  1. Anybody else have a large gap between their saddlebad lid and the saddlebag? My left one does not close tight in the rear back part. I can't see how to adjust it. Any experience with this problem?
  2. OK,a few watched the post "Member in need of Help" where we helped out a Member from Utah with a shock problem and figured out fast we had somthing going on..Well We did! Ponch and BuddyRich cooked up an idea to get together at my house for an "Adjust Valves learning seminar maintenance day" We had this Grand Idea if we took 4-5 members and taught them how to adjust valves we could spread our knowledge with everyone else at Mini Maintenance Days in the future. Well,V7Goose Myself ,Ponch,Gunboat and GuthDaddy tackled into it. It was a successful learning experience.I now know how to adjust the valves on a 2nd Gen. I also know I am not as young as I thought I was, and seeing my bike torn down was a very TRAUMATIC experience to say the least. Also, I learned before I do it again I WILL buy a Motorcycle Jack that I can drive onto and lift it to where I can stand up and work on it! We did 4 bikes and took from daylight till dark..hope BuddyRich made it home OK. The other thing I learned is I can't see as good as I thought I could! Anyway,Thanks To BuddyRich for the special tool and expert help,V7Goose and the rest for everything. A special thanks to Ponch for making a set of gauges to put in place of my cassette player..I now have a Temp Gauge, Oil Pressure gauge and a Volt meter where the cassette player WAS! V7Goose...thanks for showing me how to set my floats..it sure is running great! 2.5 cases of beer,1/2 gallon of salsa, a case of gatorade,100 gallons of water, couple gallons of tea and 8 bottles of ALEVE was all it took to make it thru OK! Tom Next to last Picture,Goose in a heavy conversation about the Venture front forks...Last picture ONE of my dogs trying to find the squirrel that just ran up that darn tree"Im gonna get that Squirrell" little did it know it was on the other side of the tree getting an acorn out of that hole! NOTE,ADDED 2 Pictures of the Gauges at the last. Tom
  3. How do I adjust the squelch on my CB ? I've fiddled with the different settings but I can't find CB or Squelch Thanks
  4. I'm at my wits end. I haven't rode my 89 VR since last summer and yesterday went to sync the carbs after changing the plugs. I hooked up my Cartune II up and it read very low readings. I attempted to adjust carb #1 to #2 and got not reading. I need to know which way to turn the adjustment screw to at least close the throttle plate. I only attempted to adjust the one carb and couldn't so I quit before I screwed it up anymore The bike wont hold a constant idle, it goes up and down and when you rev up the engine it settles back down slowly. I did tighten up the clamps on the carb boots. I haven't tried spraying starting fluid to see if there is a vacuum leak. Any suggestions will be appreciated as I had to walk away before I got more frustrated. I did have stabilizer in the tank. One note is that I can feel the vacuum pulsing in the Carbtune lines and when I take out the restricters the rods bounce all over the place. I also cleaned the Carbtune rods as per the instuctions and it worked when I put vacuum to it with my Mitymite. Help please. Dave
  5. My radio had been working fine with no problems... Then yesterday coming home from a trip it started to rain... It still played, and I could adjust the volume, but I couldn't change the station, I couldn't select anything to adjust, and I couldn't change inputs... none of the buttons worked.. I did notice if I would turn the bike off for a few, I could change things after I turned the bike back on.. but only for a few.. then it would start acting up like I mentioned... Any one ever seen this happen before? Want to find out all I can before I call the dealer.
  6. I am about to break into the carbs and change my diaphraghms. while I was in there I was going to adjust the needles and do the 1st gen Mk1 version of changing the spacer. I need to know a couple of things. Which way do I adjust the needles? In or out? Second everyone mentions to adjust he mixture screws to 2.5 turns Where are the mixture screws and 2.5 turns from bottomed out or completely loose? Does anyone have detailed information about the carbs? a full step by step details on adjustment? The factory service manual in the tech section has no information at all on carb adjustment or even needle adjustment. only disassembly and rebuild. Thanks!
  7. Seems like I used to be able to adjust the intercom volume with the knob on the audio control box, but last time we road 2-up I couldn't turn the intercom up or down. I know there's an IC setting on the audio box, but isn't the intercom volume adjustable with the volume knob too? My wife can adjust how loud she hears me with her volume control on the passenger's seat, but for some reason I can't adjust mine. I'm running a Zumo GPS with MP3 and can adjust the volume to it and the radio fine. Also, all of the connectors under the fairing have already been pulled and dielectric applied. David

    How to adjust valves

:confused07:Please help not fimiliar with the forum and cannot find the link to adjust the valves? I am going adjust the valves on a 2003 venture royal....I see they are buckets? do you all remove the camshafts or have a special tool for compressing the springs to change out shimms... also what are the specs for the gaps... Thank You all very Mucho ???
  9. I removed the PMS caps from my carbs last Saturday and turned then out 1/4 turn each. ( I also plugged the AIS and synced the carbs) I started noticing some popping on decel after that. This evening I checked the adjustment on each carb. They ranged from 1 3/4 to 2 1/2 turns out! I tried to adjust them by ear but I couldn't hear enough difference to do it that way. I wrote down the adjustments on each in case I needed to go back and then set them all to 2 1/4 out. The result: The bike started easier than it ever has and when I took it for a spin it seemed to be more responsive; more crisp. Anyone else have a similar experience? Do you think I'm close on the adjustment? Is there a better way to adjust them w/out buying a carb-tune or EG analyzer?

    MP3 editor

I need to increase the volume of MP3s. I am a little deaf and while sitting the volume is enough but with wind noise I have to have the volume all the way up and that still is not enough. The radio volume is around 15 but Aux is all the way up and not enough. Any one know a good program that lets you adjust the level on the MP3 when you copy. Thanks Rod
  11. The play in the throttle was minimal, in the past couple of weeks its been increasing, now its about a quarter turn before it engages. How do you adjust this, the manual says bring it to the dealer.
  12. How do you adjust the timing if it's needed? The manual tells how to check it but not how to adjust it. I assume you need to pull the flywheel off to make any adjustments. Or at least pull the sidecover off if you can make adjustments through the flywheel. But I kind of dought that. Anybody have any pics? I've been having some pinging lately when under a load. Not sure if I got some bad gas when I went to the Dells this weekend. I'll try some high grade stuff from one of my normal stops before making any changes to anything though.
  13. I made a quick carb air screw tool by flattening the end of a pc. of 5/32" x 4" welding rod and bending it in the middle to 90 degrees so that now I can adjust the front carb screws without having to remove all of the blasted plastic. Gary:farmer:
  14. I have an 89 venture, and when I first got it I found it was idling around 1300 rpm. A quick look in manual for idling adjust and I mistakenly turned the carb sync screw on left side to adjust rpm. So, having just done a carb sync and found my folly (and fixed) what if any improvements will I see? I am mainly interested in mpg...hoping this would improve. I already know it idles much better! I really didn't notice any power changes, but perhaps just a slight improvement in vibration at highway speeds? This isn't a critical question as I will find out next run, but as it is raining anyway and I am housebound I thought someone would know. Thanks.
  15. The CB antena wire goes into the black box under the trunk where do U connect the meter to adjust the SWR Gambler:15_8_211[1]:
  16. Gotta admit to getting old or my past coming and biting me but I am getting hard of hearing and probably should get hearing aids. The question...does anyone else use a headset with their hearing aids in or out? Do the aids work ok or will I need to adjust something in the helmet or take out the aids while riding? Any idea what I'm talking about? lol.
  17. I ride mostly solo, and my wife rides separate on her intruder. So, just got a pair of "dual mode" headsets and a JMCB for her bike. My question is on the Venture can I make the audio play thru the speakers, while at the same time the CB comes thru the headset? I can adjust the volume of the Audio, CB and IC all individually. There seems to be separate HS and SP settings under both the Audio and CB menus, but when I change it in one location, the other changes also.
  18. Fellow Owners: I Think My Scoot Is Running A Little Rich. Black Deposit In Exhaust Tips. What Should I Check, Adjust Or Down Right Fix To Eliminate This Or Is It Ok. Horse
  19. I just put a nice set of Samson Shogun turn out slip on mufflers on my bike and I need help getting the carbs adjusted. The dealer says they can't do it because it has after market exhaust on it and the new California EPA law does not allow them to adjust or re-jet my bike. Anyone have a Tech Session going on in Southern California near San Bernardino?
  20. Does anyone have or can they take a better pic of the idle adjust screw on the first gen so I can adjust my idle before i sync my carbs. the tech library has a very fuzzy close up pic of it but I cant realy tell where its located any help is much appreciated as I realy need to get my my mpg and hop up to where its supposed to be. as it turns out when i was trying adjust my idle before my budy got the idle up by turning up all the sync screws so my bike is running all kinds of wierd
  21. I would like to find a fellow venture rider in Central TX, who has an SWR meter and would be willing to help adjust my CB. BikerJohn
  22. I have had a problem with one of the saddlebag latches on my 2004 Venture. The latch is extremely difficult to open. It closes just fine but to open it I have to press down on the latch with both hands really hard. Does anyone know about this problem or how to adjust it?

    Headlight

My headlight shines too high, how do I adjust it so that it shines about 5 degrees lower?
  25. ADJUSTING THE HEADLAMP 1. Put yourself on the scooter and position it upright, i.e., riding position. Have the other person measure from the center of the headlamp to the floor of your garage. 2. Measure off 25' from the front of the lamp and draw a line (horizontally that corresponds to the floor to lamp center point) on the wall. 3. Turn your lights on and put them on high beam (not low beam). First, adjust the vertical (with your weight still on the bike) so the light is even above and below the horizontal line you drew on the wall. Then adjust the horizontal so you have an equal amount of light to the left and right of the center point. This should put you "almost perfect" on high beam and low beam. Good Luck.
