I am thinking of purchasing some lower wind vents (I am already feeling the heat)...and have only seen one picture of them installed....and the angle was from the front, which meant you could barely see the vents.
Could someone post several angles of the vents from the back and also a closer view of the clamps.
Thanks,
Wally

These are a star accessory and can also be found on ebay.
I too have these installed on my '08. They do help in keeping some air flowing. However, I found better relief from the foot pegs getting my feet away from the motor.

Sling, are these the ones that Star sells? They look a little different, or are these some custom made vents.
Thanks,
Wally

rumboogy,
I've got the lower vents from Yamaha on my 07 as well as the longhorn highway pegs from Kuryakin (sp?) The 2 together really help with air flow and getting the heat out of the engine space on hot days.
You'll have to play around with the mounting a little to get both to work together, but as you saw from the photo postings, it can be done. Both are bolt ons.
Hope they work out for you.
Bob
I've also been thinking about those vents, for the really hot summer months here. Thanks for posting those pictures Rick! Now I understand how they mount.
Can anyone say how well the vents work by themselves, without the addition of highway pegs? (my bike came with pegs, but I really didn't like them and removed them).

Yeah...those are some good pics...but I want to make sure those are the same as the ones seen at the STAR site...in their pics, I don't see as much hardware.

Those ARE the Star tinted lower wind vents part number STR-1D608-80-00. I have them. They look a lot more tinted in the catalog than they are in the plastic. They clamp to the front engine guards with a two piece clamp that is open on the forward side. It takes a little moving around to get them fitted just right.
I run them closed when it's cool and open when it's hot out. They block air flow when closed or work as scoops to bring in more air when they're spread wide. The vertical rod with the acorn nuts can become a bit loose, requiring some tightening to get them to stay put. I'm glad I have 'em.

This is a set of AirWings I got at the Americade last year. BIG Difference! They are 2 pc and I can direct the air lower and higher. I've got plenty of room for my feet at the pegs, also. Brian

I use them, and I have the Hi-way pegs. I Think they're great. They really help when the weather is :scorched:

I have them and they are great. I'm not crazy about the way they mount but it is adequate. The pictures on the STAR dealerships is a lot darker than they actually are. They are a light smoke color. On the site they look almost black. Someone sells them on ebay for $159.99. Yamaha Sports Plaza in Or sells them for $149.96. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/207/407/3664/1/0/0/1/4/90/69/338/tinted-lower-wind-vents.aspx
