1. Well I think it is time to come out and confess that I am addicted to relays. It all started about 6 years ago when I added just one relay to my light bar, and then Carbon_One said to try just one more a couple years after that, at first I said NO way. and then I broke down and added the 2nd one. Then after that like two years ago Midlife , Dingy and Carbon_One told me to do two relays at once. then I knew I was hooked. This was one of the threads http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45750&highlight=Cougar The past couple of days Carbon_One has been helping me try this and that with a couple relays and the rest was history. he really knows his stuff and can get you really hooked. so just be careful of him if you should need any kind of help. he will just get you more addicted. JUST SAY NO! I now have to confess that I was telling folks that I now have 6 Relays under the front fairing but I lied and did not say anything about the 2 others that I have as well. one is under the seat for the aux tank and the other is under the right side cover for the horn relay. I felt to guilty to even post pictures of them. here are the one's under the fairing and will make a plate next winter to hang them from. I really feel better now that I have this off my chest. and will be getting some sort of help in the near future for this problem. I know it will be a long road ahead of me but with the help of this group I know I can do it. There is now a total of (EIGHT) personal relays on my Bike. not even counting to OEM one's thanks for listening. Jeff
2. I have made a write up covering some basics on the use and installation of relays in motorcycles. I worked in railroad signaling for 15 years and most of this time I was a signal circuit design engineer. I primarily dealt with relay based design involving signaling and highway crossing protection. During this time, I gained some knowledge concerning relays and the design of relay based circuits. The write up refers primarily with the relays used in Ventures. It does not include any information regarding the starting solenoid or flasher relays. I have included some basic information and definitions regarding relays. There are pictures of the internal workings of Venture and automotive style accessory relays that are available at various auto parts stores. Also included is some basic information involved in wiring and fuse size selection. I have included examples of several practical applications of relays involving Ventures including: Driving lamp addition Passing Lamp addition for RSV’s Headlight cut-out when starting for RSV’s Air horn addition Ignition switch bypass modification for RSV’s To open the PDF file, click on file name shown in blue below. 3. A couple question for you guys who might know off the top of your heads. First, I'm replacing all my turn signal bulbs with LED's. So I need to change my old load resistor type flasher and hazard relays with new electronic relays. Do any of you know right off hand what the electronic equivalents to the FU257CD/NIPPONDENSO flasher relay and the FR-9H22/MITSUBA hazard relays are? Second, Will the self canceling unit still work as it should, or will it have to be replaced as well? If it will need to be replaced, what is its electronic equivalent? Its model/manufactures #'s are YH-001/MATSU****A. If this guy won't work properly after the LED conversion and there is no electronic equivalent, it's no big deal. I usually cancel the turn signal myself anyway. But it would be nice that it work as it should for those times when I forget to turn off the dang thing myself. Thanks, Bill P.S. I already remedied the flashing LED on the dash problem. I simply jumped the reed switches on the computer instead of going with those inline resistors. I was just to damn cheap.
4. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be only 6 volts at the turn signals? I need 12 volts to power an LED light array. After installing them I found them to be too dim, so I put a volt meter on the signal lead and found 6 volts. Is this normal? If I jump to the battery I come up to full brightness. Any solutions? I thought about using relays but is that the best solution? If so what kind of relay should I use and how do I wire it?

6. Wednesday afternoon, 1st gen cruise control failed today, no lights at all but when we swap out the light panel it works fine on another bike. What relays are related to the cruise control? Are they by the headlight assembly? Any other information would be helpful. 519 574-7115
7. Hey guys. A few years ago I switched to LEDs to save some power and changed the flasher relays so I could get some power freed up. Well over the winter I upgraded the stator so the power problems are gone. With that I now find that I want my automatic canceler back working so Im gonna put the original relays back in the bike. I now need to install load equalizers. Problem is where should I put them? Do I need 2, one for the front and one for the back and which one should I get? Help me out here so I can get rid of my grandpa flasher syndrome!!! LOL
8. I've been contemplating buying this product; however, when I look at the installation instructions, I can't "fathom" how to connect it up using a relay either for the switch as a whole or separate relays for each accessory connected. Does anyone have suggestions...wiring diagram c/w relay, etc?
9. I have an 84 Venture Royale. The left turn signal is stuck on (does not blink) I imagine it's a relay. I popped the headlight and can see a number of relays but no idea what they do. Any help gratefully appreciated
10. 89 Venture Royale... I've lost my brake lights. I tracked the problem to a relay behind the headlight. This relay is marked: 1NL OMRON 10Y8D5 It is a metal cased relay with 4 spade connectors in the connector housing. Can anyone help me identify which part to order? There are two relays with this marking, one on the left and one on the right. I have been unable to determine what part this is. The parts fische only shows two different devices in that area of the fairing (Electrical 1, items 9 and 12). One is noted as "Relay Assembly for side stand", the other just as "Relay ASSY". I did verify that this is the problem part by swapping the relays and the brake lights worked. Swapped back and no brake lights. Since the relay wasn't working I took it apart carefully and found a small deposit between the contacts. I cleaned that out and tested the relay in the bike again. The brake lights worked! I epoxied the relay back into it's cover, tested and the lights still worked, so I reassembled the bike. One last test... no brake lights. Of course, our local dealership has no parts in stock and they can't figure out which relay to order from the parts fische.
11. Help, i am trying to identify a connector located on left lower fairing, small two wire white connector, red & black wires. I believe it should eithe be a reserve lighting device or smooth condensor, i do have the two relays & cruise control servo, but where does the mystry connector go, pleses help. Goin crazy,
12. What Does This Do? It Is Located Under The Right Side Cover In Front Of The Two Relays. Horse
13. When stopped or just taking off my engine just stops like you turned the key off. It starts back up as soon as you hit the starter. I have had a hiccup before where it is momentary, but yesterday it would completely die, once while pulling out from a side street, which could have been serious if there had been traffic. I've checked connectors and switches for corrosion or just being loose. The relays in the system have voltage as they are supposed too. The radio nor none of the other accessories seem to lose power when this happens. I'm at a loss.
14. The bike just died, Jeff is trying to help any buddy else want in. Head light, dash, tail, turn work. Jumped starter relay starter worked. will check kick stand, kill switch and emergency and starter relays. any other ideas. Did 600 M trip to WV ran fine , Thanks Dale
