What is this for

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just been passing time lying upside down under my 2006 RSTD when I noticed this cable.

I think it must be a vent tube but, I am hoping someone with more knowledge can set me right.

The cable/tube shown over the exhaust in the attached photo.

All help appreciated

Cheers,

The tube doesn't have anything in it as far as I can tell.

I saw the end of it as it wasn't attached to anything.

The manual doesn't show a photo of it at al.

Just thought someone with an RSTD might know or could have a look.

I'll take it of the stand and put on the side stand and crawl under and have another look.

I have two of them,,,,, One on my RSTD and one on my RSV.

It is just a small vent hose on the bottom of the water pump.

Tuck it back in to the inside of the exhaust toward the ground.

Mine are both clean and dry and do not show signs of ever having drainage.

My guess,, like the drain hole on a car water pump, will only be used when the unit fails.

That is as Mike decsribed it the drain for the area between the water pump and the crankcase, if coolant comes out you have a bad waterpump seal, if oil comes out you have a bad oil seal on the crankcase. The seals are for the driven shaft that comes out of the crank case and goes into the water pump.
