good filter recommended here and went and changed my oil and filter today! I also charged the air in my shock up to 40 psi for me and the wife and what a difference. New shock will be in my future soon from the looks of things. Looked at my Air filters and feel great because I always took my bike to the shop before. Not a Mechanic but I want to learn about my bike and how to take care of her. I just wanted to thank you all for all the great info and let you all know I am taking on a few more projects. Thanks again Carl
  4. Yes...I knew better. I have a PROGRESSIVE pump for the front, but I don't have a bicycle pump. So I thought I would just TAP the the air hose on the REAR SHOCK. It went up to 60 lbs...now I am worried about the seals. It did not pop...and it holds the air now (or at least appears to hold air so far)...but is it possible I could have pumped it up that high without blowing the seals? Yeah...I know STUPID. But with our trip starting tomorrow, I kinda want to know what to expect... In fact, what if it is blown...can I still ride until I get back from the trip?
  5. Sorry to post this one here, but I need an answer pretty quick. I just put RSTD bars on my RSV and after riding it I found that something just didn't feel right. After getting down and looking, the left side of the bar is hitting the air inlet on top of the fork, and not seating good in the riser. I did have the forks lowered in the triple tree. The right side is turned in a little so it's not touching. What would be the best way to fix the left so it won't touch the bar? I installed progressive springs, so I'm not running air in the forks.
  6. IF ,thungs go right, will be on the road tomorrow don't know what route yet, maybe sume way around K C area'all packed.top is down, tank is full,BODY IS DOING THE BEST IT CAN wild hair 39 " O YAH " air condation works:fingers-crossed-emo:bighug:
  7. I finally got my rear suspension shock installed at the dealer. I asked the mechanic how much air was in the shock and he told me none. Is this correct because I had read that the air should be ajusted for a single or passenger rider depending on the weight of the individual. Thanks, lobo17
  8. Anyone have any experience with the Barron's Big Air kit. Just bought a 05 RSTD and would like to blow the doors off the neighbors HD's. Six neighbors, three have custom upgrade HD's. But nothing touches my RSTD. Any infor helps Viragofan.
  9. Thanks again redrider. After 5 hrs of searching and we found the problem wire. Now the bike starts when pushing the start button instead of starting when you turn the key.And the air horn works great too.thanks for spending your holiday in my little messy garage.
  10. I've seen quite a few posts on how much air to use ect but can't find anything on how to let some of the air out of the shocks. Last couple times I just took the hose off the pump and let it out but that's kind of a pain. Anyone got an easier way? Thanks in advance. Oh by the way this is on a 2008 RSTD.
  11. was install the wind deflectors in the crash bars... So far have replaced the right crash bar (almost) and replaced the broken tabs on the right lower fairing. But then I found an intake leak behind the right air filter, and the drain tube not connected to the rear of the right air box. Well there is no dirt or oil in the intake piping now... Maybe I'll have the wind deflectors on by kbran's MD
  12. skydoc told me about changing my forks to next gen so i can add r1 calipers and bigger rotors. has anyone done this? i would like to see some pics and write up. right now , my forks bottom out, the air line is missing, and brakes are weak at best. i was considering just doing the whole "shabang".
  13. I recently purchased a 1st Gen 1988 Venture with 39,000 miles. I have a few questions if someone has the time to answer (and I hope I'm putting this post in the right place). 1) Air ride system is not functioning. The old owner purchased the bike as is, and somewhere along the way, someone put inflation points so you can hook up to an air compressor or pump to inflate the front and rear. When I flip the key to ACC, the electronics seem to work fine and give me an E4 (obviously), so I'm guessing it may be the compressor? Both front and rear hold air for several days before leaking out. Question: Can someone give me the short version of how the system works and possible fixes to it? Where is the compressor located? What is the path for the air lines and how they connect? Is the air going into the forks and shock in the rear? 2) Installed new replacement battery, that was the exact battery the previous owner had put on the bike from Walmart. It had the same model number and hole to put the sensor in. The sensor / warning system was working fine (no battery warning message on console) until I replaced the battery and reinstalled it. Seemed pretty straight forward lol, just put it in the hole..... Question: Where did I go wrong and how do I fix it (the warning light will drive me nuts). 3) Between about 2000 rpm and 3500 rpm during accelleration my bike sounds like it's full of pissed off crickets, lol. I've read on here about replacing a clutch basket to quiet it down. I just want to make sure the bike is not wearing gears or something. Question: If I decide I can live with the pissed off crickets, is anything going to break on the bike? Otherwise seems to run like a champ. Whew! Sorry so many questions! Thanks in advance! Shane
  14. Got her CLASS working, but the rear will not hold air. The CLASS pumps it up ok, but just a few miles down the road, the rear is floating like a worn out cadillac. Is there a simple fix, or does it need a new rear shock?
  15. is anyone a ham doing the field day this year, I hope to be on the air KJ4YSR
  16. Just got done relocating the TCI to the top of the airbox and while I was at it found the boost sensor to be bad and replaced it. Thanks to a popular member here, I was able to do so fairly quickly. Anyhow, now that the TCI is on top of the airbox, I am concerned with it getting hot due to the lack of cooling airflow around it. In its original location, while moving forward at any speed, air flow I think flowed around the TCI providing a cooling effect. Even though that air had passed through the radiator, I am pretty sure it was a lot cooler than the air that will now surround it being on top of the airbox. If this is correct, what would be the effect? Could that hotter air lessen the longevity of the TCI? Or am just one of those Mr. Fulla Schitt that I was reading about a few minutes ago?
  17. Those Aussies are at it again! This is way cool! http://www.freshnessmag.com/2011/06/10/hoverbike-concept-by-chris-malloy/ Just $40K for an Ultralite... Bet you wouldn't need for air on this machine... WooHooo!
  18. Thanks Goose for the carb sync. I bought a can of Sea Foam at Wally World in Mansfield that very evening. Put in two ounces and filled up to start home Sunday morning. Ran that tank low and filled up again and added two more ounces. Buy the time I arrived at 23 in Circle-ville,Ohio I could feel the bike smooth up some and everything is perfect. The bike wasn't really running rough enough to notice for me. But after I felt it smooth up, that is when I become a big fan of Sea Foam."""Thanks Ponch for the center stand, and installing it. I really appreciate it. I purposely came home through some twisty road to see if the stand would drag. It worked fine and no problems. I need to cut myself a piece of 2 x 4 9 1/4 " long to keep in my saddle bag. Now if I am on the road and have a flat. I can plug it and air it up with my Wally World portable 12 volt air pump. """"Thanks Freebird for letting me and Ponch use your battery drill and bit."" ""Wonderful helpful people, thanks to all for information about these bikes and all your help.:cool10:
  19. Anyone out there riding with these springs in the front, what air pressure are you running in the forks if any at all.. I was told that you needn't have to have air pressure as the springs were heavy duty enough to negate the need for air pressure. Not sure if I actually need to add air to my front end but ya never know.. ?
  20. Does anyone know of a crossover air line that can be connected to the front forks to add or release air to BOTH forks at the same time? Given the relatively low air pressure, it seems difficult to balance the air pressure in the forks separately. My old Virago had such a crossover air line and just one air valve for the front forks. Thanks, Steve
  21. i guess i'm doing something wrong or not understanding something.i just checked the air in the forks i think(pictures below)and the right one read 40 psi and the left one read 16psi, i thought it was only 7 psi max.what the h_l_ am i thinking or doing. HELP!!!! P.S. i ride a 06 second gen.
  22. I've found discussions here about WHAT thermometer to buy. This is different: I'd like to know WHERE to mount it. The what can follow then. My question stems from my buddy and his farkled BMW. It has a pitot tube that samples air as the bike moves. The thermometer is untrustworthy until the bike is moving. The reason being, says he, that an exposed thermometer is influenced by sunlight warming and engine temperature warming. So, where should I put a thermometer? I have an RSTD, and thus I don't have a fairing to hide it in. On the other hand, that gives me a nice, quasi-hidden spot atop the forks but below the speed-o. It is shaded there, sometimes. So, two questions, really. Maybe three... A) Where is the ideal place to sample air from? B) Where is the best, reasonable place for a thermometer on an RSTD? 3) Where is the best, reasonable place for a thermometer on an RSV? I guess the final question should be answered first: does it really matter? Dave
  23. Ummm can't get the pictures to download for some reason
  24. It seems I have to remove the left fork cap and the remove the air line from the my class air compressor and use my shop air to blow the oil back into my forks as the class compressor doesnt have enough pressure to do this. It turns out that if a bike goes on its side oil can fill the class hoses and disable the compressor. So I need to know the size of the wrench needed to get that cap off. I know almost enough here to be dangerous, but I think I also need to make sure to get the bike on center stand and get weight off the front wheel. Is there anything else I need to know to pull this cap off? Brian
  25. Are there supposed to be any little holes that look like drill holes in the sides of the air cleaner box? I think I have about 4 or 5 of them. I didn't do it. They are in the filter area. If not, what is a good way to plug them? Duct tape? lol
