Sylvester Posted October 25, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 25, 2016 I have the carbs off my 02 RSMV. Started breakdown on one carb and all went well until removal of needle jet. Can anyone help me with this? Everything else on the carb clean/rebuild should go smooth after this. Thanks all,
Marcarl Posted October 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2016 Sometimes they can be tight, and being brass they could snap off. I have a Dewalt impact-driver and would be tempted to try it. Would have to have a bit that fit decently tight though I think.
eusa1 Posted October 26, 2016 Share #3 Posted October 26, 2016 have you removed the float?
Sylvester Posted October 26, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted October 26, 2016 Yes the float is removed, but I see no way to remove the needle jet. There is a long (brass?) rod opposite the needle seat which looks like it may have some bearing on the jet. I followed the removal procedures in the manual, but I know there are mistake issues in some of the manual. What product do you recommend for soaking the carb after I get the jet out since that is the last thing to do.
WildBill1 Posted October 26, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 26, 2016 I don't remove the needle seat spray carb. cleaner it and use high pressure air to finish cleaning. Gumout is a good carb. cleaner.
Sylvester Posted October 27, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted October 27, 2016 Thank you. Easy enough to do. I don't remove the needle seat spray carb. cleaner it and use high pressure air to finish cleaning. Gumout is a good carb. cleaner.
Sylvester Posted November 12, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted November 12, 2016 To all who tried to help me and those that are just curious, I give you the following. The carbs had no varnish after (or before) an overnight soak. What was the problem is ethanol degradation of the fuel lines. Had to have the carbs professionally cleaned and reassembled.
