OK after fnding out my supposed better than stock R/R is worse than the stock one, only putting out 13.7V instead of the 14.0 from the stock one, and discovering the aftermarket one gets dragged down worse than the stock one, I have decided to do some research. Did a msearch here but no mention of any aftermarket R/R's!! Sooo, who knows of a good heavy duty voltage regulator for a 2nd Gen?? No, I do not know what brand aftermarket one I installed, I bought it along with the high output stator from Buckeye a couple of years ago but just got around to installing it this spring. It's in the trash right now...

Has anyone with a 2nd Gen approached Yamaha about the speedometer being off ? Was wondering what Yamaha would say if someone made a warranty claim for it.

Did somebody knows where the flashlight relay is located on the Venture 2nd Gen? I don't know if it is below the front fairing or below the side covers? Thanks in advance for any help.

Whats the cost? As in the plasticy thingy that senses what gear your in. I was wondering if that was starting to kick the bucket, as the bike after a long ride (60 miles actually) the neutral light will flicker like bonkers, then go out, and the cms gear # goes away. Gear # also goes away in 2nd gear at times before all this, and now 1st. I'm guessing its time to replace it, yea?

Ok, More questions about 2 Gen Venture: 1st: The tool kit should be so good that Mike decide to keep it. So can somebody tell me what tool are inicluded on it. So I can purchase each one and have them on the bike? 2nd: I 'm looking for Chrome clamp covers to put on the HD pipes I have to hide the clamps on it. Where can I got them? Since I never had the chance to really carry it, and finished to purchased one this is the big detail I forget on this: HOW HEAVY IS THE 2ND GEN IN COMPARATION WITH THE 1ST GEN? I know that is much heavier than my 1997 RS, but don't know the difference.

OK, maby a Stupid Question : But I have to throw this out there ---------- I just bought a New 2nd Gen RSTD. As to the fuel pump. Being as the fuel tank on this bike is " Above the Carbs " IF--- ( just poseing the question ) here, I run a fuel line from the Petcock, to the Carb s Fuel feed point, will " Gravity Flow " of the fuel keep the bike running ??? Or, put it this way, Is the Fuel Pump, really necessary ???? Has anybody ever tried this, simply as a method to get going out on the road, in the event that the Fuel Pump Fails ??? My thinking here, is to make up a tempory fuel line, to carry in tool kit, just in case fuel pump fails, on highway 50 going across Nevada !!!

I have a question since I'm on the migration from 1st Gen to 2nd Gen: Are the headsets from the 1st Gen working on the 2nd Gen? or I need to purchase new ones? What about the J&M for the 2003? Thanks, :confused24:

I have a question that may sound dumb buy here goes anyways. Will a 2nd Gen final drive fit on a 1st Gen? Mine is making some serious noises when maintaining speed but not while accelerating or decelerating. I was looking at some on ebay and just wondered what my options were if I need to replace it. Thanks

And PUHLEEZE let's not have snide remarks from the 1st genners .... (as if that would ever happen) Just wondering about this ... as we all know, some vehicles come off the assembly line at the wrong time of day or week and turn out to be a lemon. Similarly, certain years of a given run of vehicles seem to be better than others so... What year of the 2nd gen seemed to stand out as a better production year than others? Had the least amount of issues, least number of clutch basket whiners, least number of assembly screw-ups, etc, least number of rear shock early failures and so on.... Do we have any stats on this? Any thoughts from ya'll on this? Something for ya'll to jaw about while I'm away to Kruisn Kootenays to keep ya'll out of trouble..

In my thread "My New Thumb Switch Mount" Bongobobny said the my new thumb switch might look like it could fit a 2nd Gen. I know a couple neighbors with a 2nd Gen so for all you 2nd Gen owners if you are interested in a modified version of the thumb switch please indicate so on this thread. It is important that if you are interested that you post so I can get a rough count. If the numbers are good enough my machiniest friend and I will look into it when I return from vacation. Attached are some pictures of the switch on my 1st Gen. I've hooked SW#1 to a set of 1 inch by 2 inch 55 watt Plattium Burners from Walmart. I call them "Can You See Me Now" Lights. My 2nd switch is being reserved for KIC's instructions to activate your garage opener from a 2nd switch.

Does anyone know if the 2nd Gen Venture's Handle Bar has changed since the introduction of the 2nd Gen Ventures. I have been asked by a couple of 2nd Gen owners if I could adapt the 1st Gen Accessory Mount Turn Buckle Bar for the 2nd Gen Ventures, and possibly for some of the other bikes in this group. I got to looking at the 2nd Gen Handle Bars and it seems like a very simple modification. If there has been no changes then a turn buckle probably would not even be needed. It would be helpful to know if the 2nd Gen Venture Handle Bar has changed or stayed the same. I've including a few pictures of what was made for the 1st Gen. Obviously the ends will need to be modified to accomodiate the 2nd Gen's Bars, but looking at it, looks very much do able. If you are a 2nd Gen owner and would be interested (non committal) in getting in on a group buy after the mods are complete, please indicate so on this thread. This will help me determine if making a prototype is worth the effort. Also if you are an owner of another bike an would also be interested one for your bike, please indicate the bike model and year. Your response would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone here buy a '84 Venture Royale sometime around 2005 from Hacker's? Two tone gold, ran real go-o-o-o-d, heel/toe shifter and some other stuff. I think they fixed the 2nd gear problem before setting it out to sell. I know who traded it in for a V-STAR 650.

I'm new to the Venture world and will be installing a 1300 transmission in my 83 to fix and upgrade the 2nd gear issue. I figure since I'll be there anyway, this may be the perfect time to upgrade the starter as well, along with starter cables. I'd like to go to the newer 4 brush starter if I can get one cheap enough. Been looking at them on ebay it seems very doable. From what I've read, it sounds like any 2nd generation or newer will work, so this means anything Yamaha Venture from 93-2012 will fit. Am I right? -

I have read about the problems with the 06/07 2nd Gens and the basket whine. I know that friends don't let friends buy 2nd Gens ( hey just couldn't resist ) But my friend wants me to go look at an 06 with 53K miles. Supposedly they want $4,000.00 for it. The price seems good, even a little low. What should I look for on an 06 ? What speed is the whine audible ? Anything else ? Probably no records as it is being sold at a local pawn shop and they have had it for a while. If I get the VIN, wouldn't the dealer be able to pull records ?
