kevin-vic-b.c. Posted January 28, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 28, 2013 Are they 3M strips Rick? I did the 3m Flames on our helmets and they look fantastic.

SilvrT Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted January 28, 2013 Are they 3M strips Rick? I did the 3m Flames on our helmets and they look fantastic. I did the front fender using 3m pin-stripping tape ... wasn't happy with it because it's too easy to lift those pointed ends. For the rest of the bike, I sprayed with gold first, let that dry, then ran a 1/8 " masking strip along the existing masked edge, then sprayed with black. Thinking of doing something similar to mine, but have questions.... 1. What kind of paint did you use? Was it a rattle-can? 2. Did you apply a clear sealer? 3. How did you prep the area before spraying the gold? Looks really great, Rick! I admire your work. Joe
SilvrT Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #14 Posted January 28, 2013 Thinking of doing something similar to mine, but have questions.... 1. What kind of paint did you use? Was it a rattle-can? Dupli-Color rattle can. 2. Did you apply a clear sealer? Not at this time ... might do that next winter. The Dupli-Color does a good job all on it's own tho and I'm not concerned about the "edge". 3. How did you prep the area before spraying the gold? Cleaned it really good with a wax and grease remover (a good wipe with paint thinner and then another wipe down with tsp). Masked the area to be painted. Scuffed the surface with a scuff pad. Another wipe down with tsp. Finally a wipe with a tac cloth. Looks really great, Rick! I admire your work. Joe Thanks Joe! SilvrT Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #15 Posted January 28, 2013 Are those "Go Faster" stripes? (Like you need them....) How much longer before you stop preening and start riding? If we had some decent riding weather, "preening" would take a back seat! Actually, I don't expect to get a ride in before the middle of Feb even if we get some nicer weather as this coming weekend is ear-marked for other things and the following weekend (the long weekend) we're off to Vegas!!
