  1. I'm going to ask a obvious question. Is there anti-freeze in the top plastic tank? If you had any kind of water leak anywhere that tank would be empty. I'm going with Dan on it is probably left over 2nd gear pieces which includes that thrust washer that prematurely wears out. Can you see any big pieces floating in the filter? Tear it up and have a good look. If its running quiet and not missing water run it. Like has been said these engines are normally bullet proof. There was a member here years ago that had a V-max and a Venture in Germany he used to go to meets over there where they would intentionally fry the v-maxs rear tires over and over in some kind of competition. That right there was a testament to the toughness of these engines. If its a bad engine I'd buy another on e-bay before I'd rebuild it. It would be quicker and maybe cheaper. But that's just me.:2cents:

  2. We have some friends that stopped over a few years back in their new car and asked us to ride to the tasty-freeze with them so we do. On the way there he tells us that he has to go back home to put a tire on his daughters car when he gets back. He tells us that she was following a large group of Harleys down the interstate when she got the flat tire. There was a bolt stuck in the center of it. Needless to say his thoughts on Harleys was none to good. Well we get to the tasty-freeze and a Harley rolls up about the same time as us. The guy shuts it off and goes to get off and I kid you not the turn signal lens falls off on the pavement. Needless to say we all lost it laughing. The guy reached down picked it up and just set it back on the turn signal, no screw fix at all! From then on I always have it in the back of my mind when coming up on a bunch of Harley riders riding in a group I pass them as fast as I can.:bikersmilie:

  3. I've seen worse ones but this gets the message across. :rotf: http://a57.foxnews.com/images.foxnews.com/content/fox-news/auto/2018/03/26/biker-buries-skeleton-in-pothole-protest/_jcr_content/par/featured_image/media-0.img.jpg/931/524/1522064133893.jpg?ve=1&tl=1&text=big-top-image

  4. That's cause you done created what is known as a negative vacuum with your, "gotta mow more comment" DanL.. Life has taught me that vacuum's are like most other things in life, there are positive vacuums (like the type used in making our V-4's run) and there are negative vacuum's like the one you inadvertently created with the lovely Warden.

I know you know enough about x4 carb vacuum's to make the V-4's hit on all 4 so I wont tell you all I know about those positive vacuum's but I think some study into negative vacuum's may be in order.. Not just for your benefit but also in a refresher course for your side kick up here in Michigan cause its almost time to ride and, for me anyway, that indicates a high probable time for producing negative vacuum's around here so,,, here goes..

Basically, this is how it works.. Anytime you or I remove, or even attempt to remove, any form of suggestion coming from those holding life and death over us or, in a lesser value, who hold final decision making power over us, we create a negative vacuum if we dont instantly and immediately replace the suggestive move with one of a higher esteemed value.. I know you know exactly what I am talking about but I probably should give an example of what I speak..

    Example:

If, instead of stating that "planting grass creates more mowing" and thereby creating a negative vacuum that was sucking you towards lodging in that perverbial dog house,,, perhaps a comment like "I REALLY like the way you are thinking here Dearest Warden of mine and I can see where we need to get something over that dirt so mud quits finding its way into the house"... This first return comment is VERY important because it lets them (the Boss) know that we heard them and we think they are of superior intelligence and so on and so forth.. Next phase is what I call the "willing to spend" phrase and usually involves a little math.. Here is how it works:

You have cost out what seeding, planting, maintenance and so on will cost over the next 25 years and then build a cost comparison between that and covering the yard in 4 inches of concrete at this present time.. It is legal to use cost accounting and depreciation factors when doing this IMHO.. If needed for producing accurate sounding figures to put you over the top of proving the concrete will be the better value in the long run = any good MALE accountant can help with this..

Once you have gathered this info (some of our brothers successfully skip the above advanced method of creating positive vacuum and just spew out numbers but,, in your case as in mine DanL',, I STRONGLY suggest that you make sure your numbers jive BEFORE you produce them as I have a hunch "The Warden" is like Tippy and already on edge having been married to us for over 20 years) then it's a simple matter of presenting the upscaled, positive move comment that will create the positive vacuum that will fill the void in the best interest of both parties. I would say something like:

"Even with the added cost of the go carts to run around the go cart track on and fuel to operate them, at the 25 year interval we will still be $3600 ahead of the game and LOOK at all the fun you and I can have chasing each other around on the concrete while knocking any dirt/sand heading for the house off the track with the brooms I will tie wrap onto the back of the go carts".. Saying like that while your bolting a V-4 out of one of those Ventures in your garage into a recently built go cart frame with a little license plate on it that says "The Warden" on it is SURE to create positive vacuum!!

    Hope this helps!!

Puc, Tip puts up with a lot doesn't she? But I like your thinking.:happy34:

[TD=class: postbody overflow_content, align: left]I had to run some errands this morning and on the way home a Jeep SUV type car merged onto the highway right beside me. Apparently it had just been in an accident and the front bumper was angled upward above the level of the hood and one of the front wheels was missing its rubber tire and was just running along on the metal wheel. Pretty crazy. It did eventually pull off at a gas station, rather than continuing on the highway - I guess the driver must have noticed that something was wrong! Ya gotta wonder sometimes!

Yamaha prototype. Hey they didn't listen to us on the third gen.:confused24: One of the craziest things the wife and I seen on a car entering the thruway beside us, I believe in Rochester, N.Y. that you could see the drivers left foot and the bottom of the drivers seat hanging down underneath the side of the car from it being rusted out. :yikes: He was driving like a madman, I let that Darwin award future member go.:duck:

  6. I have seen the same thing with my tach. I went so far as to tear the tach apart to see if it could be rectified by lubing it up. It can be loosened up to work more freely for awhile but it would go back to its sluggishness self when the weather became colder. I am tired of fighting it and just ignore it. After riding for awhile it will begin to act like it should. I was told that a sluggish tach could be a problem with the TCI box. To see if this was the problem I bought a used box on e-bay. The tach still acted the same. I upgraded to the programmable TCI box by ignitech some years ago and still have a sluggish tach so I do not believe that was the problem ether. It is just tired. The tach gets its signal from the number 2 coil which could I suppose be a problem but my venture runs tip top with mileage in the 40's and all cylinders firing and coming up to temperature correctly using a infrared temp gun. If you find a long term lube fix for it I would be interested in what you used.

  7. I know why you chose a spider. Security in your riding parameters. Nice ride Tom. It is a nice looking machine that lets us older riders still CTF2Ws. Why doesn't Yamaha come out with one?:scratchchin: With the old venture motor and a few newer upgrades I would think it would be a reliable contender for us ageed riders. :backinmyday: I guess they didn't listen to us on the Venture replacement so a totally new line of motortrike is totally out of the question.:buttkick:
