  3. Not Bike related, but some of you may be interested. My wife bought a Humming Bird feeder last month. I hung it on a wire from a tree limb, close to the house, and never seen a bird around it. A friend told me that it has to be hung away from tree limbs. So, Saturday, I moved it and hung it on a wire from the soffit, under the rain gutter, in front of the large bay window. And this morning there was two humming birds feeding. Really an interesting sight. I didn't know we even had these birds in the neighborhood. It sure attracts them. The feeder is first filled with water, then add sugar and some red food coloring. Works like a charm. Now I've got a new unique hobby!
  4. Yesterday I saw with my own eyes the disaster that has befallen the Gulf....and its direct impact upon my home State and the Cajuns who inhabit this area. I don't cry easily but I shed tears when I saw the devastation in the bayous, beautiful wild birds oil-coated and unable to fly....and the great number of those who simply died in a struggle for life. Our Base Camp is in Hopedale,La. There are several thousand people working there to clean the oil booms and get that black crud out of the bayous. Throughout the long day I saw no one goofing off....everyone is going at this cleanup with a fury of human effort. We are busy transporting oil-slicked birds to Ft. Jackson in Venice-La which is 60 miles away from Hopedale. At Ft. Jackson folks there are working 24/7 to clean and save the birds and any other wildlife that is brought in. My Company has 28 specially-equipped vehicles for transporting the wildlife. We are working hand-in-hand with La. Wildlife and Fish to save as much of the wildlife as humanly possible......and we roll 24/7 in this endeavor. Yesterday I had a chance to talk to some of the local Cajuns whose lives have been turned upside down by this disaster. There is not much hope but there is a burning resolve to do what they can to save whatever is possible in this beautiful land that they have called Home for generations. Boomer.....driving hard down here....and to hell with getting a lot of sleep.
  5. ok what are you farmers down here in good old IL giving these birds? just got back from a 50 mile ride me and 2friends. me on the venture. one friend on his new vstar. and a lady friend on a pink crotch rocket yep its pink. we where going down a nice country road here into a little town called tonica. i just got a new bell helmet maroon. and a jean jacket. well we went past this field where a farmer was out there plowing i guess? that field was full of i think are gulls? well we got about where the middle of the field would be. on this road when whoosh the birds took off like the movie the birds. then it happend splat splat splat this nice white stuff hit me and the female friends bike like someone tossed paint at us. my face shield became blured the windshield held some of it back. my jean jacket all down my shoulders and back. her pink bike coverd with it. friend laughing his arse off he got it in his hair. teach him not to wear his helmet LOL so is this something you farmers feed to maybe make the birds crap them selfs to death LOL
  6. It was a gorgeous day here today, went to mid 40s f and sunny so I decided I would go for a nice ride around the parks. Wascana Lake is just starting to freeze over and the birds all seem to be gathering at the edge of the ice, too bad I was in a game preserve, coulda reached out and snagged these geese, they were so unconcerned about people. http://picasaweb.google.ca/friesman1/Nov282009 Brian:banana:

  8. freebird....err Tweety Birds bike seemed to gather tweety birds each morning when he woke up........ musta been the tweety fairy.......
  9. I picked up 2 single shot .22 rifles today. 1. A Remington Targetmaster 510P in really good shape. Has peep sights and very little wear any place. I found out they were manufactured from 1939 - 1968. Up to that time no serial numbers were required, so it is impossible to know how old it really is 2. A Ranger Single shot .22 M-34 rifle. Very good shape, stock finish is still glossy with very few dings. Research showed that they were manufactured for Sears by Marlin. Will be taking them apart in the next day or so... or maybe after I get back from Arkansas at the end of the month. Will take them out and shoot them then. On another note, Went duck hunting yesterday. My partner and I shot 13 ducks total. 8 for me and 5 for him. I even got 2 doubles. We spilt the kills to make sure we shot had the right numbers of the various birds to make the Wildlife folks happy, 2 Drake Mallards 1 Hen Mallards 2 Drake Shovelbills 2 Hen Shovelbills 4 Drake Gadwall 2 Hen Gadwall Morning flight only gave us 3 birds, slow afternoon got us 2, the big run was the evening flight which came in large groups getting us the last 8 in the final hour and a half. Wish we could get a bird for every shot fired...:bang head: would have about 35 birds ! Only my second season hunting and am loving the hell out of it. Started last season with a Remington 870 express 12 gauge. Moved up some this year with the purchase of a Benelli Super Black Eagle II ... What a sweet gun. Yesterday was the third outing for the season. First day 0, Second day 1, Third day, 8 nice progression. Would be nice if I can limit each time. What a day it was :hurts::hurts:

  13. Any Retired Airline folks in the group? This may be of interest-- or a few memories http://www.funstufftosee.com/airlineempires.html I turned many a wrench on several of these birds, sad that most of them have gone to the bone yard. I guess thats part of the reason I keep the old bike running. Its made many a trip to the hanger, at 5 AM to take care of the birds. Probably the most interesting Bird was the Lockheed Supper Connie, If any members remember that fine aircraft. Times have changed--- no hanger at the end of the road these days. Just ride on !
