VR Assistance

  1. We are in the process of rebuilding our VR Assistance List. If you can and are willing to offer assistance to a member who is riding through your area, please edit your profile to include that information. Simply click on "Settings" at the upper right of the page and then scroll down to "Edit Profile". Near the bottom you will find a place to select "yes or no" in regards to offering local assistance and then a place to select services that you may be able to offer. Cowpuc just mentioned in another thread another, and maybe easier, way to get to it. Click "forum actions" in the small menu at the top. Select edit profile. Scroll down and you'll see where to select your information.
  2. I ran into another local rider today at Cabela's in Sidney NE. Chatted about the upcoming riding season. He mentioned that last fall he intended to take a ride on his 97 RSTD. However he discovered that his petcock gasket failed, leaked the entire fuel tank contents into the carbs and flooded the cylinders and crankcase. Is this a common problem? Good reason to turn off the petcock when stored? He indicated he was going to have the local dealer look at it. Thoughts, ideas.....
  3. Jim has been nice enough to give me the part number for the disk brakes on the rear of the trike. In the past most of us started out with Brembo's and they kind of wear fast They say now that they have had better luck with the EBC FA266 HH pads and can be purchased at local motorcycle dealers. I found that they will run from 25 all the way to 36 bucks. (for two) I did some research today and found them at Amazon for $33 a set free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=EBC+Brakes+FA266+HH Shipped from Power Sports
  4. I was just reading the headlines on our local radio stations website. Article indicated a local 62 year old rider was severely injured last Saturday morning around 11:00 A.M. A deer ran out of a cornfield and was struck by the 1989 motorcycle. The rider was wearing a helmet, but still sustained injuries to his face and legs. No other information available. I had a close call last week with the Murano. While traveling home from Wyoming in the dark, two deer jumped out on the highway in front of us. I almost took the bike instead of the car, glad I did not. It can happen at anytime of day or night.
  5. While quenching a thirst at the local watering hole, I started describing my problem with fellow rider. The bartender advised he, had a friend who could probable help me out. To make a long story short, his friend came by my house with his truck and tig wielded my bracket in place. He also helped remove a galled bolt. For this he charged me $40. I considered this a bargain as the local dealer wanted $520 for a new bracket but offered me a deal of $399 as I was a good customer. With the tax that would have come to $440!
  6. If anyone plans to purchase an HID Conversion Kit, take my advice .... MAKE SURE it includes the ADAPTER ! This adapter is necessary in order for the HID bulb to fit properly in the stock headlight bulb hole. I ordered a kit from a local (to me) supplier who advertises "plug and play" ... but it did not include the adapter so, it ain't quite plug and play without it. Luckily I was able to find a local supplier of various adapters and it appears one of them "might" work. Barring that, I saw a thread on that "other forum" where Rocky had made one out of PVC.
  7. will a 155/80/15 work trying to find 165/80/15 is just about impossible to find and am trying to find it local as in 250 mi local for the 99 RSTD the 84 venture will never see a ct dont want to order online if i dont have too is why im asking
  8. Just got home from an awesome overnighter to the Okanagan. Amazed that the weather is still so awesome to do such a ride. Beautiful sunny skies and warm temps were perfect for a most enjoyable trip. Stopped at Keremeos for some fresh fruit 'n veggies at one of their local markets and snapped a few pics... 9. I went to the local dealer to get some prices on a few items after I looked in the US online......(Yamahasportsplaza.com) Left Crash Bar - $390.99 CDN - $237.93 US Clutch Plates - $15.99 CDN - $6.95 US Oil Filter - $13.99 CDN - $7.95 US Air Filter - $44.99 CDN - $20.33 US Almost double to support the local CDN dealer......even with freight I'll still be in money. I guess I will have to support the US economy....again! Thought I'd share Keith
  10. With a little bit of searching, I found a cooler thermostat that will work like the Napa THM156. Part THM111 for Napa or Stant part number 14157. This is a 170 degree thermostat. Don't be surprised if Napa, Autozone, Advance, Carquest, etc don't have it in stock. Napa had it in one day for me. If you try another local auto parts and they can't locate the part by the number, the vehicle that this comes from is between 1990 - 1994 Subaru Justy. 11. Any locals (or not so local) going to Port Dover next month??
  12. Kent, thanks for the excellent info on alternative replacement parts. I had to replace my fuel pump this week and was able to pickup a Faucet pump at my local Car Quest.
  13. Have a 2006 Midnight, the control head for audio will sometimes not turn on, will randomly shut itself off or will sporadically change channels. Anyone else have this issue or have experience? Should the controller be replaced or is there maybe a "cheap" fix? It started about a month after warranty went out, and local Yamaha dealer said nothing they could do - for a long while I dealt with it, but it is getting more and more "ghostly" acting over the last month. Thanks for any response
  14. I belong to a small local riding club and decided that it would be fun to join another club (More clubs, more riding, right?), that was affiliated with what I ride. So...I joined the Star Riders club and went onto their forum (It's free, anyway). It took a couple of weeks to hear back from the president who looks after memberships. Then, I noticed on the forum that there was talk of a recent split between the Northern Stars (Canadian version) and the international group. And judging from the various threads on the forum, the split was not quite amicable. At this point they said a new patch would be designed. In the meantime I contacted the pres. to find out who ran the local chapter. It seems that director of the local chapter had quit but that I could ride with groups from nearby chapters about 72 km (45 mi.) to 118 km (73 mi.) away!! I like to ride, but that's a long way to go for a weekly evening ride - and then have to ride all the way back. Yeah, I know, it's all about riding but this wasn't what I wanted. I said that I would be willing to be director of a local chapter and what did I have to do? That's nice said he, we'll talk about it sometime?!? It's been a while since then and as I have checked out their web site, I noticed that the pics are usually of the Star twins and of guys trying to look like a gang rather than a club. Now I'm not criticizing but that didn't look like my style. As well, I noted on the forum that there were already some "discussions" going on about the new patch and how it had been chosen. These folks seem to like to argue! Mostly, they seem very disorganized. In the meantime, I'd had the opportunity to meet and ride with the local GWRRA chapter and attend some of their functions. Really great group of people who like to ride and to support each other. While they obviously prefer their Goldwings, anyone is welcome to join their rides. On one ride, we had, in addition to the Goldwings, a Venture (Guess who?)), a couple of Kawi Vulcans, a Suzuki boulevard and even a Suzuki Burgman! I eventually realized that what really attracted me to the group was their attitude - it was like the one found on this forum. Let's ride, let's have fun and if we occasionally bump heads, well - we'll get over it. So - I paid my money and joined - I get the magazine, the roadside help for my bike and a large group of riders right here in town. I don't plan on getting rid of my Venture but I do plan on staying with this group. As for the Star Riders? Well, if they ever get themselves organized (At least in this neck of the woods) and decide to develop a better attitude then I may look at them again. In the meantime, these GWRRA guys have got all kinds of neat rides and activities planned, so it should be a fun season! Andy
  15. Hello, Been awhile since I've been on. My 1983 is up an running for the season, but I still am having trouble with a "serious" exhaust leak. I mean it seems to be leaking in several different locations. I have purchased new gaskets for all the pipe locations. And I guess I'm going to try and tackle it this coming weekend. But I was wondering if there is anyone out there (in my local area of Akron Ohio) that has done this type of thing before and would like to give me a hand? If you can help out or give some advice and would like to get together this weekend, drop me a PM and we'll exchange info. Thanks everyone.
  16. Hello my wife and I are headed up to the Up on the 2nd of may and will be there through the weekend, would love to get some riding in with local folks. We will primarily ride Friday and Saturday and will be in the Boyne Falls area! Let me know thanks!
  17. Looking for a member who would be interested in doing some work on my bike.(84 Venture). I live in Nicholson, Ga,between Commerce and Athens. I got it running but it still has some carb issues. I'm not lazy or dumb, just busy. I work @ 60 hrs a week, and have other obligations and just don't have a lot of time. The local dealer around here seems to be filled with a bunch of pretentious jerks who have no time to deal with a non-Harley owner. But the main reason is turn around time. I would like to be riding soon, not 5-6 months from now. Just send me a PM if you are interested. Also wanted to add that I will deliver and pick up, plus I will pay cash.
  18. THINGS I LEARNED LIVING IN THE SOUTH A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in the South. There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in the South, plus a couple no one's seen before. If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha. Onced and Twiced are words. It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy! Jawl-P? means, Did you all go to the bathroom? People actually grow, eat and like okra. Fixinto is one word. It means I'm going to do that. There is no such thing as lunch. There is only dinner and then there's supper. Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar. It is referred to as the Wine of the South. Backwards and forwards means I know everything about you. The word jeet is actually a question meaning, 'Did you eat?' You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is, you work until you're done or it's too dark to see. You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH em. Ya'll is singular. All ya'll is plural. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect, or animal. You carry jumper cables in your car - for your OWN car. You only own five spices: salt, pepper, mustard, Tabasco and ketchup. The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local high school sports, the motor sports, and gossip. Everyone you meet is a Honey, Sugar, Miss(first name) or Mr.(first name) You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday. You know what a hissy fit is.. Fried catfish is the other white meat. We don't need no dang Driver's Ed. If our mama says we can drive, we can drive!!! You understand these jokes and forward them to your Southern friends and those who just wish they were from the SOUTH.
  19. Our local police force as decided on Victory brand for their new police motorcycles. We are unsure why they chose Victory so far as we do not have a dealer for them anywhere that does not require a 2 hour ferry ride and a good commute to get to. Victory had made the proposal with the offer to train a local dealership... who all bid against them... to service the new bikes. http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=victory+police+motorcycles&hl=en&biw=1162&bih=667&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=a8eusDhLnjViCM:&imgrefurl=http://www.policemotorunits.com/id272.html&docid=9HLl686JowN9EM&imgurl=http://www.policemotorunits.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/webassets/.pond/VictoryPMPhoto201.jpg.w560h420.jpg&w=560&h=420&ei=zw5tT75s0sqJAs6_hcAF&zoom=1
  20. We will be spending several days with friends in Bowerston, Ohio this spring. They don't ride so they don't know what kind of roads to look for from Bikers. Since I ride a Venture and not a Crotch Rocket, I am looking for midly curvy roads to 'cruise' on, NOT race. Also, any local sights or places of interest. While our friends are at work, we planned on cruising the local area, 'sight seeing'. When we were visiting them last year, we learned of a couple of customs that were different from ours here in Omaha, Ne. - They like vinager on their French Fires, and have something like 'Hot Bacon dressing' for their salads!! BOTH of these really surprised us and we LOVED them. So, while we are out sight seeing, I would like to find some local places to eat that are either differrent or just plain ole VERY good food. We are getting tired of eating at 'Applebees' or other chains everytime we go out of town. So, I thought some of you folks might have favorite places you could point us to. Any suggestions are appreciated, craigr
  21. A VentureRider Flash Mob section. We could mob the local DQ's from time to time.... http://www.kptv.com/story/16977367/senior-citizen-flash-mob-takes-over-store
  22. Hello: Does anyone here on the site have experience with a Nissan Murano? Time to replace my wife's vehicle, she found a one owner local trade at one of our local car dealerships. 2004 with 79K. Excellant condition, SL model with many nice features, new tires. $11,000 is their bottom dollar. We kept it overnight, seems very nice. Runs good, very comfortable. Grandson of course liked the rear overhead DVD entertainment center. Thoughts and advice appreciated....
  23. Well the Shiny One has a new owner, a local guy found it on ebay and get this , he bought it at my buy it now price and gave it to one of his employees for a job well done present. What a nice guy . Kelly was in tears as the guy explained what a great employee this guy has been. I followed the guy back to his shop as he rode my bike so I could give him a ride back to his truck at my house. You should of seen this guys face when the boss threw him the key. The best part is it will be local so I can keep an eye out for it.
