  1. Hi all, I was hoping to get my feet into the new for 2020 Klim Adventure boots and Santa came through. They not only look awesome but are perfectly designed for their intended purpose. All day adventure riding - which means, riding, reasonable off road protection and importantly walking around or hiking comfort. It does all those and more. Of course you can always ask our good friend @cowpuc what he wears but remember that he rides two up on a loaded 1st Gen in the dirt where I would need a Trials bike to contend with the terrain....so where I need a suit of armor, he is protected the by the love of his life sitting right behind him 🙂 Comments always welcome https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2020/11/29/klim-adventure-gtx-boots-review-target-audience-perfection/ Venturefar...
  2. Hi all, As most of you know, I am very fortunate to have met the editor of ultimatemotorcycling.com magazine and he sets me up with cool gear to test. I could be testing bikes too, but I moved 1000 miles away from him and there are very few bikes I would consider doing an ironbutt on..... @cowpuc here is my latest review of an Adventure style boot. I am thinking that many of us have more than one motorcycle and may be interested in this review. If not, " nothing to see here, move along" :-) https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2020/08/20/alpinestars-corozal-adventure-drystar-boots-test-motorcycle-footwear/ VentureFar...
  3. Like some of you might now I was looking into buying some Second Gen carbs that were listed on eBay by Pinwall Cycles. Well I got them for 304 US$ with shipping in USA and am one happy guy. They are already on their way to Earl Harell (skydoc_1). Then Earl sent me a mail Saturday morning and told me he had found some V-Max cams for my bike and was on his way over to Harrisburg to have a look at them. These cams are from a 1989 Vmax and only have 80 miles on them!!! Thats right, only 80 miles! The guy who had them rebuilt the motor, ran it 80 miles, sold the block and heads and had the cams left over.To cut a long story short Earl got all four of them for 200 US$ and now in general we only have the following things missing before we start the project: - (2) Intake boots - Yamaha part number 4XY-13586-10-00 - (2) Intake boots - Yamaha part number 4XY-13596-10-00 -(4) Intake boot clamps - Yamaha part number 4XY-13575-00-00 -(4) airbox boots - Yamaha part number 4XY-14453-00-00 -(4) airbox boot clamps - Yamaha part number 90460-58015-00 - (16) Spring valve inner - Yamaha part number 36Y-12113-00-00 -(16) Spring valve outer - Yamaha part number 36Y-12114-00-00 -(4) fabricated adapter plates (Good old Earl-skydoc_1)) and the Dyna ignition module as well as bolts washersh and stuff. So, if any of you guys and girls have any of the above sitting in your garage and would be willing to part with them then I would surely be interested in buying. I´ll keep you posted as things move along. Friendly regards from Iceland / Norway. Jonas http://www.yamahaofwarren.com/common/images/blank.gif
  4. I stopped for gas today after a short fast run down the interstate, when I was idling waiting for a pump the left pipe starts backfiring. When I got home one of the the left carb boots had raw gas running down it. What is tke likely cause and repair. Thanks
  5. Having recently gotten a bike to rehab that has set awhile I got around to really digging in to it today. Removed the tank and gave it a quart of kerosene to rinse it out. The hoses are a bit checked so they where replaced. Makes sense to at least take off the float bowls and assess whether or not to take it down further. The clamps on the intake boots are loose and the carbs are still a bit snug. The manual makes it sound as if you can remove the carbs right off the boots but I'm a big guy with a large set of easy outs to prove my ability to snap stuff off. Can these be pried up or should I take the boots off right at the head? The only reason I ask is a previous hack covered the boots in some kind of epoxy, I'm guessing they where either split or checked. The bolts are covered and if need be I'll chip away to get them off, just not sure if I need to do it.
  6. '92 VR: I thought I would replace the fork brace with a Super Brace. Shouldn't be too hard, right? My problem is I can't get the Super Brace to fit in between the accordion style fork tube boots. When I look at other Ventures that have the Super Brace, there are no boots on the fork tubes. Instead, they have some kind of seal pressed into the top of the lower fork tube. I need to service my forks anyway, so can I take them down and replace the boots with seals? If so, can I just order lower fork tube dust seals? I will rebuild the forks, so can someone who is experienced in forks advise me on what parts I need to purchase for the rebuild and to replace the tube boots? Here is the link to the parts fiche on Boats.net if that helps any: http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1992/VENTURE%20ROYALE%20-%20XVZ1300DD/FRONT%20FORK/parts.html Thank you so much, Richard
  7. I am not big on endorsing product but I thought I would share this one. I bought a pair of Converse C8874 Combat boots with composite toe in January and I have to say this are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I use them to ride, hike and work with no issues at all. With the composite toe instead of steel it does not heat and cool. 8. I have been diligently reading all the carburetor posts and articles hoping that I would discover the secrets to remedy the problems with mine. I have only been partially successful thus far. I did find vacuum leaks between the boots from the air-box to the top of the carbs. Took it all apart, cleaned and reassembled. Started up and there was still a leak, a boot had slipped off of the carb. I have redone this process several times and the boots will not stay on top of the carbs when enough force is applied to stop the leaks. Is this a problem that is familiar to anyone?
  9. I am NOT taking about when you got drunk and rode naked....Yes....me too ! I did have my shoes on !! Or about helmets. I just purchased a Kaw. Versys and joined their forum. These guys dress for war.... a lot of " made for motorcycle "(Kevlar) coats, pants and boots. I DO have some textile coats and Sidi ( spelling ?) boots from my BMW days and a couple leathers coats, chaps and leathers pants.... BUT..... I wear mostly jeans ( I just ordered 2 pairs of Diamaond jeans ), a tank top and steel toed boots. I carries a leather shirt on the bike for that day it's not full leather coat weather. One thing I always wear are some type of glove. What are you wearing ? Cb
  10. HOW TO INSTALL A SOUTHERN HOME SECURITY SYSTEM 1. Go to Goodwill and buy a pair of size 14-16 men's work boots. 2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine. 3. Put four giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines. 4. Leave a note on your door that reads ...... Bubba, Bertha, Duke, Slim, & I went for more ammo and beer. Be back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls. They got the mailman this morning and messed him up bad. I don't think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside. Be right back. Cooter
  11. Do NOT polish boots on kitchen counter!
  12. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! :sign yeah that: :sign yeah that: :biker:Yes, I wore boots and pants..
  13. For those that have them are you still happy with them and do they have the force flex sole. Also are there any retailers for Milwaukee boots not to keen on ordering them without trying them on. Are they good for all day wear and walking.
  14. I believe it is called the needle daiphragm for the carb, but im not entirely sure. Started my rebuild today and noticed all the rubber boots had holes in them. Anyone who knows that its called would be much appreciated
  15. I once ask a question about riding boots and got this reply. Motorcycle riding boots that are made well should have a wide and thick sole with tall leather tops. Thick sole - to help protect from the very hot blacktop surface. Wide sole - to help stabilize you when stopped with a heavy bike. Tall leather tops - to protect you from the pipes and the motor heat. I bought a pair of Harley Davidson boots and took the copper/brass emblem off from the side of the sole and replaced the emblem with another that a friend made for me that said Yamaha. They say HD on them high on the boot but it is covered by my pants.
  16. Well I got my 93 up running with a carb rebuild, but I noticed the revs slow to come back down, so I figure a vacuum leak. I sprayed carb cleaner around the boots that attach to the head, and sure enough the revs jump up on all four cylinders. I see there is an o-ring in the boot assembly. My question is, can you usually get by with just an o-ring change, or do the boots themselves routinely go bad? The bike has less than 19,000 miles on it, so it has spent lots of time sitting. Thanks.
  17. i just want to say thank you thank you thank you. as you all know i was faceing some real hard times. and im doing some what better. with the great support from to many to name here im doing a little better. its nice to know my lights and internet wont be shut off for at least 3 months with all of your help i paid in advance and my fridge is stocked with food maybe not steaks or even pork chops but its still food. cupboards have soups vegies and basic things. i did spend a few dollars for new socks and a pair of sneakers a man can wear boots just way to much sometimes they get heavy . i may not be out ridding but there is a smile on my face as i know i have a ton of of angels here watching over me. so once again my thanks and prayers go out to each and every one of you sincerly James aka oldgoat
  18. I have been searching tech posts and goggling for just the carb diaphragm boots without the slides and can't find them for my 86, all the older posts with links that sell them are no longer any good can someone tell me if I can still buy them. Tom
  19. Anybody have some suggestions for a front fender mud flap to keep the dirt off the radiator? Also I want to add some hiway pegs to the little front crash bars. I would like an adjustable offset style to put the boots on when freeway riding. Any good suggestions that you have used?
  20. I guess my rear exhaust headers are not supposed to glow, but they were yesterday. The plugs do not show signs of running particularly lean but there is some heat getting back there from somewhere. Currently the carbs are off for a full rebuild, and the front exhaust headers too, to get at the starter. I noticed that one of the headers was very loose in the collector, and this would probably be contributing to the "spitting" back through #1 and #4 carbs. I suspect the butterfly valve seals aren't helping much, the intake boots seem to be sound. Anyway ... I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. I do know that some exhaust headers, on some bikes do have a "glowing" issue, but I didn't think that the Venture Royale had this ... er ... feature. Any thoughts?
  21. I am looking for a pair of ladies boots for my wife. She needs to feel comfortable riding behind me. Also, she just got her own license and so would do so much better if she had a good pair of boots of her own. I would wish for a pair of women's 9 1/2 Gortex zipper boots for a narrow foot. While I'm wishing, I want it all for under $100. It would make a nice surprise for her if I could pull it off for a surprise. Any ideas ladies. Iowa Guy
  22. My wife as a pair of basicly (wore 3 times while riding) brand new black Milwaukee womens Destiny Riding boots. I have attached an ad from ebay showing the exact same boots. They are size 7 1/2 and look brand new. They are free to the first one to request them. All I need you to do is pay for the shipping. I believe it should be around $10 or so but will let you know after I shipp them and then you can send me a check or what ever. here they are: Click on the boot [ame=http://cgi.ebay.com/DESTINY-Womens-Black-Milwaukee-Boots-/120493994859?pt=US_Men_s_Shoes&hash=item1c0e00736b]"DESTINY" Womens Black Milwaukee Boots - eBay (item 120493994859 end time Apr-10-11 08:52:35 PDT)[/ame]
  23. NO NO NO!!! I have a nice pair of RIDING BOOTS. I haven't been able to get them on since my accidents and all the cutting they did on my leg & foot til this week. I finally got my bad foot into the boot but it is too tight to wear. Foot is still very tender. Hurts like he** to get it on but I really want to wear these things for some reason. How can I break in in to that foot? Wearing it is very painfull. If I soak it and wear it dry would it help? Don't know if I can stand it that long. When they put my foot back togather my instep? (top of my foot) came out higher than it was and was already higher than normal making it hard to find Slip-on boots I could wear. I really like this pair of Iron Age boots and would like to make them fit. Any ideas?? I've alredy looked for that spray-on stuff that used to be around but can't find it. I'm afraid of getting the thing on and pressure causing it to swell til I can't get it off!!
  24. Has anyone tried these heated boots from Work Wearhouse? I thought they look pretty good, but a bit pricy. But my experience with Work Wearhouse has usually been great. http://www2.marks.com/productdetails.asp?categoryID=530&start=1&href=%2Fctwnew%2Fmarkprod%2Ensf%2FProductListByID%2F9565EDCCE946C36F802577DA000B4030%3FOpenDocument Brian
