  1. A huge thank you to StuD for rebuilding my forks! Now I can get them back on this weekend and hopefully be ready to ride when the sun comes back.
  2. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/93-old-florida-woman-retires-her-64-mercury-204007316.html She has finally retired driving but the Ford seems to be going strong.
  3. Thanks Larry. Let me see what else develops. I already imported the parts from the US and now to carry them back across the border and ship them to you might raise some eyebrows at CBSA. The bike sure likes sitting on your lift adapter although I much prefer it with the wheels on the ground ready to roll.
  4. I have read some much and learned a ton on this site. I live in the Metro Vancouver, BC area and have 99 RSV suffering from leaking forks. I have them out on the floor and have purchased all the replaceable seals, bushings, oil, as well as new progressive springs. Now work got super busy for me so I'm worried about getting the forks rebuilt in time for riding season. Yes, I'm a little intimidated too. Does anyone know a decent mechanic that can rebuild these for me so that I can get them back into the bike in the next few weeks? I don'd mind paying, I just want it done right since it was quite a bit of work getting them out and I have no desire to do it again. Much appreciated! Peter
  5. Thank you both FLB and Straycat!! I had already guessed at the seals and ordered them along with my valve cover gaskets. I had missed a few though so I emailed and asked to add to the order. Now to search for some Progressive springs to go in there while I have them apart and wait til Ruffy is done with that deluxe tool
  6. Well it looks like I may need the tool. I have my bike on the lift waiting for the valve adjustment tool and I see a spot on the floor below one of the forks. Fork is wet. Can anyone tell me the seals and/or bushing to order so that I am ready for the tear down? Thanks!
  7. Hi Jeff. How are you making out with the valve adjusting tools? I am definitely interested in one since I can't find one in western Canada or Pacific North West. I have my bike apart and need to change all of the intake shims. Thanks.... Peter
  8. My wife and I just returned from the island of Molokai HI. There are some pretty good deals on Alaska Air from the pacific northwest but I was looking for a better deal. I thought I would check to see what Google suggested. Here is what it told me. Definitely take a little longer but it may be cheaper! Hope you enjoy HI.
  9. I'll get at polishing the chrome tonight. Reminds me of coming back from Vancouver Island one evening last summer. Those that have come across on the Horseshoe Bay ferry know that it is a pretty stiff climb for about a mile once you leave the boat. They pile all the bikes on the front of the boat so they come off first. Nothing ahead of you but 4 lanes of clear tarmac. I was closest to the ramp with about 1/2 a dozen very load HDs. We mostly hit the ramp together but they made such a racket that I goosed it as soon as I was on the pavement. As did they all. They chased me all the way up the hill and were a quite a bit quieter when I got to the top. I chickened out (or wised up) when the speedo passed 100 (U.S. Bike) and they all went screaming by us about a 1/4 mile later. Funny thing was, my wife was on the back and we had the bags stuffed to the max with my dufflebag on the rack. She never said a thing. Now, I'm trying to remember if the chrome was polished.
  10. Darnedest thing. My friend left for Edmonton where he was going to spend 2 weeks sitting around. He thought he would do further testing there. He fueled up on his way out of town and the oil indicator went off. He said it never lit up again all the way to Edmonton, about 12 hours north. I guess we'll see what happens on the way back. Thanks for your help!
  11. Thank for the info. We'll work on getting covers off to see if we can find the connector to do some testing. It looks like the wire from the sender disappears inside the frame right next to the exhaust pipe. Can't really see where it goes. It may have rubbed through somewhere and grounding. I'll post our findings once we know more.
  12. Thanks Gary, I can only see a white wire that is a single with a butt connector. Could that be it? If I unplug it, what should the indicator do? I am suspecting the sender unit, do you know if you can check it with an ohm meter? Peter
  13. I have a friend who is visiting with his 87 Venture. He dropped the bike on the kick stand side a couple of days ago. No apparent damage, so he rode it for an hour after. Everything was fine. Today he was heading to my house and the oil level indicator came on along with the flashing red light. His oil level is at the top of the sight glass and was changed about 1000 miles ago. Does anyone know where the sending unit is for the oil level warning or have any ideas? Thanks ..... Peter
  14. I know I have eaten MSG for years and started avoiding it lately only because of the slight gut ache and sleepy feeling that I get from it. However I don't think that I am obese or addicted to anything that has it. I have the odd Tim Hortons Coffee but never feel the urge to rush back for another one. I like Starbucks as well but enjoy my own the most. This leads me to believe that it's the caffeine I'm addicted to, since I grind my own beans. Many people believe that Cell Phones can cause brain tumors too but I have been using a handheld phone a lot for 22 years and I swear my brain is getting smaller not bigger. I've heard that speed kills but I was on a long empty straightaway once this summer. I cranked the throttle on the Venture and held it there until the speedo ran out of screen. The RPMs were still climbing but I proved that I could live through it. I'm sure we could all come with more than a few of these. I've been taught that I should appreciate the things I enjoy, avoid the things I don't and never live in fear. Oh, and have a little fun any chance I get. Now if only the sun will come out for a few hours on Sunday so the Venture can have a little fun too.
  15. I'll take 2 of those nice mugs if you have them. I just sent the paypal. Thank you very much. Peter
