Slow computer

My Compaq Presario lap top has gotten real slow. I did the disc cleanup and defragged and restored to an earlier point and it is still slow. I went on to cccleaner and did a scan and it did the usual 3,000+ problems found and it said it had a free download. But when I installed it to do the scan and it found problems, it requires me to purchase to do the fix. Is the free download just for the scan? Any other suggestions?:smash2:

you can try MalWare Bytes, and Spybot search and dystroy, both free, these will clean up any walware that moght be slowing it down. Do you go through a firewall?? good to do, but can really slow down your PC.. how much Free space do you have on your HD ? How many desk top Items do you have open / running???

Give those a try, they might help..

Every link FLB posted I use when fixing computers for customers, I say use them.

I run all three of those apps plus Comodo Firewall. Firewall runs always. MWB I run twice weekly and spybot is always running resident. AVG works good on my system. I have Avast on the other computer and I'm getting to like it more & more.

One note, if any of the scans mention a a generic rootkit or TDSS just move your files off and rebuild the machine from a formatted drive. Rootkits usually can't be completely scrubbed from a system. Once rootkitted the machine can never be trusted again.

Malware Bytes works best for me, the free version is available after a quick click-through in the install, simply decline the full vesion offer.

Luck!
