  1. Hey Tyler, Welcome to the VR.ORG Forum! I recently had a triple bypass surgery, but am feeling much better now. If you would contact me at:   skydoc17@gmail.com     we can chat about what year your bike is, and what I can offer you.

I apologize again for the delay in getting back to you,

    Earl  (skydoc_17)

  2. Hi Scott,

Sorry it took so long to answer you, I work second shift. with over 73,000 miles on my 87' VR I have never heard a loud whine on the decel. The First Gens. do have a lot more tranny noise than my 1100 Honda V65 Magna. When you had it on the center stand was the noise comming from the back of the engine, tranny area or was it comming from the drive shaft, rear end area? Off the top of my head, If the noise is in the tranny area, try an oil and filter change. If the noise is in the rear end area, then drain and refill the rear end lube. There is also another problem area in the rear and that is the splines that are on the end of the drive shaft that mate to the rear Ring Gear. That is a much bigger job and requires removing the rear wheel and seperating the drive shaft from the rear end to grease the splines. I usually do this when I replace the rear tire. I have never had the dry spline problem myself, but most say it is a noisy affair that leads to damage to the DS splines and rear Ring Gear. Not hearing the noise myself, It is hard to say if what you are describing is "normal noise" or something worse. If it has been a while or the bike is pretty new to you, you may want to take care of the Items listed above and see if there is some improvment. Or we could meet up somewhere, switch bikes and see if the noise is the same on mine. Keep me posted on what you would like to do and I will help any way I can.

    Ride safe,

    Earl

  3. Hi Scott,

Welcome to the VR family. I live near Altoona, I understand you live near Greensburg, perhaps we can take a ride sometime. I have an 87' VR, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Best of luck with your new bike,

    Earl

  4. Hi Jason,

Thats a very nice 87' VR you have there! Ride Safe, Earl and Jean.

  5. Good Morning Steve,

Please give me a call if you ever make it down to this area, It would be a pleasure to meet you. I can offer you lodgeing and a chance to tinker in the garage. I work 2 to 10 weekdays but am off most weekends. There are quite a few twisties down this way and a few Dairy Queens as well. Send me a PM if I can be of help.

    Earl and Jean

  6. Hi Paul,

Looks like we are pretty close, I live in Duncansville, near Altoona. Maybe we car go for a ride sometime. I switched all of my brake/clutch fluids to that new dot 5 and everything works better now. Oiling the linkage also sounds like a good idea, since it started after the wash. Drop me a line sometime, I have an 87' as well.

    Earl

  7. Hi Steve,

If you have any questions about your brakes, send me a message. The whole "linked brake" thing is a pain as far as I am concerned. I have started a project to delink the brakes, I'll let you know how it goes.

    Earl.
