  1. Don,

Jeannie and I wish for a positive outcome for both Eileen's and your current health issues. Through your vision this forum has not only taught countless thousands about the Venture motorcycles, but more importantly that total strangers from across the globe can interact with respect to each other, even at face to face at events across the country. The friendships created because of Venture rider .org  are a true testament to your leadership and tech skills.  Weather you continue or pass on the reigns, just know you can always call on many of us to help you if and when you are in need.   My tech skills are just good enough to really screw things up so I'll stay out of the way on that issue.

  3. I mowed with a Grasshopper while working for the school, I was not impressed when comparing it to the front mount Scag we also had  at the school.

Well, my wife got me thinking about a new mower but after a little consideration, I really don't need one.  I currently have a front deck Woods Mow 'n Machine.  22 HP Kawasaki motor, 61" front deck with power lift, etc.  It's been, and still is, a good mower.  I like the front deck as opposed to mid mounted because it allows me to get under all the evergreen trees we have that are low to the ground.  I thought I would like to have a new Ferris FX800 front deck but have found that they were discontinued.  There are very few options for a front deck system, Grasshopper and Walker seem to be the biggest players but they are very expensive.  Then I started looking at used but nearly new ones.  My Woods only as about 575 hours on it and most of the used ones have 1200 to 2500 hours on them and they are still asking around 10,000 and up for them.  So, I figure if those are lasting over 2000 hours, mine with 575 hours should last a LONG time yet.  So I'll take a ltttle better care of and hopefully it will last as long as I need it.

  4. I mow with a 4 wheeled Gravely 816 with a 50" deck. It was manufactured in 1973 !  In the time I've owned it, other than oil and filter changes I've rebuilt the engine once and replaced the PTO & belt once. I'd say that's pretty good for a 50 year old mower.  Gravely made a few 4 wheelers that will run a 60" deck.  All attachments are shaft driven by a true transmission internal PTO.  I fully expect this mower to outlive me.   You could find a nice one with a 60" deck and 48" snow blower for about $3,000  The only Plastic on these tractors is a few bushings, the headlight lens and seat cover.

What happened to the old one?

When my regulator/rectifier went bad it fried the CB section in the radio,  I was given another radio with a damaged plug, I want to replace the damaged plug on it,  using my damaged radio to show me where each wire goes in the new plug. Knowing me if I take the plug off the old radio I'll screw up when replacing it!

  6. Is the seating position lower than before rick did the mod?  I have a stock pillowtop, it also is split at the seam in a few places. Since I'm vertically challenged a seat that sits lower would be welcome here.  If Luvmy40 passes I'll send some pics of my seat if you're interested.

  7. I know how you feel Don,  we did the same thing 3 years ago.  We cut our square footage in half and went south far enough to get maybe 1 snow a year.  We  were in our previous home 32 years and let me tell you,  at least double the time you think it will take to sell off what you do not want to take to the new place.  Good luck finding the next place.

Visable is a great alternative, but keep in mind, you can only connect 1 device to the hot spot at a time, deal breaker for me   needed for wifi   but it works great   trying mint mobile now   no limit to how many that can connect

You can teather a mobile wifi router to your phone and get around the hot spot limitation.   I used a GLnet Slate wifi router.
