    Hope it's everything they promised.

They didn't actually promise anything.   The primary issue is lack of work where I am.   I know several of the guys at the place I'm going to and they all seem pretty happy there, plus they're pretty pleased that I'll be joining them.    I'll be coming on board as a senior tech, which means I'll be doing more of the sort of work that will fit my experience and skill set, rather than jumping around on rooftops like I'm still 25 years old.   I'll be doing more direction / supervision, kind of like a working foreman.   They're taking me on, matching the benefits and pay above union scale that I've worked so hard to get where I am now.   That's pretty rare, so I don't think they're expecting me to be a grunt.   I've only 4 years to go until retirement and they know that and are still willing to take me on.

I'm not comfortable with change, but I really should have done this years ago.   They first offered me this spot in 2019, but I opted to stay loyal to the company I've been with for so long, but, like I said, I gotta work or I'll have to start contributing to my health benefits and my pension would suffer without full time hours.

It's a necessary move.   Even the people I'm close to in management with my current company are aware that I'm leaving and say I'm probably doing the right thing.

They even floated the idea of paying me 40 hrs a week, working or not to keep me, but i declined    That could only last for so long.

I'm sure I'm doing the right thing.     I hope....lol...  Only 4 years to go....

  2.   After 26 years working for the same company, it's time to move on.    Things have been dicey for the last few years, but at this point they can no longer offer reliable year 'round work.    I was hoping to retire here, but the bottom line is I gotta work.

    SO

I"ve accepted a positiion with another outfit;  they're matching my benefits plus a little bump in pay scale..

Sad to go but it's necessary.    I'm starting to get a little excited about it though as my duties will be a little different, in a good way.

      Wish me luck.

  3. I keep thinking I'd like to do a Micro Rally up at the cabin in North Central PA but life keeps getting in the way.  I'll be retiring in 4 years and moving closer up towards the cabin and will try to get it done then.

Great area for riding, but the cabin and property won't allow for a bigger event.

I put the pic of Lakelands business card on here with phone number, they don’t use online reservations anymore. I didn’t realize y’all stayed there, I thought you were at Kenlake Lodge last time.

      You are correct.

I reserved lot 68 at Kenlake.   Thursday through Sunday.   Going to try it with the motorhome this time.

    Which place did you check?

Wiz texted me and said Fin and Feather was filling up fast.
    Kenlake was at 50% yesterday.
    Lakeland was almost empty.

    Lalkeland....where we were last time.

  7. I had an emergency HVAC call Wednesday for a site in South Bend IN.   (I was working in Columbus, OH at the time)   Headed up that way, 4 1/2 hours later, as I was arriving, they told me they got the issue resolved, so I could turn around.    I went to the site anyway, and went up on the roof to see what was going on, and it was COLD.....Glad they had it just about done when I got there.    Turned around and drove home.   South Bend, and Mishawaka looked like pretty cool towns, ....but I'll visit in the Summer...You can keep that "lake effect" weather.

  8. Actually looking to ride MORE when I retire.   I've a First Gen that needs a little TLC, mostly with carbs.   It's been sitting nearly 10 years with the same gas in it.  Yes, I gave it a heavy dose of Seafoam, but it can only do so much.   I plan on going over it in a few years when I retire, and will have the time and a decent garage to tinker in.

My Second Gen.  '06 Black Cherry, (The fastest color for Second Gens) runs just fine and while I don't have time to ride as much as I'd like, it's very well maintained, with only stabilized ethanol free gas, battery tender and it sits in my temperature controlled and dehumidified pump shed.   I'm planning on keeping it until I can't do the 2 wheel thing anymore.

I may end up with a Can-Am also once retired.   I'll feel safer with Lisa on the back if I've 3 wheels.

That radiator guard would look GREAT on my Black Cherry Sweetheart.

Thanks for livening things up a bit.

    Hey John,

Where would this event take place? I am assuming it is in Ohio, but I thought if we nailed down the event site, we might get a bit more interest in it. I for one have been an "Avid" Cigar Smoker for pretty much my entire adult life. Unfortunately, due to recent events, (Heart Attack, Bypass, etc.) I have been left to Vape from time to time. BUT I am always up for a good Meet and Greet! Count me in!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention,

    Earl

They haven't given specifics, other than in the Poconos'.    When they used to have the Cigarnival event, it was in Easton, PA, just West of Philly.   The way the event went was that to attend you had to buy a ticket, which was in the neighborhood of $400, but they'd give you a small duffel, and you'd walk by all the cigar makers booths, where they'd all hand you one of their cigars.   You'd end up with at least your ticket price in value of premium cigars.    The food was prepared on site with a few barbecues going, and the beer was included,....I can't remember if we had to pay for liquor drinks or not, but of course, you'd tip the servers.

I paid $20 for a raffle ticket once and won a 2 minute run through the warehouse, which was about the size of a Home Depot, and could keep as many cigar boxes as I could carry out.   I ended up with $2300 worth of cigars.    That kept me going for a while.    They also had raffles where you could buy tickets and the give aways would go on for hours.   TVs, electronics, humidors, cigars, swag and such.    Everyone at the event was cool, having a good time, drinking, smoking and socializing.

When they release the particulars, I'll post a link.

  10. Cigarnival was a great event.   Lisa doesn't smoke and dosen't much care for the smell of cigar smoke,  ....(who does?)....but she enjoys the event, as did a couple of other people I've taken who don't normally smoke cigars.    The food, adult beverages, and the entertainment made it a fun time.

I dunno how this event will stack up, but it's definitely piqued my interest.

  11. Lisa and I used to go to Cigarnival, which was an event hosted by Famous Smoke.  It grew every year until it got to be more than they wanted to deal with.

    (1000+ people)

It was a great event, with cigars being given away, great food and bikini mamas' walking around as beermaids.   I've gone with Lisa, I've gone with friends, we took the motorhome and parked it on site for the 2 day event.    We were saddened by their decision to stop doing it, although we understood why.

I just came across this teaser from Best Cigar Prices, which says they're going to have an event in May, although there's no details offered yet.

Seeing this got the tiny, rusty, worn out gears in my head to thinking....."Wouldn't it be great to get together with any of the VR family who may be inclined to attend such an event?"    Either to simply enjoy the event itself, or maybe mix in some rides....or I dunno what. ....Any input appreciated.
