I saw a maroon 2nd gen headed east on Layton Ave headed into Cudahy tonight. It was a 2nd gen running side by side with a 2 up Harley, so I had no problem catching up, but there was to much other traffic to get next to then to see who it was. Was it anyone from here?

I have set the 2nd gen gearset into the old 86 1st gen block that I have and so far I do not see anything that looks like it would not work. With some larger diameter gears due to the 5th gear overdrive, I was concerned about clearance problems, but so far, so good. I have set the gears in both halves and will post some pictures. RandyA -

put the bike back together after 2nd gear rebuild and am at the point where I should be able to check operation except something aint right.... So here is the question= put the shifter in what is supposed to be 1st gear and the indicator states 5TH gear???? What the heck is up with that? thanks in advance, mike -

Dont see anything in the Favorite Roads and Destinations for Florida? On Way back from the keys in March, I am thinking about talking Rt 27 on 3/30-31/2012. Took the southern leg of 27 a couple years ago then jogged east of lake okechobee. Was 2nd week of June and the love bugs were terrible. 1. When is love bug season (there are 2?) 2. Would like to do the west side on this trip... Anyone travel it from start to finnish?

I have a page that shows me all the Ventures up for sale on E-Bay. Lately therer have been a lot more 2nd Gens than 1st Gens. Guess they are finally getting tired of the Imitation Ventures.....:whistling:

Hi folks, I helped a friend get a job several months ago that really worked out well for him, and in appreciation he bought me a new F4 windshield for my bike. Well, one good deed deserves another, so if there is a member out there that needs a windshield for their bike let me know and I will send it to you. My oem shield is in good shape, just the normal wear and tear oof 25,000 miles.

I just bought a 2000 2nd gen, still have my 1st gen, gonna semi retire the 84 for now. Yes, big differences but you can get parts for a 2000. My 84 and 2000 are both redheads, I like red bikes!

I've installed new plugs, synced the carbs. Then on a test drive, the MKII sounded much better, better all around performance also. Then at one back road stop light, when I got the green light I throttled the VR when I shifted from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd, of which I can't recall it backed fired in the shifting process, when I left off the gas. Does the Back Fire indicate I need to make an adjustment?

so what are the differences between the 83, which i have, and an 85vr? i found a bike locally, running, but always could use some parts. besides, my 2nd gear just went. will it work? -
yep. 2nd is jerking and today...CLUNK!...sounds like somethings giving out. ive heard mention of this 2nd gear issue, but, whats the fix?

I just upgraded from a 2005 V Star 650 Classic to a 1999 Royal Star Venture 1300. I'm a little dismayed though, it had major electrical issues hidden under the seat and now I am in the process of replacing the wiring harness. I'll probably be posting lots of questions around this as I go forward. One newbie question. What's the difference between 1st Generation and 2nd Generation Ventures?

Is there still a shim kit floating around? I have a 2001 RSV with 25K, it's time for the valves to be adjusted. Can anyone help me out? Is the 2nd gen tool in there too? Send me a PM. Thanks everyone.

I have read many threads that have comments that state their 1st. gen is faster. I thought it was just banter between the two generations, until today, when I read from a fired up member that owns a HD and a first generation. He was tired of a post that he thought was a HD bashing and after he bragged up his HD he closed with a statement that his 1st. gen. would blow the doors off of any 2nd. gen.!!!!! So, are the 1st. generation bikes faster? If so why?

As a winter project plan to fix the 2nd gear issue on my 84. I've read the how-to articles which are very informative. I read somewhere that Yamaha sells a 2nd gear kit for this repair but can't find the part number. Anyone have it?

TWICE Which renewed my membership in the "I dropped my Bike at Vogel" Club. Hmmm Dropped it once on my 1st Vogel trip and twice on the 2nd trip, does that mean I gotta do it 3 times next Vogel???

Hi, Im new to the this site. And have seen the terms 1st gen and 2nd gen. What are the years for them. I just bought an 88 Venture Royale that has been made into a trike, Im getting older and it harder to hold me and the wife up, so figured I would go to 3 wheels when we ride together. Still ride 2 wheels when Im alone. Took the bike in and the mechanic said it needed new carb boots and he is having trouble finding them.Does anyone know where I can find them. Thanks Ron:thumbsup2:

I have a '83 std with a few problems. I have nicknamed the bike Frankenstein due to a busted windscreen that now has some plexiglass stirps small bolts and fender washers holding it together. Question 1: She slips in 2nd gear at wot, doesn't pop out, just slips. Is this the dreaded 2nd gear problem? I have been planning on tearing her down this winter. Most of the plastics are in bad shape. From ebay I have managed to buy both side upper fairings and a trunk shipped for about 250. THe fairings need some repair but not much and much less than the current ones. Front forks need rebuilt, since they are apart might as well put some progressive springs in them. WHen I let off the throttle at highway speeds she seems to want to nose dive a bit, is this normal? I am also having some front brake issues so I will go through the whole brake system. WHen 2 up riding i seem to bottom out the rear shock when I hit bumps, thinking progressive needs to update that as well. I am also thinking of putting Vmax heads and cams on her. Got it apart might as well. RIght now when I start her up she pours fuel out of the overflow hose coming off the carbs. THinking I might need to do some carb work also. Is there any way to rejet the carb? Just kind of looking for a few little performance nuggets. I also read a post that someone cut and tinted a windscreen so that is on my list of things to do. And have her back on the street by March(my birthday). Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions greatly appreciated. -
Finally found a deal to work and I am now the proud new owner of an 89 Venture Royale:cool10:. My 07 RSV is headed South shortly with Grey Ghost. It was with a heavy heart that I had to let the 07 go, but was eased by my new addition. Rode the 89 into work this morning (1st time riding a 1st gen) and it is much different than a 2nd gen, but I loved the way it handled. Gonna get out tonight after work and take my girl for a ride (she already loves it after sitting on it last night)and the kids are quite excited about getting their first ride when they come back tomorrow night.

After reading everything I could find about the clutch basket whine, it seems that I read a viable fix to substantially reduce the basket noise may be in changing the 2nd gen clutch basket to a 1st gen clutch basket? I forget where I saw it, but somewhere I thought I read that one of the 1st gen baskets needs 1st gen clutch parts, while the other uses the 2nd gen clutch parts. I cannot remember if the 1200 or the 1300 1st gen basket could be used with 2nd gen parts. Does anyone know which is which? Just modified my clutch last winter. No change in the whine, but my clutch parts, i.e. plates and pressure plate are in very good shape and I would rather not replace them if I do not have to do that. Thanks.

Gonna have a little get together on 4th of July weekend at my house. BoomerCPO has a couple tires to change and squid and sweetnothing will be comming. Anyone that doesn't have plans on the 2nd of July is welcome to come on over. Beth said she plans on haveing BQ.

While I'm waiting on my coolant bypass-valve parts, Ill ask a question on another wore-out topic. Wasn't the 2nd gear issue on 1st gens fixed under a factory recall in the 80's, or under an extended warranty for that particular issue ? Or did the bike have to actually be experiencing the problem before they would fix it ? If it has been fixed in the past, is there any way at all to tell ? I bought my 83' about 8 years ago and am approaching 100k miles, fairly rigorous miles, most of them by me, and the tranny is as solid today as it was when I got it with 41k on it, so I am thinking that maybe 2nd gear was already done years ago by owner #1. Owner #2 only had it for a couple of years before selling it to me. He knew owner #1 and said that #1 had everything done on it by the dealer since day-one in 1983, even all his oil changes and tires, etc.... I am owner #3. -
I have always loved my avon tires on the 1st Gen and Love them with this 2nd Gen I have enough tread for my trip to Don's Maintenance Day I was planning to get my tires done there You members with the 2nd Gens have a variety of tires .What the max mileage you got from your front and rear tires and what make are they I know that when I had the avons on the rear average wa 12,000 miles on the rear A little past the wear bars

Seems to be a common mod for 1st Gens, I have one on mine; but has anyone seen a need to do this for 2nd gens? Maybe the 1st gen's temp gauge has made us all paranoid OR the 2nds gen's lack thereof had made us all too complacent OR mother Yamaha has done proper engineering and I don't need to worry about it.
