Hi Don and VentureRider family,

I'm glad we now have this thread available for those fund raisers that don't really fit in anywhere else. I appreciate that I have been able to Post for the Legacy Run the last couple of years, so I'll continue the tradition.

The following is my prepared text for this year's Run. The American Legion has a lot more information, but this is a small excerpt so that we know all is legitimate.

2010 Legacy Scholarship Run –
It’s For Our Children – It’s for Our Servicewomen and men!
Let’s do what we can to help! Yeah, let’s catch the Spirit!

The American Legion is a Veterans Service Organization established in 1919 in an effort to help Veterans returning from World War I. It was originally established in Paris and was chartered by Congress in 1920. The American Legion Riders (ALR), a program sponsored by The American Legion, has about 100,000 riders worldwide. Any member of the American Legion, Auxiliary or S.A.L. in good standing and who owns a motorcycle (see your local AL Riders chapter for minimum motor size requirements), may join the Legion Riders. The American Legion helps all veterans.

Quote-
The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund was created to help ensure children who have lost a parent at war receive the education they need and deserve. The Legion Riders are among the fund's biggest donators, creating the annual Legacy Run in 2006. To date, almost $3 million has been contributed to the Legacy Fund. Of that, almost $1 million has come from the Legion Riders' Legacy Runs. The overall goal is to raise $20 million, to sustain the fund and fill the needs of those children. Thanks in part to the Legion Riders, the Legion has made a great start but still has a long way to go.

How can you help?

1) Sign up as a participant or supporter of the 2010 Legacy Scholarship Run. Cost is $50 if registered before Aug 1, 2010. The supporter receives the same package that participants do, which includes the route map, Legacy Run patch and date bar of the Run. Wear it with pride.
See where we go and print an application for participant or supporter:

2) Start a collection for the Legacy Scholarship Fund and ensure the donations get to The American Legion by the beginning of the National Convention in August. (Riders will be coming from all parts of the world, bringing donation checks and pledges to the Convention- let me know if you need someone to pick up your donation gypsy_moore@yahoo.de (gypsy_moore@yahoo.de) .

3) Make a direct donation to the Scholarship Fund at:

And-

4) Help the Scholarship fund obtain $250,000 by voting daily at the Pepsi Refresh Project until June 30, 2010.

Ride hard, ride safe, but ride with God.

God bless our servicewomen and men no matter where they serve, as well as our veterans. Thank you for your service.

Well, the fifth annual Legacy Run is over. We left Indy with over 300 bikes and picked up (and dropped off) paricipants along the way, so in the end we had over 500 participants for the five day, 1450 mile trip.
The ride was open to all motorcyclists with a displacemnt of minimum 750 cc. We had a lot of trikes again this year, as well as two Spyders.

As of end of convention yesterday, total collected this year alone was about $616,000.

Thanks to all who may have ridden or donated. I was honored to be the Run chaplain again.

Next year's Run is to Minneapolis and will probably be a 4 or 5 day event. Hope to see you there next year.

If you missed out on the ride or didn't have time to send a donation, here is the possibility to donate still.

Look around the Legacy Run portion for some of the pictures and write ups about the Run.

Guess what? We're doing it again this year and looking to raise $450,000. You can still sign up for $50 as a participant or supporter (and get the packet, patches and route plan) or just make a donation.

I was going to do the five day full ride, but I need to take care of some business in Germany first and will only be able to fly straight to Minneapolis on August 23rd.

I won't have time to pick up my bike in DC, so will probably rent a bike in Minneapolis to ride (solo) to Baxter, stay overnight and ride with the Run for the end ride back to Minneapolis.

I'll put about 600 miles on the bike in the two days that I will use it (pickup in Minneapolis on August 24th morning and drop off August 26th afternoon around 1 pm.).

Does anybody know of a good place to rent a motorcycle (minimum 750 cc) for the two days that I need it?

Thanks for any help you can give and ride safe.
