Hey All,
I've decided it's finally time to replace my 20 year old rain suit. My wife and I are finally in a position where we can do a cross-country this year and I need to get new rain suits. Anyone got a rain suit that they're really pleased with. I don't want to spend $200-300 and not like it after the first gully-washer. Thanks
Can't wait for spring!

I'm looking for a set of low dollar suits myself. I've heard the Frog Toggs were good but not sure. Interesting to see what others recommend. I need something to keep one cool in those 95 degree showers in Florida this August.
Frogg Toggs are about $35 - $40 on eBay.... :thumbsup2:

Frog Toggs are pretty good. However, my wife gave me a HD rain suit that collapses into a small bag. The bag is about this size of a flat volleyball. Packs very nicely.
More importantly, the rain suit is comfortable, fits well - even over cold weather gear, keeps out the rain wonderfully, but is cool enought to ride in when it is hot out. The legs open up enough to fit over my boots (I wear size 15). I am very pleased with the suit.
I expect it costs a hundred dollars (that's what HD stands for, isn't it?). I like it much better than the Frog Toggs. The crotch of the FTs hang down too far. I split them once when swinging my leg over the bike. Other than that, they are OK. Priced nicely and packs well. Fit both top and pants in a shoe bag. My wife still uses the FTs and is OK with them. They are extremely nice in the summer as they breath well.
Hope this helps.

they get my vote. Nice and light, pack pretty small and very good against the rain, and not overly expensive.

I think most who have tried the Frogg Toggs like them because they keep the rain out and they breathe to keep you from sweatin' your butt off. :thumbsup2: :thumbsup2: :thumbsup2: from me.

I use a POWER TRIP jacket. It's the mesh type jacket with the armor in the shoulders, elbows, and spine. Can't think of the name right now. But it has the zip in rain liner and I use Firstgear rain pants. I been very pleased. I can stay dry even in a driving rain. The jacket was about $150. and the pants were $17.95.
They have worked for us for a long time.

We use frogg toggs. The best place to order them is www.outdoorboss.com (http://www.outdoorboss.com). You can get them new for 39.95. I ordered on a friday and received them on monday. Their service is excellent. After use I repackage them with our food saver. It will shrink them down in a compact package that doesn't take up much room.

Frogg Toggs, completely waterproof and breathable. You can get them here (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,44841_.html) for $29.95 except they only have them in Teal (which is no big deal to me).

Thanks to all. It seems pretty universal, Frogg Toggs. I ordered suits for both my wife and I this morning! MAYBE, it'll start warming up soon! Can't wait to hit the pavement. :fingers crossed:

I think you will be happy with the Frog Togs. I have used mine several times and other than a little water around the neck they kept me dry and very comfortable in the hot North Carolina summers. The only reason water got in around the neck is that I can't stand anything tight around my neck so I wear them open at the top.

I got my rain suit at Wal Mart and comes in a convient bag and I have had it 4 years now and used it many times and is still like new. Good suit for a reasonable price.

In lite rain my Tour Master Pivot Jacket and Venture pants does a job. For Heavy rain my vote go to Froggs Toggs tested last year on the way back from Minesota Pork in the Pines. 8 ++ Hours riding in hammering rain, and that gismo keep me dry all the way to Chicago.
Only downside is pants. you have to take off boots to put a pants on, no biggie, as long they keep me dry.

Well, cost is certainly a factor, but I'll give a little different slant to the good advice you have received. I wear an Aerostich riding suit, second one in fact after the first one was pretty much demolished in a crash last November. Thank goodness for the pads in the elbows, shoulders and knees which helped me survive injury free in the accident.
The Aerostich is Gore-Tex, breathes and is waterproof. When rain is on the horizon, I simply zip the vents and keep on riding, no extra gear to put on.
As I indicated though, it is expensive with the one piece suit selling for more than $700.

I'll second that. I wear my Nelson-Rigg suit over my Fieldsheer mesh armor jacket. Even though the rain suit has mesh lining, so it doesn't stick to your skin, I still wear the armor underneath it which further helps wick away sweat when it's hot outside.

I have the Nelson Rigg, wore it in all weather and it's awesome. Might go for the Frogg Toggs when I replace them but they're so darn funny looking hehehe

I picked a couple of sets of FROGG TOGGS. G-Ma put them in a couple of freezer bags---sucked the air out of them with her "handy-dandy" little air sucker (the kind you put stuff in the freezer with) Hardly take up any room til you need them. ----Buzz
did I not read the above post or did I just not read the above post---sorry for the repeat----Buzz

Greetings...
oh REALLY!?! THAT'S nice to know.
Darn, what a downer in advance of wanting to purchase a set.
I don't have to take off my boots to get my frogg toggs on - they have a nice zipper on the ankles - I can get my size 13 1/2 Herman survivors into them just fine!
On or off - though, it really helps if you ARE sitting down when you stick your legs in - Just so you don't loose your balance and step on the trousers in the mud and mess up your seat!
They FEEL so flimsy - But they are SO tough! And light! I've tried many gear over the years, and Frogg Toggs are the absolute best I've ever found.

I have used Frogg Toggs for years and always been happy with them. They do make several types (same material, just different features). Some have zippers in the pant legs, some don't. But even the ones without zippers have gone on over my size 13 cowboy boots without real problems. Many people have stated they breath - personally I do not think so.
After extended use, I have had them develop leaks that I could never find - just wet spots in the clothes under them - sometimes significant. Now I think I know why I could never find the leaks. Recently I have discovered a problem with my newest set of pants. One of the seams on the outside of the lower pant leg has started coming apart - probably from the wind. When I was trying to repair it, I saw light coming through slits in the material. Upon closer examination, I could see that the plastic film sandwiched between the two fiber layers of material had begun to come apart in long slits. When I looked at the other leg, it shows the same separation in the internal film (hold it up to bright light and you can see light through the slits). This pair of pants had not been used that much, so I am quite concerned that they seem to have deteriorated. Frogg Toggs only stands behind them for one year. I may be looking for a different brand of rain gear.

I can give praise to the Nelson Rigg AX1 suit. On my way home from the Rally in Kitchener I hit the rain and rode across Nova Scotia for the whole day in some very heavy rain. I didn't get the least bit wet other than a little condensation.
Keith
Tourmaster for $55.00 a pair. They're lightweight nylon type material that's waterproof. I've had 5 sets of Frogg Toggs and never again. The pants always start leaking in the crotch and I've always been careful putting them on. I know some people love them and they are cooler than some of the rainsuits.
Look on the Honda Direct line webb site.

Frog-togs less tahn $40.00 and rolls up nicely to fit in the saddlebag. My wife and I drove through a pretty severe thunderstorm in Halletsville Texas and the only moisture was from perspiration (what a wind). They work great but in the Texas summer time they are a bit warm.
