2007 RSV what to look for before purchase

Recommended Posts

Don't be intimidated when you read the info in this list. But it will tell you areas to check. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?1067-A-list-of-known-problems-on-the-Second-Gen-Venture

Three important things to check :

- rear shock - has it leaked? Check for oil on bottom of shock

- clutch basket whine - test ride thru the gears and rpm. If it is loud, you might want to pass

- how old are the tires? If beyond 5-7 years, you'll need to replace them.

...and welcome to the forum !

my question would be why so few miles? What was done to keep it from disintegrating since it must have sat most of the time.Replacing a clutch as suggested or anything major should not be necessary for another 50,000 miles. But as mentioned, the tires have a code, the wear date. They can look new and be unsafe. You can google how to read wear date codes.Or perhaps the owner knows and can prove it.

Is this at a dealer or private? I've always had a good or bad feeling about who had it for sale. At those low of miles, the shock shouldn't be an issue. I'd say, ride it and listen for the whine, and if you don't like it, don't buy it. Otherwise just see what it's history is.

Good luck,
