  1. If you missed it, here's the thread... http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=51178 Well, we just got a call from the agent ... apparently Campbell's Soup will be airing the commercial in Belgium ... and for that, we're getting more money! YIPPEEE!!!
  2. ...so, I'm wondering what type of maintenance things would make sense while I have a good chance. Backstory: I sealed my driveway a couple of years ago and even though I covered the bike while it was sitting in the garage (apparently not well enough), a couple of gusts of wind apparently blew some of the sealer up underneath the blankets. Well, I've tried and tried over the past couple riding seasons to get the sealer off the paint with no luck. It looks like really fine dried water spots all over. It's primarily on the right side of the bike on the saddlebag, both fenders and the lower fairing. Some did make it's way on to the left side as well, though not as bad. Nothing that I can see made it to the tank. Anyway, a couple of days ago I stopped a one of our local body shops who's owner I happen to know pretty well. I asked him if he'd be willing to give me an opinion on what to do. He and one of is body shop guys took a peak. They tried some 'high power' bug and tar remover with no luck. They agreed that whatever got on there apparently etched itself into the clearcoat and the only way to fix it would be to wet sand and buff it out. Well, I'm getting off REALLY easy on the cost but he asked that I bring him all the parts stripped down. Here we are: I removed both saddlebags, complete lower fairing, rear fender (I didn't have to remove the rear wheel), front fender and both side covers. To get the rear fender off I also removed the seats and the bracketting that holds the saddlebags. So, as you can imagine, she's pretty naked. I have a lot of things exposed right now and I thought this would be the perfect time to take care of some routine maintenance. I plan to change the rear fluid but are there other suggestions? How do I grease it up good? Your thoughts are appreciated. Hopefully I'll get my stuff back and can get things back together next weekend so I'd like to take care of stuff over the week or maybe next Saturday. Thanks, Les
  3. On Sunday 3-11-12 my son lost his life on his new motorcycle. He had just purchased a Suzuki crotch rocket on Saturday. To my knowledge he did not have much (if any) experience riding. He was 41 yrs. old and lived in the mountains of N.C. I was not aware that he was purchasing a bike but I wish I had known. I certainly would have recommended him to take the MSF course before doing too much riding. He was on a long straight road with a hard sweeping left turn and apparently ran into so loose gravel according to the officer on the scene. He went into some trees and was killed instantly. He was my first born son and his passing leaves a huge void in my heart. He had great potential and loved life, he loved hot rod cars and apparently loved his new ride. I share this info with you all because I feel you are extended family in a way. Thanks to all for your support and love. I am confident that he will be in the presence of the Lord and that I will some day join him. I offer a link to his memory. http://maconfuneralhome.frontrunnerpro.com/runtime/4031/runtime.php?SiteId=4031&NavigatorId=61569&op=tributeObituary&viewOpt=dpaneOnly&ItemId=1154809&LinkId=221

A guy I work with is a Concours fan and I pointed him towards another one now he needs room in his garage and guess what! he has a 83 with 138k that he wants to sell me cheap. 8. OK folks, I have received a couple of emails reminding me that I have kept you all in the dark about my eye. What can I say, I still have it and it is looking better from the side that YOU see but from the inside, it doesn't work at all. I knew that would be the case though. The vision has been gone for several months now and this latest surgery was just to relieve pressure, stop the headaches and hopefully save the eye from having to be removed. So far, so good. I had an appointment today and the pressure was back down in the normal range. There is still come redness but it is getting better. I am down from putting 4 prescription eye drops in my eyes 4 times a day to using only one prescription 2 times a day so that is good. The doctor said today that they eye looks good and doesn't want to see me again until December. Now that is the Glaucoma specialist. I have an appointment with the cataract specialist next week and apparently he will be removing a couple of stitches that I didn't even know I still had. I thought they were all the dissolving kind but apparently not. I guess that is the irritation that I feel from time to time. Then I go see the eye oncologist again in December for another routine checkup. The bottom line is.....everything is going as expected and I guess that's all good.
  9. Hi all - Read all the posts about the wheel chocks and most deal with Harbor Freight. Anyone hear of this one? Or use it? A bit pricey but apparently adjustable for width. http://steadymate.com/us/product/20/68/steadymate-motorcycle-wheel-chock.html
  10. Measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale at 1:41pm. Ive been hearing reports of buildings shaking and being evacuated. Apparently it was felt as far as Boston. Did anyone feel it?
  11. Apparently some folks have quite a bit of time on their hands. I got an e-mail from the IT guy that runs/maintains one of the servers that I do most of my work on. Apparently 5 of our account passwords have been compromised (that is 5 people with accounts on this system), some files have been accessed and there is some stuff missing. So, apparently my 16 character password that is case sensitive including symbols, numbers, lower case and uppercase letters (and nothing that even resembles a real English word, phone number, address, etc) wasn't quite good enough - or someone just really wanted to get in. Now with that said, I'm pretty sure the joke is on them because most of the stuff in that account is either incomplete data analysis (since this particular experiment is still ongoing) and the rest is stuff that is completed and I either already have it published or it is in the process of being published - so they really have nothing to gain from accessing my junk. Anyways - I'm glad I keep my stuff backed up, so I can restore everything and not think twice about what may have been monkeyed with, but regardless it is still a little bit irritating and confusing. I just don't get some people Okay, I'll shut up and get back to work
  12. Hello all. Hoping someone can help me. Up here in Coldwater Ontario Canada (yes, I do know Dick Shrivels from Coldwater- haha), I have been experiencing progressively worsening fuel mileage, backfiring on deceleration, etc. So, when I had some service done before, by the supposed 5 Star dealer in Midland Ontario (not to name names but if you recall the nursery rhyme about the name of a boy and a girl who "went up the hill to fetch a pail of water), they apparently put the caps on too tight & not straight or something, wrinkling 2 of the carb diphragms and the needle almost sitting sideways (so I am told). Apparently the diaphragms are backordered from yamaha canada until June 6. I have called around to several dealers and they do not have any in stock. I stopped going to that dealer and went to another shop that their service manager went to. He was getting his parts from a Yamaha dealer in Barrie who supposedly told them the parts would be in yesterday, then today, until...hmmm, not until June 6. Any of our US brother or sister venture riders able to get your hands on 2 diaphragms? Part number 5DM-14940-00-00 Are there any compatible aftermarket versions? The diphragms are supposedly not torn, but they are wrinkled. They are putting the bike backtogether so I can use it and day that the performance & fuel economy will be much better but I will need them replaced. This is supposed to be my anniversary weekend motorcycle ride with my wife leaving yesterday with plans to ride around Lake Michigan - but we are now 27 hours behind schedule and the bike will be ready 2 hours from now. She has taken two days vacation and pissed off...good times! Thanks for your help in advance. My email is trevor.storey@rogers.com and goes to my blackberry if anyone has any information or leads that can help me out. Thanks
  13. At the Toronto International Bike Show today, I saw an 05 RSV with a Voyageur trike kit. It was in amazing condition, with only 1750 miles on it. I talked with the current owner who said it was owned by the proverbial "little old lady who had health problems". Apparently, her husband had the identical bike/trike. The owner is asking $13,500 obo. Don't know whether that is a good price (especially here in Canada as new RSV's are over $20,000 at the show. Also don't know whether these trike kits work well. Apparently it is easily removable so the RSV can be rode with or without it or it could be sold if there is a market for these. Interested in opinions on these kits as well as the price. Also, I have the guys contact info if others are interested. I have tried to attach some pics.
  14. Up until yesterday afternoon, I was the Operations Manager for a small high-tech auto parts manufacturer. We had certainly seen some tough times over the last 18 months, but I used the slower pace to coach/teach all the employees/supervisors/managers to function more as a team and be fairly self reliant. I had been told I was to assume a higher role in January, and wanted the Operations side of the business to look after itself while I focused on getting our Engineering & Sales back on track. Well, apparently, the budget we had submitted to the parent corporation was unacceptable to them and they demanded more cuts. Since Operations was running smooth and the team could handle almost anything on their own, guess who was now redundant... Anyways, my direct boss seemed quite legitimately upset by it... moreso than I was really. I certainly got a decent package (compared to the current environment), so I am ok for a few months. But geez, you do exactly the right things, and look where it gets you...
  15. Ladies (and others...) I just want to warn you what happens when you send your guy off to a rally without you...I found these pictures on Don's camera when he got home this morning! AND IT'S NOT ME!!! Apparently someone likes giving rides to the ladies. LOL!
  16. Just recieved a phone call from Alace Gorom...James passed away today....apparently of a heart attack....he will be missed....
  17. Hey all, Can anyone tell me the size of the steering head nut I need to loosen to adjust my steering head? Don's got a great write up in the tech section, but I apparently don't have a large enough open end wrench and I don't want to use channel locks and risk messing up the bolt head. Thanks for the help.
  18. First off, after 1800 miles on my new RSTD the rear end started clicking today. Taking it Tuesday morning to the dealer to have rear splines greased and some part filed down. Apparently this a common problem so not real upset. Anyway, my front brakes squel like a pig when coming to a stop. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
  19. Apparently Aprilia knows how to get some power from 1000ccs in a V-4. http://motorcycledaily.com/22february08_aprilia_rsv4.htm
  20. I saw this on the delphi forum. Is this really finally available, and just in time for winter and the additional heated gear?? Buckeye Performance apparently has these now, but not listed on their website yet. http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ http://forums.delphiforums.com/vrider/messages/?msg=5874.1
  21. All I need is one last piece to fix the fairing and finish my parts hunt and I hit the refresh to see the price go from 30 to 122 bucks and pretty much right out of my reach. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-93-1989-YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-RIGHT-SIDE-SPEAKER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35596QQihZ015QQitemZ250170170633QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I always wondered what it was like to own a solid gold bike cause apparently it's worth it's weight in it piece by piece.
