  1. First let me clarify I work full time on an AFB and support a number of other bases, but I am just a contractor supporting the real warfighters, so the praise belongs to them. That @cowpuc is an F-35A being piloted by Major Wolfe. https://www.388fw.acc.af.mil/About-Us/Biographies/Article/2098569/major-kristin-beo-wolfe/

  2. @skydoc_17 @cowpuc I’m working on getting you that info…not too long into the ride I remembered to turn in the tracks mode on my new Garmin. Now getting that data to transfer to another devise and make sense is another learning curve. I will say 90+ % of the ride was backroad mountain vista but still 4th and 5th gear. Interesting thought though today on slow speed vs high…on the ground that makes sense but in the air I’m thinking slow speed is burning waaaaayyyy more fuel. From my Bases air show today. 3. I have to make a list, then edit the list, empty the trailer and the bike, pack according to the list figure out that it will not all fit, redo the list, empty everything back out, repack, figure out I can fit more, redo the list and start all over again till it all fits, finally throw the list away then pack from what I took last time.

  5. I would suspect that your turning issues may stem form the fact that the car tire has a flat foot print across its tread and is not designed to lean the way a motor cycle tire does. So when you attempt to do figure eights you are taking a tire designed to ride only in the upright position with a flat tread to ride up on the outside corners of the the tread, were a MC tire is designed to be able to run on its outer tread surfaces when a bike is leaned over. The feel you get may be the result of conflict between you forcing the tire to run on its outer edge and the tire trying to maintain a flat foot print which would result in tire squirm, so there may in fact be nothing wrong with the bike itself. Also a car tire would have a heavier carcass which means balancing the tire is more critical and were we can get away with static balancing a MC tire, a car tire should be dynamically balanced. a good indicator is when you get a speed related vibration which usually creeps in as you approach a given speed peaks and then fades some as you surpass that speed. Finally since car tires generally run in pairs a single car tire may induce a type of tread wonder and could result in a tail wobble, as could an unevenly mounted tire. On commercial trucks we have often had to break down and remount a tire because the driver experienced a front end vibration from newly mounted tires.

  11. Well put Earl.. An interesting side note here. I LOVED running the empty spaces out west on my MK1's in triple digits. One sniff of that wonderful desert air and all my MK1's would be begging me to give them some rein and let em buck, which I liked to oblige. After the kids grew up and moved on to lives of their own so they were no longer riding with me and Tip started owning the back seat she immediately noticed this phenoma and after an afternoon of 115 across that vast openess said "I am really not comfortable with these high speeds" to which I said "well if your not enjoying this I am not enjoying this" then I said "so,, pick a speed limit you are comfy with and thats where we will ride".. Remarkably. Tip picked 100 mph as her roll of comfort lol. So from that day forward, unless she was leaned back on Tweeks rear trunk and sleeping , Tweeks got governed at 100. As @skydoc_17 mentions, maintaining those speeds always showed reduction in economy. We dropped from +40 mpg to below 30 mpg, usually around 28 mpg.. Now touring in Trooper (who seems to have aquired the same taste for remote desert region high speed travel), our Hybrid car, our highway mpg of +60 also drops significantly when moseying along at 100 mph. It drops to 51 mpg in that same senario so it seems Earl, your thoughts on the matter apply equally in the science of miles per gallon analyzing..

  12. Hey Tom, I was wondering what your average speed was on your trip. For me, if I ran much above 65mph, the gas mileage started to fall off pretty quick. The other reason for lower mileage would be running through mountain twisties in a reduced gear. Also riding 2up with a bunch of "To Go Boxes" full of all that wonderful food you were eating will lower the mileage some! LOL!! Sounds like a great Tom! Earl

  13. Years ago, back in 51 or 52, we had just immigrated from Holland. We lived in a small house with 8 of us, house that maybe today 2 people would find too small and Mom was very lonely for her family. It was Christmas eve. Somewhere during the night she woke up to a sound in the bedroom next to hers, she woke up my dad as well to listen to their youngest singing Ere zij God (Glory to God). She says he sang it all the way through and it totally blessed her and dad. She says it was the best Christmas she ever had. No presents but lots of Presence. I don't remember any of it, other than what she told me. Yes! Sons can bless their mothers in many ways, I'm glad you could bless her in such a manner.

  15. This is the setup on my new-to-me long distance steed. The hose is plumbed under the seat into the tank. Again, gravity feed. The tube coming out is from the Camelback mounted atop the tank. You can see the bite valve next to the water bottle. TT
